Unlimited Plan not HSPA+ compatible? - HTC Inspire 4G

I received an email saying that i need to get a 4g/hspa+ plan and looked online at my account, which shows the limited data plans as the 4g/hspa+ and unlimited isn't compatible. It also said i need to upgrade to a 4g/hspa+ sim card, but i am using a iphone 4 micro sim with the adapter to regular sim. My question is, has anyone else got this email and are people getting the 4g/hspa+ speeds without the limited plans? I hope this is just a gimmick to get people to jump plans but i am not going to be a happy camper if this is true, which this so called 4g/hspa+ is only 3g at the end of the day.

Call a rep I had to change from blackberry to 4G and still have unlimited data just call into customer service, they will have to get a manager to verify, and the new sim should come with the phone .

I'm currently on the smartphone unlimited data plan and came from the iphone 4 unlimited plan. The problem is if you look at your account there saying that unlimited plans aren't hspa+ compatible. I did use the sim card the came with my phone, which was just a 3g sim card and then i went back to my micro sim because i like being able to switch phones when i want too. I also went up to the store and the rep told me i need a 4g sim card then went to another store and they told me there is no difference in the sim card. This hole 4g/hspa+ crap is so confusing and miss leading. I love my inspire 4g but att is making my experience and living hell.

The 4G sim card is for lte they are just trying to make a buck. The hspa+ is 3G+ essentially. If you have unlimited data then your fine. As far as I am aware there is no unlimited 4G data plan because its still running off 3G, the only difference in data plans right now besides the tiered options is blackberry data, pda data, and smartphone data.
If you are worried about it, call customer service and have them switch your plan and make sure you keep unlimited. If they say you can't, hang up and call back until you get some one who will.

Thats what i thought about the sim card but i guess i have to wait to see if i get hspa+ with my phone with the unlimited smartphone plan, as there is no 4g/hspa+ unlimited plan only 2gb and 200mb plans. Not going to downgrade for just faster speeds.

Take mudknot's advice and call AT&T customer care. Tell them you are grandfathered into unlimited data and you want to migrate that feature over to the 4G data plan. You won't see an option for unlimited 4G data on the website because AT&T wants as many users as possible on the new tiered data plans.

Yes there is a 4g unlimited plan, only for existing unlimited customers. It only will show up online as unlimited smartphone data. The sim card only is for lte which in not the inspire.

I think the problem is the difference between the iPhone data plan (which utilises visual voicemail) and the android one. Just do what these guys say and call customer assistance and ask them to migrate your unlimited data into an android-capable plan, and they should do so without a hitch.

So are we ok on the "smartphone personal" unlimited plan then? They tried to get me to switch too. I was like Hell no lol.

when i ordered my phone online I had to sign up for the new 2gb data plan.. I used to have the 5gb unlimited plan.. but he computer wouldnt let me leave things be. I know if i wouldve went to best buy i wouldve been able to keep the old plan.. I may call customer support. to see if they can fix it back

they took off my unlimited plan when i switched from my 3gs. but i really dont care, since wifi is where its at. its the only true 4g. (joking btw)

Yup, Correct and I agree...
I have 5 line family plan ALL with the unlimited data grandfathered plan.
I have an Inspire 4G with the unlimited data +4G. Even if you have it added to your account, your account will still say the same thing (unlimited), but you will get 4G unlimited as well.

iPhone4 sim on Inspire 4G - message from AT&T

Been using my iPhone4 sim (with adaptor) on my Inspire 4G since launch day. No problems at all, everything works fine. I'm on the grandfathered unlimited data plan for iPhone.
So just this morning, I get a text message from AT&T...
"AT&T Free Msg: Did you know that an eligible data plan is required for your 4G Smartphone? Pls call 611 to select a plan and establish your data connection today."
Anyone else get this?
This is not related to the tethering warning msg's that some have been getting (I don't tether). Wonder if it's "safe" to keep using my iPhone sim?

