[Q] Avoid recognition by websites as mobile device - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi all.
I have android Samsung galaxy S. My problem is when I visit some websites with callender and apointments, the website recognizes that I have less resolution than 800byxxx and it blocks me, I get an error like : your device has less resolution than is requered etc...
How can I resolve this problem ? I dont want the sites to see me as mobile device with small resolution. is there a way to make this work ?
thanks

I know Cyanogenmod has an option to change UAString to Desktop or other type. This allows what you want. I think even HTC Sense roms have this option in the browser too...
Try typing about:useragent in the browser address bar.

The dolphin hd browser has options to change that in the settings. Just set it for desktop

Type about:debug in the address bar, when you press enter more menu options will be available, you need to change UAString in settings.

thanks for help, but not there yet
Hi guys, I have done that, this solves a part of the whole problem, cause the site also checks the resolution and my resolution is smaller than it must be, so it says resolution is to low you need at least 1024 x 768 , where can I imitate that ? or change it sothat the site does not see my lower resolution ?

com'on guys help me out
Help me out somebody I'm on it already for 3 days, still no solution.
please help.

Have you tried opera mini (or opera mobile)? The web pages are decoded on operas servers then sent to your phone in a different format, sometimes this helps, but only if the web page is simple enough, ie no flash content.
What site are you trying?

HTC HD2 IE help :)

I just got my htc hd2 a couple days ago and so far ive got it all modded out just like i want it but i have one problem left to fix.
I dont really like Opera that much and call me weird but ive always prefered IE for both mobile and desktop. Most of the time Ie works flawless for me but every once in a while a website will load with massive fonts... and its not all the fonts. (the links and other things stay the same size) When i go into the settings and change the font size it doesnt help and when i zoom out it makes the links and stuff microscopic. I have also set my phone to be in mobile view... no help and i tried desktop view... no help.
Ive been looking for an answer to this for some time and the only solutions i can find are people saying to zoom out or change the font size in the settings.
If this has already been asked im sorry but i couldnt find it... ANY help would be appreciated.
hi,
put 2 fingers in the middle of the screen and move them to up and down edges. same zooming in all programs where it necessary, photo, office, acrobat etc. zoom here use for initial opening and after adjust as you like.
All the best.

Thanks for the reply but if im correct the 2 finger zoom in and out only works in opera and im lookin for Internet explorer.
Ty tho
Weird
It may just be a rendering issue; if it's just some parts of some pages (of some sites?), it may be that the page has a layout defined via a .CSS stylesheet and IE is not able to render it correctly? The mobile version of IE, whilst it's waaayyyy better on WM6.5 than it was on 6.0 and 5.0, "it aint' all that" ..... which is why lots of people use Opera.
Does the screwy page you get in IE render OK if you open it with Opera?? Might be worth comparing pages in the two browsers - and if Opera is OK, check the page using IE on your desktop PC to see if it's ok on there.
Just a couple of suggestions ..... sorry it's not a solution
Cheers,
Mark.
no the screwy pages are only on IE... for instance this website has the problem...
The reason i dont use opera is because it often doesk funky website layouts and thats the reason i got rid of my old phone.

[Q] Opera 10.00 Flash conflict in desktop view

Hi All,
I have an issue with my Opera browser and Flash. I can't find anything else posted here in a similar vein, so I'm posting a new question - apologies if this is a duplicate.
I have Opera 10.00 installed on my HD2 and was getting annoyed with how it always defaults to mobile sites when the screen size on my HD2 (and connection speed) is sufficient to browse sites in desktop view. So I followed the advice on this page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5786377&postcount=1602) and am now able to view desktop view pages by default.
HOWEVER
I am now no longer able to watch Flash videos through my browser. Whereas before I could just click a video and it would work no problem, now the video just shows the Flash 9 logo and tells me I need to upgrade.
After some investigation, it seems to due to the User Agent setting. I can only view Flash videos if this is set to '1' (Opera) but I can only view desktop mode by default if it is set to '2' (Mozilla).
Does anyone know how I can have the ebst of both world? I want to be able to watch Flash while browsing in desktop mode - is that too much to ask?!
Thanks

unique agent per site?

