UPDATE (4th April 2011):
We are now at ~7600 mark.
We're starting to slow down from our initial boom, so I have now set up a Facebook page to see if we can wrangle in some supporters that don't use Twitter or XDA.
I will need your help getting this out there. So share the facebook page where you can.
I'm also looking to see if anyone is interested in helping me Moderate the page. Please PM if you are.
Previous Update (1st April 2011 - No Fooling!):
We're now at the 7,000 mark!!!
Motorola is now aware of the petition!
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/355098#355098
Unfortunately we have had a few setbacks with Groubal the provider of the petition, but that have been absolutely fantastic about working with us to keep this petition in the forefront.
They have been hacked sever times, but it was as a result of an SQL bug that has affected over 690,000 other sites on the internet.
The site is now bug free and completely restored
Further SQL Bug Reading:

Please continue to spread the word and show your support.
Also, help us get the attention of major News sites Engadget and Gizmodo by submitting a tip for the story.
Previous Update (31st March 2011):
~5,600 Signatures!!! This is getting some serious attention now!
Stories have hit half a dozen Android News sites now.
Phandroid:
http://phandroid.com/2011/03/30/pet...la-to-change-bootloader-encryption-practices/
Droid-Life:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/3...ore-bootloaders-there-is-a-petition-for-that/
We're hoping to be picked up by Engadget and Gizmodo, but it won't be easy.
I will also start to network through Motorola and see if we can get an open dialog with some people in the know.
The plan is to show Motorola that they can turn the 6,000 odd petitioners into advocates, if we can show them the dollar value of what the unlocked bootloader will do for them, we may get through.
Previous Update (30th March 2011):
We are now at the ~2500 mark. This has been a fantastic result and we're trying to see those numbers get even higher.
Groubal has now been the victim of 2 hack attacks that brought down the site for a couple of hours. The founder of Groubal beleives this is a result of the Motorola/Bootloader petition as they have not experienced these attacks before.
I'm not going to make assumptions to where these attacks are coming from, but at least it's showing we're getting some attention.
Previous UPDATE (28th March 2011):
So the numbers are 1430, but there has been a few dramas over the past couple of hours.
Groubal was Hacked!!! They suspect it has something to do with this petition!!!
Their email to me below:
I will fight this passionately and will do everything I can to see Motorola change their policy. Australia is the home of the "Little Aussie Battler" an expression used to describe how resilient and dedicated we get when we're on the ropes.
The Little Android Battler

Hi All,
I have created a Groubal (online petition) to get a response from Motorola on it's bootloader policy.
>>This petition started for the Atrix, but I made sure that it was for Motorola's overall Bootloader Policy. I have reached 200 signatures in 2 weeks, but now believe it's time to expand this out of the Atrix space and into the larger Motorola Dev community.

Hello XDA-devs ---
I'm just trying to get some kind of visible feedback about whether the new Devvy Awards banner Ad is showing up for you in the ad-rotation on the site here. There is a wide banner version, and a square version. If you've seen one at least once, could you please reply and just let me know -- it'll help a lot!
HERE'S WHY
It would help to give me an indication on where and how to spend money to increase developer awareness of the upcoming VOTING for the first (AND LAST) Devvy Awards for the Windows Mobile touchscreen Platform. These awards pay tribute to the killed-off OS that started this whole multi-billion dollar touchscreen phone & tablet industry way back when XDA-developers.com first started as a website formed to help make the HTC "XDA" a more usable phone on Windows Mobile.
XDA-developers.com has very generously donated the running of these ads for the Devvy Awards, and "we" ("we" is actually just 2 people! ) are very grateful for all the support they've given in so many ways.
Here's what the ads look like:
ADS RUN HERE IN GEOGRAPHICAL TERRITORIES OF THE WORLD
Europe, Asia, Africa, South America may all see these Devvy Awards ads more likely than those of us in the USA, due to the targeting of many ads for USA audience, and the heavy Christmas shopping season where many products are being sold. So the statistical instances of USA viewers seeing the ads is way less -- and that's where I live. So I am hoping for some tangible feedback.
They cost a lot to produce. And the purpose was simply to notify people about the upcoming voting. I intend to run the ads elsewhere, and pay for them to run. So, getting your feedback would also really help me to know if it's a good use of my depleting funds.
Right after Christmas, on Dec 27th, the Nominations Period will begin for the 5 other major Operating Systems: Android, iPhone, webOS, Blackberry, and -- though there is really not enough development to warrant it -- WindowsPhone 7. So I plan to run ads at places where developers on these OSs congregate in forums like these.
I appreciate any and all feedback. Please keep this thread bumped up so others can see it. Everything about this is Recognition for developer dedication and hard work. Thanks!