Why not just call them up and have them put you on the proper 4G unlimited plan? I had the iphone with the grandfathered unlimited data plan and they initially had no clue what to do. I kept calling back till I found the right person to do it without losing the unl data plan. Just make sure you stress it enough to them that you don't want to lose the 30 dollar unl data.
Here is what you do .. I did the same thing:
1. Head back to an AT&T Local Store
2. Let them know you had iPhone 4 and moved over to Inspire 4G
3. Obtain replacement SIM card for 4G phone (no cost to you)
4. Have them check your Data Plan .. WITH NO CHANGES
I was iPhone 4 until getting the Inspire 4G .. also on the iPhone Unlimited Data .. when I obtained my Inspire 4G (from an AT&T Store) .. they replaced my SIM and changed my Data Plan to Unlimited SmartPhone Personal .. this is the grandfathered version of the iPhone Unlimited .. no difference in cost, NOTHING ELSE CHANGES.
When I changed over to the Inspire, they changed my plan over as well. I mentioned that I would still be going back and forth between my iP4 and the I4G. She told me that I would lose the visual voicemall, but I still kept my IP4 sim card. I just use an adapter to swap between the 2 phones.

I got the same text message and an email. I called ATT and the rep told me I already have the best plan available for my phone (grandfathered unlimited) so no need to change anything. I made sure to ask if I needed a 4G plan for my new 4G phone and the rep said no, the unlimited plan that I have on my account is all I'll need... those messages are just automated messages that are triggered when a new phone is detected on your account. Hopefully the rep knew what they were talking about which is unfortunately hit and miss sometimes
Same here, I just ignore that txt..Keep on.. Every thing is fine....
iPhone 4 to Inspire sim
I got the same message and called 611, they kept me grandfathered in with $30 unlimited plan instead of the 2gig or 4 gig inspire plans. If you don't call they will start emailing you and sending more texts. No big deal though.
It's been 3 weeks and I was still getting these texts regularly so I went ahead and flashed a close to stock inspire rom (di11igaf) and took my phone into the AT&T store to figure it out. I explained my situation and they said my old iPhone was still on my account so they needed to update to my Inspire. They asked to see my phone and they pulled the IMEI off of it and entered it into the system, moved me from an iPhone unlimited to a 4G unlimited plan, and said I'm good to go. They talked like the text messages would have never ended unless I actually came in and got it changed over. I would recommend doing this while they still have an option to change you over to an unlimited 4G plan.
I had no issues at all but I went to a corporate store and did a upgrade so I ran into no issues. Just call em and get a proper sim. Your standard 3g sim is all you need. The new smaller 4g cards are for LTE devices.

We are on the grandfathered unlimited plan. Mother-in-law is on our plan and she had an iPhone. Bought the Motorola Bravo and had to change to another unlimited data plan (just a cosmetic thing in their system). Se decided she did not like the Bravo and we put her back on the unlimited iPhone plan.
All of this was done IN STORE. Just go and they can take care of it and still keep you on the unlimited plan.
I got the same mail, but in my case they said I have the $15 unlimited dumb phone plan. Well I have had that plan on my Tilt, TP2 and now my Inspire. All are smartphones- right?
Well the csr said that was too confusing for him and he was going to leave my plan the way it is. No more pesky mails or msgs.

