[SBF] "Bug Solver" 2.2.1 for Israel Devices - Defy Android Development

I have been getting complains from people with a Yellow Cellcom Sim card, that they cannot use ROMs like CM7.
I found a ROM that works great with all of this, even better than the NORDIC when it comes to CM7.
This is a leaked 2.2.1 with MOTOBLUR, will upload a nand later
Download:
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/tjnmh6d98
Instructions:
Power off your phone
Hold Volume Up and turn on your phone Battery must be 90% and up
Flash via RSD Lite, make sure you have the proper drivers installed
The phone will turn on by it self, unplugging while flashing will cause a permanent brick.
Flash any Custom 2.3+ Rom

You don't have to flash any SBF. Your DEFY+ comes with a Gingerbread firmware, right? (It's Android 2.3.x?)
You just need to use the "plus" version of the ROM. There are various names for those versions - jordan plus, defy plus or MB526.
(The standard (jordan/defy/MB525) versions are for phones with Froyo firmwares (Android 2.2.x).)

Its defy plus after i flashed it as mb526 instead of 525 is it matters?
And how can i download the right version of quarx for me?

This is not the right thread for your question(s). If you want to install CM10.1 or CM10 they both have Support threads in the Defy General Discussion forum
P.S. Quarx is a guy named Nicolas, are you sure you want a version of HIM? :silly:
P.P.S. Here's the answer anyway - CM10 and CM10.1 are now 2ndboot ROMs - they have a custom kernel contained within and because of that they are universal, the same ROM is used for both DEFY and DEFY+!
Now please stop psoting in the wrong thread

You will need to flash stock using odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
You are on the leaked froyo which had s recovery that will not allow you to flash custom roms.
You can find roms here in the development thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=706
Flashing roms is mainly done through clockwork recovery which us installed through rom manager which is a free app you can get from the market
As to which rom to use is a matter of opinion. Read threads, and understand the known issues. Most of the custom roms are great but there are short comings
If you need any further help feel free to pm me.

because recovery 3e which is what comes with FROYO by default, doesnt allow unsigned zip files to be used...which means you will not be able to use clockworkmod to install new roms...

Can you tell me how did it get the stock version?
I too had the same version but whenever I use the Method 1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989, it always stays at download page and nothing is done on Odin. So I went with the steps mentioned on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439 which still keeps the 2.2 firmware(btw mine is 1010 series)
Any idea on how to get back to stock version.

lol.. he cant found phone application.. of course.. there's no "phone" but dialer..
again. all we have to do is wait. and maybe this build come to defy next year or maybe someone just found the betas as usual..
quick question, if this doesn't become available for the defy is there any chance to port it to our phone without breaking the signing?
it possible with a nandroid backup but..its necessary see if the hardware its the same etc...etc...
they have similar hardware but not really the same
I won't recommend to install this Droid X update. It should be possible to flash it via clockworkmod, but the bootloader is only half the size than a normal defy bootloader. If everything goes wrong and you can't go into the flashmode (Vol + while starting) you'll never get your phone back running....
Indeed. And since it's not the same hardware, I do not see how this will help Defy users.
Furthermore, I disagree that the Defy is 'insanly popular'. Amongst current users, probably. But that's the case for any phone that a user picked out themselves.
That said, the author of the video seems rather .. unused to handling the phone, he regularly performs actions that seem to have no effect with the phone he is holding.
we can do a port from droid 2, but it if gingerbread can not be run on 2.6.32 kernel we will have to wait for a leak, for now there are two leaks( droid x and droid2) so who will be the next one?
well it would be awesome to have gingerbread on defy, but i dont think motorola is going to release it this early. and i dont think there is going to be a gingerbread rom for defy until the smart guys on cyanogenmod show some love for the lifeproof device. and its not likely that we are gettting gingerbread right now cuz we dont even have official updates for froyo till today. but its motorola, who knows, they might just release the update right now or even years later. lets hope they do it soon.
I don't think we we'll see an official Gingerbread Update for the Defy EVER. Why should they!? Till now the Defy is not such a high end device as the other Motorola Devices which got Gingerbread already or in near future. I think they only release an Froyo Update and then concentrate on other devices.
Furthermore i guess before they will take some men from their dev team to build a Gingerbread Update for our devices, they will release maybe a device like a Defy 2 with better specs and finally an actual software version.
But how much effort is it to build a official Gingerbread Rom for the Defy at Motorola? They already have a proper Version for the Droid X and the Milestone 2. Therefore it would only be the bootloader with the drivers which they have anyway. Or is it more difficult?
Bye

N900 runs gingerbread on an older kernel, I hope that it can run using a froyo kernel
Aslong as the bootloader is locked this isn't easy to just port it..
I really don't like this policy of locked bootloaders..
Also I think before releasing a 2.3 for the Defy they might plan a Defy 2 with 2.3 as a "feature"
But about this, as i'm not a developer myself. Isn't is basically possible to sign gingerbread rom on the computer and have the rom in a form of nandroid backup? or a update.zip which you can install from stock recovery?

