Hey everyone,
I tried out the JustHome v11 (I ruv roo Ivanmmj!) and liked it, but I'm a bit rough on my phone and multitask / use heavily throughout the day, so I gave the JustStableV2Build5-Micro build a try. It's small memory footprint and blindingly fast speed on the Wing won me over.
However, the haptic feedback on the Windows Mobile 6.5 / JustHome v11 won me over too, but I encountered stability issues with Internet Explorer and with multitasking. I know it's an alpha build and I didn't expect it to be as good as it was (and yes, it was good), but not -quite- good enough for my own use yet.
I'd like to know if the haptic feedback is something that's juts a part of WM6.5, or if it's something that's easily installed / ported back to WM6.1, I'd -love- to have it with WM6.1.
Any clues? Thanks!
It's on my juststable and JustStableV2, also. It's just a program that I started adding to my ROMs. Search the forum for touch responce to find it.
On the obligatory side: I have to point out that you should post questions like this under the ROM itself, as it keeps the forums cleaner by not adding non-ROM development threads in the development subforum.
But yea, just search for touch responce and you'll have your answer. ^_^ It might take a while to get the frequency just right, though. Too much or too little vibration and it gets old easily.
Aaaah, touch response, not haptic feedback.

Aaaaaah, alright, sorry about that, I'll do that in the future.
I was searching the forum for "haptic feedback" and didn't come up with much.
Thanks Ivanmmj, as always!

hello all, i read the basics and trying to get my feet wet. for starters i tried setting up a profile with my info but non of my versions are on drop down lists.
i have:
siemens sx66
rom 1.33.10
radio1.02.10 (what does it do to update radio? i search for explanations but no luck)
extrom v. 1.33.110
model ph20b1
should i just enter all this in my signature?
please advise.
In the profile you can only choice from 2 devices its a limmatation of the system, most of us use the signature to pass on that info.
You have a BA and wiki is strong on the BA.
learning slowly
thanks for the response, i thought about that last night and came to that conclusion. i posted a few other things and hopefully in a relevant forum.
i continue to read how to's hopefully something will get through my thick skull.
i was going to try a radio update since it seams i can do the least harm with that one. that ok for tutorial type walk through?
i saw there is a 1.15 available.
i have no personal info on mine yet, just received it.
would it be worth while going to wm 5.0?
i was going to try to stay with 2003 for speed purposes.
thank you again for assistance, have a great day
woody
And remember the Golden Rule:
Always use the search function before asking anything.
And
Always post the links to spam in "trash"
yea, i got the main rules down, but...
that doesn't mean i have enough knowledge to know if i am posting something in the appropriate area. i'm a fairly consciencious user but with as little knowledge as i have it's a dangerous thing.
thank you all again for the help/advice/experience
gonna do my best not to get on anyone's last nerve
have a great day,
woody
Hi Woodalia!
First, welcome to the forum!
Second, don't worry too much, if you post by mistake n the wrong place people will forgive you. Just try not to post same thing in multiple forums.
As for switching form 2003 to WM5 there are a few points to consider:
1. Speed, you already know about. It might be worth waiting for a while I think there will be improvements on the issue in the future.
2. Features such as A2DP, push mail, better office apps. If you don't need those don't bother with the upgrade.
3. ActiveSync, wile you have WM2003 you can sync with versions 3.7 / 3.8 which has sync over wifi option and seems to connect a bit faster then 4.1 (no network search)
I recommend you search the BA forum for people who upgraded and can report any problems / bugs. Every update fixes some issues but creates others.
Good luck.
I bought att tilt today and want to know what's the best rom so far for it
Thanks
wow someone should post a sticky for this thread making it an example of how to piss everyone in the forum off...

wow a little harsh huh? why the sour response?
Well, Doug is probably coming from some other forum where a new "Which is the best ROM?" kind of post is started each week. It is a natural question, but it gets old after a while.
In the Hermes thread for example, there are multiple kitchens for making ROMs, so everyone and his brother are putting out new ROMs constantly that suit their needs. Asking which is the best is kind of like asking which restaurant is best in San Francisco. There are good ones and bad ones, cheap ones and expensive ones, it is all a matter of taste.
At this point though, with three or so cooked ROMs out for the Kaiser, I think it might be a valid question. Most knowledgable people will have tried all three and come to some sort of conclusion.
Yeah really ! why would this piss anybody off ?