So, as of this writing, is this correct? No one on the entire site has seen either the wider banner or square banner?
...
Hmm, wonder if this is due to most users here using ad-block software so they see no ads at all. I know that is common...
Still... NO ONE at all? I'm not sure if this is true, or if those who have seen it just don't see this thread.
Topic 1 of 2:
Santa Wrecked the Devvys Site - Damn Him
SANTA MESSED UP HIS GPS USING SAMSUNG GALAXY, *TOTALLY* MISSED THE NORTH POLE, WENT ON A DRUNKEN BINGE, AND WRECKED OUR SITE, and about 150 others on his path....
So Look for Windows Mobile voting on Friday.
$%$^&# Santa! Why can't he leave working things alone? Rudolph and the reindeer have performed flawlessly all these years, but even Santa falls for the hype and gets the Nexus S --- all messed up: http://devvyawards.com
Topic 2 of 2:
THE DEVVY AWARDS BANNER ADS on this site:
So, did anyone at all, in any country, anywhere on XDA, at any time of day, at any point at all, see a Devvy Awards ad? I ask because I spent about $5000 to get them made and they took an enormous amount of time, and the whole purpose is not commercial -- but rather to alert people to the voting for Devvy Awards.
It's hard to complain since, when I inquired about the price a few months ago, XDA offered to donate the ad runs --- which is absolutely wonderful and generous. And yet, at the end of the day, if they didn't end up running at all, then that killled my entire effort, which was enormous, to make it known throughout the site about the awards, which are a day away from voting for Windows Mobile -- and then on December 31st, Nominations begin for all 5 of the major Touchscreen operating systems OTHER than windows mobile:
ANDROID
iOS
webOS
BLACKBERRY
WINDOWS PHONE 7 (though they really do not merit any awards for 2010; not enough development).
*** I am probably going to add SYMBIAN... it's getting new life via NOKIA, and they have largest market penetration of all. Any thoughts?
THOSE NOMINATIONS WILL ALL HAPPEN AT SAME TIME and in much more sophisticated way that WinMo happened here at XDA site earlier this year. They will be web form based, and specific to each touchscreen OS. We have a social media team that is going to work all the major development forums to make sure developers know about the nominations so they nominate their own works/apps. These nominations will run for 5 weeks, thus, all through month om January 2011.
thanks!

After reading the the 12 pages over in Viewsonic's Facebook Discussion section on the gTablet support, I came away with the idea that what we need is a single united voice to get Viewsonic attention.
facebook.com/topic.php?uid=58738271675&topic=18712
While many has already blog, tweet and post in forums to show how unhappy they are with the way Viewsonic has treated the gTablet, a single united campaign will hopefully get the attention of online (and maybe offline) media. This would lead to positive PR for the gTablet hardware and negative PR for the company. Hopefully, it will show them the true popularity of the device and get them to reconsider abandoning it for something newer.
I've created a Facebook page to get us started.
facebook.com/pages/Viewsonic-gTablet-Owners-Unite/115515855214154
I welcome any input, help, advise, suggestion etc..
A small update.
Almost a week have pass since the launch of the Viewsonic gTablet Onwers Unite Facebook page and we have nearly 40 people responded. It's a great start but we need more people. Please Like the page if you have not already done so and share it with anyone you know who own a gTablet or looking to get one.
Our goal is NOT to discourage people from buying the gTablet as more units sold translate to a bigger user base. If nothing else, the popularity (=sale figure) would be the one thing Viewsonic cannot ignore.
Join us @
facebook.com/gTabletOwners
they wont give a rat crap about you. The only way they will listen is to get the general public attention.
Spike, that is the purpose of the Facebook page. It require minimal commitment from people. All they have to do is click the Like button. People who wish to be more involve and post and spread the words etc..
And we have 91 members now.
Anyway, last night it came to that while many have said that the only way for Viewsonic to listen is hit them where it hurt the most, through their sales. So I've started a companion page to Viewsonic gTablet Owners Unite called I Switched from Viewsonic. This page is to help register the people who are boycotting the Viewsonic brand. To get all those statements in the same place instead of spreading all over the Internet. Once again, the aim is show strength in numbers.
Before anyone ask, Yes, you can continue to use your current Viewsonic product(s) as long as you have made a purchase of a different brand because of a previous bad experience with Viewsonic.
facebook.com/pages/I-Switched-from-Viewsonic/266914796653802
Time for a little viral marketing.
We are about to hit the 100 members mark sometime this week. To celebrate, I think it would be a great opportunity to do a big (viral) marketing push.
If the Facebook study I have read is true, the average person on Facebook has about 10-20 people on their friends list. My suggestion is for everyone to take a minute to hit the Share button on the bottom left of the Facebook page to post it on their Wall. That would give us a minimum of 1000+ more pair of eye balls seeing the message. Some of them might be gTablet owners or know someone who does. But our real aim is to bring to their attention our cause and at the same time spread negative publicity for Viewsonic to another 1000 people who might in turn share it with more of their friends. With some luck, we might just reach that critical mass that will attract Viewsonic attention.
Make sure to include a message along the line of:
"I own a Viewsonic gTablet and I need your help. Viewsonic has abandon this device after only 3 months of support. Now they are killing it by refusing to provide the necessary driver so the community developers can continue to update it. Please share this with all your friends so we can warn as many people as possible about Viewsonic dodgy business practice."
facebook.com/gTabletOwners
just posted it on the FB support page. lets see if it stays up.

