First I wanna say thank you everyone for their hard work and develop just an awesome Cognition version.
I just successfully install the Cognition (Stock Rom) for my Captivate and love it but I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to Froyo 2.2?
p/s: I found out I have an issue. Every time I put in SIM card, I have an error (process com.android.phone has stop unexpectedly. Please try again) and it will keep repeating til I take out the sim card Anyone knows what happen? Also what is the latest Cognition version right now?
thank you

i could be mistaken but i think what the posters intents were to get a comparison between the barebones official Froyo leak JI6 and the stated cognition rom.

So which is it, Cog or Stock? They are two separate ROMs.
Cog 2.1 or 2.2 or Stock JF6?

Sorry I am noobie here and this forum is so mess up that I can't find where are all the Cog. files so I don't know which is the latest but I believe it is the v2.3b8?. According to my phone information:
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband: I897UCJJ4
Build Number: Cognition v2.3b6
maybe he's referring to the "Eclair 2.1" version of Cognition shown on Designgear's website?
Edit: I see Cog 2.1 was already asked about, NM
Anyway I just flashed to Froyo 2.2...Will test it out and let you know
thank you
lol. you were on Froyo 2.2... a newer build actually than JI6
Dude, you're confused beyond any legal limit.
Go to settings>about phone and tell us what it says for firmware version, baseband version and build number.
We suspect you already WERE running froyo (2.2) because the latest cognition (2.3b8) is built on top of a leaked froyo rom. We also suspect you flashed an older (and more bug-filled) version of froyo.

Before going any further, I highly recommend that you spend a few days reading through the Captivate forum to get a better understanding of how things work and are done. It may save you some unnecessary headaches, actually, it will save you some major headaches.

Yeah dude, as we suspected you are running the OLD leaked froyo rom. All of the newer custom roms (like DG's perception and cognition) are based off of much newer froyo leaks and generally work much better.
+1 in spending a few days reading before you do anything else. We don't want to see you on here complaining that you bricked your phone because you didn't understand what you were doing.
I know what I will do know. Can I delete this thread myself or MOD. only ?

Okay so I know I'm a newbie but... Can anyone tell me how to get Flash on my At&t Captivate? I know 2.2 has been released and but apparently I need a step by step guide even though I've been doing this for a long time (maybe I'm suffering from altzhiemers).
Search the app market for "flash 10.1". Install.
You need to have android 2.2 for Captivate. Then search "Flash Player" on the Android Market. I don't recall if the app is pre-installed on the 2.2 Captivate.
Good luck. Click on that link... I wrote up that guide... it's fairly easy to follow. Just remember to take it step by step and follow each one exactly. Download mode, have odin open, then plug in, and flash away!
Flash player requires Android 2.2 which hasn't been released for Captivate yet.

thats because you are not as LEET as the ones that all post there are too many bugs to run it....
i have been running FroYo since about 3 hours after designgears dropped the leak on us....there have been a few quarks that we have had to work out, but any BUG that some people think thats there, is easily remedied with a little looking around on the forums.
you know, its the cool thing to be against the FroYo movement....

Also, OP, I've found the absolute easiest way to get FroYo/root/lagfix-all in one is with Cognitions Odin thing. It flashes the latest version of Cognition and take only about five minutes. Extremely simple. Almost as easy as the Odin3 one-click stock recovery thing. And obviously with Android 2.2, you can use install flash from the market and use it to your heart's content
JI6 leaked Foryo bugs are well doucmented in a dedicated thread. You probably rarely use your phone if you don't encounter any bugs.
Yes, I'm aware there are ways to work around some bugs (like replace the email client with the older email client) but that doesn't mean the ROM has no bugs. And my phone still need reboot at least twice a week to make it funtion correctly. Otherwise, the phone just slows and lags and some menus just show random stuff.
Even Samsung has to pull its *official* JP6/JPM release in Europe to fix the various issues.

so why not use a rom based on it that a kind dev has already tweaked for us?
not use my phone much??? LMFAO!
its my work phone (email and cell), personal phone (email and cell), gps (yes mine works), handheld game device, and toy.....
yeah, thats not using it at all....
most of the roms out there based on the leaked froyos are very stable and good enough for daily use.
You lost me there, bro. What the buggy Froyo leak from AT&T has anything to do with custom ROMs? I'm not anti-Froyo. Just stating the fact that current leaked beta ROM from Samsung is very buggy.
I said the leak Froyo ROM is buggy. And you said it is not because you're running a custom ROM ?? WTF? It's like saying I'm running a Nexus One with Froyo w/o problem hence there should never be buggy Froyo out there for any phone.

