[Q] HTC Sensation 2.3.4 - HTC Sensation

Hi,
I have my Sensation 2.3.3 S-Off, Super-CID, all that stuff, although it is on stock firmware.
Just wondering, does anyone know from experience or otherwise, will the new 2.3.4 update cause any problems? Bricking caused by update or anything?
I'd rather not S-On manually as I'd have to reflash firmware and I don't want to lose all my personal data, apps, etc.
I don't really care if it goes S-on, as long as it still works!!
Thanks!
P.s. I debranded from Vodafone to Stock Europe, can the CID be rewritten?

--Removed--

Seriously,
U'v come this far and have not flash'd some InsertCoin 2.2.2 Sense
into your Sensation yet? (2.3.4 with OC safely op to 1.5 GHz)
Check this tread and discover what you'v been missing out on.
Get titanium to backup your apps, spend some quality time with your phone and you'll never regret it!
It was the first thing i did after S-off and rooting.
Flashing the radio could be a little "exciting" but whent without a hitch for me. (and most of us)
You'll never go back.... promise!
Jesus, just realized i sound like an infomercial,....

I have to agree, InsertCoin 2.2.2 Sense rom just rocks. If you want to go to Android 2.3.4, just flash this or one of the other custom roms out there that have been updated already using the EU stock rom.

Flashing InsertCoin now! Seems to be going well.
So much easier than expected!
Thanks for the sales pitch, worked a treat!

On the white HTC boot screen for nearly 20 minutes...
Doesn't seem to be looping, just not doing anything???

ok,... that kinda sucks.....
Did u get it going already?
What guide (if any) did u follow?
At what point did this happen?
Can you adb to it?

It's all good now, wiped data with CWM and reflashed and It's working!
Love the speed... Just need to update the radio and flash the overclock kernel.
When updating the radio CWM keeps saying "wrong zip file" though. Any ideas on what could be going on there?
Also, how do you flash to 2.2.2 and the overclock kernel? Just copy to SD and use CWM?
Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App

Glad to hear it worked out.
And now to top it all up with a recent radio file and some oc madness
Doing the following is on your own risk! I din't force you to do it,
think before act and don't blame me when [email protected]#g it up.
To flash the radio you should,
Download this radio file,
Make sure the filename is PG58IMG.zip exactly or it will not work.
copy it to the root of your sd card.
Download a md5 checker from te market and check the file, The md5 should match up with this one.
md5: 64a0383b87b4b780cf516f7d7e43b784
If not, redownload & try again.
this is very imporant!!
If you flash a corrupted file you will own a very expensive brick!
Now:
Turn your phone off, take out the battery.....wait a few seconds and put it back in.
power up your phone while holding down the vol- button.
The bootloader will scan for the radio update.
Once it finds the update, select Yes.
Allow the bootloader to finish flashing the updated radio, and boot
The radio file is now flashed.
Remove de PG58IMG.zip file from your SD card BEFORE rebooting your phone or it'll try to flash it again when powering up after draining your battery.
To flash the 2.2.2. ROM
put it on your sd card
recovery - wipe all (data/factory reset)
select the file in cwm en confirm.
Also, Never install a theme on an unbooted fresh install, leads to f/cs.
Kernel can be done in cwm aswell by selecting the file and flashing it.
The tool to oc it is included.
Thats it. Good luck, and let me know.

Wow!
Thanks for the noob-friendly tutorial!!
Will try it later tonight and let you know how it goes.
Just with the radio update, fastboot keeps saying "wrong zip file" or something like that... Md5 was correct but still nothing... Bit will try again
Do I definitely need to wipe everything to flash 2.2.2? I have titanium set up and everything backed up anyway, but just wondering. Losing my data for a third time will make me cry a little!
Again, thank you!!
Sorry, also, in CWM do I just "install zip from sd card" to flash the kernel and 2.2.2 ROM, yeah?

Your welcome
I know it sucks, you don't have to wipe BUT, it can (not saying it will) lead to strange issues like force closes etc.
It's up to you.
About the radio file,
Im pretty sure you have the radio file in the wrong location.
It should be placed in the root of your sd card, not the root of your divice.
So like this /sdcard/PG58IMG.zip
NOT in /PG58IMG.zip

Hey, got the radio working perfectly. Trying to copy the 2.2.2 Rom now and it just wont copy onto the SD through copy and paste or adb push. I have no idea what's wrong with it...

