Water damage indicator? - HTC Inspire 4G

Is there any other indicator for water damage besides the one on the battery? My phone got wet. It was in a plastic baggie so it only got barely wet, but enough so that it's not working and the battery indicator is red. Thinking about using a friends battery and seeing if I can get it warrantied if that's the only visible indication.

I guess you can watch this video to see if there are indicators for water inside the phone. Not sure if the inspire 4g is exactly the same as far as location for the indicators. HTC Desire HD is essentially the same phone.

My phone took a swim with me in a pool when I got pushed in. I immediately took it out of my pocket and handed it off to a person standing by. They disasembled it had it sit out in the sun to dry. Unfortunately, it could not be saved. It must have short circuited as soon as it hit the water. Thankfully, I had insurance on it. When I called the 800 number to file a claim, I told then it sustained water damage. They never asked me to look at any indicators. They took my word for it and processed my claim. But it may be a different procedure for warranty.

Thanks for that video link. I didn't see anything conspicuous that looked like an indicator. I guess I'll just have to try it and see.

Well I powered the phone up yesterday after letting it sit in a bag of rice for 24 hours. It powered up and went to the CM7 boot animation but I saw that there was water under the screen so I pulled the battery. Letting it sit for a few more days in the rice, in my truck so it gets nice and toasty and hopefully the water will evaporate.

Try to avoid direct sunlight to the LCD screen for a long period of time. The suns UV rays can damage it over time. Just a heads up..

I have read in the past with iPhone's sustaining water damage that people would soak it in rubbing alcohol to remove water, and replace the battery, and have it working fine, not sure on the credibility of this but maybe something you should look into?
Also, a few years ago I had an LG flip phone that was in my pocket during an unplanned swim(got pushed in by a drunk friend who thought I had changed) the phone was dead for a long time, but about a month later it booted up fine and worked perfectly for another year, after a year the only remnants of water damage was a speaker that was starting to blow

Good to know!

I know this is old but I had to find the liquid damage indicator for an Inspire today.
To find the indicator on the Inspire you must remove the bottom panel where your SD and Sim are located. Then under the FC and Bluetooth logo and under the plastic there is a square -- that square is the liquid damage indicator.
Unfortunetly you can not bleach it without removing the void stickers and using a mini star hex screwdriver and taking the phone apart.
If this helps thank me please

I suppose no one would know if taking the back off the atrix would void it's warranty? I don't see any warranty void stickers on any screws. Hopefully there isn't screws under the sticker under the battery.
By the way the bleach doesn't seem to work at all on these new phones. Unless I'm doing something wrong? I don't condone this either just a thought.. any feedback?
I put about 10 drops in total after each drop sitting in the sun drying for 10 minutes each time. Didn't change it at all.

dropped my phone in the toilet,... DOH

okay, i soaked my phone in isopropyl alcohol, then placed it into damprid (a descant, like rice) for almost 52 hours now, the phone functions properly, my speaker will not work, and there is water between my digitizer and lcd.
I am going to place it back in the descant for now, but ive seen no improvement in the amount of liquid between the digitizer and lcd as of yet so it's doubtful i will.
I would like to take my digitizer off and attempt to remove the excess water. ideas? I do have alot of experience in working on small electronics (i fix computers and small electronics for a living), ie. ipods, other phones. just not the thunderbolt, any ideas suggestions? links to a good tear down procedure?
Thanks

Word of advice...keep it powered off till the liquid is removed, it may screw your digitizer ribbon up or worse.

I would recomend making sure that you have removed all of the water before putting the battery back in your Thunderbolt. Water conducts electricity and you can fry some of your components.
I would try putting it in the oven for a bit on warm, it might help dry it out.
When my wife washed my flip phone years back, it had water under the screen for a couple of months before it finally all dried out.

This can work but be real careful or you'll melt it. I say warm it up and shut it down and then place it in. It should help remove that trapped water

I think my oven on warm is between 125-150 degrees, cool enough that I can take a plate out without mitts.
Here's a chart of plastic melting points:

I would just let it cool before doing anything with it.

