I recently rooted and have been working on modding my D2G (Froyo 2.2). Found the Gingerbread ROM and flashed it using RSD Lite. When I rebooted, I was back in an UNrooted Froyo 2.2
Thoughts?
Edit: Umm, I might have just done a really n00bish thing and flashed a stock 2.2 ROM DROID2WE_X6_2.4.29_FULL.sbf (Got off of TeamBlackHat app). Is there a Gingerbread ROM for D2G out?
Thanks!
Not yet but soon

the droid2 and droid2 global share different basebands and the same radios wont work. I tried it... until someone can unlock the basebands on the global with GB, we're stuck on froyo.

First I wanna say thank you everyone for their hard work and develop just an awesome Cognition version.
I just successfully install the Cognition (Stock Rom) for my Captivate and love it but I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to Froyo 2.2?
p/s: I found out I have an issue. Every time I put in SIM card, I have an error (process com.android.phone has stop unexpectedly. Please try again) and it will keep repeating til I take out the sim card Anyone knows what happen? Also what is the latest Cognition version right now?
thank you

i could be mistaken but i think what the posters intents were to get a comparison between the barebones official Froyo leak JI6 and the stated cognition rom.

So which is it, Cog or Stock? They are two separate ROMs.
Cog 2.1 or 2.2 or Stock JF6?

Sorry I am noobie here and this forum is so mess up that I can't find where are all the Cog. files so I don't know which is the latest but I believe it is the v2.3b8?. According to my phone information:
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband: I897UCJJ4
Build Number: Cognition v2.3b6
maybe he's referring to the "Eclair 2.1" version of Cognition shown on Designgear's website?
Edit: I see Cog 2.1 was already asked about, NM
Anyway I just flashed to Froyo 2.2...Will test it out and let you know
thank you
lol. you were on Froyo 2.2... a newer build actually than JI6
Dude, you're confused beyond any legal limit.
Go to settings>about phone and tell us what it says for firmware version, baseband version and build number.
We suspect you already WERE running froyo (2.2) because the latest cognition (2.3b8) is built on top of a leaked froyo rom. We also suspect you flashed an older (and more bug-filled) version of froyo.

Before going any further, I highly recommend that you spend a few days reading through the Captivate forum to get a better understanding of how things work and are done. It may save you some unnecessary headaches, actually, it will save you some major headaches.

Yeah dude, as we suspected you are running the OLD leaked froyo rom. All of the newer custom roms (like DG's perception and cognition) are based off of much newer froyo leaks and generally work much better.
+1 in spending a few days reading before you do anything else. We don't want to see you on here complaining that you bricked your phone because you didn't understand what you were doing.
I know what I will do know. Can I delete this thread myself or MOD. only ?

The initial post said they were considering moving to 2.2 but were on cognition. They did not know or mention they were on froyo till much later. The second post by you said that cognition = 2.2. You were incorrect. The cognition releases marked "stable" are eclair based.
Im on an unlocked Droid Pro and manually got myself the Gingerbread update
but I cant seem to find a a final answer to whether or not gingerbread on the droid pro can be rooted?
most forums suggest that manually installing the pre rooted gingerbread was my best bet.. but since im past that stage, is there any looking forward?
I did the same and recovered to my T-Mobile rom really hardly back
You should be able to download the team black hat app and get the new 3.8.7 sbf (this is the most recent froyo update) and flash your phone back to froyo with the sbf. After getting back to froyo you can then install the prerooted gingerbread.

I have been getting complains from people with a Yellow Cellcom Sim card, that they cannot use ROMs like CM7.
I found a ROM that works great with all of this, even better than the NORDIC when it comes to CM7.
This is a leaked 2.2.1 with MOTOBLUR, will upload a nand later
Download:
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/tjnmh6d98
Instructions:
Power off your phone
Hold Volume Up and turn on your phone Battery must be 90% and up
Flash via RSD Lite, make sure you have the proper drivers installed
The phone will turn on by it self, unplugging while flashing will cause a permanent brick.
Flash any Custom 2.3+ Rom

You don't have to flash any SBF. Your DEFY+ comes with a Gingerbread firmware, right? (It's Android 2.3.x?)
You just need to use the "plus" version of the ROM. There are various names for those versions - jordan plus, defy plus or MB526.
(The standard (jordan/defy/MB525) versions are for phones with Froyo firmwares (Android 2.2.x).)
Its defy plus after i flashed it as mb526 instead of 525 is it matters?
And how can i download the right version of quarx for me?

This is not the right thread for your question(s). If you want to install CM10.1 or CM10 they both have Support threads in the Defy General Discussion forum
P.S. Quarx is a guy named Nicolas, are you sure you want a version of HIM? :silly:
P.P.S. Here's the answer anyway - CM10 and CM10.1 are now 2ndboot ROMs - they have a custom kernel contained within and because of that they are universal, the same ROM is used for both DEFY and DEFY+!
Now please stop psoting in the wrong thread

Hello, Im actually a inc2 user, and used to be a fascinate user. A friend of mine saw my phone and is tired of having his slow stock 2.1 ,mesmerize, so i opted to help.
As said, he was on 2.1. I odined to 2.2.1, now up to 2.3....Now I am trying to get a custom rom for him. In the sticky im finding both a cwr 4.0 and 2.5... One is blue and one is red.
My question... is if im trying to get a cm7 or miui for him... what recovery do I use.
I heard you need to be on 2.2 to go to cm7, and to use cwr 4.0 to flash.. however... when I do that... it goes instantly into a samsung bootloop and never flashes. When i try flashing with 2.5 cwr red version, it aborts.
basically my question is now that im on 2.3 what version cwr do I use, and how do i get to either cm7 or miui?
thanks!

If you're trying to goto CM7 or MIUI, then you'll need cmr 4.0 before hand. Red is the custom recovery only used for custom roms running gingerbread or bellow. I definitely suggest checking out ICS on rootzwiki though, it's the best mes/sc/fas rom I've used so far! ^.^

Instructions is in the mes post(http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13774-rom-jts-ics-build-edited-for-mesmerize-showcase-build-6/), not working list is in the fasc post that the mez version is based on.(http://rootzwiki.com/topic/16630-romicsiml74k-teamhacksungs-ics-port-for-fascinate-build-61-0201/)
I'm not sure why your recovery flash isn't working. There's a tutorial here (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10728-guideinstalling-a-romcwm-recoveryrootor-going-back-to-stock/).
You need to flash the file named "CWM4 FIXED FOR CM7" if you are flashing mtd rom to mez. "CWM-RECOVERY-ALL-3-30-FIX" for tw roms
You might find more help at rootzwiki, this forum died months ago during developer exodus... they all went there

You're mistaken. This formally was the main forum for the mesmerize and showcase; however, disagreements between some of the developers and xda's admin caused many people to move to rootzwiki. We still are and have been a fairly active community.

Ah, I see. No worries
I have a red lens with CM7.2 running on it
when I purchased it had froyo android 2.2
then I flashed it with gingerbread
unfortunately since I had accidently flashed a full sbf 4.5.1_128 UK retail
http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy
I had no root or had no option to but use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152377 to get back to froyo using a unique eclair and then using froyo nandroid and a fixed sbf of CEE froyo
then I installed CM 7 and have been using it since
Have been able to use MIUI and many walters ROMS but none could give me a good batery life except with CM7 which I am using now which takes me through one day atleast..
Now with release of new sbf with Bl6 Bl7 Bl5
could some one explain how to get back to froyo faster if I have to
may be that way I might get a better battery..
and save time in case something goes wrong when flashing another ROM next time