Are you sure there is enough free space on your SD-card?
If so, try downloading it directly on your phone.

Got everything working! Have insertcoin 2.2.1 with UnityV7 working perfectly (2.2.2 is unstable on my phone... SU, gmail and facebook all force close)
Absolutely delighted with the results! Wont be looking back
Turns out the problem was a bad SD card (which is making me cry since it's a kingston 16GB class 10)
Anyway, thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it!

Nice! Glad it worked out, and sorry for your loss
Sorry to hear 2.2.2 is not stable for you tho.
Baad (the InsertCoin ROM cook) mentioned a few days ago that work is being done on a new kernel especially written for his ROM so maybe that's worth a shot in a couple off days....
Anyways,....glad i could help, happy camping!

Stuck in cyclic restart after Radio ROM upgrade!?!

Phone stuck in cyclic restart after Radio ROM upgrade!
Hi all, I just loaded a new radio ROM (1.12.25.19) onto my phone (I am security unlocked and sim unlocked and hard SPL'd, thanks to Olinex!) and everything looked to work fine, the status bar got to 100% and the phone rebooted as usual after a new ROM load (I have done several radio ROM upgrades without any bother)
However - it is completely stuck in a cyclic reboot. I get the HTC startup screen and then it just reboots again and again. I tried a hard reset and got the confirmation message that it was restored OK, press volume up to boot. However it does the same reboot again and again
Any ideas? Or do i now have a very expensive door wedge
Have you tried flashing again from SD? Maybe that will help.
Doug M.
Yup - I tried to flash from SD but all I get is a message saying "no image found" and then I stay in bootloader, it looks like it's not reading from the SD card properly. I reckon if I can get it to boot from the SD all will be well (I hope
Any ideas??
Are you using a cdma phone? Do you have a raphael?
Hi Farmer Ted - it's a GSM Raphael and not a CDMA phone, thats why i'm surprised the ROM flash failed!
Weird; all I can recommend is trying to flash a stock, shipped rom. Hope you get that sucker working again! What rom are you using? Does it have a newer rilphone in it? I'm just grasping at straws, but maybe if you you a 1.14 rilphone, it doesn't play nice with a 1.12 radio.

Now you mention it I do have the 1.14 rilphone installed!! How do I get the damn thing to work again? a few people have mention trying to reflash the entire phone via SD, thanks! I think you may have found the problem - now all i need is the solution!
Can you get into bootloader? If so, just try flashing one of the stock roms (that has a radio with it) over the usb connection. If you can't do that, then do an sd card flash. 1 GB cards seem to work the best (that's what I use).

Farmer Ted - cracked it! For some reason the SD instal would not work (i tried all my cards incl a 1GB as suggested) and then tried the USB method - and it worked!! Have now got my phone back !!

Awesome! Glad I didn't screw your phone up any worse, lol.

[q] help flashing freinds g1

I said I would flash cyanogenmod on a friends G1 because he was fed up with 1.6. I've flashed many custom ROM's on several different devices before but I've made a mess of things with this G1 and I can hardly hand back an unusable phone so I would really appreciate your help.
I rooted the phone using Androot, backed up the apps and settings using titanium backup and then the texts using a text backup app. I then downloaded Rom manager and flashed the latest clockworkmod recovery. Next I downloaded the latest official cyanogenmod rom for the dream/g1 and placed it on the phones SD card using my computer. I then re-opened rom manager and used it to select the zip file from the sd (to flash it) on prompt I checked two boxes one to wipe data and one to wipe the dalvik cache and pressed ok.
The phone rebooted into the recovery wiped the stuff, supposedly flashed the rom and rebooted. However it got stuck on the t-mobile g1 boot screen(it never showed anything else first or anything after) I left it for ages with no joy. I then tried wiping from the recovery and flashing again - same thing so i put cm5 on and tried flashing that. Same problem. Then i realised that it probably would not work because I would need to use DangerSPL as the /system partition is too small on the dream/g1. To be honest at this point I can't be bothered with to do that and this guy will be happy with anything above 1.6 to be honest so I thought I would try and flash CM4 because that's based on Eclair I believe (and so it not require I use DangerSPL or any other method to repartition the NAND). However, I tried it twice and still no luck.
At this point I'm somewhat panicking as I cannot seem to make the phone boot and it isn't even mine! Is anyone able to help?
Anyone? Please?
Look, at this stage I will forget custom roms etc. If anyone can tell me the easiest way to get this phone booting android again i would be very grateful.
Even if you could just tell me exactly how to restore it to stock 1.6 from here?
I have flashed roms on phones before - never had a problem but this is driving me crazy - please help!

Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803482. I hope it helps.
It's been way too long since I rooted mine to be of any real help but I shall try nonetheless.
Firstly, there is a guide in the G1 forum to unroot and get back to stock firmware: Here (but note that I've never done this).
I must stress though (admittedly from memory) that if you have flashed an SPL or radio image at all, be VERY careful about the order in which you revert back to stock (or go to get a custom ROM depending on which way you decide to go). The G1 is very picky, and flashing things (mostly SPL and radio IIRC) in the wrong order will brick the device. That said, if you follow the instructions you find to the letter you should be OK. But yeah, read twice, flash once.
There is a lot of information in the stickies in the G1 forum. It could take a while to wade through but it should all be there. Failing that, post in the Q&A or General G1 subforums and I'm sure a current user will help you out.
I apologise if I've just posted a bunch of stuff you already know/have read - like I said, I've not used the phone in a while - just trying to offer what I can.
Thanks
No worries now guys i've done it! It was quite complicated but its all sorted now. If anyone is trying this and has the same (or similar) issue then pm me and I will tell you how I sorted it.
Otherwise thanks guys and you can conciser this thread:

[q] bricked? Arhd bootloop

Hey guys, I been away from the sensation for a few months now and I think I bricked it on my first flash back! I was flashing ARHD & I followed the noob guide, I downloaded firmware & updated, deleted the firmware file, performed super wipe, flashed the rom, and I checked my md5 sums. Now I'm bootlooping the white HTC splash screen, and sometimes I see the beats audio symbol but right back to the slash screen! Ahhh.... I use this line for work. I used the 3.30 firmware as it said to & I'm on boot 1.27? I know one of you guys can help, so please ANYONE,I've got a get this fixed tonight.....
well if its booting then fortunately you're not bricked lol
have you tried re flashing the new firmware?
I flashed the 3.30 that the installation guide I was following told me to. I have ext 2.2, so is that an issue or is it the correct recovery.
Anyone who can walk me through this I'd really appreciate it guys. Just like most, I rely on my phone for work. I'm a little worried here, I've flashed quite a few times and I've never had an issue like this that I couldn't restore out of.....
Try this??
what I did was everything you did.. except I used this firmware update...
Firmware from 3.30.401.1 & 3.30.401.101 RUU
--- MD5 checksum: 824295C6ACDC8D55BED9E0B913192DBE *PG58IMG.zip ---
--- Only for 3.30.401.1 & 3.30.401.101 based ROMs
Then I installed the ICS Energy rom, and everything works great.. I've also flashed a few other roms without issues.. I haven't tried the arhd yet.. I'm currently running the virtuous AOSP rom.. and still, everything works great.. I hope this helps
Just a side note.. have you tried formatting the sdcard then trying that setup? I did have issues with my sdcard in the beginning, but after formatting, I've had no issues..Also make sure the ROM you're using is made for the correct firmware, otherwise you'll have bootloops! hope this helped!
That's the same firmware I used, and I've ran the firmware upgrade twice now. Now right after I updated the firmware the first time I did it, I rebooted on accident & it wouldn't boot even before I flashed arhd.... is this normal?
It wouldn't boot into hboot? What I did was put all the needed files on my sdcard, flashed the firmware, removed the sdcard(while the phone is powered on).. booted into the rom, then put the scdard back in and removed the firmware update..then rebooted the phone, then wiped and loaded an ICS rom..that was really about all I did.. and so far all works well.. I'm really at a loss as to what the problem on your end is.. it sounds like you've done everything you're suppose to do..
You could try to run the relevant ruu (assume you have s-off?) and start again?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
Update::II flashed Virtuous and had no issues and everything is running perfect. Looks just like my transformer prime now. I doing know why at this point that my system would not play nice with ARHD, I followed the guide to the letter and I flashed the firmware 3.30 several timed just as directed. None the less, I am satisfied with this from, and my device is much smoother and more productive than the ****ty GS2 by T-Mobile that I had been using the last few months! I just can't retire my Sensation. Thank you to all who chimed in, you're a great community!
Bricked
That happened to me too when I tried to install ICS without updating the firmware
first.
I just re-booted to recovery and did a restore. I'm assuming you backed up your
ROM right?
Then at least your phone will go back to normal and you can start over...and use it for work haha
I'm good now on virtuous, but I just couldn't get ARHD to work for me. Yes I had upgraded to the proper firmware first, and I always compare md5 sums. I'm by no means an expert, but I always research, read and ask all the nessecary questions before I flash anything I'm not familiar with. I think there may just be rare occasions when some of the devices just won't play nice with certain software. Virtuous took on the first flash & I'm actually very pleased with it, so all's well that ends well. ICS is just so much more intuitive & functional for me
.

