When is there going to be a NS4G forum?
i don't think we need one
it's the same phone
only the radio is different

That's like making a NS I9023 forum. The nexus s forums needs as many people as possible.

IMO this forum should be merged with Nexus 1 forum
and call it Nexus
then we can put back every developer into the same place, and encourages more dev & support to release ROMs that are cross platform (hardware) compatible

Not a bad idea.

They are not the same device.
Obviously a Nexus S ROM is not going to work on a Nexus S 4G.
Really needs to be its own forum. Or at least subforum.
When I get my Nexus S 4G I don't want to have to weed through a bunch of GSM ROMs and kernels I can't use before I find something I can flash on my phone.

according to what was mentioned in other topics about the 4G version it is still a GSM radio, just 4G instead of 3G
it's not a CDMA radio if that's what you had in mind

I thought it was a CDMA radio? I know the AT&T one is the same but the Sprint version has to be totally different or no?

The Nexus S 4G is a CDMA enabled device available on Sprint. The 4G is powered by WIMAX. To my knowledge, there is no plans for a 4G Nexus S on GSM (HSPA+). The AT&T Nexus S will be capped at 7.2 DL speed same as the TMO variation.
I think they should just have the nexus s and nexus s 4g in the same thread. They both are the same just different radios like the G2 and Desire Z are. The only problem I can see from this is that on some Roms the wimax might not work like on the Og Evo..

there should be one forum for nexus devices, and a sub forum in each, like "Nexus One.... Nexus S...Nexus S (CDMA)"

Don't want to bring this back if there is no reason, but with the release coming next week I would love to see a new forum for the Nexus S 4G.
Agreed... need seprate forum.
You all might be right about being the same as ]ntil some poor sap flashes the wronge rom and kernel and bricks there phone.
Also... won't the kernel be diff because of the wimax and rom will have coding for wimax so they are not interchangable. Its not like its an app that you can just flash between all the nexus's. Just because thedy are built on same platform does not make them same.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I'm kind of thinking Google will restrain a ton of modifications to the kernel itself. We will have to see when the devices come out just how different they really are, but as of now, I vote on keeping them together to keep the developer base stronger.

Hi there, I'm looking for definitive evidence of the modem that the NS4G (cdma) model uses. Pictures or FCC documents would be great. I have my hunches that it's the Qualcomm QSC6085 modem, but I need more than that.
Bump. Anyone know anything?
Im not sure but ill bump again. And may I add its awesome to see your name popup in the Nexus forum. Just came from the Epic and can't wait to see some CDMA roms for the NS4G.

Thanks, but I still have my Epic. I'm searching for information about the NS4G's baseband modem to see if any NS4G stuff is usable in CM7 for the Epic.
Is there a stable sense rom out for the nexus s 4g?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
just download from 4shared.com yhe fancy widget...then use the htc theme
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
No, when the GSM version has a stable version so will we. The same developer is working on it for both.
Btw, this is the development forum. Its not for questions.
There isn't a Sense ROM for the nexus S 4G .. that I've heard of at least.
Here's the thread with most, if not all of the available ROMs as of now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071500
If you don't care about 4G, try out MIUI.
And use the questions and answers section, not development
edit: way beat me to it.
My bad y'all I'm new to this forum thing. I'm using miui now. Lol

I thought the point of this phone was to not have Sense...
Or Touchwiz, or whatever custom UI/framework OEMs put on their phones.
But especially Sense.

How come the gsm nexus s has more/cooler roms than the ns4g. Is there anyway or anyone who will port them over to the NS4G?

The GSM nexus s had a 4 month head start. It is also sold worldwide where the cdma version is only sold in the US.

So there is more roms to come to the ns4g in the future?
Yes, I in the meantime there is already some quality stuff.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
This is one time where i'm actually happy about the quality of the few ROMs for the NS4G vs the quantity of ROMs. I see MIUI (awesome, my favourite) and i think 3 or 4 other ROMs and they're all top quality stuff.
Being already AOSP i don't think there's much to change really.
The Quality is pretty good i love Miui i used to have it on my captivate but one of the main reasons why i got ns4g was because of the 4g but miui doesnt support it yet so i rather have a themed rom that has that working
Hi all
Just a quick question about the radio and flashing.
I understand that when a device is flashed to a custom ROM, that a radio is cooked in. (am I correct?)
Now my situation is this. I live in Australia, and am thinking of purchasing a 2nd hand Inspire 4G (AT&T) from the US, but from my research, due to the Inspire's (from AT&T) frequencies being 850/1900, this causes a small problem in Australia, where only telstra's NextG network operates on this band.
So in effect, I would be limited to NextG if I had this phone in Australia. the other major carrier here (optus) uses 900/2100.
Not a biggie right now as I use telstra nextg, but I may want to change.
So, question would be, when a phone is flashed, can I change the radio via the ROM, or is the frequencies a phone uses controlled by hardware?
thanks.
It's hardware mate.