Use a hair dryer to heat it up?
Do you do this work for a job or hobby?
If its your job you should know better than to use isopropyl alcohol, it leaves noticeable residue, go get some denatured alcohol and take the thing apart.

That's what I would do. You can buy a new screen for cheap, the digitizer costs a little more but if you don't have insurance (like me) it would not be a bad idea.

lol. just shot chocolate muscle milk out my nose and on my shirt. thanks.
microwave, popcorn setting, 6 minutes... works for me every time.
Throw it in dryer with dry close put it in a pocket with velcrow or a zipper
Omgadroid is Linux only
Rice. Wife dropped her BB in the pool last year and we where able to save the phone for another month (and get her data off) by placing it in a bag of white rice for a few days. That stuff sucked all the moisture right out of the phone.
We did find random rice pieces for a while falling out of the phone after it started working though! lol
Rice will do the trick.
Hubby left his Droid Eris in his pocket, so when his pants went into the washer, so did the phone, for a full cycle.
When I transferred the clothes into the dryer I hear a suspicious clink clank...
Took the phone apart, stuck it in rice. After a few days I tried powering it up with the original battery and no dice, so I tried a different battery and voila!
There were some water spots under the screen, but they eventually went away and you can't tell anymore what it went through at all.
The original battery actually started to work again as well, just needed a little longer in the rice and hubby has been using it with the phone since then. All this happened in March or April 2010, can't remember exactly.
Our phones are pretty tough little devices. I have been trying to get hubby to upgrade, but he is stubborn and won't part with his phone lol!
If you do get the liquid out of the screen, please repost and let us know how you did it.

I'm in some serious trouble!!! My screen stopped working!!

Hey guys,
I was at work playing a mkv file in my car then I cool myself off by dripping water on me and I accidentally drip a little bit on the screen I suddenly notice my screen lowering the volume by itself and I quickly dried it off. Afterwards, I notice the screen brightest on the left side (facing up) started flickering I immediately knew there was going to be serious issues. I turned off the phone, checked the casing for any drippings and found no water drips inside the casing. I turned on the phone to find a quick pixelated screen for a quick season then booted to the HTC theme..
The phone booted to the home screen that's when the screen started to flicker similar to a computer's VGA, DVI or HDMI cable is loose in the back every pixel color on the screen starts flashing in colors. The screen turned pink then stopped working..
Here's the good news: I'm covered with tmobiles premium insurance and HTC's insurance...
Here's the bad news: I s-off, rooted and flashed a rom 12hrs ago..
Technically speaking, I'm screwed because I can't get the screen to function to revert back the changes and Idk what to do.. If you've any thoughts or ideas to help me fix this issue please I'll gladly appreciate.
There is 2 real options.
One is repair the screen all though somehow I don't think the water has caused the problem, modern mobile devices can usually withstand a small amount of water including light rain and maybe a light splash of liquid. They are all tested for this kind of thing. It sounds like something physical as I'm fairly sure it wont be the ROM to blame, so by this you should be able to claim on the insurance as its a physical defect and would of happened regardless of flashing etc. I can't be sure how successful you'll be with this though, its probably best to go to the HTC insurance for this as tmobile with blow it off as quick as possible.
The other option is not advised and is classed as insurance fraud which is highly illegal there for won't be putting it down in writing due to not wanting to upset the admins, mods and rules of the forum. But I'm sure you all know what the procedure is.
Hope this helps though bud. Good luck.
After fully inspecting the case and the phone itself.. I just realized the little drip of water could've made its way inside the phone small gap after noticing something white stuck in there..
I gotta have the idea that if the screen doesn't work then they can't see what's inside it right? lol.. I'm going to discharge the phone and let it dry then pray it works so I can revert the changes then make a claim.

Check your insurance policy, accidental damage might be covered. Surely they can't make all claims void if the device software has been modified. In my eyes HTC actively encourages it.

HTC won't blow me off despite it being rooted and having a different rom? I know tmobile would blow me off if they found out I rooted the damn thing.. Maybe idk honestly.. I could smash it to pieces and say I dropped in a 3 story building still be covered (I asked this question before purchasing the insurance haha)..