I understand where you are coming from, but asking a corporation to support a commercial failure is most likely falling on deaf ears. Just ask those people who bought Touchpads. Viewsonic doesn't make their money from people like us.

Yes they do.
Fact Most happy consumers have no voice, It's not that they do not have one its more like they have no use or want to be bothered with it.
Upset people have a voice and use it.
So if I was a consumer that was looking for a good product, and search the web for a viewsonic tablet review I will find peoples likes and dislikes.
So if the upset customers (US) make noise, it will hurt their bottom line. I would not want to buy a device that is dropped from support and has bad things said about it.
I as a web guy would have done this a little different.
Create a facebook page for people to like and post their thoughts.
Create a twitter account and link it to the facebook page
Start going to the review sites you find in google searches and post your review with a link to your facebook page.
Heck you could even post on review sites for other viewsonic products (LCD's etc...) stating that you have owned and after the tablet mess, you will never buy again and so on.
I know VS is probably reading this and thinking "Shut up already, we do not need more trouble", but VS it's your fault and only you can fix the problem.
One thing I have learned in the last few years in tech, is never mess with the tech geeks as their numbers can kill you.
BTW, I liked both pages. No more VS for me! and I will spread the word.
PS. PM me if you need anything.
copc, thank you for you support.
I consider myself a thinker, not a leader. It takes a while for my brain to to digest and come up with new ideas. So I really appreciate yours and others help with keeping this project alive. I'm going to ask Roebeet and Living Enzyme if they would like to be Admin on the page or recommend someone who would be a good candidate. We really need a few more people to keep the page alive.
Anyone want to take a stab at making a viral video?

Hey guys,
I know you probably saw the article on the XDA Portal this morning about Motorola not unlocking our bootloaders as they promised they would. Well, now is time for us all to take action and put pressure on them. The thread below has details on how to put the pressure on them. We've done our part by buying Motorola Smartphones (a lot of us are return customers), now it's time for Motorola to do there part and unlock our bootloaders. We are a small community here in the Atrix 2 world, but collectively we can make some noise along with our fellow Motorola brethren. Go to TSON's post below and follow his steps to make some noise.

This was posted here two days ago and the mods removed it hopefully they'll leave it this time.
Hopefully they don't...sorry for re posting. Hopefully we get enough eyes on this to get people to act before it disappears.
Don't be sorry I should have reposted it myself after they removed it.
I bookmarked the page, and I am filling out the FCC form right now.
What a pity chinese users can not visit Twitter or Facebook, and it's none of FCC's business to care about ME865 users' complaints, but we will send e-mails to MOTO, lots of ME865/MB865(HONGKONG Edition) users will gather! Just wait and see!

As of November 9th, 2012, Motorola is still selling the Electrify and Photon as CURRENT phones. Nowhere in their "store" section is it mentioned that both phones are discontinued and will not receive any updates or patches.

This is the Official Support My Moto Campaign Thread
Support My Moto! at supportmymoto.comA unified campaign backed by developers and you requesting Ice Cream Sandwich & Jellybean updates, source code, and unlocked bootloaders for the owners of Atrix MB860, Atrix MB861, Atrix ME860, Electrify MB853 ,Photon MB855, DROID X2, MB870, XT882, MT870
The main goals of the campaign is to have a unified front in submission of requests for Ice Cream Sandwich & Jellybean updates, source code, and unlocked bootloaders for the owners of all phones on covered by Motorola's $100 Tradeup Program.
What we would like to happen;
Unlock would make JB ROMs available to anybody that wants it.
Updating would cover more moto owners and thereby minimize the impact to Moto's profits and public image.
A clean plan of how the $100 credit is to work as "We're looking into it" type statements are very damaging.
The reason we ask these things is that it gives Motorola room to work with. Once/if Motorola decides to open up a line of communication then specifics could be discussed. Ideally unlock and an update would cover almost all Moto owners. Either way, both solutions would be of benefit to Moto. Even though I'm fronting the campaign I would like to see as many people walk away from it happy, or at least not want to attack each other.
This is achieved by filing Better Business Bureau Complaints, FTC Complaints, emailing The Consumerist and signing the petitions. These things and more can be achieved at the

