Seems like it's not targeted towards North America and with good reason. There's no reason why someone would get this phone over waiting for the Galaxy S II which will be released very shortly. It seems like Samsung is just trying to give their original Galaxy S a final push before it's predecessor arrives.

By the specs it looks like Samsung may actually be listening to some complaints about the phone.............
more battery, and most of use know how much of a difference overclocking these phones makes!
I wonder if they fixed the gps?

I think you mean successor, the i9000 would be the predecessor of the upcoming galaxyS II.

G2x or Galaxy S II

My contract with t-mobile has been up for two months now. I was waiting for the Galaxy S II to come out in the US, but it has been postponed. Would you recommend getting the G2x now or waiting for the galaxy s II?
My main concerns are:
-less development support for the G2x
-LG made the G2X
What are you opinions? thanks.

1. Less development? Cyanogen just bought a G2x.....
2. LG makes good hardware. They just suck at software. For a solution to that, see #1.
G2x has a lot of support, cyanogen himself is working on cyanogenmod for the g2x, is just a matter of choice, what you like the most, i like my g2x and don't have any problem with it.

G2x among the best
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I actually think the G2x will have way MORE development support than the Galaxy S II. Do we even know yet for sure that the GSII won't be locked down in some way? G2x is easily rootable and comes with vanilla Android, along with its very high end hardware specs. This is a developer's dream phone.
oooh daaaamn nice scores !!!
plus we got G2X ! it's better than 2X ! (better benchmarks scores, we got P999 !!!!!)
This is IMPORTANT to bear in mind about the Galaxy S II:
The international version might run the lightning-fast in-house Exynos CPU, which seems a bit faster than the Tegra 2. However, the US version of the GSII might very well have the same CPU the G2x has, the Tegra 2. Google it.
That said, the GS2 will likely have similar hardware specs, probably a little more RAM, and a LOT more crapware piled on top.

Not to mention Samsung's iPhone knockoff UI. I'll pass.
I do wish I could get that RAM on my G2x
I love my GTX
But i think Galaxy II maybe gonna win ! because ram !
BUT ! BUT !!!
WHO CAN BE MORE OVERCLOCK !!!!! looool
TEGRA 2 OR Exynos???- THIS IS THE QUESTION !
IM BELIEVE TO NVIDIA !
IS THE SGS II EVEN GOING TO TMOBILE FOR SURE?!!?!?!?!?!?!
sorry for caps but i thought it was only confirmed going to sprint....!?!
that was like 2 weeks ago tho

So, since this is basically a larger, overclocked Captivate with a better camera, do you guys think it'd be possible to port something from it?
I probably am completely off the mark here, but if they improved the GPS software, it could be useful.

I'm wondering the same thing. It's confusing where this device will be supported (hopefully a mod can post a thread for the device if necessary).
Possibly, but man 200 is too much for that phone. Its only marginally better than the Captivate. They should be introducing the Galaxy S2. I would hold out for that rather then jump on this phone. This phone will phase out our beloved Captivate.
Infuse and Galaxy S II
Maybe a dumb question. Aren't the Infuse and the Galaxy S II the same phone?

No. The infuse is a phone being released may 15th sporting a 1200mhz processor (dunno if its just an oc version of ours), a ff camera, a 8mp back camera and a larger/nicer/sharper screen.
The galaxy s2 is a dual core beast that just dropped in europe and has been submitted to the fcc with att bands, so it'll be out by the end of this year/early next

Same processor, according to the specs on GSMArena. Not that much improvement over the Cappy.
Another thing I'm wondering is regarding the battery life of this phone. I suppose they'll place a larger battery but an extra 1/2 inch of screen is a lot.