Try it...:
- get the droid x zip-file
- delete everything but the system.img
- delete all flashingcommands out the script under \META-INF\com\google\android\
- resign it with signapk
- copy it to your root of your sd-card
- rename it to update.zip
- reboot to clockworkmod recovery
- apply update.zip from your sdcard
- reboot and you'll done
Report back here... doing this won't damage your phone forever...if it does'nt boot any more, you can get it back to life with RSD-Lite and a sbf-file
you can also test with the recovery partition .. its another "kernel + initrd (cpio.gz)"

one question tho, while cm7 would install fine i initially tried to flash the ICS port by teamhacksung and it resulted in a bootloop, is there some step im missing? are someupdates only installable from internal sdcard?
You must be on a mtd based rom, which cm7 is, (touch wiz roms are bml based) before flashing to ics. U should be able to flash ics with no problem now.

Enjoy, it's quite different
Well, ics successfully flashed this time.
Only difference from my last attempt was I flashed a cm7 nightly instead of stable, also once on cm7 I flashed a newer radio as well as the glitch kernel. Dunno what had affected it before but its now running nicely on ics build 9.
Thanks for the help guys, I guess where I got hung up is where cwm resides in the kernel on this device? Where on all my htc's we simply flash cwm over the stock recovery. Anyways thanks again!

The glitch kernel is not compatible with ics, as of yet. It was over written when u flashed ics I'm pretty sure.
Well being completly new to this device was a lot of learning, I still have no idea what I did wrong initially to get stuck in bootloops, but I somehow managed to get cm7 working and then up onto ics so all is well as far as I can see now. Its a backup device for us so I'm pretty sure I will only be flashing ics as it matures. Must say the ics on the cappy is pretty far ahead in terms of usability compared to the desire z, great work here from your devs! And thanks for the pointers guys!

[Q] Which custom ROM is recommended for me?

Hi all,
I need help deciding which custom ROM to flash to my i9003, but i want one that has full Arabic support and a good camera firmware. If possible, please post images of ROMs you recommend, any help is appreciated
Good camera- gingerbread has dim video recording, so choose a froyo custom rom. Maybe cranium 3.1(I tink its froyo, not sure) and should have Arabic(again, I'm not sure). Check out the android dev section for that rom, and also I believe you can add Arabic patch to any cRom.

hello mate,
Well if you not interested in video record, I suggest for you Cyanogenmod 7 it is so smooth and stable with some issue that can be fixed soon, like video record, apps can't use mic.
this is my chose

@bscraze Thanks for your response. Ive been reading a little about Cranium 3.1, and i'm about to flash it but i had a question related to the instructions given by sakindia123:
he says clean flash to XXKPH, so can i flash to JPKP5 instead? it is exactly the same version of gb but just different region (language)
maybe anyone can answer my question without having to start a new thread over it
thanks..

I don't think so, there's no reason not flash to xxkph, unless you're sim locked. If you still want to try, go ahead, I'm not sure weather it will work. If it doesn't you can always reflash, as it will result in a soft brick at most
Sent from my GT-i9003 powered by MIUI
cranium is GB, not froyo. don't flash the rom without upgrading to GB first. (I see that was mentioned that you know it's GB, so just a warning...). in addition, if you haven't seen it yet and you want to use push mail notification, GB has a bug on all ROMs that keeps it from working properly. if you don't need it, then flash away!

Remember to do a full wipe before and after flashing(for safety) and you may want to flash a custom kernel after that, maybe xda bam or uc kernel, and remember to wipe cache and dalvik before and after flashing the kernel.
Remember that if you can't boot your phone but can access download mode, don't panic, just do a reflash. Eg. Reflash kpq.
PS. I recommend uc kernel v9 2009 or 1009 or 3009 if your phone can handle the overclock. Also, custom roms are definitely better than stock roms have fun flashing

[SBF]BL6&Froyo sbf!!! We can now use froyo kernel and green lense camera with bl6

NOW ATTENTION!!!
Thanks to d4d9 on mfunz!
He put up a sbf in bl6 with 2.2 kernel (froyo sbf)!!!
What all above means is that the camera finally works on bl6!
Instructions:
1. This sbf is for the defy which has been into bl6.
2. This is a froyo sbf. We can get froyo(2.2) kernel working with this sbf, which means green lense will work with this sbf and we can use miui that is based on only froyo kernel.
3.Wipe cache&factory settings in stock recovery.
4.Flash this sbf with rsd and reboot.
5.Wipe cache&factory settings in stock recovery.
6.You will get a official froyo rom with working camera for both green and red lense on bl6
7.You can use root tools to root and install bootmenu.
8.You can flash the cm7, cm9, miui, offical 2.3 with gingerbreadmod, etc...
The sbf is only for changing checking key for kernel signature. (Only for changing into froyo kernel.)
Do not recommand to use this rom&kernel and PLEASE use custom recovery to flash another rom like CM7, MIUI. And flash compatible kernel on http://defy.wdscript.fr/kernel/
Some one posted that the kernel in this sbf burned a flashlight!

