I said I would flash cyanogenmod on a friends G1 because he was fed up with 1.6. I've flashed many custom ROM's on several different devices before but I've made a mess of things with this G1 and I can hardly hand back an unusable phone so I would really appreciate your help.
I rooted the phone using Androot, backed up the apps and settings using titanium backup and then the texts using a text backup app. I then downloaded Rom manager and flashed the latest clockworkmod recovery. Next I downloaded the latest official cyanogenmod rom for the dream/g1 and placed it on the phones SD card using my computer. I then re-opened rom manager and used it to select the zip file from the sd (to flash it) on prompt I checked two boxes one to wipe data and one to wipe the dalvik cache and pressed ok.
The phone rebooted into the recovery wiped the stuff, supposedly flashed the rom and rebooted. However it got stuck on the t-mobile g1 boot screen(it never showed anything else first or anything after) I left it for ages with no joy. I then tried wiping from the recovery and flashing again - same thing so i put cm5 on and tried flashing that. Same problem. Then i realised that it probably would not work because I would need to use DangerSPL as the /system partition is too small on the dream/g1. To be honest at this point I can't be bothered with to do that and this guy will be happy with anything above 1.6 to be honest so I thought I would try and flash CM4 because that's based on Eclair I believe (and so it not require I use DangerSPL or any other method to repartition the NAND). However, I tried it twice and still no luck.
At this point I'm somewhat panicking as I cannot seem to make the phone boot and it isn't even mine! Is anyone able to help?
Anyone? Please?
Look, at this stage I will forget custom roms etc. If anyone can tell me the easiest way to get this phone booting android again i would be very grateful.
Even if you could just tell me exactly how to restore it to stock 1.6 from here?
I have flashed roms on phones before - never had a problem but this is driving me crazy - please help!

Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803482. I hope it helps.
It's been way too long since I rooted mine to be of any real help but I shall try nonetheless.
Firstly, there is a guide in the G1 forum to unroot and get back to stock firmware: Here (but note that I've never done this).
I must stress though (admittedly from memory) that if you have flashed an SPL or radio image at all, be VERY careful about the order in which you revert back to stock (or go to get a custom ROM depending on which way you decide to go). The G1 is very picky, and flashing things (mostly SPL and radio IIRC) in the wrong order will brick the device. That said, if you follow the instructions you find to the letter you should be OK. But yeah, read twice, flash once.
There is a lot of information in the stickies in the G1 forum. It could take a while to wade through but it should all be there. Failing that, post in the Q&A or General G1 subforums and I'm sure a current user will help you out.
I apologise if I've just posted a bunch of stuff you already know/have read - like I said, I've not used the phone in a while - just trying to offer what I can.
Thanks
No worries now guys i've done it! It was quite complicated but its all sorted now. If anyone is trying this and has the same (or similar) issue then pm me and I will tell you how I sorted it.
Otherwise thanks guys and you can conciser this thread:

Hi!
My Htc Hd2 is only able to boot Windows.
What I have done
1. Flashed with a stock rom, LEOIMG.nbh wich I found here somewhere
- Everything went just fine, I had Android on NAND and went back to Windows
2. Flashed HSPL with mskip guide
"[TUT] Flashing your First GSM USA 1024LEO ONLY!! (For Noobs)" [1024mb]
- Everything went just fine, I checked the phone and it had HSPL 2.08
3.a Installed Android "Cyanogen CM7.1 (Gingerbread 2.3.4)" [AmeriCanAndroid]
- Everything went just fine, I followed the instruction carefully, it shut down after the installation and i pressed the power button to boot, but Windows booted and there was no option for Dual boot
( I have a Scandisk SD card, 8 gig, formatted before the installation, and after the installation I have ~7.5gig, ie. 1.3gig used )
3b. Rebooted, but still Windows.
4. Read that Radio Rom might have something to do with it, if its old.. So flashed a new Radio rom [Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14**] I think I had 2.08.50 something before.
- Everything went just fine.
5. Rebooted but still Windows
I am starting to think I have missed a step, perhaps something wich was obvious to the writers for the guide.. Iam very new to android, recived my phone just yesterday.
What my phone have now [Software information ]
Code:
OS version
5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manila version
2.5.20121412.1
ROM version
2.10.531.0 (82076) WWE
ROM date
02/19/10
Radio Version
2.15.50.14
Protocol version
15.42.50.11U
On file manager I can see the following:
Android
Application data
backup
DCIM
My Documents
fix_permissions 10-02-19 155B
Do I need any program to be able to dual boot or does the android version I installed include it?
Appreciate any help!
You need to go into the Android folder through Windows, run Clrcad.exe once (nothing happens), then run HaRet.exe to boot into Android.
Thank you for your reply!
Is this something I have to do everytime I reboot the phone?
If so, is there a way to make hd2 always boot the android?
Thanks!

