[Q] Notification Sound after Thunderbolt Root - General Questions and Answers

yesterday i rooted my verizon htc thunderbolt. everything went perfect. however, ever since the root, my thunderbolt will make the sound as it is getting a sms/email (the zeta sound). the sound is intermittent but this gets annoying. im not saying it is the rooting that caused the issue, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this is occurring. please help. thanks.

Just noticed something. The sound happens every hour. But not the top of the hour. It occurs at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, etc..... I also noticed that the automatic time gets set to Argentina..... Please help!

[Q] Vibration doesn't work

So i've had my Nexus S for a little over a month now, and this morning when I woke up, the phone doesn't vibrate at all anymore. It shouldn't just be a setting because I've rebooted, played with the haptic feedbacks, played with the alarm, etc etc. Nothing works.
Has anyone else had this problem? Did the vibration on my phone just die? I've searched through XDA, and some people have had vibration issues, but only when receiving sms.
(I'm stock everything > locked, unrooted, stock rom)
Hoping someone knows a fix. Thanks in advance!!

Don't worry, juat wipe everything....hold power and vol.up....after you know what to do
Sigh. I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that. I will try a full wipe and restore it this weekend and get back to you. Thanks so much for your help!!

Its gonna work trust me.
This may sound stupid, and maybe you've already checked, but under your sound settings is the vibrate set to always? I have things mysteriously uncheck themselves from time to time.. other than that, sadly, wiping would be the way to go..
So I haven't wiped yet because I was working all day but the vibrating came back on it's own for a while. Then it stopped again and now it's back again. Is this a bug? I will wipe this weekend to see it it will fix it completely.
Also, I've checked the settings and ok pretty sure it's set to always vibrate.

I remember long ago i had sony ericsson i500 (i think) and it had the same problem but one day it broke so i opened it and found out that the cable connecting the "motherboard" to the vibrator wasnt connected properly , you may have the same problem.

Htc Thunderbolt Update Woes

Okay so how many of you were thinking this was the update that would make the Thunderbolt better? Let me know of any issues you have been having since the update yesterday. I am speaking of the official non rooted update for the phone fyi.. So far I have compiled a list below of the issues I have experienced personally on my phone.
1. Randomly rebooting
2. Dropped calls and random reboots during calls
3. Gps issues still prevalent
4. Freezes while opening text messages or closing them
5. Noticeable lag when in app menu
If you guys have any other issues please post them and if there is a way to rollback the update without root please post.
Just updated last night and right away I notice I get no GPS lock at all (unless it takes 15+ min). No reboots yet.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yes I have noticed too that gps searches forever..
Yea, mine has rebooted twice since yesterday also. I'll have to try GPS later today. As for the rest of those complaints, I'm not sure. Weren't they supposed to fix the car mode thing? There's still no way to get to car mode unless you use the one search function.
I updated last night and had a few reboots this morning while using the hotspot. I just tested the gps with the GPS Status app and got a lock in my livingroom in 11secs. My gps has always worked good, but it seems to be locking a good bit quicker.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
I'm also getting reboots and during calls also and GPS is no longer locking. Anything i can do about this?
I just used GPS Status and got a lock almost instantly. W/o it I wasn't able to get a lock at all.
Edit: GPS Status did not fix my lock problem. Worked once however I can't get a lock anymore :/

For anyone who is not rooted and getting random reboots, please call VZW support and voice your problem.
They obviously were not reading this forum when half the people with the leaked RUU were getting reboots.
VZW won't issue a hotfix unless people call up and complain and/or start returning phones.
My problem is with phone being idle the battery drains quicker. Before I would lose between 1-3% every hour, now its more like 6-7%. When I check battery use details Android system uses between 60-70% when prior to update it was in single digits.

I talked to tech. support and was told a small percentage of Thunderbolts were experiencing these problems. As w/ every problem I'm being sent another "like-new" phone.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
From what I have read, the issue is not with Thunderbolts, It's with the towers you're communicating with. The towers need their software fixed to work correctly with the new RUU. If you guys can, I'd wait it out and see if it gets better. I understand that a random reboot can be a huge deal (I came from a Storm 1) but if it is not wrecking your day or costing you business/clients/money etc., wait a week and see. It can be easier than trying to go through all of the set-up again to get your "new" phone the way you want.
6 reboots yestsrday. 10% battery drain each. Do the math kids. My tb isn't much more than a land line now because it's always plugged in. Returning it for sure. And they just sent me a new battery because I was only getting 5 hours max out of it.
I have had the update for a few hours now and non stop use on the phone so far no crashes or reboots. Phone is not rooted and not using any custom roms. So far so good

Mine reboots 2-3 times every hour.some freeze issues but not too many. Am thinking it would have been better to wait.. hope they get the tower software fixed also...