Really, a good way to find out what's best (for you) is to try them out. I know, everyone says that. But they say it for a reason.
A great place to find out before flashing is to hop into the individual threads for the specific ROMS and read what's included in each and what comments (good and bad) have been posted. There's only a few ROMs out at the moment, so that won't be hard at all.
Usually when anyone starts a thread like this they just want someone to throw out an easy "The best ROM is...". I am personally using the HTC stock at the moment. I like it for now, others don't. So, you'll have to decide for yourself.
Have fun finding out!

My issue with the question is that if there truly was a "best ROM so far" available, it would be posted as such and probably stickied. The point is that there is no BEST, even with only 3 of them out there. Each is different.
I've tried all three ROMs and seem to be about the same. Only differences are the apps included, and storage space. Check them out and see for yourself.
Kaiser Roms, which is best?
I spent the last two days testing out all the variants of the ROMS out there, and there are pretty much only 4 English versions available.
Here you go, a nice summary of the results in one quick read, but i've not included the links to the files, some work for you
1. the stock HTC one - RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.exe (uses WM6 CE OS 5.2.1620)
and then 3 or so (because he has sub versions to remove unnecessary programs) variants of the same ROM by Helmi:
2. helmi_Kaiser_1.57.000.1_AKU.0.7.0.Cooked.exe - a cooked version based on HTC WWE version but has newer WM6 CE base code (WM6 CE OS 5.2.1908)
3. Helmi_Kaiser_1.57.00.02_AKU.0.7.0.Cooked.exe - another cooked version of HTC_WWE version but has selectable "activator" directory of cabs that the user can install as desired. Also uses same WM6 CE OS 5.2.1908 as above.
4. Helmi_Kaiser_1.57.00.03_AKU.0.7.0.Cooked.exe - yet another flavour, but this one has virtually all extra programs removed in a good attempt at freeing up as much memory as possible, it also uses a newer version of WM6 CE OS 5.2.1921.
see Helmi's link for all the info. My hats off to you Helmi.
In the end, I decided to go with the standard version as released by HTC, as I didn't notice much of a difference myself. I have naturally upgraded various cabs and installed my ideal base set of apps to get the machine setup as I prefer. My decision to go this way was based on what I prefer and you should really try the ROMS yourself to make the correct decision, I didn't try every program with each version so perhaps i missed things.
I upgraded the Radio to version 1.27.12.17. -(this doesn't appear to make any difference to my terrible radio reception or the random dropping off of the radio link to GSM, neither does selecting the gsm option under band instead of auto). Thank god that I don't use 3G as there seems to be a real problem with the UMTS radio code. I just hope that I don't have a hardware fault, but I doubt it as numerous other people and links reflect similar issues to mine. We can only hope that HTC will release new RADIO code soon.
So, I wish you well in your endeavor to find "the perfect ROM".....
While I wouldn't have posted "best rom" question (as I agree, that is so subjective), that is a great help SAppie! Thanks!
Agree and Disagree
Not wanting to piss everyone off
I think the OP was requesting ROM test result and comparison, like SAppie comment, as I also agree there's no such thing as 'best ROM'.
Now, there're release with WM6.5 and others. Anyone can update this with newer ROM's comparison?
As a newbie in WM myself, some of the thread has 1000 pages .. to read all will be tough, but sometimes that's the only way. The FAQ and sticky is helpful as starting point for me ..
well i tried athineos os, hyperdragon III, life in 3d and now i will try 6.5 beta but so far the fastest is the athineos and it greaat
This is an old topic with no real constructive merit, so I'm closing it.
Perhaps this thread is what you're after: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399510
Thanks

