Hi All!
I had to do a factory reset of my phone tonight (Samsung Galaxy S Mesmerize, Froyo). After the reset, I downloaded a few of my apps (K9, Launcher Pro, Barcode Reader, Facebook). Everything seems to be working, except that when I launch my contacts app, and click the back button to exit, it takes me to a search screen for my contacts, and the only way to close them is to hit the home key.
A few things I've tried already:
1) Rebooting the phone.
2) Removing the shortcut and replacing it.
3) Replacing the shortcut with a shortcut to another app, then switching it back.
What else can I do to fix this?
I have the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. I am in the process of looking for a better contact app.

Is there any way I can change my default calendar view to "Month" as opposed to "Day". The "Day" view as default is pretty useless...
No? Okay. Maybe later...
I would like to know the answer myself. The calendar on this phone works great but it's an eye sore...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Here is what I ended up doing to "solve" this, whenever I reset/flash to a new ROM, the calendar always opens to the month view
I opened the calendar
Selected the view I wanted (I use agenda)
Then hit the home button
Now when I open calendar, it now goes straight to agenda view
Then reset to "save" this
After a reset, the back button now backs out to the home screen
Before the first reset, you cannot hit the back button in the calendar, it will go back to your first view (month in my case) then back out to the home screen.
When this happens, I have to do the steps above again.
Now, this works for me and I'm not sure exactly why. Maybe it saves the last state it is in and when you reboot in the last state, it becomes the default state.
I upgraded yesterday and seem to have several issues I would love help on.
1. Lost my purchased ringtones
2. Lost my Beautiful Widgets (Problem loading widgets) on screen..I cleared the data and uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted, still gone.
3. When I press the button left of the home button, Google search comes on instead of Settings ect.
How do I fix these problems?
Thanks,
Deb
Beautiful Widgets
Not sure about #1 and #3, but #2 is easy to fix: just remove Beautiful Widgets from your home screen, then add it back. This worked for me (using Launcher Pro)

are you long pressing the menu button? sometimes when the phone gets laggy it doesnt come up so people have a tendancy to hold the button longer then the long press function comes up which is search by default.
all purchased maket apps can be re downloaded once you log into the market account. trust me they are there and can be replaced free of charge. just go into market and click my apps. as for beautiful widgets, uninstall, then reinstall. uninstalling from the market will not remove your privlage to reinstall, if you are within the refund period it will ask you if you want a refund, if you say no you can redownload it as many times as you like.
EDIT: I have withdrawn any help I offered due to the OP sending me a whiny, insulting PM.

Rebooted the phone when the phone seemed hung up. The notifications, home and recent buttons (The circle and square buttons) stopped working after the reboot. Only back button is working. The buttons are registering key press, but just no action. The notifications don't work too. When I draw down , it says no notifications. I can't enable the cellular data as well, and Google ID doesn't sync. In short only voice features (calling & text) work.
Interesting, but may not be notable ,is when the phone was rebooted and these functions we're lost, vibrate on key press was enabled.(which wasn't the case before)
I gather through research here that complete reset will help. I can't backup the device (due to sync failure) nor copy files through USB (don't see the notification to enable data transfer option when I plug in USB). Therefore hoping for alternative option than complete reset.
Appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
Update
Want to add that I tried to clear cache for Google and other apps , delete and add account with no luck. The last sync time is just before the issue started.
When I place an icon on my home screen I am unable to remove it from the screen or uninstall it from the home screen.
Long pressing an icon does not reveal a remove or delete option. I have no idea how I've done this, and I can't figure a way to undo it. I have no third party launchers. I have restarted my phone. I have cleared the default launcher cache.
Any ideas? Thank you very much!
SOLVED: I didn't want to do it, but factory resetting fixed the issue. No idea what created my issue, but resetting fixed it. Thanks anyone who looked at this.

Have you tried to Long Press and move it? Then you should See the Option at the top of the Screen.

Long pressing does not work.
Long pressing and moving icons does not show a remove option on my home screen.
I have a suspicions that uninstalling Nova Launcher might have disabled the option? Or an OS update might have done it? I just bought the phone earlier this month. I use to be able to remove the icons. Just in the last few days, the option has gone away.
I can't work out how to delete my off screen memos?
I remove the s pen for an off screen memo, write a note, then pin it to off screen memo (all good so far).
The problem starts when I view the memo.
The screen is off > I tap it once and can see the memo outline with the minimise and delete icons > but when I double tap to view the memo the delete and minimise icons are not there???
All I can do is add more to the note if I want to and click "save".
But if I turn the screen off, tap it once again the screen off memo is still there, with no way to delete it!!!
Can't find any solutions on YouTube or any other tips!!
Does it work if you restart the phone?
Restarting the phone should work.
Are you syncing those notes to Samsung Cloud or OneNote?
If so, and restarting the phone doesn't work log out of Samsung Cloud, clear Samsung Notes app cache and relog back into Samsung Cloud.
Thanks.
I restarted phone and that gave me what looked like a pin icon on the single tap from sleep, I double tapped on the pin that opened the note again, I then saved it again and now it's gone from off screen!!
But of a effort just to delete a note