LOL....and i said that the 'bugs' can easily be remedied by looking around on the forums. the custom rom came into play because all the tweaks have already been done for you and do not require you to apply anything special to rid the 'bugs'.
honestly, the bugs that are being claimed are very minute, and dont warrant a blanket statement like, 'Stay away from Froyo for our phones!!!111 its evil!!!111'
reading comprehension is a skill.

Do any stock Froyo or Gingerbread ROMS exist for the Captivate? I see all of these aftermarket ROMS posted but I don't like all the themes or added programs they come with. I just want a stock ROM.
There is AT&T stock 2.2 and Rogers stock 2.2 depending on which Captivate you have.
2.3 has not been released for the Galaxy S. It was leaked for the i9000, but that ROM isn't working yet. The only real 2.3 ROM for the Captivate is CM7 which is not yet stable.

Seriously? If you want a stock ROM then just use the one available from your carrier. Cognition 4 is as close as a custom ROM can be to stock, but minus the bloatware and it has some minor performance tweaks. This place isn't in the business of creating "stock" ROMs.
For stock like feel, i'd recommend one of two roms. Andromeda 1.2 (unthemed) or Cog 4.1. Andro is based off of the Armani Captivate 2.2 and the devs did a fantastic job of making it somewhat minimal and still has all the goodies. They also added a few other nice touches. Cog is based off of official ATT 2.2 with the bloatware gone and lagfix installed. It is also very nice but didn't hold my attention the way Andro does. As was already mentioned CM7 is ok for people that know how to trouble shoot their phones and can deal with the bugs. It's NOT meant for people new to their phones and flashing.

AT&T hasn't pushed an update for the Captivate. Even if they did it would still be loaded with crapware that slow the phone down.
So, it's impossible to get a stock rom easily?

The update came from Samsung and not ATT. The easiest way to get a "stock rom" is to use keis to do the update. Yes it will come with all the bloat from ATT. If you dont want the bloat then there are ways to remove them, gone over many times in the forum which you would have found had you done a search.
As for Stock Gingerbread roms, well to be honest we will most likely not see an ATT stock gingerbread as the 2.2 update is most likely the only one we will get through official channels

This also includes the usb drivers. Just connect your phone to your computer and update.

Correct, you have to flash froyo ROM, then flash a stock voodoo + froyo kernel. From here follow the instructions from the OP who posted the CM7 ROM.
So I'm running Infused v2.2.3
Firmware version 2.3.3
I'm still a newb at android and am not clear on the distinction between firmware & rom. I'm assuming it's like the BIOS and OS relationship on a PC.
I remember when I was using stock, I had a software update option in the settings/about phone menu. I had it under Infused 1.6, and that option has disappeared under infused 2.2.3
So, is 2.3.3 the firmware I should be running?
If no, how do I upgrade it?
Could upgrading it affect/fix my camera, because it no longer works under infused 1.6 or 2.2.3?
Thanks!

Nooope, OTA updates are "official" updates pushed out by AT&T. Infused is a custom rom...I'm assuming you want an updated GB? Look in the dev section for some of the newer roms based off of newer AT&T leaks. (2.3.5 or 2.3.6)
I'm pretty happy with Infused 2.2.3
It's snappy, I noticed better battery life etc.
I'm just trying to get my camera to work =(
That's my only qualm. Saw somewhere where someone mentioned camera firmware, and I thought that might be an avenue to pursue.

That's not really how it works, but for me, the camera seems to be the first thing that FC's on a bad flash. The way I've fixed this issue is to re-flash the rom. Option 2 would be to search the themes and apps section for a camera apk, use root explorer to place in system/app and change its permissions.
Got it uploaded and rebootig now. Is there any specific permissions it should be set to?