you are one of the EXTREMELY lucky few that are still on that plan. Fight to keep it as long as possible haha. I have heard of wayyy too many cases of ATT simply canceling that plan and moving those people to a new capped plan.
The way I did it was always be vocal about the only reason I still pay then a bit over $100/mo is my old school and actually unlimited data and I never previously signed a contract or got a discount on my 6 previous phones including 4 HTC devices. Wow it capitalizes HTC for me. Anyway, the inspire came out and my girl bought one and had me do the xda treatment on it. It took me about a month of playing with it to figure out I could get it for $50 on a two year and I spent some minutes explaining to the nice lady at 611 that the internet upgrade was trying to force me into a nasty new data plan that isn't from 2003. She called her supervisor and he said pick data pro and they'd change it back to smartphone personal unlimited instead of my old pda unlimited. I made both of them stay on the phone while the upgrade went through and immediately change my data back before I checked it in my online account management crap. I made them look at it again when the new "4g" sim and inspire showed up during a mutually understood and recorded phone conversation. I still have unlimited data and I've been tethering while out of town and during Comcast outages for almost 8 years now. ATT beats the crap out of every carrier in my area. VZW has crazy coverage with slow evdo rev. A because they bought Alltel (they started here) but I get 3-5.5 mbps just on the device and up to 7ish down while tethering. One of the finer points of Arkansas is that the number of bandwidth-chewing geeks on the ground is quite low in comparison to the genpop so I have bandwidth to burn.
I'm finally getting decent at typing on a phone that isn't an HTC qwerty spider. The desire z's keyboard buttons are too small and close together for my thumbs and I bite my fingernails so I can't use those and the extra 256mb of RAM doesn't hurt.

Yep, did this a couple of months ago. It's just how the provision data (iphone, or smartphone).
This should also be done if coming from a non-HSPA+ compatible phone (that's not an iPhone). Again, you won't lose unlimited data. Just make it clear you want nothing done to your plan that will cause you to lose unlimited data.

Guys.. I work at an AT&T store.. and most of what is said above is nonsense (no offense). You CAN currently get the 4G unlimited data plan if you have the pre-existing $30 unlimited plan.. It is the same cost, but you get the faster speeds. You DO need to change to that plan to get the faster speeds.. and it does make a change to your agreement (you will have a different unlimited data plan). Walking away if you ask if it makes a change when you are there to make a change? does that make sense to ANYONE?
Also, no need to be "vocal" about how you want to keep your unlimited data... Just stating it once politely is enough.. It is just frustrating when people on here give instructions which basically say to treat the ATT employee in a manner less than professional. Trust me, we get yelled enough for "no reason" every day... People do not understand how something works, then blame the ATT employee. Most of us are at the stores to help you, and want to do so if you can treat us with atleast a little respect. Also, SIM cards are NOT just "free" for everyone... Unless you talked to customer service first and they are crediting your account for a free one, SIM cards cost $15 or $25 depending on your location. The cost is not the fault of the employee at the store.
Also, a warning... It looks like the grandfathered unlimited plans will be going away sooner than later... As an employee, I will loose my unlimited data if I go over 4gb in one month, or if I change devices (I might put off getting the HTC Vivid for now because of this).. I will have to pick a 2gb or 4gb plan accordingly (depending on what I want to pay, as I don;t get free service). Anyways, Have a happy holiday season everyone..
^^ I've also heard of customers w/"unlimited" data getting admonished for exceeding 5 GBs in a month, and getting threatened w/throttling for a subsequent "offense". And continued excessive use would result in being moved to a capped plan.

Anyone w/ an Infuse + grandfather data?

My mother got and Infuse yesterday and i was over at her house playing with it with my sim in. after i was done i took my sim out and put it back in my fuze (shudder). this morning just as i was leaving the house for the day i got a text message from AT&T telling me that "An eligible data plan is required for your 4g Smartphone. We have added an appropriate data plan. Learn more at att.com/smartphoneplans."
so i disabled data and when i went into my acct on the web when i got home, sure enough the only data feature options i could choose were the new tiered data plans. i had to put my sim in my old ooooooold tmobile MDA for an hour or so until it updated the imei and then i could go back and choose the unlimited data option.
is this normal? if i upgrade to an infuse will that cancel my grandfather'd status? has anyone else grandfather'd updated and kept their data plan? if so how? and if i upgrade through best buy or amazon at the discounted price will i be allowed to keep it or do i have to go to an att store and pay the full upgrade price?
This has happened to a few people on the forums (lost the unlimited when it switched them to 4g) but it shouldn't. Call 611 or go into a store and they can fix it for you. You can have unlimited 4g with you grandfathered plan its just apparently sometimes putting people back to the 2gb.
I was able to keep my unlimited..

thanks all of you
the issue that occured is that our at&t systems have different classification data plans.
ie: one for blackberries, one for general smartphones (android/palm/symbian/winmo ect), iphone, and hspa+ devices. the fuse is a general classification smartphone so the message was saying that when you put your sim card in the infuse as it is a hspa+ phone, your data might not work correctly, hence the text message to change your data plan. if you go into a cor store, any rep should be able to continue your grandfathered unlimited status.
No issues here, I still have my unlimited plan...