[Q] No sound after long sleep

Happened a couple of times, if I put the down for a hour or so then start to use it again then sometimes it wakes with no sound and I have to reboot it to get sound working anyone else had this

I've noticed that as well.
When i got my device it was actually in sleep mode - wasn't shut down.
When it first woke up - i had no sound. a Reboot fixed it.. didn't really get the chance to play with it much since (just happened yesterday).
Mine does that too

I have also experienced this a few times.
I've had this happen once. I have a long list of problems I've encountered. Now that my touchscreen is totally dead and no amount of rebooting will fix it, I'm convinced I have a lemon.
Any solution for this? I just got my tablet and it everytime I have wanted to play sound, I had to reboot. The reboot process is slow, I don't want to do this every time I want a bit of sound.
I've run into this myself after applying the latest patch. Thus far it's the biggest issue I have, and it's certainly an irksome one.
Yet more great service from asus had a pm about this problem going to provide some thing to log it as they cant produce this fault proves theyvare listening

I have this problem as well. No sound after long sleep. Reboot would fix it. This happened after latest update.
Occasionally I have the no sound after sleep but a reboot fixes it.
Just another data point.
im in the uk and i have noticed that since the update yesterday this problem seems to have stopped, i know ASUS haven't worked on it as i have been discussing it with them via PM, is anyone else who updated yesterday finding this problem seems to have gone away

Another case: sometimes no sound after long (over 1 hour) sleep.
I seem to have this issue as well. +1 for a fix.
Sorry for the double post, but I thought it was worth it to say I have not been having this problem since the upgrade to 3.1. I will post back if the issue reoccurs.
Sadly, I have this issue, losing sound after long sleep. Seems to me that the only way to restore sound is by a shutdown/restart. Seems like Asus/Google can't get it fixed. I'm on ICS, Android 4.0.3, build 9.2.1.24.
If sound ever cuts out on me (It hardly ever does) Usually a mute and unmute, then a force close of the system vol control fixes it.

all calls default to speakerphone, any ideas?

Driving me insane. Doesn't matter what ROM I'm running, it does it 90% of the time for incomming and outgoing calls.
Anyone have any ideas?
Mine randomly does this as well. It's a rather unpleasant experience to have the speakerphone on @ your ear when someone responds to your answering the phone.
I've had mine turn on in the middle of a call once or twice. I thought I had somehow hit something not knowing it.
Had that problem. Believe it has something to do with the "car dock" mode. somehow it gets turned on or something. Don't really remember what I did other then try resetting it, pulling battery, or just smacking the crap out of it onto a table or something. I'm serious, not hard enough to break it but enough to fix it hehe. I'm actually pretty sure that's what I did lol.

I'm having this issue all of a sudden as well. All I know, is it didn't do it before I got the Gingerbread OTA update, and now it does.
Very annoying!

Same issue here. Running stock non-rooted GB. Also on wife's LG Phoenix. Could be something sent down from ATT?
Try going to settings - dock - remove check from Auto-launch. I'm wondering if it thinks for some reason it's docked and therefore defaulting to Speaker
Just found out that GoSMS was the problem. Updated on both phones and the problem is gone. They actually admitted to it with the update description.
I have the same issue. Went as far as flashing back to stock unrooted. Still occurred. I believe its a hardware problem with the usb on the phone. Something about the contacts crossing.

GoSMS Pro was doing it for me. Uninstalled and problem went away. I'm gonna reinstall to see what happens.
Just updated my GoSMS, and was surprised to see the issue came from there. It will be nice to not have to deal with this anymore!

Was there a solution to this issue? Because I have the same issue, but I do not have the GoSMS app.

If you read the thread you would have seen that the two causes of the problem were dock mode and also go sms. Not to mention this was dug up from 3months ago
Thanks for your reply.
Guess I should have mentioned dock mode does not seem to be whats causing it on mine.
I understand this was dug up from 3 months ago, but I am having the issue now was good back then.
Same happens with me... i hav removed dock mode also but still have speaker always on..
any solutions?
I recommend root and custom rom. Never had this problem since then.