Yeah mate, you will have to as long as you are running an SD build.
You can get an app that will autorun at Windows boot and present you with a choice of which OS to run, but I can't remember what it's called. You should be able to find it somewhere in the HD2 SD forum.
The only way to circumvent this is to install a NAND build, but you lose Windows.
Thanks for your help, everything works just fine and I couldn't be happier
I would love to have NAND, but I think I wait a bit and enjoy 2.3.4
I just have one question, the Radio Rom that you flash, If I wanted to try out another one, do I just flash over the old one?
Thanks!

My pleasure. That's right, just flash the new radio over the old one under Windows. Make sure it's a .50 radio otherwise it won't work with Android.
Good luck!
not supported !
Hi,
I have my Sensation 2.3.3 S-Off, Super-CID, all that stuff, although it is on stock firmware.
Just wondering, does anyone know from experience or otherwise, will the new 2.3.4 update cause any problems? Bricking caused by update or anything?
I'd rather not S-On manually as I'd have to reflash firmware and I don't want to lose all my personal data, apps, etc.
I don't really care if it goes S-on, as long as it still works!!
Thanks!
P.s. I debranded from Vodafone to Stock Europe, can the CID be rewritten?

Seriously,
U'v come this far and have not flash'd some InsertCoin 2.2.2 Sense
into your Sensation yet? (2.3.4 with OC safely op to 1.5 GHz)
Check this tread and discover what you'v been missing out on.
Get titanium to backup your apps, spend some quality time with your phone and you'll never regret it!
It was the first thing i did after S-off and rooting.
Flashing the radio could be a little "exciting" but whent without a hitch for me. (and most of us)
You'll never go back.... promise!
Jesus, just realized i sound like an infomercial,....

I have to agree, InsertCoin 2.2.2 Sense rom just rocks. If you want to go to Android 2.3.4, just flash this or one of the other custom roms out there that have been updated already using the EU stock rom.
Flashing InsertCoin now! Seems to be going well.
So much easier than expected!
Thanks for the sales pitch, worked a treat!
On the white HTC boot screen for nearly 20 minutes...
Doesn't seem to be looping, just not doing anything???
ok,... that kinda sucks.....
Did u get it going already?
What guide (if any) did u follow?
At what point did this happen?
Can you adb to it?
It's all good now, wiped data with CWM and reflashed and It's working!
Love the speed... Just need to update the radio and flash the overclock kernel.
When updating the radio CWM keeps saying "wrong zip file" though. Any ideas on what could be going on there?
Also, how do you flash to 2.2.2 and the overclock kernel? Just copy to SD and use CWM?
Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Glad to hear it worked out.
And now to top it all up with a recent radio file and some oc madness
Doing the following is on your own risk! I din't force you to do it,
think before act and don't blame me when [email protected]#g it up.
To flash the radio you should,
Download this radio file,
Make sure the filename is PG58IMG.zip exactly or it will not work.
copy it to the root of your sd card.
Download a md5 checker from te market and check the file, The md5 should match up with this one.
md5: 64a0383b87b4b780cf516f7d7e43b784
If not, redownload & try again.
this is very imporant!!
If you flash a corrupted file you will own a very expensive brick!
Now:
Turn your phone off, take out the battery.....wait a few seconds and put it back in.
power up your phone while holding down the vol- button.
The bootloader will scan for the radio update.
Once it finds the update, select Yes.
Allow the bootloader to finish flashing the updated radio, and boot
The radio file is now flashed.
Remove de PG58IMG.zip file from your SD card BEFORE rebooting your phone or it'll try to flash it again when powering up after draining your battery.
To flash the 2.2.2. ROM
put it on your sd card
recovery - wipe all (data/factory reset)
select the file in cwm en confirm.
Also, Never install a theme on an unbooted fresh install, leads to f/cs.
Kernel can be done in cwm aswell by selecting the file and flashing it.
The tool to oc it is included.
Thats it. Good luck, and let me know.
Wow!
Thanks for the noob-friendly tutorial!!
Will try it later tonight and let you know how it goes.
Just with the radio update, fastboot keeps saying "wrong zip file" or something like that... Md5 was correct but still nothing... Bit will try again
Do I definitely need to wipe everything to flash 2.2.2? I have titanium set up and everything backed up anyway, but just wondering. Losing my data for a third time will make me cry a little!
Again, thank you!!
Sorry, also, in CWM do I just "install zip from sd card" to flash the kernel and 2.2.2 ROM, yeah?
Your welcome
I know it sucks, you don't have to wipe BUT, it can (not saying it will) lead to strange issues like force closes etc.
It's up to you.
About the radio file,
Im pretty sure you have the radio file in the wrong location.
It should be placed in the root of your sd card, not the root of your divice.
So like this /sdcard/PG58IMG.zip
NOT in /PG58IMG.zip

Hey, got the radio working perfectly. Trying to copy the 2.2.2 Rom now and it just wont copy onto the SD through copy and paste or adb push. I have no idea what's wrong with it...

