[Q] Cleaning the gtab screen - G Tablet General

Sorry if this has been answered before. I just received my gtab and am playing with the stock rom. The fingerprints on the screen are driving me up a wall. I have ordered a screen protector but want to clean the screen well before installing. Is there anything that can be safely used to clean the gtab screen before intallation.

Use a glasses microfiber cloth

Do at least 3 layers. Screen will also be more responsive. Buy the classic bottle about 4 bucks.

Or go to Office Depot and get some activa screen cleaning wipes no alcohol for LCD, CRT, plasma and eyewear. What bothers me more than fingerprints is germs. Glad I can see the fingerprints so I know there is screen build up and it needs to be cleaned.

[Q] Smudge/stain/spot on the screen

I have the Captivate for almost 2 months, but I think this issue is valid for all Galaxy S phones.
Some weeks ago it appeared a stain/smudge on the middle of the screen that can be easily seen with a light color background. Also, I noticed that its seen even with the phone turned off. See both photos attached.
I use invisibleSHIELD. Since the stain is noticed even with the screen turned off, I'm wondering if it may come from the protector instead of the screen itself.
It would be easy if I removed the protector, but if I do so, I'll loose it.
Has somebody had that problem?
May it come from the screen protector?
Thanks
I would imagine that it's the screen protector and the actual phone screen. Just take the screen protector off.
I don't have this problem but you can remove the screen protector and reapply it easily. Just use tape to lift it off the glass and rinse in a bowl of warm water with a drop of dish soap to clean and reapply. I've done this to my screen protector 5 or 6 times for various reasons.
yes my friend this is caused by the screen protector. mine had the same issue. apperantly its from using the squeegy tooo hard!
Could be your LCD Has a burned in Image
If you remove your screen protector and still notice the screen smudge try tilting the phone slightly to get a good angle and try o see if the smudge is internal, if it is I would say its a bleeding LCD, I had this issue with a HTC tilt at&t sent me and they sent me a brand new one free of charge.

It was applied by a authorized ZAGG reseller. I watched and he didn't use it too hard. Any way, I'll remove it.
You had this problem with a invisibleSHIELD by ZAGG protector too or other?

When you had this problem with HTC, were you still able to see the smudge?
What kind of case is that? It looks very slim and pretty cool!

It should be covered under warranty still. Their site offers a 1 year warranty so you should be able to take it back to the seller and get a new one installed free
Its the case from at&t, its like a silicon plastic thing. Lol. I got it too.

I have this same issue with my HTC Magic, that has a screen protector on it. There is a similar mark, smudge on my screen, as a result of a particularly large raindrop hitting my phone. Based on this thread, I can breath a sigh of relief that it didn't damage the screen!

The tilt is a whole different beast... the Samsung is a capacitive touch screen while the tilts were pressure touch...

Funny smudge on screen?

I used my Nexus S without a screen protector, and there was one day when I was using the phone heavily, this part of the screen felt a little rough to the touch when I was swiping it.
Now when I look at the screen I see these faint track marks on the screen that aren't scratches, but it's like something smudged the screen. I have wiped it with microfibre cloth (My Oakleys pouch) but I can't remove this smudge.
It's barely visible when the screen is on but you can see it if the screen is off.
Does anybody else have this problem? Is it a scratch or can I wash this off somehow?
I have similar spots... it's most likely the oleophobic coating wore off in that area. Not sure how it happens, but it seems to be ****ty coating.

I also have one such small spot that is only visible when the screen is off, and only visible at a certain angle with a lot of light. It's been there since I got the phone. It actually looks like it's under the glass, but I can't tell for sure. I can't feel it. I've been keeping an eye on it and I'll utilize Best Buy's protection plan if it gets worse. Im glad I'm not the only one, but this is a little disappointing.
It's problably the oleophobic coating like others said. I have the same thing on mine, and have been thinking of exchanging it because of it. But I think I might as well keep it, as this phone has no other problems, and I'm sure it will probably wear off any phone I get with due time.
Take a paper towel and lightly go over that area. I bet it comes clean so you can't see it anymore until you wipe your oily fingers in that spot again. It seems oils like to get stuck in those spots unless you clean it with something that absorbs oils, and isn't reused over and over.
Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I am hesitant to do a return as my phone works great with none of the issues faced by others.
I'll try cleaning it as suggested. Thanks!

I had the smudges that Kayatoast talked about. I just wiped it off with a paper towel and it disappeared. I guess we must clean it with something that absorbs oil.
My smudges probably came from the hand lotion...
I've also decided not to return mine because I don't want to get a replacement phone with a worse problem.
As for wiping it off, this may work for others in some situations, but the spot on mine is definitely a blemish/defect. Cleaning it has zero effect.
I used iklear to clean the screen then wiped it down with a microfibre cloth. That took care of the smudge. Then I slapped a screen protector on it and that took care of the smudge..now to get rid of those air bubbles..lol.
I recommend this brand: http://www.protectionfilms24.com/pr...geraeteklasse=7&marke=Samsung&modell=4603&go=
Arrived in 2 days, made by 3M and doesn't affect my screen clarity at all.
I just realized the same type of smudge on mine today. It's not on top of the screen, but seems like it's under it. Like others, I didn't want to exchange it because everything else works fine plus I'm out of my 30 day period with no exchange.
If I remember, I'm probably going to do a warranty exchange before it ends.
When I was cleaning my screen to put on my cheap eBay screen protector, I noticed the same smudge in the middle of my screen. No amount of cleaning removed it completely. On went the screen protector, and "Voila", smudge disappeared .
BTW, the eBay screen protector is very close to screen feel as the naked screen and is completely clear. Free with the $3.99 shipped silicone case... gotta love eBay!!!