well the drawback of the cappy is the lack of a camera flash. though the cammera does way better in low light than many phones out there, a flash is nice for the close range shots in near total darkness. like in a club or something. also gsm arena and others are frequently wrong. one of those sites was saying that the i9010 armani had a front facing camera, they basically borrowed the spec sheet from the i9000 assuming it was the same in but in a captivate form factor. right now all the sites are woring off rumors and assuptions. not official specifications
the best assumption is that the processor is at minimum the same series because the orrigonal ad from janurary has the word hummingbird in it. but that doesnt mean the same part number or specifications or that the add from janurary even reflects the actual features. at that time the form of the phone wasnt even final, the battery door hadn't been finalized. then the back of the phone was smooth and now it is textured and looks like the sgs2 but bigger. it is posible specs have changed and maybe why the samsung site and att use the words "powerful 1.2 ghz application processor" without a name or series or description beyond that.
there are also alternatives to the galaxy s coming out with the qualcom scorpion/snapdragon chips clocked at 1.4 ghz(they need to be that fast to get the 3d graphics up to par with our chip because the adreno 205 is not quite as fast as the powervr sgx540 wth open gl). these phones will have 1080p recording and playback, similar or marginally faster 3d graphics and way faster cpu. there will be the galaxy s plus and the galaxy s 2 mini running on this chip (supposedly) so there is even a chance that the infuse will have a qualcom chip of some kind. it should get announces very soon officially. a rumor was there is a conference in nyc with samsung and att today presumably to unveil it with updated/officail specs

What are the odds that we'll be able to port the infuse modem over to the captivate and get 21Mbps download speeds?
This and the SGS2 could only mean one thing. Lots of users hopefully trading in their Captivates which can be picked up off ebay for cheap .

I doubt its the same modem hardware. I'll be happy to be proven wrong though.
there was new modem hardware in th egalaxy s 4g so id say there is a slim chance of that.
AT&T to allow third-party apps on Infuse! Changing policy on future phones as well?

im gonna go see if i can pre order one today. the phone was announced for the 15th so we'll see.
i can always return it for another captivate. i may regret screwing myself out of a sgs2 but i dont think there is much on that phone i will need to have. i guess i could buy a sgs2 outright if i really get an itch for it. if i get one id rather have the international model anyway.

But i have afew questions i was hoping you great ppl at XDA can answer!
Does the infuse have a 1.2GHz Hummingbird processors or a 1.2GHz dual core, ARM Cortex A9 processor?
is the samsung infuse 4g the galaxy s 2? (the of the captivate?), and if its not is it possible At&t will gain rights to the galaxy s 2?
would it be wise to wait and see?
lol thanks for your time i would like to hear any advice you have 2 offer thanks!

Hey!
The Infuse isn't the SGS2. AT&T are getting the Galaxy S 2, although I'm not sure when. The UK version of the SGS2 will work on AT&T I believe.
if you like a big screen, you'll like the Infuse. It's a good, capable handset, and shares the camera with the SGS2 (it's very good). It has a single core 1.2GHz Hummingbird inside, but try not to get caught up with the number of cores yet, as it's not completely important.
It's a big handset, but not quite uncomfortably big. If you like bright, contrasty colours you'll enjoy the Infuse a lot. While I had it I found it very enjoyable, I'm just not a big fan of Samsung's devices.
Would love to hear what you decide to do, keep me posted!
Good luck!

[Q] Galaxy Nexus or S II Skyrocket or anythign else?

Is the S2 Skyrocket coming to the UK does anyone know? I cant find much on the itnernet other than its from AT&T which is american.
Im debating if I should cancle the Galaxy Nexus order and get the S2 Skyrocket if its coming.
If its not, then is there anything that rivals the Nexus in the UK thats coming in the next few weeks or already out?
Reading coments in this forum are starting to put me off the Nexus.

Yes sorry. Its 4.5" vs 4.3". I forgot that AT&T and the International versions are 4.3" because the Sprint and T-mobile versions are 4.5".
One more thing on the processor is that it is more than likely clocked at 1.5ghz to make up for the fact that its not Exynos. Its probably about the same speed overall as the 1.2ghz Exynos in the original SGSII.

Purely on the new screen resolution I would go for the Nexus as WVGA will soon be outdated.

The only thing thats putting me off is people saying its got outdated hardware like teh GPU ect.
For almost £150 cheaper is the S2 not better as I can have it now, its going to get android 4, screen isnt far behind but then it excels on graphics, cpu and micro sd. ?
Is the Rogers Wireless LTE the same as the AT&T?