I just sent an email to Consumer Reports and it went like this:
CR did a review on not too long ago and gave high marks to the smartphone known as the Motorola Photon 4G. While I think that your review is fairly accurate, one thing you should mention to fellow consumers is Motorola's unfair business practice. Quite simply, Motorola posted an update schedule for upgrading the Android OS. The schedule stated for a period of a few months that this and a few other of their smartphones would receive an update to Android 4.0.4, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Currently, the only update it has been given is a maintenance release that only fixed a handful of issues and one that effectively locked the bootloader. In laymens terms, they closed the possibility for developers to enhance the devices longevity and usefulness. They effectively killed the open source nature of Android and its promise for software update support for the next 18 months, all of which were major selling points for most of their phones. In essence, they have effectively lied to consumers about the way they handle business and I would like for this to be brought to light, so that others may know just what they are getting into when dealing with Motorola Mobility and its affiliates. It is just very frustrating to have such a high-end device (that I worked hard to have) be left in the dark and abandoned by a company that I thought to be one of the leaders of the communications and development industry.

I just offloaded my Droid Bionic and Atrix 4G yesterday because of Motorola's craptastic backtreading on the ICS issues (and yes I realize the Bionic probably will get ICS, doesn't matter now). While I wish you folks the very best, I can pretty much promise you that even if every Motorola device owner called them tomorrow or contacted Motorola in some manner and said "To hell with you..." it wouldn't change anything at all.
But, good luck just the same...

Yes and no. We may personally not get what we want however seeing that there are over 400 new site and blogs covering the update BS the losses that moto will most likely see are not going to be small. That doesn't even figure in the possible losses from existing moto owners. You also have to keep in mind that folks in California have a couple things they can do as well (wink, wink).
You should have an official message to post on tweeter, +google and facebook, and the tag shouldn't be #motofail. This isn't a motofail campaign, it is supportmymoto... The tag should be that so that it doesn't get confused with anything else. If it is going to be a real campaign it has to be organized and it has to give that image as well. Just a bunch of angry nerds yelling fail isn't going to get their attention. Just sayin'.
Cheers.
PS: Good on 'ya for creating the site so fast.

Actually if you share via the campaign site it adds the supportmymoto. The motofail and other tags that others used provide a way for supportmymoto folks to locate posts to spread word.
Also once the current tiny petitions fill up I will start a massive petition to cover all the bases.

As requested, I am copying and pasting the post from jbot81's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918696 here:
jbot81 said:
So far, Motorola's best response to us betrayed Photon owners was that they would buy our devices back for $100. After my initial excitement of Motorola's unending generosity died down, I realized that $100 isn't so generous after all.
-- Sprint will give you $63 for your phone.
-- Samsung will give you $75 for your phone. samsungupgrade.com
-- HTC will give you $75 for your phone. htctradeup.com
-- As of 10/2 used Photons are selling on ebay in good condition for more than $100 (search past listings for Photon 4G)
Essentially, excluding what you can get if you go to the trouble of selling your Photon on ebay, Motorola is giving us an extra $25, since they are requiring us to send in a device that does have some value elsewhere. Is $25 enough for you to stay a Motorola customer? That is certainly up to you. But you should at least be aware that other major phone manufacturers are not far off, and may very well provide better support.

Here is my complaint..
STOP, I repeat STOP sharing articles from click-bait non-techie sites designed to generate traffic by littering the page with "Android" "Galaxy" "Samsung" "Android N" so that when desperate users search for Android N and the Note 5 or any variation of a Samsung device they end up at Morning News USA.
All they are doing is stating "sources" over and over and the only link they do offer is to another site sharing the exact same information like a freshman copying from a wikipedia page.
You may as well consider Gotta Be Mobile a credible source (How to install AOSP on your Note 5, then shows steps for Note 4, Top 5 Note 5 hidden tips, then lists well known Android functionality, Reasons to Hate (Insert newest phone brand here), Reasons to Love (insert newest phone brand here))
I'm not saying they are wrong, after all its pretty easy to predict trends in how OEMs and updates work and ultimately if they are wrong who cares, you already clicked on the article and likely won't remember when jan rolls around and this place is flood with "OMG I hate Samsung" threads..
I'd wait for a more credible source before getting your nickers in a twist.
There's nothing to be credible or substantiated.
The fact is, it is coming. Android "N" is coming, whether it be today or tomorrow. And when it is "officially" announced, the whining will start. People will expect that it will be available for their specific phone the next day, and when it doesn't happen, break out the crying towels. That is all my post is saying. It doesn't matter when, where or whom from.