Okey I am having this problem on every rom whether its ics or gb.
The culprit is carhome app.I have be after this problem since I got my inspire. It gave me whole lot of trouble. Latest one is force auto-rotate screen.
Another thing is u need original inspire charger and usb. If u have anyone thing which is not original. Carhome app will cause problems. Unfortunately my inspire charger and USB r broken.
The only solution is to open the rom zip delete carhome.apk and carhomeluncher.
How I come to conclusion.
I charged my phone then flashed aospx rom everything was fine no auto speaker, no forced auto rotation but as soon as I connected my USB carhome app pops up and
All these problem started to happen again.

same problem
Hi, I have the same problem with the New Att stock sense 3.0 (3.20.502.52) rooted ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810461
The Car Panel app was launching randomly, so I first froze it using root uninstaller, no more car panel launching, but my screen started randomly turning on while in sleep, so I completely uninstalled Car Panel, my screen still goes on sometimes, and it did not solve the speaker always on problem.
Cheers.

Once carhome starts there is no way to solve the problem.even after removing it problem remains.
Best solution is delete it from the zip before installing

I have found my screen won't stay off when I hold it up to my ear. Light sensor is very sensitive or my ear is shaped weird... Probably the later. I then think 'fat facing' because of this has attributed to random hangups and speaker phone engagements.

HOX speaker volume gets very low until reboot

I've not seen anyone here mention this, but it's being discussed on other Android forums. Thought I'd post here on XDA in hopes that some of the more technical members of this forum might have some input or ideas.
I noticed one day recently that the Google Navigation voice was so low I couldn't hear the directions over the sound of my car's A/C, which I know had not been the case before. All volumes were at max. This continued for the rest of the day, and all ringtones and notification sounds were very low. IT was so dramatic, I just assumed the speaker went bad, and I was going to have to make an insurance claim over a defective phone.
I happened to reboot the phone that evening and instantly the speaker volume was 3-4x as loud as earlier that day. I thought it was a one-time thing, but now realize that this happens 3-4 times a week. I'll notice I can't hear any of the notification sounds very well, reboot the phone, and all is well.
Except, this is a pain in the @ss to have to reboot constantly!
Has anyone experienced this? I thought I would recognize a pattern, like some app I use regularly or something, but nothing seems to make sense... seems very arbitrary, but aggravating nonetheless.
As I said, this is being talked about on a lot of the other HOX forums, but I haven't seen it mentioned specifically here. I almost want to say it started after the AT&T update last month, because I never noticed it before that. I'm on stock AT&T HOX, not rooted, and only a handful of the 'regular' popular apps. I don't even have music on the phone, nor have I ever used earbuds with it.
Very frustrating!
I have had the exact same thing happen, no clue why though.
I started a thread awhile back. Mine does the sane as well.. pissed..hope its software issue
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Same here, I'm leaning towards it being a software issue due to a reboot always fixing it.
What ROM are you on?Custom or Stock?Any mods done to the phone?I had the same issue with the phone volume being to low on a custom rom, until I went into recovery to wipe cache/dalvick and everything was good/loud again.

I can vouch for this solution. I had the same issues on my HOX when I installed a custom ROM.
In the "Special Notes" section of the CleanROM v4.1 notes, it states:
Volume may be quite. If so wipe cache's and reflash the ROM. Volume should be loud again.

Hopefully it's as simple of a fix as this!!
I'm completely stock, no custom ROMs, not rooted.
I have the same problem, stock and rooted. I recently started noticing it. It didn't always happen to me.
I do use Tasker to put my media volume all the way down once i exit my car. Then I use Elixr 2 to put all my volumes to high once I use my "home" profile. I think it might be cause of that. Since I've stopped using exlir to raise the volume, I haven't noticed the issue. But I have restarted my phone every 2 days recently for another issue so it is possible that I am fixing it each time before the symptoms start to occur
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Has anyone found a permanent solution to this? It's my only gripe. I have tried two sense roms. I love HTC camera so I don't want asop. Volume plus doesn't help when volume drops off.

Do you hear a difference between when it's low and then restarting your phone and trying it again?

I can't detect any difference and if there is it is too small to detect. I tried to amplify the sound with Volume+ and there is no detectable difference. But if I use the speaker for a call, at maximum volume, it is really really loud so the speaker is definitely capable of more. But with Satnav GPS apps, at default settings, between the One X and my old Galaxy S2, there is a night and day difference
I too had these issues on replacement phone I got from att but it resolved automatically after few days
From beast called HTC One X
this problem causes due to an App, in my case previous version of Viber App caused all this issues....
hope you solve this prob
