About 5 minutes ago I received a notification regarding software upgrade for my Milestone, and true enough it's an upgrade to Froyo. It's available as a 20.7MB .exe file from the official website.
Is it possible to check kernel version without flashing it? I'm running a custom ROM and I don't want to brick it...
And isn't 20.7MB a bit small?
Update: Ok. I think the 20.7MB file is a program to update phones. If anybody (or your girlfriend/wife/grandfather/kid/neighbour/dog) updates it could we have some information here? I'm not optimistic that there'll be an updated or unlocked kernel but we can always hope =)
If you are on custom ROM, I'm not very sure how is it. But I will recommend download and flash the SBF from this website. I think it will be much safer.

Singapore Froyo already there, the below link is a service version sbf, flash it through rsdlite.

Thanks for the replies! Disapponting that there are still DSI errors. (not that I was hoping for much anyway)

Try to flash it with the US RC29 or the UK firmware. But I don't think this will work as the SPL will block it.
AFAIK there's no way to get root at the non US/UK/Dev G1 at this time.
Michael
try update using rc30 update.zip file. I think you will install SPL for US region and you can flash back to RC29
Does it work? Because i wanted to buy the German G1 but if I can't root it, I will buy the UK Version.
@n8gk
work root with the US SPL ??
have you try this ??
If you flash a US or UK firmware on a german G1,....
will the Keyboard work correct ? the Layout for Z and Y are different.
Where can I get the RC30 update.zip file
Ther german has also a build 123099.
I didn't try to update, because I don't wanna loose the ability to go back to the original.
Waiting that a original one is out first. (because of language and keyboard)
Not Allowed
I tried to downgrade with rc29 firmware, but it isnt possible...
Checking...
Loading...
Not Allowed...
And then stuck in the bootloader...
I also got my G1 last week and it also has the 123099 Build.(I live in Austria) If there is any way how i can help to root this build (upload it?), let me know.
If i flash an UK or US firmware on my phone (suppose some genius finds a way how to do it) wouldn't it render the "Disable Data-Roaming" function useless, when i travel to one of these countries? And even deactivate the data connection in my home country?
In Austria tmo offers a roaming block on their side so i do not have to use this function on the phone, but i am just curious...
Maybe one of the more experienced users in here could tell us about the chances of rooting such a device.
Are there any or did Google / T-Mobile finally fix the backdoor completely?
Greetings,
Becksman
In device info the build description is:
kila_eu-user 1.1 TMI-RC4 123099
ota-rel-keys,release-keys
And build id:
TMI-RC4
The backdoor has been fixed for some time now... But as long as you were able to revert to an older image you can re-root your device, but we are not able to do this because we would need to use an image with another CID and that is not allowed with the original SPL. But the only way to change SPL is when you have your device rooted...
Correct me if im wrong plz..
So that means bad news for the European G1 owners?
seems so. and because the developers here already got a us-hacked version, they not seem to be interested in hacking this 1.1 firmware the one or other way.
are the european developers to stupid/busy to do it? or are they so clever to get a us one?
in the european firmware 1.1-version the manufacturer has alredy fixed the lame telnetd-root bug and the bootloader. and this is, on what the us-g1-hacks are based on.
i have the hope that some day a local root exploit will apear, which exploits the kernel or another vital component of the g1 to get root without telnetd.
maybe such a kernel exploit will be discovered in the standard linux kernel which can be portet to android; or some great reversing/hacking-debugging-genious-mastermind finds an android exploit all by himself.
android is so new, there MUST be bugs to exploit locally.
Iam a highlevlel-programmer, iam not able to find such local root vulnerabillities.
way to open EU G1
one guy from Czech republic did it

Hey guys, im new.
Got a question if you dont mind? (hope this is the right place to post)
I have a Galaxy S2 GT i9100, im on the network 3 in the UK, and the phone is unbranded and unlocked.
i recently flashed the Polish version of the official ICS because i am impatient. (3 released their version 3 days later )
so, i began the process of flashing an older rom, KE7 to be exact, just so Kies can accept my phone to back up and to receive the latest official UK release of 3s ICS. I have successfully flashed and kies recognised my phone, but the version it is suggesting to update to is KI4??
Do i need to update the firmwares previous to ICS before i can actually get ICS?
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks
You need to flash the 3 branded firmware in order to get the recent 3 update. If that's what you did then I don't know what's wrong. If you didn't do that then go get the correct firmware from here...