If they try to do that, call customer care, let them know you have grandfathered unlimited data, they will file a case to change it back. They "accidentally" did that when they provisioned our sim cards for 4g when my wife and I got our Inspire's...
Hell yeah if they remove it I woukd transfer my four family plan to Sprint, now sprint has the same customer service as verizon up date according to recent survey.

ok, i have a question for you, i'm planing on getting an infuse on upgrade, selling that and getting a gs2. if i go back to the $30 unlimited plan when i upgrade after getting the gs2 would i be able to switch back to the cheaper unrecognized imei data plan that i'm on now?
if YOU don't choose to change to another plan, you stay grandfathered. I am still unlimited. If you choose to go to another plan because its cheaper and later decide to use tons of data, you cant go back. If your plan was automatically changed, let CS know. they have the ability to override and re-authorize unlimited.
If they switch me to the H+ unlimited from regular old unlimited will I be able to still use my sim in my HD2? Thanks!
Also has anyone bought from Amazon. How did you go about keeping your unlimited? Just sign up for one of the available plans and then call and have it switched back?
Grandafthered plan
I have grandfathered $30 real unlimited on infuse - only thing changed is 4G addition to it. I understand that they need to classify plans somehow but i do not believe that 4G changes anything related to connection speed. I live in Portland,OR area and eventhough ATT coverage is good localy there are still no real 4G speeds. I tried Inspire, Atrix and now Infuse and none of them went over 2.5Mbps download and 0.5Mbps upload -EVER.
All their bogus stories about 4G cards and 4G dataplans are fairytales --- GSM phone needs provisioned (active) SIM Card of any type, proper APN setup, and reciever able to decode given 3G /4G frequency bands. With such combination you can connect to any GSM network (provided roaming is enabled too). So you can switch SIM cards from phone to phone regardless of data plan in their system.
I was landing on PDX airport in 2009 from Frankfurt, had my N95 with Vodafone prepaid SIM in it and as soon as I turned it on, it autoconfigured and locked to Tmobile 3G network as I still had some money on it to use data and calls. I was also using one ATT SIM card with same data plan (switching to and from ) Iphone3Gs, HTC Touch Pro2, Nokia N97 and unlocked Motorola Defy. Never had single issue...
On the other hand, after being AT&T, Cingular, at&t customer for 10+ years, I am starting to wonder is their service generally worth the money I pay every month.
My bill is for 4 phones;
unlimited family text,
1400min,
real unlimited data plan for Infuse,
real unlimited data plan for Iphone,
2 unlimited data for non smartphones for kids ($10 each)
Total: ~$220 every month....
I was recently looking into Virgin Mobile plans and they give $40 unlimited calls, messages and data. For $25 you get unlimited calls, messages and 20 megs of data (for kids...and my kids use barely any data)
Now that would cut my phone bill about ~$100/month ($1200/year)
Problem is that my dear wife would let go of the Iphone only from her dead cold hands...and she is using it like it is Apache server ~ 10Gig/month
I know I am going off topic but regardless grandfathered or not, my data plan on ATT costs only $10 less then all unlimited package on Virgin mobile.
I am aware that they do not have fancy phones as ATT but honestly ATT does not have a near selection of good phones as Verizon or T-mobile...and lesser data speeds too.
Now I wanted some opinions on my thoughts to switch carriers (and just to let you know I never used anything but GSM since i got my first cell phone in 1993 in Hamburg Germany where I am originally from)