Are you sure there is enough free space on your SD-card?
If so, try downloading it directly on your phone.
Got everything working! Have insertcoin 2.2.1 with UnityV7 working perfectly (2.2.2 is unstable on my phone... SU, gmail and facebook all force close)
Absolutely delighted with the results! Wont be looking back
Turns out the problem was a bad SD card (which is making me cry since it's a kingston 16GB class 10)
Anyway, thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it!
Nice! Glad it worked out, and sorry for your loss
Sorry to hear 2.2.2 is not stable for you tho.
Baad (the InsertCoin ROM cook) mentioned a few days ago that work is being done on a new kernel especially written for his ROM so maybe that's worth a shot in a couple off days....
Anyways,....glad i could help, happy camping!
Hi need a bit of help with this one if possible.
start the top..
went to flash leedroids rom..flashed boot image but forgot to pull rom over.
so had various issues getting over in the end had to mess around with recoverys and totally wipe my sd for it to be recognized.
so i solved all this then..now the issue is..of everything i push over..only one rom boots up and installs fine..and that is a cm9 test without sd mounting..so it solves nothing.
any ideas of how to get a rom on there where i can mount the sd..download a rom and put it on..
ill be honest..htc+internal sd card=not happy
ive pushed leedroids..virtuous..utbs rom but nothing.
i tried aokp but it didnt even push.
with these also some get corrupted by a protocol failure..
many questions. currently has cm9 on..but no mounting..so great
Did you already try a factory reset after flashing the stock recovery (e.g. from MoDaCo)?
-
Hi rootrider, yeah i followed a post i found..
basically i used the one click toolkit to flash the stock recovery..then cleared storage and all data etc.then installed clockwork back..it doesnt like the working roms though
cm9 is the only one i can boot up..at least it sees the sd card again in clockwork though
Had your problem as well... I don't remember exactly what I did to get out among many other things (sh..).
Had some trouble as well flashing stock recovery with the one click tool kit. It didn't work as expected. So I did it with adb. Just keep on trying, there is a way out.
-
My next course of action is, to flash the stock recovery, clear everything, reinstall clockwork then install aokp..if its something with the type of rom.maybe that will work..i can mount..get a rom on the sd and resume business as usual..
debatebale whether itll work lol
If this doesn't help get Thor's hammer and flash your appropriate RUU (again).
Easiest method would be to run an RUU and start over again. I see your vodafone UK so try this one
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/RU..._2_10.23.31501S.10L_release_258386_signed.exe
It also includes the new radio too !
Just relock bootloader before running it, After its finished unlock and fastboot flash cwm..
easy peasy !!
--
thanks people, im running leedroids rom now, seemed my issue was is after pushing the file over i just tried to install immediatley..after a couple of reboots just for the hell of it,untouchables rom started installing...phew..
sadly all my sd contents have gone..very dissapointed with the sd card business!
still least its working again!
thankfully azzle didnt need to go back to ruu
Aye, captain. Glad to read this.
It has been FOREVER since I have messed with my G2x. But lately it has been super laggy, the keyboard never picks up what key I pressed properly, and the accelerometer is a MESS.
Im currently on March 2011 baseband, Android Version 2.3.7, and a very, very old nightly.
Im looking to update to the newest baseband as I hear it is a huge improvement, and also try out an ICS rom. I have been browsing and reading up, but am so rusty on reverting and flashing.
Would the proper, easy way to do this be as follows:? This is what I've gathered from reading, just don't want to brick my phone for a stupid reason.
1)Flash a stock ROM - Full Factory Wipe
2)Update baseband with LG Update Tool
3)Root Phone again
4)Flash Custom ROM?
Also, can you revert to stock ROM without an external SD card? I was reading a few topics stating you can't. I also have a backup of the original stock ROM(or at least I think) from a very, very long time ago. Can I just restore that?
I apologize in advance for all the questions, just trying to refresh my memory on this entire process.
from what ive seen, after getting cwm on your phone via nv flash you install one of the ics roms then before rebooting the phone you have to install a fix via cwm that owain has on one of rom pages (domination i think) then you are good to go. and yes, you have to use an external sd card for all of this.
After updating baseband you will lose root as well as CWM. You need to put it back on before you can flash a custom rom on it.

Ahh thank you! And I can not run the tool from a custom rom, correct? I have to flash back to stock, and then the updater will update baseband as well as unroot everything.
I also dont have an external SD card, so I guess I will be buying one to flash back to stock
