So I'm one of the lucky ones who live in San Antonio and will be getting the true ATT 4G upgrade. Just wondering if the Inspire will be supported.

Everything I have read online has said that the Inspire is NOT compatible with LTE.......yet I have asked 3 different AT&T reps in 3 different AT&T stores, and every one of them guaranteed me that it WILL be LTE compatible......
Based on all the info online I assume they are wrong....

Duh! I would tell you anything to buy something. Problem with you consumers. You have the internet at your finger tips, and are to dumb to do some research before you buy.
It doesn't have an lte radio, nor the software. A lot (not all) att reps have no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah I knew the answer before I asked...just wanted to see what kind of response I would get....I even tried to push the issue...asking if they were positive and so on. In one case I got the manager involved, and I believe his exact words were "sir I can assure you, this phone is compatible with all of AT&T's future 4g networks"
I wonder if they actually believe that, or if corporate simply tell them to lie there a$$'s off......!
Well if you go to att.com they list it as a lte upgradable phone

Two things ...
1) ATT is lying - well sort of. They can get away with it because their definition of 4G is very broad. When they say LTE they actually mean HSDPA.
2) The folks in the store are indoctrinated by the company so they believe the Inspire is LTE as well.
I'd love to be proven wrong but unfortunately the Inspire is H+ only (HSDPA).

It doesn't take a genius to figure out:
1: LTE tech is still brand new, and very few select phones have the hardware to support it. (All verizon phones)
2: The Inspire 4G is a Desire HD without an FFC. The Desire HD does not have support for LTE, therefor, we can assume this as well on the inspire 4G
When AT&T talk about 4G, they make sure they include an asterisk* and the details will follow in the tiny text. We get 4G like speeds assuming they complete the backhaul, but no LTE. We'd need hardware for that.

What part of it not having an lte radio is so hard to understand...it just doeant have one. Look at the specs on htc no where on that page does it say lte, then look at the thunderbolt oh wow under specs it lists lte.... What were you saying about us knowing more then developers? Apparently htc dosent even know their phone is lte capable. Really........

Pretty sure its impossible. Our snapdragon chips don't have the capability to support true lte. I'm pretty sure the thunderbolts SoC is a little bit different(lte support)

Well, seeing that Geek Squad told my buddy that Bittorrent caused the demise of his <6 month old hard drive in his PC, I'm not sure how much I'll trust BestBuy's "official" info. kthxbai

The Desire HD does not have a front facing camera. The Inspire and DHD are almost exact clones. The only thing different is the logo on the back.

Actually, this is the official ATT page for the Inspire 4g.

If you scroll near the very bottom, Technical Specifications section, lower left corner it says, "4G* - HSPA+/LTE: HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul." No where does it say it is LTE compatible. Also, that little asterisk leads you to this, like someone mentioned earlier, "*4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. Available in limited areas. Availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment. Requires 4G device and compatible data plan. Learn more at att.com/network."
Would be nice if that's possible, but it's not with this phone. But I'll have to wait 2 more years anyways to be able to upgrade again, haha.

I make a habit of changing my phone every 2 years as a rule. By then maybe AT&T may have their LTE in par with Verizon. It really doesn't matter with my paltry 200mb account anyway, whether I use it with 1 to 2 megabit at a time or 9 to10 megabit at a time.
I'm planning on getting the bell 4g sensation and then unlocking it. I'm on rogers so i know the 2g will work, but will 3g work on Rogers if the radio is for bell 4g?
anyone have an answer for this?

if it is CDMA then its useless to rogers anyways. I had wondered about the sim part but am assuming that it should be since Telstra is getting the same model in about a week on the 12th, right?
It will use a sim card, it is not a cdma version nor do I think HTC has even made one.
heres hoping, bell really needs a nice phone that isnt what everyone else is providing (iphone/bb)
...mind you i think bell should burn in the depths of hell, but they no longer steal my money, so its a moot point

Where'd you grab your tmobile sensation you cross boarder or craigslist and how much? i'm think of grabbing one for wind ..i have the hd2 right now

got it off craigslist, it was the "Sensation 4G starters kit" from a TMO store in NYC, $700 on US launch date
i also came from an HD2, and this was the ONLY HTC fone i would have considerd for the upgrade.
i miss my HD2
try not to sell yours, keep if for messing with roms, and for games and media
i plan on getting another one soon anyway, i love that fone

cause there are no operator where i live that support the 1900 Band..
I called the Shop they said they have a Captivate and a Samsung Focus and its cheaper and they will refunfd the extra
sooooo I love the Inspire they way it feels and looks...and Sense of-course
but with only 2G speeds, is it really worth to keep it.
or the practical solution is to Return it and Get a Captivate or a Focus??
Please lend me your thoughts to help me decide

You will still only get 2g with the other phones as they are both also att phones. So it will be the lesser of the 2 evils
Actually Captivate supports Tri-band 3G so 2100 is a go with that phone...
The Inpire is a Sexy phone but will it be practical to use with Emails and Facebook with just 2G speeds??
im Just asking hee cause idont wanna make the mistake of giving this phone away with out properly thinkin...
As I say buy on your network unless you're prepared to sacrifice certain things ex 3g, hspa and so on

I have WIFI @ home but mostly i wont get access to Wifi..work place have strict WIFI acess policy
will it be hard to use Exchnage mail and Gmail.. i know it will be slow but just asking incase if some one has used it or have knowledge of it..
and FB sync and stuff I can do them at home but Emails are a must have for the road
If they could get you the Desire HD then you would technically have an inspire with the 2100 band.

If those other phones support your service, then go ahead and trade out. Imo I use wifi at home and data else where. Seriously though, if you are on T-Mobile, you should be looking for a phone that works on their bands. As far as a trade, I don't know what you could expect to get for an Inspire right now.
I know on cdma theres an app to force 3G on roam and it works pretty good. And there are tweaks for unlocked phones on other networks to force 3G. Is this not possible for GSM?

Roaming has NOTHING to do with it. T-mobile has it's own distinct 3G data bands that are different from the rest of the world. If you want 3G on T-mobile, get a T-mobile branded phone. Go to the T-mobile link I gave you and look at the phones and their reviews. And this topic has nothing to do with the Inspire let alone the development of it.

We arent your financial advisers haha. best thing wouldl be go to tmobile and find a phone that works on their network. google gsm arena, that will get u a site that lists phone specs and you can compare them. research = key.

HTC disabled aws support so no. But it looks like tmobile is rolling out iphone compatible hspa bands in some of their markets.
There are some people that have speculated (maybe just hopeful optimism) that hardware support for AWS is there, just not enabled in software, and that some hack such as a custom radio can enable it. Search around, and you will find a thread about this.
But presently, no, there is no way to get 3G/4G service on T-Mobile with this phone.

I remember reading it would take them until the end of next year to get half of their network flipped over.
Oh wow that's long haha think there will be any work arounds cause I know there was something like this for the galaxy note where it would work on tmobile 4g with a custom root and Rom

The Galaxy Note works because you can flash the radio for the T-Mobile Galaxy SII because they were the same SoC. It could be possible by flashing a radio from the One S but you can't flash radios without S-Off.

Actually, you can flash radios on the one x without s-off. We've been doing it for a couple weeks if you check out the radio thread in the dev section.
As to flashing a one s radio...good luck?
Yea we can flash radios with the hox as long as you have a unlocked bootloader

Went to tmobile today talked to the manager!! Apparently tmobiles is gonna start switching there Bands so it will be compatible for the HTC one x on 4g tmobile from him he said around September or October!!!

I flashed the One S radio, got higher ping at best, but obviously as said before, no 3g/4g.
