new development on crash on wake? - G Tablet General

Forgive me if this has been solved. Couldn't find it in search. I get the birds about 25% of the time when I wake up unit. Running veg 5.1.1. Thanks.

Install clemsyns new kernel. He put a lot of hard work into fixing this issue and making some real nice tweeks for the Gtab. Look for his thread in the development section.

Haptic Feedback: From JustHome v11: Is this a WM6.5 Only thing?

Hey everyone,
I tried out the JustHome v11 (I ruv roo Ivanmmj!) and liked it, but I'm a bit rough on my phone and multitask / use heavily throughout the day, so I gave the JustStableV2Build5-Micro build a try. It's small memory footprint and blindingly fast speed on the Wing won me over.
However, the haptic feedback on the Windows Mobile 6.5 / JustHome v11 won me over too, but I encountered stability issues with Internet Explorer and with multitasking. I know it's an alpha build and I didn't expect it to be as good as it was (and yes, it was good), but not -quite- good enough for my own use yet.
I'd like to know if the haptic feedback is something that's juts a part of WM6.5, or if it's something that's easily installed / ported back to WM6.1, I'd -love- to have it with WM6.1.
Any clues? Thanks!
It's on my juststable and JustStableV2, also. It's just a program that I started adding to my ROMs. Search the forum for touch responce to find it.
On the obligatory side: I have to point out that you should post questions like this under the ROM itself, as it keeps the forums cleaner by not adding non-ROM development threads in the development subforum.
But yea, just search for touch responce and you'll have your answer. ^_^ It might take a while to get the frequency just right, though. Too much or too little vibration and it gets old easily.
Aaaah, touch response, not haptic feedback.

Aaaaaah, alright, sorry about that, I'll do that in the future.
I was searching the forum for "haptic feedback" and didn't come up with much.
Thanks Ivanmmj, as always!

Cog 2.1.6 - Best, most stable setup for me...

Just a short and sweet post about my experiences with various custom ROMs, the leaked Froyo, etc.
I've tried every Cog and SRE (back to 1.5.x), including all Froyo Cog betas and the best performance and overall user experience has been on the Cog 2.1.6 (2.1.7 was not as fast or stable).
GPS: performance of the GPS, in my experience, is just a shot in the dark, no matter what ROM or Jupiter file you use...it works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. I really don't want to go back to my Garmin and have a cluttered windshield, but I may have to or find another phone. The GPS is hopeless on this unit.
I went to the leaked 2.2 and it all around fixed my GPS worked perfect. But I couldn't handle the memory leak/lag. First time with Con (2.1.7). Liking it so far.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
using 2.16. Everything appears stable. GPS is OK. Speed is nice. About 4 days use so far
Captivate
Cog 2.16
Same here, Cog 2.1.6 is running nice and smooth.
Same here also. I happen to need this phone to actually be useful and reliable 2.1.6 delivers that.

Take some Xanax dude, and watch your mouth! It's not necessary to make such posts. I posted this in development for a reason. If a mod thinks I should not have they will move or delete it.

dear god in heaven, please explain this reason to me. I'm so sick of seeing the development section full of worthless posts like this. what are you contributing right now to the development of the android operating system on the samsung captivate that hasn't been said in the cognition thread already?
you mean a pre-packaged ROM based on a stable eclair release is somehow more reliable than a leaked froyo ROM with known memory issues and no voodoo lagfix? it's like you have some fantastic insight that no one has ever seen before!
can we please keep the development section clear from clutter and let it focus on ACTUAL development, not personal opinions and setups?
I'll try to be a little more eloquent than Kaik-
It's cool that you're satisfied with the setup you're using, and I'm glad you found a combination that works for you, but there is a thread dedicated to Cog (a rather large one at that).
Kaik's frustration stems from the fact that there's nothing in this post that is actually development, nothing has been created, ported, or modified, this hasn't built the community or contributed to the evolution of our device- and for that reason this doesn't belong here.
While this thread is in the wrong place, isn't it more appropriate to simply use the report button and allow a mod to move it?
Well, since this IS in the development section, I'm going to post some recent developments as they relate to my experiences with the Captivate.
By far the best ROM I've used was SRE 1.2.3.
Good post too.
And, by the way, I understand if the Cog people want all the traffic to go through the cog site but, to be honest, it's useful to have cog info posted here as well. For example, yesterday I wanted to go from 2.2 to 2.1.7. The only download link I could find was on the cog website, which makes sense. However, when I started having trouble with the install, the cog site provided no links to discussions or anything like that--just a FAQ that seemed to primarily cover 2.2. So I spent like an hour trying to comb through xda threads to find solutions. I'm not anti-searching or anything like that, but it would've been much easier if the cog site linked to the appropriate XDA threads. I'm just saying....
Edit: Oh, and I second the response to unprovoked vulgarities. If I wanted to witness vulgar and unwarranted beratings, I'd go hang out with with my alcoholic step-dad. Thanks.
This does not belong in this section of the thread. -> General
Locked for the reasons above. Please continue the thread in the original topic.
Thread moved to General.