You know, I thought this was a joke until I got the cheap screen protectors that came with the S gel case. Yeah, it disappears. Weird since it looked like the smudge was under the screen.
Phew im glad im not the only one, the smudge is barely noticeable except under light and while the screen is off. Going to try to clean it.
Is the smudge you guys are talking about, blue by chance? I have a slight blue streak underneath my screen since it was purchased. To best describe it, it looks like a shiney blue streak from cleaning with windex that never dries.

Special screen

Does anyone know if this is a special screen? i know it's gorilla glass but it seems to clean easier than the G2 screen. I could wipe my G2 screen for five minutes and still have finger oils on the screen. this one i wipe the screen once with my shirt and its clean?

This screen looks thick with glass and a smooth screen. Try to press on it.

I've been wondering about this too. I'm coming from a Droid 1 (also Gorilla Glass) that is the only piece of personal electronics that I have ever Windexed. The LG seems to be staying nice and shiny with minimal upkeep.
do you have the factory installed screen protector? mine is a smear magnet. thinking about replacing it. either that or i'm just really oily.
I did have teh factory screen protector on but it was starting to peel off on its own so i just removed it. And since then the screen has remained clean with a few smudges that get removed with a single wipe.

The factory screen protector is probably the best I've ever seen compared to any other phone's. However, it's still a cheap screen protector compared to after market products. Definitely upgrade
I noticed this as well. Had the phone a few days and haven't had to wipe the screen once. At the end of a day my nexus s screen looked like I ate a box of Popeyes chicken on it.

Haven't had to wipe my screen once. I haven't thought about it but now that you mention it....Damn, I usually have to wipe my screen down twice a day. I also love how they beveled the glass. It's like your fingers just slide right off when swiping. I find myself just sliding my finger over the bevel because it feels so nice.
I agree, I really enjoy this screen too

good, i thought i was the only oily one out here. before i even got the phone, i ordered a 2 pack of anti-smudge screen protectors.....tmo branded lol. ugh
they're still in the pack because i'm sure they're the same as the one on my phone now.
actually, i just opened them now. they only cover the screen, not the capacitive buttons or the top around the camera. the factory one is better in size, so i'll keep that for now.
Gotta say the same as my vibrant. Its the gorilla glass.

My screen also has no smudges and i havent wiped it once. my nexus one was awfully smudgy on a daily basis.
It's really smooth
There's a big whitepaper about the coating they put on the gorilla glass to make it easier to clean, it's on the corning website, google for it!
Going "naked"...
Wish me luck! I have never had a phone that didn't scratch.
probably some oleophobic type
Play some Fruit Ninja and you will have a clean screen hahaha
I was looking at cornings website and it said that mt4g and HD7 were made with gorilla glass
neither one of those screens felt like this one
and
they both scratched pretty easy
smh

Help! Super Greasy Screen

I recently picked up a certified like new S3 from Verizon. What I notice is that the screen greases up like mad EVEN after wiping it down with a microfiber cloth...
It greases up way too easily. My previous phone (GNex) can be wiped down with my sweater with no problem. But this particular phone can only be cleaned with a microfiber cloth... and it really takes some work to get at it.
Has the oleophobic coating worn off? Should I ask them to send a replacement? The grease gets so bad that I initially thought they were scratches (since it wasn't coming off..). Thoughts?

I would get a refurb if possible man, I don't have this issue at all, my screen is fresh
I didn't have this problem until I removed a screen protector I got free with the UAG case. Now, I'm in the same boat. I can't keep the screen clean no matter what I do.
Currently not being productive on my S3.
You could wash your hands for once.
Haha Im playing.
But I suggest getting it wiped and putting a screen protector on it.
If the coating on the screen were to be SOME HOW wiped off, you would notice the screen becoming susceptible to scratches.
sent from that young CLEAN Galaxy.
I have no problem with mine and I have no screen protector. Actually on any phone I have never used a screen protector and haven't had an issue. But I wipe mine down 100 times a day with a micro fiber cloth, plus I wash my hands a lot all day long lol.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
No issues here.
No screen protector.
I do notice that if I eat spare ribs and use my phone, the screen gets all greased up. Haven't figured that one out yet though
Just play'n

Question Inner Screen Collecting Dust

Hi all,
Do you all find that the inner screen seems to collect alot of dust? Is it got to do with the screen protector?
Any recommendations on inner screen protector that does not collect dust as much as the factory pasted one?
Thanks all.
Yes i have the same problem. It collects dust and fingerprints. Hopefully is very bright and it doesn't bother me too much when screen is on.
Recommend screen protector not to buy if it looks like this image on AliExpress because they're all slightly too big so you'll have an air bubble at the edge
What I do recommend after buying 20 inner screen protectors is that it fits perfectly with a cut out. I almost gave up because of the lame advertisement photo. The air bubble will go away in a few days usually you'll see within 24 hours also that weird line will also disappear. The other one I bought the line never disappear here is the link https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256...624!rec&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US
Also does leave dust but very slightly hope this helps. Going back to sleep

Hi!
Great recommendation....
Did you remove the original film protectors from both internal and external screens before installing this?
Yes but the factory screen protector is more thick and sticky