For DEVs!
It seems we have another kind of bl6. It might use the same key as bl4 and bl5, other than the key in other bl6 sbf... One guess!
It looks like that people who flashed this sbf can flash the froyo kernel before in zip format through custom recovery...
And there's another hypothesis here. The sbf will set no limits on kernel and it won't check the kernel signature when phone boots. Another guess!
we need some tester to prove this.
Don't follow the steps below!!! It is already proved not working and just look at what Quarx said at the end of this post.
(Something not related to but more important than this discussion) The usb port of Quartx's defy is broken. Maybe someone can donate to Quartx for a new defy, because there's no moto service in Russia?!!!......Paypal: [email protected]
Firstly, flash the bl=6 froyo sbf from China.
Secondly, flash the zip froyo kernel (bl=4&5 signature, version 2) View attachment bl4_boot_22_signed.zip through recovery and you will boot normally.
Thirdly, flash the zip gingerbread kernel (bl=4&5 signature, version 2) View attachment bl5_boot_23_signed.zip through recovery and entering the bootmenu will be a success result.
Fourthly, flash the zip gingerbread kernel (bl=6 signature, version 3) View attachment bl6_boot_23_signed.zip through recovery and entering the bootmenu will be a big success result. (no black screen and bootloader error can be successful, too) At least, this means we can use both version 3 kernel and version 2 kernel.
Fifthly, final prove! Flash the zip kernel (no signature, extracted from the sbf for testing whether unlocked) View attachment blX_boot_XX_signed.zip through recovery and entering the bootmenu will be a huge success result. (no black screen and bootloader error can be successful, too) This means we can do everything we want with defy, including using the kernels made by ourseves!!!
If any of the steps above fails, you can always go back and get your phone work with flashing this http://115.com/file/e7z2d0jd orthe whole sbf in the first step!!!
NOW some results!
one friend on mfunz in china helped me test what i put above. the fourth step failed.
So, this bl6 sbf shares the same key with other bl4&5 sbfs and is different from other bl6 sbfs.
I think I need more people to prove this. It is not a good result...

this BL looks like ver4.. but re-signed for 6 signature.
i looking in diff.. BL5-6-7 has the same kernel command line (4 - different)...in this BL6 have command line like BL4.
i think if you flash CG35 - 3 to this bootloader.. you should got ERR.
BL6 from this SBF and BL4:
ATconsole=/dev/null rw [email protected] init=/init ip=off brdrev=P3A androidboot.bootloader=0x0000 mmcparts=mmcblk17(pds),p16(recovery),p17(cdrom), p18(misc),p19(cid),p20(kpanic),p21(system),p22(pre k),p23(pkbackup),p24(cache),p25(userdata
BL5-6-7:
ATconsole=/dev/null rw [email protected] init=/init ip=off brdrev=P3A omap3_die_id androidboot.bootloader=0x0000 mmcparts=mmcblk17(pds),p15(boot),p16(recovery),p 17(cdrom),p18(misc),p19(cid),p20(kpanic),p21(syste m),p22(prek),p23(pkbackup),p24(cache),p25(userdata )
omap3_die_id = "/proc/socinfo" - froyo kernel doesn't have it...

Can you please explain in more details please !!!!
ye.like if we flash a nandroid from any 2.3.6 and this kernel that means weve got a working camera?without greenbread?
I am now re-uploading the full sbf to multiupload.
And be careful that it is a Chinese rom, and I doubt if this can break the flashlight.
Anyway, it is a good news for green lens users.
Anyone with green lens defy can test it?

I have read the original thread in the Chinese forum.
It is a froyo sbf, but with bootloader version 6.
the full SBF

I guess this means defy+ users now can use cm7/cm9 that uses froyo kernel by using this custom froyo kernel.
It will be more interesting to know how he create that kernel, how he maintain the signed kernel status after modify to bl6.

i think it's moto that create this sbf.
it is an operator customed sbf for china unicom, an operator in china
This means you can downgrade from 2.3.6 to Froyo??????????

I didn't test this, but I guess yes, defy+ can use froyo and defy user who had flashed full sbf of 2.3.6 can downgrade, using cwm+nandroid backup or use cm7/cm9 with froyo kernel.

Have you tested it?
Which camera does your Defy have? Green or red?
Did you try to flash 2.2 froyo after full gingerbread bl6 flashed?

Omfg that's a good news for u green lensers!!
Just take care of ur flashes!!!

Thats great news.... so that means that a Defy green lens user can flash this FULL 2.3.6 stock rom and use it with green lens camera by flashing the 2.2.2 kernel zip and also be able to downgrade to stock rom 2.2.2?
In that whole process flash light is safe?