At&t 4g vs. 3g and grandfathering in

I upgraded to an Inspire. I had 3g on my account, so I called ATT to get it changed to 4g. The associate I spoke to said he couldn't give me unlimited 4g, even though I was grandfathered in with 3g unlimited by the resolutions department. Is there any real reason to switch to 4g, if it comes at the cost of having a 2gb usage cap?
Guess it all depends on the rep you get, but I can assure you that its still active. Just did it a couple weeks ago. I would recommend going to an att corporate store, not a vendor. Whatever you do, dont ditch the unlimited. Good luck

I do have an H+ icon in the top right corner of the phone's screen. Someone I know used to do the old imei switcharoo to nonsmartphone data plan, but that doesn't work on Android phones like it did on the tilt2 (according to a good friend of mine.) Does Eng Off have anything to do with that? He said it worked fine on the nonsmartphone plan for a couple of days, and then when he downloaded his first app from the market. *****smacked. Got an mms saying he'd been switched to a suitable smartphone data plan. Misses the tilt2 to the tune of about 30 bucks a month.

You might as well get this issue resolved now, because in the future when all the true 4g LTE phones come out, your 3g plan might not get you LTE speeds. Currently a 3g plan is enough to get you "4g" speeds, because AT&T is calling HSPA+ "4g" (my old iPhone 4 is a "3g" phone but I get "4g" HSPA speeds on it). There is no way of knowing if a 3g plan will get you true LTE speeds in the future, and you'll wish you had grandfathered yourself into the unlimited 4G plan now. I would take stickbo's suggestion and go in person to an AT&T store and make them grandfather you into the unlimited 4g plan.
you can keep it if you are grandfathered and have 4g unlimited. i got the text when i got my inspire. called and verified it would remain grandfathered, and it does show unlimited online. i have a premier account, but i doubt it makes a difference
HSPA+ =\= HSPA. Get your account provisioned right, even if you have to call another agent or go to the store to get it done. Remember, carriers can limit which tech you are able to connect to. If you are limited to HSPA only you may never get the max out of this phone, let alone future ones.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Sorry for my ignorance but AFAIK there is no 4G card and/or plan or special provisioning at ATT at current time.
You (we?) should be good with a "3G" SIM to fetch 4G speeds where they are available (roll-out from ATT is rather slow). 4G LTE IS indeed another story.
Regarding grandfathering in, ATT tried the same thing with me and others to "downgrade" the plan (PDA personal 30 bucks a month unlimited data) to 2GB/month. A single call to ATT solved this problem because they have to grandfather you in if you are willing to pay 30 bucks for unlimited instead of 25 for 2 GB capped. With new plans it's a different story, they will be capped to 2 GB unless you do the iPhone 2G trick (search the forum).
Just my $ 0.02
I am on a medianet plan and my phone says I have hspa+. How can I confirm this? Medianet apns have been working fine but when I called about having unsigned apps activated ota they said my 4G might not work so great. Seems ok although hspa+ not 4g or anywhere near it.
I got unlimited 4g when I got my Inspire 1 month ago. I just called ATT support and they verified that you can get unlimited with 4g anywhere in the US. Talk to another agent. Most of them are stupid. When I got my inspire I was told that I couldnt even get 4g without a new simcard lol.

Call them up. Threaten to leave because they wont grandfather you in. I assure you they will. I just switched from a grandfathered unlimited iphone plan that I got grandfathered from a medianet unlimited plan(They grandfathered me from medianet unlimited because i told them the tos doesn't say you have to have unlimited smartphone data to get grandfathered it just says unlimited data. They ended up putting in the unlimited iphone data plan for users that dont have required data plan). I had no issues what so ever if the rep refuses ask to speak with a manager. They can change it.

There is no unlimited 4G as well as there is no true indication of 4G. There is limited or unlimited DATA, period.
Thought this would be clear. The little + doesn't tell you anything beside that you have "at least" a 3G connection and that you're not running on edge!
You either need a good GSM test tool - even this may tell you only UMTS or WCDMA or simply speed test. 3G should be capped at about 3.5 mbps down, 4G/HSPA+ will run between 4 and 8 mbps down, the latter in good areas.