Very Weird Issue with my Sensation is there a self test service mode?

Im currently in the middle of uploading a video to youtube to try and show the issue but its like my phone is possessed, i actually bought the phone from a recycle place so I have a 60 days warranty with the phone but I was wondering is there a diagnostic or service mode I can get into on the handset to see if any faults are found
One thing is I thought I was getting an Orange handset which I would have thought would have had some branding on but it didnt and it also didnt have any orange bloatware on but not sure if they do or not on Orange UK handsets? even though i've supercid would it matter if it wasnt an Orange one that I used the orange firmware for 3.32?
It seemed fine when it arrived yesterday on 2.3.4 GB rom but since changing to ICS nothing but bother
Link isnt live yet showing about 12 mins to go at 21:49 UK Time

Had this problem with Darkforest 6.0.0 and also ARHD 6.5.1 and currently virtuous s4x b3 which has been the worst of the lot and the one in the video
Ok so I flashed back 1.17 firmware and restored a back up of my GB 2.3.4 rom and its working perfectly so my guess is my phone for some reason doesnt like firmware 3.32? which means im going to be pretty much stuck on GB?
Hey, it looks like a sense 4 rom that is running in the video? All those roms are ported from another device.. I'd recommend to try stock ICS with the new firmware, see if that works any better than the ported roms
Ive tried 2 3.6 roms too and they did the same, used the newest firmware

Sorry yeah i am and thanks, just not sure which tests i should be looking at, anyway im now on virtuous_inquisition v4.0.0 but using firmware 3.24 its had one little hissy fit which seems to have gone away when i restarted, also when it starts acting usual screen of and on seems to sort it, its just odd it works perfectly in GB which makes me think its software and not hardware issues?
Just to confirm im doing everything right, was it ok to jump from firmware 1.17 on GB straight to 3.32 for ICS with 3.6?
Method im doing
flash firmware in hboot, pull battery delete the PG58IMG file, put battery back in boot into recovery, full wipe in ext4, then run the superwipe script and then install rom, everything seems to go ok until I begin having the issues as shown above in the video clip, I know that was a sense 4 rom but its done the same in 3 sense 3.6 roms now
Did you tried to flash a stock kernel? Not OC'ed? My bet if every ROM does the same, that there is an issue with the hardware.

Hi
I havent as yet, however when I first had problems on darkforest I did try with the 1.2ghz option during flash.
Any recommendations on which to try? So far it seems on on v inquisition v4
Seems to have been ok then this morning I put the phone on charge as it was about 20% remaining, left it charging went back 30mins later or so to check it and it wouldnt wake, not sure if this is a common issue or if its related to the previous problems ive been having?
Ive requested a return from the place I bought it so will see, ill have to make sure I can get it back to how it was, fortunately I have a backup, but ill have to read up on the s-on procedure aswell as getting rid of 4ext
gawd this is doing my nut in, just flashed Android Revolution 6.5.1 using the stock 1.2ghz kernal doing the same so I just have no idea now, going to put firmware 1.7 back on and do a nandroid recovery and see how that goes for the next few days, just wondering if anywhere in the rooting + S-off, unlocking or supercid somethings gone wrong that I didnt see, but afaik it all went fine
format sd card, place only the files you will need.. i.e. firmware and your choice of rom.. reboot phone, flash this firmware "Firmware from 3.24.401.1 & 3.25.401.101 RUU" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618.. after you flash the firmware, remove the sdcard while the phone is still on, reboot into recovery. Once in recovery, put the sdcard back in, then flash whatever rom you wish to use, just make sure that it supports the firmware, after flashing the rom, remove the sdcard again and reboot phone.. once the phone is booted, turn on usb drive and remove the firmware that's on the sdcard and see how things go.. if things are still messed up, then go for an exchange as at that point, it may be hardware related...
I don't think it has anything to do with superCID or s-off as I can see that you're able to flash any rom to the device.. same with s-off...