New to Captivate ROM suggestions

Good morning folks, as the title says, new to Captivate. Any ROM's that folks would recommend. Currently running 2.2.
I"m going to set this up for my son for Christmas and want it to rock. Using Simple Mobile. Are there any known issues with carriers other than AT&T? Thanks for any input. I appreciate it. Time to root this new toy
get ready for bashing...this is Dev section.,...read the rules before posting...
I would recommend all the roms in dev section, as they all are really good.
Next time ask questions in Q and A section.
read the new user guide and watch the video, then hang your head in shame.
DO NOT POST IN DEVELOPMENT UNLESS YOU ARE DEVELOPING!
People don't like when you ask which ROM is best, this is a general nono in the world of XDA. The best thing to do is just do a lot of reading and make the decision for yourself. This way you will have learned a lot of interesting things, and the devs will be happy as well. Hopefully not too many people completely tear you apart for this thread... If you read enough you will find what you are looking for. Good luck.
honestly though, ive just been using the latest leaked stock roms, rooting, removing bloat, and adding modified kernel and running ext4. been beyond happy
Anything from The Collective is excellent, but thats just my opinion.
Cyanogenmod is probably the most popular, a good choice as well
In before lock...
This is akin to going to a sports forum and asking "which team is the best?". It tends to just start a flamewar.
Granted, I think there are things that do differentiate some ROMs over others, and give them advantages... some people might argue it comes down to preference/priorities though. My priorities were:
- HSUPA (eliminating all I897 "stock" ROMs)
- Simple/stock-ish theme (eliminating a ton of other ROMs)
- Stability/reliability
For that reason, I've been running Apex for a while. Before that I was a fan of DesignGears' Captivate ROMs but he's moved on to other devices.
While there are people running early alpha/beta releases of Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS) ROMs as daily drivers, the ROMs still are a bit too quirky for my tastes so I'll wait a bit longer.
Well this is the Dev section as others have mentioned...but I know how confusing it is to get lost in this vast sea of roms...so I will tell you what I felt the best ROM...well apex 11.1 is the best in my point of view
I go bake a batch of Christmas cookies and y'all have a field day in Development - moved to general and closed.

ICS help

Lurkers of the Gtab community. As many of you know there is an ICS rom available elsewhere. I would like to bring this rom to XDA also but am pretty busy to keep up on all the support that will go along with it. If you are an avid lurker on these forums please shoot me a pm. I need a few people to help answer questions as they pop up in the thread. Thanks for your help. ICS will be available on XDA shortly.
ps: sorry, this is kinda a random post here. but it is "general" and about the "gtab."
I am currently running the newly developed ICS on my gtab. All I can say is it runs pretty smooth, but could use a OC kernel. I now the kernel had issues, but will wait on a OC one. First for starting this reply is if you decide to do this to your tablet. follow this man's instructions to the T. You will not regret it. HD video works great.... wait awesome. I did install set CPU in order to raise the min. to 456 to get some minor bugs issued. Will post if any issues doing this. I still get the once in awhile battery shut down, but I reboot back into CWM and clear cache and battery stats and all is well. It only seems to happen after first boot up after fully charging of the tablet. I use my tablet as a daily user so if there is going to be a issue I will keep you updated. Thank you very much for such a great updated firmware. This tablet ROCKS.

[Q] Tweaks to help Infinity performance?

I'm just wondering if anyone has any other useful tips on improving the performance of the TFI?
I've already done the tweaks in the "[HOW-TO] Some tweaks to sweeten your life with the Infinity a little" which did help somewhat, but this thing is still a bit sluggish.
Absolutely. We keep all the best information hidden out of reach of a simple search. The real key is to nest it deeply beneath tons of stupid questions like this one.
Seriously. This post is exactly why threads with important/pertinent information are made sticky.
Thanks for the helpful reply (sarcasm).
I've looked through just about every thread on this forum in regards to this. I referenced the sticky thread that seemed to have most of the best tweaks already listed.
Sorry for thinking someone might have some insight on why when the TFI in particular performs so poorly even compared to the Prime (I had one of those also).
I've been on this forum for 3 years and to be perfectly honest your answer is the reason I don't bother posting on most forums. I went out of my way to keep it in the Q&A section (because it is a question and I didn't want to post in a section where it would just clutter things up).
MODS, please close as you see fit. I'd guess (by the lack of productive posts) that there isn't anything out there that I haven't already found and being flamed serves no real purpose.
I will take a stab at a useful suggestion rather than bashing you for your innocent question.
The prime has had some performance gains by mounting the /data to /sd:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803252
May be something to try on the tf700.. hope that was more helpful than the snarky bashing that many posters here feel is warranted when anyone asks a question. We need to be nicer around here and if there is nothing useful for you to add to a thread... then don't post, just pm a moderator if you think the thread is not relevant.

My honest answer is that the best performance improvement will come from root/unlock/TWRP recovery and flashing Zeus Rom v4.0, now and possibly AOSP Jelly Bean or CM10 when they are ready to flash. I always find more good performance comes from custom software than from stock.
@ Jordanmw - Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look later tonight when I get home from work.
@okantomi - I think you are probably right. I unlocked the Prime shortly after getting it and just basically figured no biggie. The only reason I haven't done it with the Infinity is because it performed so poorly out of the box that my gut reaction was that it was going to have to go back... I'll probably end up doing it though.
I do seem to be making some headway on the issue. I went through and tested some slightly modified build.prop tweaks (modified compared to the tweak thread I referenced in the OP). Added a few others and started to play around with getting init.d working so I can run some other scripts during startup rather than having multiple "tweaking" programs running. Ultimately I'll probably just end up unlocking and using one of the custom roms, but in the meantime I figured it wouldn't hurt to spend a little time learning some new tricks.
Appreciate the helpful feedback guys. Also, Once I get to where I feel the Infinity is performing the way I want, I'll post what I did (giving all credit to those who's work I benefited from of course).

That would be awesome. I've just flashed the Team Baked Black Beans Infinity Jelly Bean ROM and it's really nice. Will need to do some tweaks but init.d support is build in so it should be pretty easy.