Is there a list of ROMs anywhere or can could people tell me what is available? I have spent hours and hours searching the Internet, searching this forum and I have only come up with a few and I know there has to be more than what I am finding.
The main reason I want different ROM is because I don't want my Tilt to lock up with my bluetooth anymore and hopefully my sound won't disappear making me reboot to get it back. Everything else is a bonus.
So any help is appreciated before I drive myself more insane than I already am.
(and no, I don't want to know which one is the best, I will figure that out on my own )
I really doubt you've searched, because there was a recent thread attempt to list them, and you'd have known about our WIKI.
We do not give out handouts. Put in the EFFORT.
Your phone shouldn't be locking up often with the stock ROM. If it is, there's probably something wrong with it or your bluetooth device or some crummy software you've got on it.

Put in the effort? I have been doing this for 3 days now and have been up until 2:00 in the morning trying to do all of this and I get a message like this? I have never had someone be like that to me on a forum. Unbelievable. Nothing like being helpful.
Please do me a favor and close this, I would rather spend my days searching instead of this crap.
I flash roms more often then a Trench-coat wearing man in a70's porno I normally end up on blackstone, PDA ultimate or the vista one all three IMHO are rock soild stable and feature packed if you read the wiki which is sticked at the stop of this forum you will learn all you need to learn about unlocking the wiki also contains the links to all the patched and bug fixes as well as a huge number of add-on's
Closed, follow suggestions, read the wiki for Kaiser it has a comprehensive list of avaliable stock & cooked Roms.
Hi guys,
so, as there are some possibilities, and the question arised, here's a little poll for you.
It's about how developers and users/testers of Android should best communicate.
Quick overview:
This thread has 4k+ entries now, but many people are watching it. It's more like an IRC channel, though.
The Linux-To-Go site has 4 different trackers (bugs, patches, support, feature requests), and a news system and a little bit more. Sometimes it is quite slow, but since they've just got a new sponsor, I think they're working out how to distribute the load.
I have already asked whether we can have a subforum, and the site admin seemed positive about it, but wanted to see into which directions the Mod's discussions were.
If you have a better idea, please post!
Stefan
I prefer the googlecode bugtracker, since the most people dosnt need to create an new account, it is simple but powerfull. And the ui looks much better then the Linux-To-Go one.
Looks like guys here voting mostly for just subforum. May I suggest in this case that there would be few sticky topics for guides/overall discussion and the rest is topic per bug type-o-thing? Someone would be a moderator, of course.
it doesn't even matter what we / you think - the only votes that matter are the ones of the developers.
git seems to work quite well for developing - if ltg is too slow - it shouldn't be a problem to clone it to a faster repo elsewhere (afaik there's already a faster one in place - can't remember the address) - also after the initial setup it doesn't really matter how slow it is anymore (unless you don't know how to use git and constantly start over from scratch).
As for bugtracking - are there developers interested in bugtracking? I think they're well aware of what needs work.
(e.g. for Polaris it's documented in the wiki)
What we really need at the moment is kernel developers for various devices.
just my 2 ¢
Tip
I don't dislike the idea of a full thread as it was...but i feel we should split threats into 50 posts. After could be "Part II" , "Part III"...etc.
Hugs

Actually, I suggested a bug tracker, even for developers-internal use because then one can see what the other devs are working on and that one doesn't have to care about the problem...
More developers would be good, of course!!