The best option is probably let the device dry off. Reboot it in a few hours, assess the damage if any, if its fixable or fine go for that, if its beyond fixing then take it as far as you see fit mate
Try drying your phone out on a windowsill or somewhere else warm, with the back case off and the battery out for a few hours, then give the phone a try again.
If that doesnt work then I suggest following RoganTheTwat's advice! You should be ok with the root situation...

Thanks RoganTheTwat,
I'm definitely going to do that and if not then claim it with tmobile or HTC! I hope I get more opinions and knowledge like yours.
If nothing helps,DO NOT drive over it, and DO NOT claim accidental damage. If you do, you would commit fraud and would take minuscule amount of money from their HUGE profits, which they get by ripping off customers. So DO NOT do anything like that mate.
I would say Take battery off and the cover then try to keep the phone in a warm dry environment
very important to keep battery out and phone off since there is a sign of possible water damage.
the drying part you can keep it in a zip lock bag of rice it will help absorbing moisture and water.
or "Carefully with this one" wrap it up with cotton cloth and apply Warm air by a hair dryer( Do NOT set it on HOT ) apply it randomly don't constraint on one area and make sure you keep distant.
let me how that work Good Luck

This was accidental damage I didn't purposely pour drips of water onto my phone because I wanted to know what will happen. There's no fraud under tmobile's policy if I claim it to be accidental or anything else.. I'm paying $7mo for premium insurance.

If the rice doesnt work, try something stronger. You can get stuff at the grocery store that is meant for drying out moist rooms. I use it to keep the bathroom dry.

[Q] Water damage month ago

One month ago the phone fall into the water...
Battery was immidiately removed and phone was left to dry...
Well...nothing works...
I've read something about water damage indicators...
There are two white indicators...on the battery and under it...
And there is one red on the side of the device...
Is there anything that can be done after one month of not using it after the accident?
Thanks

Unlikely, depends on what the water has corroded inside but it's probably a total loss. Water immersion requires immediate action, e.g. sealed inside a bag of rice in a warm spot for 24 hrs etc. to stand any chance of success.
I dropped mine in the bath once, was more difficult to find than the soap, but the phone is still working fine six months later - but it spent a day in the airing cupboard inside a sealed bag of rice. Now I read in the bath with a ziploc bag around the phone.
My boss spilt water on his sensation in the middle of the night and didn't realise till the morning. After a few hours of ineffectually trying to dry it out I told him to seal it in a bag with some silica gel. Next day the phone functioned OK but the screen was dead. The moisture sensor was OK so he sent it off for a warranty repair and now his wife uses it!!

[Q] SW2 not as waterproof as what it says it is, what should i do?

It was raining quite heavily in the weekend and I was wearing my SW2 and the charging cover was firmly pressed in as I always make sure it is after every time I charge it and it got a bit wet and seemed to be working fine during the weekend after it had gotten wet but today I noticed that the top half of the screen isn't responding pretty much at all and I can very very rarely pull down the notification bar or swipe the screen using the top half of the display but I am able to press the icons in that part. I also noticed the light sensor has little bubbles of moisture in it. Would I be able to claim it under warranty seeing it is meant to be IP57 and should have been able to be worn in the rain?

Even if they do have the indicators they advertise it as water resistant, I would assume as long you don't tell them you went scuba diving with it or something crazy like that you should be good to go. That said I have never had to file a warranty claim on a Sony product before so I have no idea how much of a hassle they may give somebody.

