I notice full 2560 width images render very slow on the 12.2 in the gallery app.
They 1st appear at a very low resolution then slowly start sharpening.
Is this a 12.2 issue , gallery issue ? Any image viewer apps that show images instantly in full Res?
Here's a link to some 2560 width test images if you want to save and check. ..

http://members.shaw.ca/JVPhoto/TestImages/2560x1600/2560RGBWhitecrop.png
Both test images show instantaneously in Galley on my Note Pro. (Ditto other high res images I'm using as desktops).
I would try clearing the cache in the gallery app. Also, are you loading images from an SD card or internal memory?
Otherwise I would recommend QuickPic. The first thing I do with any device is replace gallery with QP. Its much better. (Also I hate that gallery wants to display every random image on the device in its own directory, so its always a big mess, whereas with QuickPic you can easily exclude entire directory paths and only see relevant media directories.) Plus in general, its faster.
I notice rendering taking place when viewing my high resolution pictures such as those taken by my dslr. The image pops up instantaneously but sharpens gradually from top to bottom, left to right.

Same result with quick pic.
Took a screen shot with home+power , image renders very slow as muzzy996 mentions in both gallery and Quick pic?
Hmmm...
Yeah I see it with screencaps, same as described. Now I notice it on other photos as well, but less extreme and faster to fully render. I haven't tried DSLR photos yet.
I notice the same effect on my Note 3, but I have to look close to really notice it.
Went to a local store tried taking / viewing Home+Power screen shots on all current Samsung tablet models.
All show the same very slow rendering of images. That was the Note 12.2, Note 2014 10.1, TabPro 8.4 and 10.1.
Tried the same on an Asus tablet and iPad air both render images instantly.
It's not just the gallery app, as photos and even quickpic show the same lag .
Only workaround I found is to view images in a browser, file:///storage/emulated/0/dcim/
I'm surprised this is not a widely mentioned concern?
My gallery renders images (internal memory and SD card) incredibly slowly as well. The interface also becomes unresponsive. I hope they have a software update in the works. This shouldn't be the case with a $750 tablet.
I'm not holding my breath for a software fix for this. Even the gallery app on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 running ICS (Android 4.0.4) has the same issue.

Just found an app that loads full 2560 width images quickly...
It's called Photo Gallery by pickwick santa.
Has some ads but when it works looks interesting.
If anyone finds any replacement gallery apps that display full res images fast please post...
Just Pictures displays really fast.
I also like that it excludes directories easily as well.

Thanks, missed that, had looked at setting in full screen mode.
Looks like a nice app.
Couple small things ...
Noticed pinch zoom does not work?
Does not seem to be a way to show images at the pixel level if they are smaller or larger than 2560 wide?

Yes this is unbelievable. My brother and I both do a lot of photography. He likes Apple stuff, I don't. But what pisses me off is that his iPad goes immediately to the pictures. My Samsung Note Pro 12.2, with a lot of pictures and albums, some internal some on SD, has a black screen for 20 SECONDS before pictures show up after opening the gallery.
Yeah, nice hardware. Now please, some clever software.
Use Quickpic. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder
Nobody in their right mind voluntarily uses the Stock Gallery with more than 50 High Def images. I'm a photographer, just opening stock gallery is enough to freeze the entire device. Quickpic has no such issues. (And has a lot more features. And the option to exclude folder.)

It appears that you are right. I accidentally assumed that the stock stuff on this pricey thing was gonna be fine. I will install the other apps mentioned in this thread and try them out.
What I do like tho, not as a photographer, but as a consumer, is the facebook/flickr/social albums in the stock gallery. If only they had one clever developer that knew how to actually pre-cache the albums.

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and Android, so pleas ebe gentle with me.
I have been lookingat the new Android tablet/pads and have been taken with the ASUS transformer in particular.
My prime use for a pad is to view pictures from my DSLR (jpg or raw) and use as a picture album.
So yesterday I went to have a good look and play in store, and was realy impressed with both the pad and keyboard and the way the pad worked in general. I very nearly purchased there and then, but decided I had better try viewing images from my camera.
So went back today with both SD and Micro SD loaded with some .jpg images. There was no keyboard available so used the pad mounted Micro SD.
Heres my problem. The images were terrable with saw tooth edging and out of focus. It is as if the images have been resized for viewing torealy smallfile size which has then been streched to far.
I vied directly from the card and also copy and pasted to a new folder in th gallery. Both images looked the same.
I cant belive this is as intended. Is there a specific way to copy or view images from either sd cards or external drive, to ensure full resolution is displayed?
For info the images look great on a 20" display at home.
Thanks for your petiance
Sorry cross posted
Standard Gallery viewer has issues which should be corrected in Honeycomb 3.1. Pictures seemed to be scaled for a smaller display device.
There are other viewers you can download which work better for now.
I forget the name of the one I'm using (quickview?) but pictures look amazing on the Transformer screen.
Have you tried 3rd party apps? I have no experience with HQ pictures but I used the app QuickPic and it worked for me.
QuickPic! Yep, that's the one I use also.
Works great.
Hi,
Thanks for your input.
I bought the pad with keyboard, downloaded quikpic as sudgested, great image quality.
Intrestingly the default gallery app now displays good quality images as well.
Great product, have only had issues with USB, which now seems to be resolved.
Many thanks for your help.