Well I am using two different browsers right now, the stock honeycomb browser and opera mobile. Opera does seem a bit quicker, but i havent figured out how to disable the mobile mode when doing any search, so thats a bit annoying and i prefer tabs to the method they use for multiple open pages.
Anyway, i was wondering how i can setup a specific site to use mobile or desktop or tablet mode. I only see a master option. Is it possible to do this?

would love this feature too
The newest version of the stock browser in Prime! v1.9 has an option for "Website settings", allowing advanced settings for individual websites. However, there is no way to manually add new websites to the list, nor is there a way to view or change the settings for websites that do populate the list, and so far I've only seen Google-specific services like Gmail getting their own individual entries.
Sleipnir browser may be what you are looking for

It appears that the Sleipnir browser has this capability to set user strings per the actual website. I just downloaded it today to give it a try. I have been trying to find a way to create custom user strings (spoofing??) to truly force the desktop environment, I have been selecting the included "desktop" settings on both the stock browser and Dolphin for Pad browsers and it works ok for some sites, but others it doesn't work worth a crap. I have also been STFA to find the actual text/scripts for adding into the stock and Dolphin browsers under their "custom user agent string" settings. Trying to find the user agent strings that I can copy or type in and implement, has not been very fruitful so far (If anyone knows where I can find the information it would be appreciated)
Since I just downloaded the Sleipnir browser today I can't offer any feedback but it may be worth a try.

[Q] How to avoid mobile sites?

On my rooted Desire i never had an issue, the roms I used included the user agent option in the browser and changing that to desktop ensured that every site I visited was the full desktop version and I was never forced to view mobile versions. The Sensation seems to be a problem though. I am able to activate the user agent setting in the browser but even when I change it to desktop there are still sites that insist on displaying mobile versions (mainly adult video sites but the odd betting site and i'm sure there are more). Is there anything else I can do to fix this? I have even tried typing various custom user agent strings, nicked from other browsers, in there but this still doesn't work. I cant help but think these sites are using some other information received from the browser to determine that it is a mobile device!
Dude, you read my mind, I was just about to post here after spending an hour or so messing around trying to stop the damn mobile view from showing!
Even if you change the setting in about:debug, going to www.google.com still gives me the stupid mobile version. This never happened on my Desire either! I think the Sensation is just bugged and changing the UAString doesn't actually do anything.
Im sure changing the User agent does do something, as it did stop some sites. Also if you got to http://whatsmyuseragent.com/ then change the useragent and go back, you can see the changes! I have changed my useragent to exactly the one that my chrome desktop browser sends, and still some websites dont work. There must be something else determining which site is shown.
Just out of interest, what is your Chrome UA string that you've used? Does it stop www.google.com from defaulting to Mobile view?
My User agent string is set as
Mozilla/5.0 Windows NT 6.0 AppleWebKit/535.1 KHTML, like Gecko Chrome/14.0.835.202 Safari/535.1
But it doesnt sort out google.com!

Xoom Jellybean useragent settings

Is there a way to get the default browser to always request desktop sites. I can temporarily select "request desktop site" from the menu or use about:debug to reveal advanced menus and set the useragent to desktop. But neither of these methods are persistent.
Given the Xooms relatively large screen size for an android device - should not the default be desktop with a "request mobile site" being the option.
This is about the only thing I find annoying with Jellybean. I frequently visit URLs that open mobile websites when the Xoom can readily display their full desktop sites. It becomes a drag continually having to request the alternative format.
I agree. My old ICS ROM had it as a setting in that you could choose from a list and that was it set. That was Bugless Beast ROM. Hopefully that Dev is working on a new JB ROM.
Opera has a setting for it, I prefer the stock browser as my main one, although still annoys me it fails when downloading certain file types.

If I am not mistaken, EOS has the UA string as desktop by default working on their ROM....

Unfortunately I think you are mistaken. I have only used EOS Jelly bean ROMs. Currently on EOS build JRO03L Nightly 110 and it still requests mobile sites.
About the best we've come up with is to use about:debug to gain access to settings>debug>UAStrings & then setting it to destkop. You now get desktop sites. BUT, Thereafter if rebooting leads to getting served an unwanted mobile site - simply typing about:debug and enter is all you need to do to get the desktop sites again, without having to access the settings menu. Better than nothing I guess.