It did start working perfectly fine yesterday but today its suddenly become unusable where just sliding along the screen its stuttering because its picking up my finger on and off rapidly and the capacitive buttons underneath aren't responding as much as they should so I think ill just do a warranty claim saying I was walking home in the rain and didn't bother about covering the watch because it was meant to be water resistant so I assumed it would be fine seeing my phone isn't water resistant and I use that in the rain with no problems. The watch is only 4 months old so id expect them to replace it which if I get a new one I may just look into selling it new and getting google wear when they're released haha

Just a small word of caution. Sony do not claim the watch to be water proof so don't use that term. The watch is water resistant only and then to a very low IP standard. IP57 is not very useful to a watch. Better than the Gear 1 though. I still maintain this is a major problem with a watch.
Good luck with your situation.

it might be true only a small batch of watches was affected with this "glue problem", but i'm not taking any chancces when it comes to water, wearing this watch in the shower (or worse) is an accident waiting to happen....
The same thing happened to me. I just pour some water to clean the watch when it was turned off yesterday. Today it begun not showing anything on screen and later its tactile display is no responding. Also, as some of you pointed, there is small drops of water in the light sensor.
I feel really disappointed...

S7 Edge that spent 10 months at the bottom of the river... or.... Sponge Bobs S7 Edge

April 16th of last year I was fishing at my usual spot on the Indian River. I got up to get a drink out of the cooler and a gust of wind blew my folding chair into the river. What I didn't realize was that my less-than-1-week-old Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was in the cup holder of the chair.
After more than an hour of trudging around in the river, I drove home to tell my wife. We went back out to the river and I spent almost another hour trying to find it. We left empty handed and me shivering for the next 2-3 hours because the water was fairly cold.
I was out there again the next day and found myself back in the water searching. I came home empty-handed.
SO - I was thankful that I had gotten insurance on my phone (for the first time ever might I add!) and needless to say I've not left the phone in the cup holder ever again.
TODAY - My daughter and I were out fishing and she saw something in the water near where I lost it. It was silver - and shiny. I didn't think it was my phone though, as my phone was all black.
I reached down for the object with my landing net and pulled up my old phone LOL!
I'm sure it was due to water having gotten behind the screen, but both edges were now silver. The phone was in outstanding condition considering it's been at the bottom of the river for over 10 months. It does appear to have a crack in the screen though, but it could just be a scratch. The case was in shockingly good condition, in fact, after cleaning up the case I can honestly say that it could be used again - a real testament to Pelican cases!
Out of sheer morbid curiosity the phone is now sitting in a bag of cat litter until next weekend - I severely doubt it will ever turn on again, but hey, it's not like this experiment is going to cost me anything to do!
It looks almost like there was some battery acid leakage though - hard to say for sure. Appears to have come out of the speaker grill on the bottom. Looking at the inside of the case in the corner next to where the speaker grill would be looks it melted a little as well.
Here's a link to my Google Photos folder showing the phone fresh out of the water, then from all angles at home, out of the case before I cleaned it up, it cleaned up, then the case after cleaning.
https://goo.gl/photos/VLcaP28tUWE2gjENA
Enjoy!
its a good history, but the phone wont turn on, it is not possible. in fact, you can make a short circuit when you plug the phone to the electricity and can be harmful for you and your familly.

Missed the part about the weekend. I'll wait to see how it goes. Hopefully, it'll power up and operate. Mostly for the sake of being a bad as$ phone. If not, nothing ventured nothing lost. Lol

I think it's better to put phone in to destilated water and run to specialized service
Whatever happened with this?

How come you got insurance covered for phone which is not india manufactured. I can see carrier logo on back. Would you mind sharing the name of your insurance provider.
Put it in rice bag tightly closed container or bag for 3 -5 days then connect to PC via cable not charger if there is no acid leakage from battery or .It helped me when Samsung service center didn't seal the phone properly after replacing the display .Only my power button was not working because i connected to power source after water went inside . Once it turned on i gave to warranty silently and told them my power button not working then they replaced it too .

Can just imagine that turning up at a service center with a note saying it wont turn on or anything . They might replace it . Lol.
Don't use rice. Rice isn't as good at absorbing water as popular belief leads you to think.
Take out the Sim tray, put the phone on a warm window sill, with the tray pointing down (for water to leak out) and have a fan blowing air on the phone. Leave it there for a few days, or as long as possible. Then plug in to a computer and see what happens.

Actually submerse it in a bowl of as pure isopropyl alcohol as you can find and swish it around to try to get it to force all water out. Isopropyl dries quickly and does not harm electronics or break circuit pathways.