Thanks, ill give it ago! the only bit is where yousay after flashing firmware remove sdcard whilst on, then reboot into recovery. The only option I get is to reboot no option to reboot into recovery?
anyway
flashed insertcoin 5.1.4 so will see
in order to boot into recovery after flashing the firmware, power off the phone, yank the battery and sdcard, then put the battery back in and power on with the usual power down + power button with the sdcard still out. once in recovery, you will notice that recovery counts down until the sdcard is back in so slip the sdcard back in, give it a sec, then choose the zip file you're going to flash.. flash the rom, remove sdcard and boot into rom.. slip the sdcard back in one final time.. once booted, go into the sdcard and remove the firmware so that it doesn't keep wanting to update everytime you reboot...reboot once more to make sure all is setup and see how it goes.. I'm sure there are easier ways of doing this, but this is one method I've tried and all worked fine... hope this helped..

Still the same, flashed back to 1.17 and did nandroid recovery and it works perfectly in GB oh well, the closest Ive had it working on ics was with Virtuous Inquisition v4.0.0. The problem im going to have returning the handset is that it works perfectly as it was sold to me and if I start going on about installing ics roms etc they are likely to refuse a return.
yay!!! think ive cracked it, well not me but at least I think what ive found what the problem was
Spotted this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542192
Thought what the hell, and long story short its worked, not a single issue like before, which leaves me to believe that for whatever reason 4ext recovery wasnt working correctly when flashing firmwares on my phone as when I used it to restore my original backup it worked fine. Installed the rom above that was packaged as a PG58IMG.zip file and it worked great, might try and reinstall clockworkmod and see if that helps as I never actually used it
Fingers crossed its now sorted but so far so good, not a single issue after installing all my apps again

Htc one S. Time of the month.

Hi need a bit of help with this one if possible.
start the top..
went to flash leedroids rom..flashed boot image but forgot to pull rom over.
so had various issues getting over in the end had to mess around with recoverys and totally wipe my sd for it to be recognized.
so i solved all this then..now the issue is..of everything i push over..only one rom boots up and installs fine..and that is a cm9 test without sd mounting..so it solves nothing.
any ideas of how to get a rom on there where i can mount the sd..download a rom and put it on..
ill be honest..htc+internal sd card=not happy
ive pushed leedroids..virtuous..utbs rom but nothing.
i tried aokp but it didnt even push.
with these also some get corrupted by a protocol failure..
many questions. currently has cm9 on..but no mounting..so great
Did you already try a factory reset after flashing the stock recovery (e.g. from MoDaCo)?
-
Hi rootrider, yeah i followed a post i found..
basically i used the one click toolkit to flash the stock recovery..then cleared storage and all data etc.then installed clockwork back..it doesnt like the working roms though
cm9 is the only one i can boot up..at least it sees the sd card again in clockwork though
Had your problem as well... I don't remember exactly what I did to get out among many other things (sh..).
Had some trouble as well flashing stock recovery with the one click tool kit. It didn't work as expected. So I did it with adb. Just keep on trying, there is a way out.
-
My next course of action is, to flash the stock recovery, clear everything, reinstall clockwork then install aokp..if its something with the type of rom.maybe that will work..i can mount..get a rom on the sd and resume business as usual..
debatebale whether itll work lol
If this doesn't help get Thor's hammer and flash your appropriate RUU (again).
Easiest method would be to run an RUU and start over again. I see your vodafone UK so try this one

It also includes the new radio too !
Just relock bootloader before running it, After its finished unlock and fastboot flash cwm..
easy peasy !!