There is more to it. First, more eyes will be able to find more bugs. Second, bug tracker allows instead of keeping all bugs in head, constantly trying to remember them all, keep in head only one on which working currently, while the rest is recorded in database according to their priority. No one has superhuman memory. Also, bugtracking important because people generally happier with product that is with not too many features but robust rather than product with whole bunch of awesomeness but also hosting whole hive of bugs. Here's good article on bugtracking.
Thanks MooNWalker. Seems we should try to push a bit more for a subforum, and use the bugtracker for the reasons you said. We should see if the LTG one can be extended so that people will not have to sign up in order to make contributions. The site itself seems fast right now.
Stefan
Ok, we will try with the bugtracker.
Go here to see the bugs and to enter new ones.
Stefan
@seidler2547: Can you change something there? It is currently not obvious that this is the bugtracker for Kaiser Android. You have to know that this is the right place there. If i was new here and i what to fast post a bug, i will be very confused if the bugtracker is the right one.
Hi lanwin, dzo set up the tracker name. Anyway, it is a bit cryptic because it is not only for Kaiser Android. It is for running Linux (and with it Android) on MSM7x00 devices, that is Kaiser, Nike, Polaris, Vogue and so on. We have a common hardware base, so we coordinate our development. You know you're on the right bug tracker because -> the link here says so, and -> this is the only one in mobile-linux you can report bugs without logging in
Having said that, we can think about the name nevertheless. What do you suggest?
Stefan
Hi Stefan, yep i know that but a non technical user wouldn't do. Even if it is ugly, i suggest "Android for Kaiser, Nike, Polaris, Vogue (MSM7x00)".
Anyway, thanks for bringing Android for this platforms forward!
new sub forum
i think a sub forum is good because it will allow for more specific threads.
it will also allow us to get an rss feed of all things android
finally, can't the current long thread just be moved into the sub-forum? no one will be forced to start or look at new threads, but it will be there.
Does it really affect anything in a negative way or preclude the other options?
Android development is only going to pickup, and i expect we will see a corresponding drop off in WM.
Lets think about what the development scene is going to look like in 2 years... even after we've all moved on from our current phones.
The question is: Can/Should/Will xda-devs be the place for android development too?

Put link to bugtracker in Android on HTC wiki. Might be helpfull to put it in first post on main thread.
I think this bugtracker was for the full Android port, but it seems that it is only for the kernel so all my bugs are closed with "This is not related to this project (Linux kernel for mobile devices) but to the google android user space and must hence be moved.".
Where to report user spaces related bugs?
That is a good question. I have seen the close, but I'm not too happy with it, although I understand the reasons. Maybe we need to make an extra google bugtracker, as someone suggested.
Stefan
I think the original android post has really become quite cumbersome, I voted for a subforum but I don't really care as long as I am able to see what is going on. The old post has become unorganized there are a bunch of different sites and stuff on that post to get builds and kernels and what not from and I have become somewhat confused with it all. I am curious though as to how many people are actually working on this at our end the only one I see actively posting is seidler is dzo or polypoly still working on it. I'm having problems getting some of the files required listed on source.android.com fiqured I would give it a wack, probly a short wack.

This was me I am against a sub forum. Forums are very bad in cases of a bugtracking functionality because there is no bug management available and users tend to use one thread for bug reporting, questions and discussion where it is really hard to find out the bugs for the devs.
I think there should only be one bugtracker for the users because the most of them can not distinguish between user space and kernel space bugs and requests.
I suggest to open a user friendly google code bugtracker and some of the devs move bugs related to kernel space over to the other bugtracker.
Yesterday, i've installed these 2 apps in hopes of improving my battery life on my HTC Touch Pro. However, not only did both not work or has no effect, but it also screwed up my fone, VERY BADLY.
These are the apps:
http://mobile.dlugosz.net.pl/Products/BatteryGuard/tabid/59/Default.aspx
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
I'm not saying they're crap or anything, but they just don't work for me and screwed up my fone so i'm just posting this as a warning for you guys. Also, i hope someone has a solution to this, coz right now my only solution is to do a hard reset.
The problems i get is that the screen rotation doesn't work anymore when i slide out the hardware keyboard, also when i press the power button, it doesn't turn the screen off. I haven't changed the function that the power on button is assigned to, so by default it should turn the screen off and i like it so i kept it that way. But now, it doesn't turn off.
What's worse, is that shutdown and soft reset don't work at all, i have to pull out the battery to turn it off.
And even worse, it drained my battery from 100% to about 10% in less than 2 hours when i have everything off. It pissed me off so bad. I dunno if anyone else have the same problem as me but for those of you who haven't tried it yet, be warned.
And btw, i'm using a HTC Touch Pro GSM version so it works with the programs as stated in the instructions in those topics.
What phone are you using?
This is what this app has to say:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
NOTICE: This software is only for the GSM variants of these devices: MSM7xxx based devices, Samsung i900 Omnia, Samsung i780 !!
NOTICE: This is a pre-alpha testing version. It's not nearly close to ready for full-time use. This topic is primarily to discuss possibilities... Code is proof-of-concept stage. You should NOT run this app fulltime!
This might have been the source of your problems.
Please learn to read be4 u post, I stated my phone model at the start and end of the sentence, dunno how u could've missed that....but i'll say it again, i'm using HTC Touch Pro GSM version.
And in the topic, it said this, u didn't read properly again.
Device list
This program is known to work on, GSM versions only:
HTC Touch Cruise (Polaris)
HTC TyTN II (Kaiser)
HTC Touch Diamond
HTC Touch Pro (Raphael)
HTC Touch HD
HTC Touch Diamond II (Topaz)