+1 Wait for the Nexus Prime better screen resolution Depending on your SGS2 variety it goes from 208ppi-256ppi vs the Nexus 316ppi that in itself makes me wait. Unless your gaming not sure any additional value the quad core provides.

Yup and the Vivid is the Raider... "America, what works for the world doesn't work for us"- Motto of american cell phone companies when asked on why they have such weird names
.

Galaxy S III VS Galaxy Note?

Is there really any competition with these phones or does one blow away the other hands down?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Well since we have no idea what the official specs of the SGS3 are we can't really say. All we have is rumors, but some of the thing we can be fairly certain about are the exynos quad processor, a 720p screen, an 8-10MP camera, and a screen size ranging from 4.5-4.8". The main difference will be the processor and the screen size. If you want a hybrid phone/tablet the note will be best, if you are looking for pure performance then the S3 will give you the best results. You can't say one will blow the other one out of the water without solid spec sheets and an idea of what you want in the phone.
I am excited for Thursday. I hope that we don't only hear about the SGS3, but maybe some intel on when the TMobile version of the Note will be released.
I am going for the Note. Buying an international version is not an option for me financially, so it rules out these quad-core processors, which are probably not needed right now anyway.
I am still using a TMobile G2, and it does everything I need it to do. It only has 1 core I am sure at like 800 mhz, though I am overclocking it right now due to the fact that it makes it easier to run. Either way, that processor can't be as nice a the Galaxy Note's dual-core 1.5 ghz processor.
Quad cores are just being used in desktop computers really, so it's no surprise that you shouldn't really NEED it for a phone. I don't know the official technicalities to backup my statement, but it seems common sense.
I will look forward to having the GNote specific applications, S pen, and screen real estate. Can't wait!
S3. Only reason to get Note over GS2 is screen/pen. Not worth it imo.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Not a fair competition at all. S3 should be compared to phones of the same calibre, like the HTC One X.
im sure someone will do a competition of these two phones. Even whitout the S3 full specs we all know who will win.
Quadcore is more than necessary for me
One phone!
HTC Evo Lte dual core s4 which is really fast.. It beats tegra 3 in some tests.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
i think the SG S3 will be the same as the Note ( pen included ) but with a 4.6 screen
Each have their pluses and minuses. The GS3 will have the latest and greatest hardware and ICS out if the box, but the Note will have the bigger screen and S-Pen.
But seriously you're considering a phone already 6 months old vs a phone that will just be announced tomorrow. I love my Note and it has worked flawlessly for me, but I know after tomorrow it won't be the best hardware wise compared to the GS3. But that doesn't mean the Note is a slouch at all. The good thing though is I have my work phone with Sprint and my upgrade is June 30, so I may pick up the GS3, so best of both worlds!

IiI can relate to the question I have a gsii and I really lobe the note. I will wait to deer what the new galaxy offers this weekend. I live near the brand new Samsung shop in Westfield next to the Olympic site and they reckon that the should have demo models this Saturday following the event tonight.
I only wish there were a gnote2 being announced. I love the idea of stylus
and big screen.
I have high expectations for GS3. Let's see what they have to offer for us today.
Anyway, I like my GS2 better than Galaxy Note already, so it seams clear to me that GS3 will also be better.
hummm, i like Galaxy S III better.
How do you like HUA WEI Ascend P1
BTW, I'm still waiting for media pad 10 fhd of HUA WEI
There will be quite a big difference according to the specs!
Well we will see at 7pm today
The SGS3 will be more popular than the Note, because the SGS3 is the direct concurrention of the HTC One X, iPhone etcetera.
If a phone gets really popular, you get extra things from the producer, like firmware upgrades etcetera.
Pick SGS3 after 7pm.
PS it is being expected the SGS3 will arive at the stores in approx 7 days
hahaha note vs a quadcore baby doesnt stand a chance find out today at 7:00pm GMT London time
according to leaked specs the s3 will have a 12mp camera a 4412 quadcore processor clocked at 1.5ghz
a mali 400(same as in the s2 just clocked much higher)
a 4.8 inch 720p HD regular RGB matrix not pentile
wireless charging (big maybe wuold be cool but unlikely)