Your only technically right. Try running your service without the "4g" data plan (your data speeds wont change i know i ran the 3g data plan then switched to the "4g" data plan). Att will constantly txt and email about needing the correct data plan and then change it themselves like they do for the iphone. And you may not get grandfathered over. The op is only asking a question about what he is being told by att and also looking for some advice to keep his unlimited data.

That's similar to how my upgrade worked too. Originally an unlimited MediaNet plan (with an Ericsson clamshell), upgraded into an unlimited 3G plan (AT&T Tilt 1), upgraded again into their unlimited "4G*" plan with the Inspire.

you can keep it if you are grandfathered and have 4g unlimited. i got the text when i got my inspire. called and verified it would remain grandfathered, and it does show unlimited online. i have a premier account, but i doubt it makes a difference

Premier account DOES make a difference. I can get any smartphone (exception of iphone) without the otherwise mandatory data plan. And sometimes when I choose early upgrades I get the price between the regular upgrade and regular early upgrade (e.g., instead of paying 399 for Atrix under early upgrade, I got it for 275).

I changed phones (Fuze to Inspire and had PDA unlimited since my Tilt/Kaiser), they tried to pull the 2 gig cap stunt on me - complaint - got unlimited. Never got any emails or other notifications that I require a 4G plan (which IMO doesn't exist anyway) and can get up to 8.5 mbps download in good areas - so I must have INDEED 4G 'cuz 3G wont support these speeds.
it's 3.5 g

Look at my sig photo
I didn't think that the inspire had an lte radio, did I miss something?
As I remember I thought it only had an hspda+ capable of 14. 4 Mb/sec. Am I completely off? Not making a statement truly asking.

The Inspire "4G" does not have an LTE chipset

AT&T speak, if you read carefully, says they are working on providing "4G speed", with essentially some network tricks with 3G technology. That said...I'm happy when I get off my 12 hour shift at 5AM and hit 7.6 down :-=p. Hee hee finally Star Trek (TOS) shyte I grew up watching is possible on my effin phone!

You keep saying the 4g plan doesn't exist, but it does. It doesn't make a difference in speeds, and it might just be a technicality, but there are separate plans. This is how they are worded in my family account under "manage features" (I've got 1 Inspire and 3 iPhones in my family account):
-SmartPhone Personal (Unlimited) <<this is the grandfathered 4g unlimited plan
-DataPro 2GB for 4G Smartphones
-DataPlus 200MB for 4G Smartphones
iPhone plans have a different name:
Data Plan for iPhone (Unlimited)
DataPro 2 GB for iPhone
DataPlus 200 MB for iPhone
There may come a day when having a 4g plan DOES make a difference in your speeds. That is why I was telling the OP to try to grandfather into the unlimited 4g plan NOW, because these unlimited plans are going the way of the dinosaur. Once you lose that grandfathered connection, it is gone forever.

Over data limit every month

I have an HTC Inspire and I have the 2gb plan from AT&T. It seems like every month I go over my data limit when most of the time I either don't have signal or I run my task killer to shut down background data. I live in the country so there's no WiFi that I could ease my usage. I've gotta do something to get unlimited data. I have 2 questions:
1. Will AT&T ever come out with a 4G unlimited data plan? (like maybe after the T-mobile merge)
And 2. Is there any way I can use a loophole to get unlimited data?
2...
Why yes, yes there is.

Come join the club of those who got the unlimited data plan that ATT "no longer sells."
They can have my unlimited data when they pry it fromy cold, dead hands.