thanks mate.
now to decide if its worth it.....can get one pretty cheap compared to here in Australia.
Check out tmobile I don't recall the bands they use but they sell the desire HD which is the Inspire 4G for them.
Edit: http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-desire-hd/#specs
Looks like it is 900/2100
So now the question is, what provider will you stick to in Australia

Yeah its a tough decision ...I'm going to be moving soon to study, and where I'm going both carriers are good, but telstra is prob the dearest. Where I currently live needs telstra and I get a sim card through work (I use my own phone though)
So I basically need a 850 phone for 3 months then I can use whatever .......
I just bought one and I am on Telstra. I also have a desire hd. Inspire in my opinion is the best choice.
Inspire can still run on Optus. My missus uses it occasionally with no issues.

I had an HTC Amaze for about a week and then my wife wanted a smart phone too so I sold it to buy two HTC sensations. The only problem I am having now is that my service where I work is a lot worse with the sensation. I don't know if it is just the phone I have or if it would be the same with any sensation. I found a cheaper HTC Amaze on a craigslist type site here in salt lake and I am thinking of buying it, but I wanted some of your opinions. Should I try to root my sensation and see if with a different radio I get better service or should I buy the HTC Amaze. I have rooted phones before but then I become a flashaholic and I spend too much time on my phone. I like the size of the Sensation but if I don't want to root again would the Amaze be worth the extra hundred I would have to spend over the price I can sale my Sensation for? Your opions and thoughts would be very helpfull.
Thanks
Eddy
Sorry I probably should have posted this in Q&A.
It's. Hard to say because I have nevee used an Amaze and I haven't hhave any issues with my Sensation reception either, someone that have used both might be able to give you their insight.

Try another radio, I've heard that can help if you have reception issues.
Personally, I would not change due to reception issues. You are not at work 24/7...
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
depends on what phone you like better, i think u miss your old amaze lol
youve got nothing to lose just rooting and flashing another radio really
I don't think sensation is better than Amaze. Everthing is the same but Amaze hasa much much better camera => thumb up
amaze has more ram as well
You need to make sure your RIL file matches the radio you are using. With a matched RIL i get HSDPA signal at hom, without it i barely get EDGE.
go to Settings>About Phone>More>Baseband version (radio)
Then get the matching RIL HERE
Well I think that sensation wins

The amaze has dual radios so it takes two connections at once resulting in a faster speed
i would have to say the amaze since i did experience some lag on the sensation when i had one.

Wrong, on both points.
T-Mobile uses dual channel HSPA+, which is essentially 2 21mbps radios slapped together.
And wimax does need dual radios, but LTE only needs 2 on Verizon. On AT&T, it'll all in one radio.

I thought croandroid was an idiot until this post. It really is all about the dev community. Good call.
The Sensation has AMAZING dev support. Has some REALLY talented folks cooking and coding for it, and in general is a great device.
I own a Sensation and my wife owns an Amaze....
I have had LOTS of problems with my sensation though, I've been through 3 sensations through tmobile, and even sent one to HTC to have it looked at. Phone has never been right for me.
Tmo has just issued me a replacement, it will be here monday, they are sending me an Amaze, not nearly the dev support for that phone, but at least i'll be able to have a running phone and able to make calls.

Combing two points is a dual cell. Which is one radio capable of dual channels. Other devices still get affected by the network. None of the other non lte or wimax devices improve non lte and wimax devices. Which are separate radios. Two radios slap together is still one radio.
I'm just wondering how at&t can put lte on one radio when a bigger company namely Verizon didn't do it either. T-Mobile is still using its aws frequency and at&t is using 850 and 1900 frequency. For its lte its using 700mhz. Just like Verizon.