I think many of the HDR (High Dynamic Range) camersa takes nice images and many have professional type settings.
He's asking for a portfolio showcase app, not a camera app. He did say an actual camera. As in a DLSR.
Try:
Fotolio by Netsoft2k (hasn't been updated in a while, though)
QuickPic by alensw.com (a replacement for the stock gallery, but with much more options and better image quality.)
Both are free.
Personally I use QuickPic for my portfolio. I just put all the images in a separate folder.

Fotolio app was created by someone here on xda. And thanks for clearing that up for me...The OP was a bit confusing.
OVERVIEW
When I got my Nexus 4 phone, I wanted to take full advantage of the high quality screen and set a gorgeous wallpaper on it. But I realized that no matter what wallpaper I set, I always get tired of looking at it quite quickly. What I really wanted was a new beautiful wallpaper every time I would pick up my phone. And that's why I created the app Gainos Fresh Wallpapers. It selects a random photo from Flickr's Explore stream and sets that as your wallpaper at regular intervals. I have mine set to change every hour.
APP HIGHLIGHTS
Images are selected at random from the 'Explore' stream at Flickr. This app is not affiliated with Flickr in any way.
Remembers last 10 wallpapers so you can go back and choose one you previously liked.
Choose to change the wallpaper as frequently as 10 minute to as slow as once every week.
Enable Daydream mode on JellyBean+ devices to start screensaver when device is docked.
Share images with your social networks.
Works well with tablets and phones. For high resolution displays a higher quality image is downloaded.
Choose to download new wallpapers only over wifi to save cellular bandwidth.
Minimal interface that stays out of your way. Just start the service once and forgot about the app.

Hi guys, any issues to report?
Just installed it. Interface is clean and simple, very nice!
I don't know much about Flickr, but would it be possible to choose different "genres"? Such as scenery shots, cities, beaches etc..? That would be be a fantastic addition.
Apart from that, it seems to work exactly as described! I'll see how battery life is affected over the coming days but I don't think it'll be an issue
Great work! :good:
P.S. Check the XDA Portal in a few days

First of all, thanks a lot for the app! It's a great idea. I just have a couple of requests:
Let's say I have the app refresh every 10 minutes and I leave my phone idle for an hour. It downloads all 6 wallpapers and wastes bandwidth for no reason rather than waiting for me to see the wallpaper before going to the next one. Could you change the app to prevent these useless downloads?
If I don't like a wallpaper, is there a way in the app to skip this wallpaper? Could you make a widget to skip the current wallpaper?
Hello great app, a save option for saving wallpapers to phone will be great!
The auto download on wifi only toggle is missing on the Nexus 7 with 3G (tilapia).
And it seems to get pretty low res pictures for the Nexus 7 as well, not sure if it's better on the N4 because the screen is so much smaller, and my eyes ain't perfect.
Awesome

Great app and nice job! Simple, clean and compact. I had been using foxsaver for years before they changed it all for the worst. It used to work like this and now its been whittled down to about 10 pics per week. At a point it updated pics every 3 minutes and rarely repeated itself. I still have a foxsaver cache of over 1000 pics that I use with other wallpaper switchers but I am sick of those pics already.
Yes, after looking at the same 1K pics for over a year you will get bored of them too. Kinda explains marrage and divorse, or getting bored of your favorite foods and past times, if you think about it. The human brain needs changing stimulii to keep it satisfied. I feel like I got back the old foxsaver here. Very nice. I missed the "fresh" new feel of constantly changing wallpaper and now its back on the stack.
*****************************************************************************
I found one problem and have another request. First problem is when you upload a pic to your dropbox, it has the SAME NAME as previously uploaded pics. In order to upload one pic you have to overwrite another you've already uploaded. Each pic should have a unique name, every time, every day, every week, etc. I should never have to overwrite a pic with another pic. And there is no way in your app to name the pics. They are named whatever flicker calls them so you will probably have to change this.
My request is to be able to save pics to local SD (or internal memory if I choose). There is no option for that in the share function.
Thank you for the initiative!!

It's designed this way so that you can see a new wallpaper whenever you go back to the home screen. If it waited till you were on the home screen before downloading a wallpaper, you would have to wait a while to see the actual results. Its very likely that you would have actually navigated away from the home screen by the time the wallpaper changed.
If you are concerned about bandwidth, you can use the option that only auto downloads new wallpapers over WiFi, or use a longer interval. I have mine set to 1 hour and I find it pretty good as I get to see a new wallpaper almost every time I pick up my phone.
If I don't like a wallpaper, is there a way in the app to skip this wallpaper? Could you make a widget to skip the current wallpaper?