The goofy thing is that my mother and brother have unlimited on their iPhones and barely use it :/

1. I doubt they will ever create an brand new official marketed truly unlimited data plan for new or existing customers.
2. I actually bought the truly unlimited data plan back when it existed like 5 years ago, and have never let go of it since, so I'm happily grandfathered in. When I changed from my last 3G phone and switched to the Inspire 4G, they "upgraded" my unlimited 3G data plan to 4G unlimited data plan, same price. So for $40 I get truly unlimited no data cap 4G data and unlimited texts. Oh except it's more like $35 a month for that after my Premier discount. I'm never changing my plan again. I'm keeping my unlimited data. Unless of course they offer to upgrade my 4G unlimited to 5G unlimited in a few years time
EDIT: Oh and I never have an Iphone at any point, ever, nor claimed/told ATT that I had one. All WinMo all the time until this Inspire, with hassle free unlimited the entire time.
Didn't the loophole close at the end of April? I was gonna try it with an iPhone 2g but they said something about iTunes agreement changing to close it up or something like that
Can anybody confirm that trick still working?

1. There is/was... you had to be grandfathered in on an unlimited 3G plan to get unlimited 4G data which basically is nothing special. just uses the same "phone" apn that the iphone data plan uses instead of wap.cingular. The 4G unlimited data plan code is: HSDPPB but good luck getting it added if you don't have unlimited data already.
2. there is the itunes/iphone 2g trick which does work for some people if you start with a new fresh itunes account. i hear if the phone isnt kept active for a month or two they can go and change it manually to a 2gb plan if you switch to a different phone immediately... could be wrong but this is what i have heard.
Can you not set up a wifi router in your home to ease your usage load some?

If you had an Unlimited 2g plan, then you can go to a 3 or 4g smartphone and keep your unlimited data plan with no drama at all....well until August 31st when 2g customers get cancelled.
If you didnt have a 2G unlimited smartphone plan, youre screwed. Buy a router.

I dont know if any info is available on the net.
It may only apply to people who were signed up before the Cingular buyout.

That's another problem, I have dial up at the house so I can't use a wireless router to ease the usage. I'm pretty well s.o.l. on that part
Get your hands on a 1st gen iPhail, hard reset it, put your sim in, sync to iTunes, purchase $20 unlimited data package, wait till your acct show that as your device and plan, go to att store and tell them you'd like to have your unlimited data grandfathered to your Inspire, they'll change it while you wait(about a 5minute process), leave store smiling.
Enjoy unlimited data.
This is what I did and now no more worries of going over. In fact, I was consuming 4-5 gigs a month prior but most was on wifi wherever it was available.
I have unlimited data right now.

Will ATT charge more for data on skyrocket?

I already have the old data plan 15$ unlimited (grandfathered) + unlimited family messaging. If I pop my sim into an ATT skyrocket, will they charge me more for the data plan? I would buy the phone off ebay.
I don't think you can pop your sim card in. Lte sim is different I believe.

its the same kind of sim, just lte enabled. My sim would only get me 3G speeds, just want to know if ATT will charge me more for data.
NO. when you get it. Call them and tell them to put your number on you the LTE Sim Card and then your data plan will just transfer. if you have the $30 unlimited grandfathered, it'll carry over. Same price as before. 2GB is still $25
I know it's the same type lol. Just saying you wont get lte without contacting at&t. But no, you shouldn't get charged more or lose you grandfathered plan. But not 100% sure.

That sounds like the MediaNET plan, which AT&T won't grandfather you in unlimited if it is.
If it's from the iPhone 2G or 3G, or you had unlimited data on a smartphone before AT&T got rid of it, they'll put you on LTE unlimited.
I have my phone on an ex-girlfriend's plan. We both have unlimited AT&T data but different plans because she uses an iPhone. She initiated the process for me to take over my piece of the account. Will my unlimited data stay with me if I complete the process?

The only way you will find out is go to a store or call.
If you have the medianet data package tell them to show you where in the terms of service it says they can't grandfather you into unlimited smartphone data. If the can't show you then it just says they will grandfather unlimited data. Push the issue and you'll get it. I know I did it. Went from iPhone unlimited to medianet and then upgraded to an android phone. Used the argument above and I'm on unlimited data again.
