all the pics i take in portrait only show up in landscape and photos i take in landscape come out upside down in portrait....
and if i take a pic w/ the phone pointed down more than halfway toward the ground the pix come out UPSIDE DOWN!!!!
anybody else have this problem. anybody know what can cause AND fix this???
Where are they rotated?
Often this kind of problem is because the viewing/processing application doesn't properly support the EXIF "orientation" tag, which "tells" the app which way is up.
Here's one overview: http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/exif-orientation.html
they are rotated in gallery and when i upload the pictures to facebook and what not.

If by "gallery" you mean the built-in app, it sounds like you may have a defect. I just tried mine rotating to all four forward-facing orientations and, while the immediate post-shot preview was not always "right," when I went into the stock Gallery app, they were all shown with the bottom of the photo down.

i m holding my phone 90% of the time vertivally. i would love to take pix while riding my bike for an example and quickly use my camera with only one hand
is it possible (or theres an app for that) set the camera to take landscape snapshots in portrait mode? could apply to video cam too.
I have not seen an app for that. It's a good idea. would also be nice if when in camera mode the power button became the shutter button.
I'm thinking this might be a hardware limitation.
I don't understand what you're asking.
Whether it's landscape or portrait doesn't change the actual picture being taken... just how it's displayed in the gallery.
And the gallery can rotate pictures for you.
Otherwise you're asking for something crazy like a rotating lens.
Sent from my Captivate.
He's saying he wants to take a landscape picture when holding the phone like your taking a portrait. Not the same as taking a picture in portrait then flipping it sideways, because that rotates the subject. I've also wished I could do this especially when taking a video (hold and shoot like a flip in one hand).

can the image that the lens is seeing in landscape mode be translated in the same format when your holding the device vertically to take a picture, leaving some empty space in the bottom part, for the settings and shutter button?
like the videos playing in the new youtube app when holding the device vertically.
so when youre holding the phone vertically you have 2 format options to take pictures with: portrait or landscape
i miss my blackberry b/c it allowed me to take landscape/portrait pictures with one hand.
i wish i knew coding i'll be working on that instead of asking about it or probably someone after reading this will!
Vignette.....works perfectly for what you are after and better quality pics as well

I notice full 2560 width images render very slow on the 12.2 in the gallery app.
They 1st appear at a very low resolution then slowly start sharpening.
Is this a 12.2 issue , gallery issue ? Any image viewer apps that show images instantly in full Res?
Here's a link to some 2560 width test images if you want to save and check. ..

http://members.shaw.ca/JVPhoto/TestImages/2560x1600/2560RGBWhitecrop.png
Both test images show instantaneously in Galley on my Note Pro. (Ditto other high res images I'm using as desktops).
I would try clearing the cache in the gallery app. Also, are you loading images from an SD card or internal memory?
Otherwise I would recommend QuickPic. The first thing I do with any device is replace gallery with QP. Its much better. (Also I hate that gallery wants to display every random image on the device in its own directory, so its always a big mess, whereas with QuickPic you can easily exclude entire directory paths and only see relevant media directories.) Plus in general, its faster.
I notice rendering taking place when viewing my high resolution pictures such as those taken by my dslr. The image pops up instantaneously but sharpens gradually from top to bottom, left to right.

Same result with quick pic.
Took a screen shot with home+power , image renders very slow as muzzy996 mentions in both gallery and Quick pic?
Hmmm...
Yeah I see it with screencaps, same as described. Now I notice it on other photos as well, but less extreme and faster to fully render. I haven't tried DSLR photos yet.
I notice the same effect on my Note 3, but I have to look close to really notice it.
Went to a local store tried taking / viewing Home+Power screen shots on all current Samsung tablet models.
All show the same very slow rendering of images. That was the Note 12.2, Note 2014 10.1, TabPro 8.4 and 10.1.
Tried the same on an Asus tablet and iPad air both render images instantly.
It's not just the gallery app, as photos and even quickpic show the same lag .
Only workaround I found is to view images in a browser, file:///storage/emulated/0/dcim/
I'm surprised this is not a widely mentioned concern?
My gallery renders images (internal memory and SD card) incredibly slowly as well. The interface also becomes unresponsive. I hope they have a software update in the works. This shouldn't be the case with a $750 tablet.
I'm not holding my breath for a software fix for this. Even the gallery app on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 running ICS (Android 4.0.4) has the same issue.