You can go into the app and press the big green button to get a new wallpaper. You can also re-select any wallpaper from the last 10 you had. I have plans to add either a widget or a low priority notification (or maybe both) which will let you do the same without having to go into the app in a future update. Also, in case you get some embarrassing wallpaper, you can long-tap it in the app and select 'Remove from History'.
When I first downloaded it I was using my Galaxy S3 which is running an AOSP AOKP ROM, however when I downloaded and tried it out on my Galaxy Note 2 which is running a Touchwiz ROM I don't see how to set the app to set both the Lockscreen and homescreen wallpaper. The app just sets the homescreen wallpaper.

You can use the share button in the app (turquoise colored button), to export the currently selected wallpaper to other apps on your device. This way you can save the picture somewhere on your phone.
You can also long-tap on a wallpaper thumbnail and then tap 'View Wallpaper' to see the original image on Flickr. You can then save the image from that website. Please be mindful of the image owner's copyright though - however its usually ok to keep the images for personal (non-commercial, non-promotional) use.

That's a good catch! I am hiding the option for devices that didn't support 3G. But Android doesn't provide a good way to detect these devices. So I was checking if the device supports phone functionality. However, it looks like tablets like yours will fail this test even though they support 3G functionality. I'll look into finding some better way to detect which devices have 3G capability. Look out for it in the next update

As for the resolution, the size of the images downloaded is related to the display size. The image size picked is always one that's larger than the screen's dimensions. However, care is taken not too choose something ridiculously larger as that would just be a bandwidth hog. Sometimes Flickr might not have the correct sized image, in which case a smaller resolution image has to be downloaded. But most of the time, you should be getting a high-res, crisp image.

Thanks for trying out the app IvanAugustoBD! But I wonder if you're missing out on the point of the app. As elfaure mentions in his post, the idea of the app is to keep providing a fresh stream of images to keep your visual senses stimulated at all time. This is hard to do if you keep seeing images from a pre-determined set. The advantage of using Flickr is that you get an endless stream of new gorgeous images.
Having said that, I realize that some people might prefer seeing the same set of images e.g. if it is pictures of their loved ones. But truthfully, this sort of feature is very low on my list.
If this is truly what you want, you might be able to find other apps in the store that cycle through images in your own photo gallery. But I believe you will have a better experience using Gainos than those apps.

The share function is handled by the Android system itself. It does looks like they don't provide any functionality to save images directly to sd card. I'll take a look at what other possibilities exist. For the time being, you're best off saving them to some other app like Dropbox or Google Drive.

I've had a few Galaxy Note 2 users complain about this issue. They all seem to be using Samsung's TouchWiz. I looked into it and found out that Samsung has modified the Android API functionality in Touchwiz so that the wallpaper changing function only changes the home screen wallpaper. In all likelihood they have a separate function for setting the lock screen wallpaper, but it is not documented any where and Samsung has said that they do not make it public either. So the way it stands right now, there is no way I can fix this issue.
I have a Nexus 6p and I'm trying to apply a personal photo to the stock digital watchface (installed on watch by default). It doesn't seem to apply the photo.
This worked perfectly on my note 4 (I understand that it was a samsung phone), but i know when you pick your own photo it supposed to take you to a screen where you can crop and adjust how the photo will appear in the watchface. However that edit screen is not even loading up...just wondering if anyone on the board was having this issue or is there something i'm supposed to do on my Nexus to allow this feature to work. I would really love to apply my own photo to the digital watchface again.
Thanks all

Try to use the game launcher. If you open game launcher and click add app then add the plex to the list, then hold on it, it should say list as a game app.... Then you should be able to do full screen when u launch the game
Edit: I tried with showbox it didn't work, maybe with plex u can make it work

You can force any app that exists to be fullscreen by tapping a cyan-colored circle that appears when you press the app switcher button, the circle appears below the X button in the app card. But I think OP means having a feature that crops out videos to fill the entire screen, that feature needs official support to work.

Oh I didn't know you can do that in the recent menu thank you... what was I talking here is about cropping I thought that it would also crop the video to fit the screen by doing that
I think there is some confusion between "filling the display", and changing the aspect ratio. I'm interested in this device. I went to Best Buy and held one in my hand. It's impressive, but it's shaped funny. Tall and slim. Great if you're a model, unusual if you're a smart phone. If you "fill the display", (which is really your only choice), you're going to crop the image. This is due to the unusual dimension of the display. I don't know of any other devices, TVs, tablets, or phones, with similar relative dimensions. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but I am saying it's a bit unusual. I haven't taken the leap yet because I need an unlocked, dual sim device, but while I wait, I wonder if the Note 8 will have a more conventionally shaped display........