Thanks for the reply,
foolishly i never checked what the original firmware was, but i never had a '3' logo on the boot up of the phone, i didnt buy it from '3' either, i got it from an online based contract provider on '3'.
So i just assumed i could reflash a sim free firmware then kies would recognise my number as being a '3' number - or is this not the case?
Do you think i should download the KI4 and see if it recommends a futher update?
Cheers
will do, il report back.
Officially updated through kies to 2.3.4 KI4, but no update to ICS. hmm, not sure what to do next, try another base firmware?
Any suggestions?
If you have an official 3 firmware then it should be offering you the update, as far as I'm aware. I suppose the fact that it came from a non-3 supplier may make a difference.
The alternative is to just download and flash the latest 3 firmware yourself, which you can get here...
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=1
Just scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see LPQ for 3 customers.
ahh, that was going to be my next question 'would the fact i got it through a third party vendor determin whether i got ics through 3' i cant find a clear answer for this.
so if i take the bloatware on the chin and get ics through odin on 3, would kies recognise this and enable me to back up?
I just took delivery on a SM_P905V, what a beautiful piece of equipment.
It was used in is loaded with Android 4.2.2. When I go to update software, it says its unavailable.
How do I get an OTA update?
Edit: Samsung site had the OT1 Lollypop 5.0.1. Now I wonder if they will update to Marshmellow?
Running great; and I couldn''t be much happier.
I suggest you use 'odin method' because its really fast but if you are not experienced with that method then I suggest you use samsung kies3 software on windows to update it. As for ota method, It varies region to region if new software isn't released in your region then use these alternative methods. Thank you , hope it helps
Hm, latest version for the P905V is P905VVRUBOH1/P905VVZWBOH1
Was it a new device or used?
You can use ODIN to flash the latest firmware manually. You can grab the newest firmware version to flash off Sammobile.
EDIT:
What files do I need from storagecow link in the OP to do a 100% proper flash? The .zip only contains boot.img and system.img but I've heard you need the modem file as well?
There's others on storagecow like patched20fboot.img? rpm.img? tz.img? Should I grab all the files and put them in a zip and then flash? Or should I flash them one by one in a certain order?
I GREATLY appreciate any help. Please note I'm only after official LG firmware, no cyanogenmod or anything.

Hiya. Brand new to XDA forums so I apologize if this has been mentioned before.
I'm gonna make this as quick as I can. I bought an unlocked LG G3 from ebay
Opened it up and turned it on, first thing I did was check for firmware updates because it was still on KitKat. Nothing for some reason. (if you know why please answer in your response)
I'm new to rooting/flashing firmware but I did my best at researching on how to flash it to Lollipop which I successfully did but I had a few small problems afterwards.
Google Chrome refused to update no matter what I tried, taking screenshots wouldn't work and I couldn't delete the firmware files on the internal storage. So I ended up reverting back to the stock KitKat room, unrooted with no TWRP.
This phone is gift to someone so I'd like it to be in perfect working order, but I would like it to run stock LG Lollipop as well as Marshmallow when it comes out soon.
First question is, is there a way to update the firmware with an official LG software or do I have to flash it? I've heard when you're 2 firmwares behind OTA no longer works.
If not, what files do I need from storagecow (I can't post the link cus I'm new) to do a proper flash? The .zip only contains boot.img and system.img but I've heard you need the modem file as well?

You'll have to root, and use a custom stock rom. It'll only OTA update if you insert an active AT&T sim.
What I want to do: I was trying to OTA update my phone software to the latest, but it seems I am behind on many updates. On the AT&T website, I saw that I need the previous updates installed first, in order to get the latest ones. I have to go in order.
Problem: Every-time I try to do a software update from the settings, it says “Current software is up to date.” It’s been saying that for over a year now. I can’t even get the updates from last year.
So is there a way I can flash one of the stock firmware updates from last year on to my phone with Odin and see if it will fix the ‘over the air’ updates? Or can I just skip to the most recent firmware and flash that one.
By the way, I have never done anything like this to my phone before, so I am a bit nervous, but I want to get this problem fixed so I would love if someone helped me out. I did see some articles online about flashing stock firmware, that’s how I learned about Odin.
If this is doable, can someone please link me to a thorough tutorial on this process? If it isn’t, can you guys recommend another way of getting to the latest 8.0 stock firmware?
My phone:
Galaxy S8 plus (AT&T)
Model#: SM-G955U
Android version: 7.0
Baseband version: G955USQS1AQF7
Android security patch level: June 1, 2017
Kernel version: 4.4.16-11449429
My phone isn't unlocked.

You can Odin flash CRG3 and the next OTA should be CRHI, so once you go thru settings, check for updates it should want to go to CRHI. And then you should be in the Update path to receive OTA's automatically

Thanks, so is it okay to flash it with the latest version of Odin? Also, do you mind linking me with an up to date / reliable tutorial on this? This is my first time attempting to do something like this.
One more thing, on Sammobile, there is only one firmware available for at&t, and it's the oldest one.

Okay, and is it okay if I flash from a firmware from May 2018? It's about 4 months old. Would I be able to OTA update from there on? Also, what is AT&T userdata? I came across it in this thread and I was wondering. https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s8+/how-to/g955u-att-stock-odin-files-firmware-t3769140

Yes you can use this firmware and start to receive updates, User data I'm not 100% sure but I think its supposed to flash your data so you wont have to reinstall everything but I heard it dosent work for At&t it will still do a complete wipe before install.

I flashed it and it works great so far. Thanks for all the help! The OTA update also seems to be working!