Just found an app that loads full 2560 width images quickly...
It's called Photo Gallery by pickwick santa.
Has some ads but when it works looks interesting.
If anyone finds any replacement gallery apps that display full res images fast please post...
Just Pictures displays really fast.
I also like that it excludes directories easily as well.

Thanks, missed that, had looked at setting in full screen mode.
Looks like a nice app.
Couple small things ...
Noticed pinch zoom does not work?
Does not seem to be a way to show images at the pixel level if they are smaller or larger than 2560 wide?

Yes this is unbelievable. My brother and I both do a lot of photography. He likes Apple stuff, I don't. But what pisses me off is that his iPad goes immediately to the pictures. My Samsung Note Pro 12.2, with a lot of pictures and albums, some internal some on SD, has a black screen for 20 SECONDS before pictures show up after opening the gallery.
Yeah, nice hardware. Now please, some clever software.
Use Quickpic. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder
Nobody in their right mind voluntarily uses the Stock Gallery with more than 50 High Def images. I'm a photographer, just opening stock gallery is enough to freeze the entire device. Quickpic has no such issues. (And has a lot more features. And the option to exclude folder.)

It appears that you are right. I accidentally assumed that the stock stuff on this pricey thing was gonna be fine. I will install the other apps mentioned in this thread and try them out.
What I do like tho, not as a photographer, but as a consumer, is the facebook/flickr/social albums in the stock gallery. If only they had one clever developer that knew how to actually pre-cache the albums.
In FB and in Google Photos the rotation of some of my pictures are wrong.
The rotation is fine in the Xperia photo app.
Any suggestions to a solution.....or is it a bug? Am I the only one that has this experience?

I See It too.
I Rotated an image using Xperia Album App then I set it as wallpaper But when i wanted to upload it to instagram it was like first time (not rotated)
maybe Album App bug that not rotate the actual image file and maybe temporary file in cache or something!
or maybe rotate the frame of image in Album!
The Solution is using another app to rotate
:good:

Your solution is a possibility, but is really not good if you wanna take a picture and use it right away in ex. Facebook Messenger. You don't see the wrong rotation until the picture is in Messenger and then you have to edit the picture with another app....and then send it with Messenger
I have the same issue, but I think I have understood. My screen orientation is locked on portrait. When you take pictures the camera app still rotate.
So if you take a picture with camera in landscape mode and screen in portrait mode. the photo will be rotated... Hope I'm clear.
I tried to view some pictures on my PC that i'd taken yesterday and they were upside down! Don't think I was so drunk I took them upside down but you never know.
Always had rotation issues on Xperia I see it as a quirk of the phones.
When taking a picture in the camera app then tapping the picture in the bottom right corner to view it, I am taken to a random one of my photos. Anyone know why this is? Date and time are perfectly fine btw.

try backup all your photos somewhere else, delete the DCIM folder and take some picture. The new DCIM folder will be created. Happen once to me on 8.0.
Hi again! I can believe that OP didnt give us the option to record video with the wide angle lens. I've found it very useful. So, searching a little bit, i find this code *#*#1597#*#* that you put in dialer, to open de developer camera api.
Digging into the app, i realize that you CAN record 1080p video with the wide lens, so.. theres any mod to skip this awful step, copying the code, everytime i wanna use this function?
I dont know why we dont have this option native in the app.
PS: sorry for my bad english!

What are you talking about? I dont understand. The black background on a portrait mode is a Samsung Feature, for example.
You're holding it wrong.
Why won't phone manufacturers fix this obvious problem?
IE, when the phone is held vertically the capture is still a proper 16x9 wide screen?
Vertical video capture is ruining everything!

Hey! Calm down. That was just a test. I think we would be more open mind. Some content its better to see in horizontal, other content its better in vertical. Im a photographer and sometimes, there are stories that are better to told in vertical, cuz i wanna told you something in that form, for example, this pics here: the vertical one, have a special touch, a unique point of view im comparison to the horizontal one

Sorry if I came off sounding harsh, it's a major pet peeve of mine!
Still photos in portrait orientation are fine obviously.
It's the video that's the issue.
A simple solution to this problem can be fixed on all devices, not sure why the manufacturers don't implement it!

Hey! Hello!
You have to open the front camera and switch again to rear camera. You will see in red (Wide).