dude, come on what is it with you?
I appreciate your not saying the apps crap but seriously why start a thread to warn people about what the app did to your phone?
Yes that is slagging of the app and putting the guy who created this down- chainfire works his ****ing ass off- creating stuff and giving back to the community. It's people like him that keep this community going, and have you seen the donation stars next to his name????
Threads like this will just get people like chainfire and other to say "**** it" why bother.
Man the right way to go about this would have been to post on that thread, what it did to your device. help him learn so he can better his device application - that post is on the general forum, what you think they are going to come to this thread to read you winge?
an a closing note- anything you flash/install/copy onto/throw at your device has a chance of crashing it, or even bricking it. If you cant be asked doing a hard reset if something goes wrong, go buy an iphone! they never crash or bump out..............
what you should do is go onto that thread and thank him for his hard work....
il even go and do it.
i think the Raphael uses less battery on 3G standby than 2G standby... just my usage so far indicates that

Because posting a reply in a topic that has over 50 pages is just tedious and annoying. People won't read every page and reply to the questions and it's important problems/bugs that i experienced that should be best post in a new topic to let people know. I never said his apps are crap, i'm just posting this as a warning to let others know as not everyone will read through every page of his topic, and not everything posted in his topic are related to bugs/problems either, some are just suggestions etc.
It's like trying to go through pages after pages of replies in the Rom Development topics, it's very annoying. I find a lot of questions unanswered in those topics coz after just 1 hour or so, new replies are added and the page is then updated up to 4 pages more and it's just plain annoying. Nobody answers all the questions in topics like that and it's just pointless.
And as a matter of fact, i've installed heaps of stuff on my fone and this is the first app to cause this problem. Even the chinese fonts etc didn't cause me any problems, and they're the most easiest ways to brick a fone.
Lastly, I did not in anyway try to "slag" the app or disrespect the creator of w/e, i appreciate his work and i get that heaps of ppl support him etc etc, but i'm merely posting this problem just to warn ppl, as well as hoping for a solution because it's quicker to get responds in a new topic anyway.
But i already got it solved by updating to a new rom, and luckily, the Energy Rom was updated 2 days ago so i needed the update anyway.
Did u notice the first line of the post?
Note this is a BETA version and will have issues.
Also, did you search that thread for your issues? maybe someone else has experienced them and found solutions.
Maybe your issues are caused by a combination of apps that you have installed making it a rare case.
I'm just saying its not right to go and blast these apps when there are a bunch of people using them and not experiencing the problems your having.
I support "chaoscreater"
I support "chaoscreater" because of what he answered:
- He did not post it on a thread that is too long and probably the message will not get to who it was supposed to go to .... US USERS that COULD end up BRICKING OUR phones and loosing our time.
- So this way people can be aware through a BETTER WARNING.
- Last ....... "chaoscreater" you should post it in the thread so the developer can work it and improved it.
So no harm, just he missed to mention if he did or did not post it in the APP thread.
Do not bug him for being responsible.
Uhh! and THANK YOU FOR THE WARNING.
