Just upgraded to rooted stock rom vrbmf1 from stock rooted vrbmb1 and flashed vrbmf1 firmware. The only problem I have now is that none of my sound equalizer programs work. Specifically Speaker Boost the one I use most. The max speaker volume I can acheive now is way too low to hear. With Speaker Boost on vrbmb1 it was pretty loud.
I tried the insanely loud mod, which replaces the default_gain.conf in /system/etc, but it does not work presumably because media volume no longer looks for that file.
So, my question is can anything be done with the stock rom vrbmf1 to increase the speaker volume?

Thanks for the tip. Installed viper4android but it didn't make the volume any louder. But if I disable it the volume goes down so low it's hard to tell if it's on, even at highest system volume. I think maybe I'll just break down and try Scott's Bone Stock Rom. I noticed it has a volume booster built in.

Are you trying to stay with TouchWiz or would you go AOSP? If you'd consider AOSP, I'll recommend LiquidSmooth v2.7. Battery life is outstanding. Volume is actually pretty dang good also.

Doh! I forgot to disable Speaker Boost and it was interfering with V4Android. V4Android works great! Speaker volume is increased just like Speaker boost used to do, and headphone volume is insane. Bluetooth is much clearer with the tweaking to the settings I did.
I'm a happy camper. Thanks for your help.

From what I have heard Voodoo Sound increases volume and makes music sound better as volume gets louder. Basically an amp. To run voodoo sound you have to have the right kernal installed. I think faux's 0.3.8 kernal works for a bunch of different roms including CM7. You can install voodoo sound from the market. If I'm wrong please someone correct me.
Both faux's kernal and voodoo sound have glowing reviews. Check the Development section for faux's kernal.
yes volume+ is good

Unless it's changed in the past couple of weeks, Voodoo on the G2x only helps with headphone/line out audio. It does not impact speaker sound yet.
Alright thanks guys, ill try those to see how it goes.
Volume+ works ok but I found it to be sub par with sound quality.

Just tried volume+ and still same for me:/. Going to be trying out some more to hopefuuly raise my volume up on audio.
Volume boost is a good simple app that does not distort sound quality. However it only boosts headphone volume, not ext speaker.

Hi all,
Managed to put the AudioX settings into a flashable CWM.zip file.
Attached is the newest version which I have currently installed:
Disable Tru Bass effect.
Limiter set to 0.150 instead of 0.250
SRS3D Set space to 0.5 instead of 0.800
I decided to leave some of the limiter since having an uncompressed signal can harm the physical speaker.
This tweak means louder speaker output and no Trubass effect which is by default boosting the 400Hz area.
WARNING: I do not take any responsibility for broken speakers etc. When I tried the original edits the volume was so loud the speaker made some crackle noises. If you keep that volume level chances are you will destroy the speaker and then it will crackle even at lower volumes. The new version does have a softer limiter and the volume levels are good so I think the speaker is not in danger.
Attached is the AudioX.zip cwm installable and the Default_Audio_Settings.zip installable. If you don't like the result simply flash the second zip.
All the best

Wow. This is one flash that really works well. Major difference in volume now. thanks,
Does this make only the loudspeaker (the one on the back of the phone) louder or will this increase the in-call volume as well? And what about headphones? Thanks in advance.

This one makes the loudspeaker in the back louder, I don't think it affects headphones since it's a different output.
I am not a pro developer, only played around with values that seem familiar and by guessing which is the speaker output compared to the in-call volume (since they have a different compression ratio).

Search in photon q forum history - it was my thread.
edit : I have found it
look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057241
I use PowerAmp and it let's you mess with the replay gain and has a pre-amp in the equalizer which both increase the headphone volume. Not exactly sure how but I usually tweak both till I find a setting to my liking. On software version 14 and haven't really needed it except to change a particular volume level because the stock ones are in between what I like.
I've been on ASA14 since first time I bought my Photon Q. I think it's so loud and better than my Atrix HD audio output.
Yeah, I use power amp myself...good app, but still looking to increase overall output, the preamp works only to a certain degree. I am searching more for a build.prop edit or app to actually increase output from the system itself, not limited to one particular application. But thanks!

Is there any way to increase this so it is loud enough to hear when in a jeans pocket in a loud room?

There are many kernels that will be coming out that will in fact make the N5 louder than normal. Google has said that there is a fix in the works that will help increase volume. I currently using Franco kernel and volume is better. Stay tuned.

Can you please cite the source for the google volume fix. This sounds like great news and I hope we get it soon. I have viper4android and even that isn't sufficient enough.
I thought the audio files could use some volume boost to better show off these sexy speakers
These are the default audio files which have been modded. This is NOT a system wide audio hack. For that check out Viper4Android.
This will overwrite files on /system/media/audio partition and should be flashed in recovery only.

Philz
Flashed it with Philz but didn't really notice any noticeable boost in sound after. My music still sounded more or less like it did before the flash with the volume cranked up to the max.
It's not to make your speakers louder but it makes your audio files themselves louder as in stock ringtones, alarms, ui, etc.

Not sure why some are saying no difference ... revert to stock play any one tone at full volume, then flash the mod and play again ... if you dont feel the difference, then this mod is not necessary for you anyways
Added new edited set ...this one has been bumped to Full Dynamic Range without causing any sound crackling (on some tones with 150%) on the speakers.
Think of it like 120% volume bump but all sounds stay withing a decibel limit to prevent crackling.
I think its better than the 150%
