You don't mention if the crackling is a problem with bluetooth, with speakers or with the headphones... but speaking as a user of Cognition, my solution to the sound problem was to change out the KB1 modem and "stock" Cog kernel and replace them with KP1 and Speedmod's latest. I was using Speedmod with the JK4 modem, but the earphone volume was still not very good in-call.
The crackling sounds in your case sound like an issue with that particular rom, though.
This is more related to Modem that you are using.. Try flashing other modems and see which one suits u better.. for most JK4 works well but not for all
My call volume and quality on Andromeda is fine.
On every rom I've tried, kp1 was the loudest by far.

For stock rom?
Awesome phone but the audio is murder!
If you could be less vague, we might be able to better help you.
don't cause audio problems ?
im wondering if there is a way to make the volume louder overall on a stock rom? It pretty much sucks compaired to previous phones I have owned. Ringtone volume is way too low, even at full blast.
Root and flash a rom w/custom kernel that has an audio boost.

Attaching a megaphone to the speaker on the back works as well.
Mainly the tinny audio and maybe a bit louder

The stock unrooted Rom shouldn't have tinny audio.

So I got a defective one?

Possibly, my stock inspire was quiet, but the sound was crystal clear.
Others may disagree though.

no, its common knowledge the inspire (and most HTC phones) have low poor audio. you have to install a ROM with the audio boost kernel to fix it. nothing you can do on stock ROM.
these guys were just bustin your ball pouch.
This is where I miss my iPhone 4 the audio on the inspire sucks It doesn't even sound good when connected to the aux in my truck. And I have to root the phone to fix and HTC knows this thing sucks and will not fix it wow. My last Android device at this time it just seems you have to hack these phones to make simple things perform up to par

I second Vilume+, its a essentially SIGNIFICANTLY enhanced version of DSP manager
From what I have heard Voodoo Sound increases volume and makes music sound better as volume gets louder. Basically an amp. To run voodoo sound you have to have the right kernal installed. I think faux's 0.3.8 kernal works for a bunch of different roms including CM7. You can install voodoo sound from the market. If I'm wrong please someone correct me.
Both faux's kernal and voodoo sound have glowing reviews. Check the Development section for faux's kernal.
yes volume+ is good

Unless it's changed in the past couple of weeks, Voodoo on the G2x only helps with headphone/line out audio. It does not impact speaker sound yet.
Alright thanks guys, ill try those to see how it goes.
Volume+ works ok but I found it to be sub par with sound quality.

Just tried volume+ and still same for me:/. Going to be trying out some more to hopefuuly raise my volume up on audio.
Volume boost is a good simple app that does not distort sound quality. However it only boosts headphone volume, not ext speaker.

On volume + , the virtual room enabled gives the speaker a fuller sound.

I have a pair of beats headphones which sound terrible in the infuse so I tried a couple other pairs I have and same thing. They all sound like the singer in in a cave far far away, and void of bass. I did some reading and someone said to buy an adapter for the headphones. I purchased a 3.5mm TRRS to 3.5 TRRS Adapter. This fixed the issue until I changed to modem KK4 and also KI4, and now I am back to cave sound. Can someone explain what the modem has to do with headphones? or offer suggestions to make them work? Thanks!
Running Infused v2.2.3
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I997RUXKG3-CL366622
Baseband I997UCKI4
Firmware 2.3.3
The modem messes with headphones? i had no idea.

You tried voo doo control in the market? Makes stuff sound better.... and it's free.. just throwing that out there.

I tried the program Equalizer, customizable and it's got some cool features too...
Yeah I tried both. Does anyone use non samsung headphones in their infuse and can confirm they sound good?
Flash a kernel with voodoo sound (core a, b) and download voodoo control. Improves sound quality a LOT.

I use non SAMSUNG headphones and they sound good. I think I've flashed evey modem out there too lol.
My infuse is my daily music driver too. Never had an issue with about 4 different headsets.
I use Skull Candy ear buds, cheap speakers, and voodoo, awesome sound and bass.
My songs sound bad, kinda like what you are describing when I turn on 5.1 though. Maybe that is your problem?
Hey,
I just reflashed Sky ICS onto my phone, the lastest one, non-dragon and now the in call volume is too low. It is not low to the point where I can't hear, but low enough where I can barely hear in a busy spot. Any fixes for this? Before I was on a older version of Sky ICS and it was fine.
Thanks

Did you flash the audio from one of the threads because the audio mod cause in call volume low. You can look in my SIG and has a link to increase audio thru alsa when I ran sky ICS never had any issue

I followed your link, how do you save the value? I'm not sure if I am saving it or not because the volume isn't increasing.
Just upgraded to rooted stock rom vrbmf1 from stock rooted vrbmb1 and flashed vrbmf1 firmware. The only problem I have now is that none of my sound equalizer programs work. Specifically Speaker Boost the one I use most. The max speaker volume I can acheive now is way too low to hear. With Speaker Boost on vrbmb1 it was pretty loud.
I tried the insanely loud mod, which replaces the default_gain.conf in /system/etc, but it does not work presumably because media volume no longer looks for that file.
So, my question is can anything be done with the stock rom vrbmf1 to increase the speaker volume?

Thanks for the tip. Installed viper4android but it didn't make the volume any louder. But if I disable it the volume goes down so low it's hard to tell if it's on, even at highest system volume. I think maybe I'll just break down and try Scott's Bone Stock Rom. I noticed it has a volume booster built in.

Are you trying to stay with TouchWiz or would you go AOSP? If you'd consider AOSP, I'll recommend LiquidSmooth v2.7. Battery life is outstanding. Volume is actually pretty dang good also.

Doh! I forgot to disable Speaker Boost and it was interfering with V4Android. V4Android works great! Speaker volume is increased just like Speaker boost used to do, and headphone volume is insane. Bluetooth is much clearer with the tweaking to the settings I did.
I'm a happy camper. Thanks for your help.
