Gorilla Glass? - Milestone XT720 General

Well I've tried searching for this on google and on many sites and Motorola's serviceone isn't picking up in my country. I'm using the XT720 from Singapore's Starhub (blue back cover)
So I'm wondering does this phone have gorilla glass? I really want to take out the screen protector considering how sharp this screen is without it.
Anyone have confirmation?

khalpowers has a video on youtube of him trying to scratch his with some scissors. just search xt720 gorrilla glass. im pretty sure it has it and im pretty sure i remember seeing xt720 on gorrilla glass's website also.

Yes, I can confirm you that XT720 has a Gorilla Glass (or at least, some kind of really strong scratch resistant glass). The screen is very durable and can resist of any scratch to the surface.
you don't need to apply normal screen protector to the phone, but in case you don't like the reflective glare from the direct light and smudgy fingerprints, you can apply matte screen protector.

Great thanks alot all of you guys haha, I really wanna enjoy my screen's quality without having the matte protector bring it down.

The below is M's reply.
Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I’ve reviewed your e-mail dated 20/02/2011 02.41 AM and I’m ready to help.
We apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you. Motorola Milestone XT like other Motorola Android phones has Gorilla Glass. However, please note that this is scratch resistant only. This doesn’t suggest that it is scratch proof and shock proof. It is still recommended to take good care of the phone and keep it away from any impacts as much as possible.
We appreciate your patience and understanding on this matter.

Weird that I never read anything about it though.

WARNING i had taken my screen protector off for like a week now to see the real beauty of the screen and now bunch of baby hair line scratchs. just throwing that out there so better safe than sorry. so time to put my replacement zagg screen protector on god i hate zagg

I've been using the XT720 for 2 months without any kind of screen protectors, no scratches of any kind yet...
It is Gorilla Glass ( Not as strong as the one found in the DEFY tho.

Well, i had take off the screen protection and after 2 weeks now i have 2 scratch, so thin but anyways i don't want scratch my screen. Now i have a invisible shield screen protector, but it not feels the same, i really like how the screen feels without any screen protection, but, well, what else can i do?

Any experience with any of the other clarivue screen protectors (anti glare, mirror, or privacy)? If so, what were your impressions of them?
i just use the gorilla glass, dont like the feel of the screen with a protector on. Also, with this nice plastic case i got from best buy, the phone can never land on the screen if dropped.

I havent used any of those other ones, i've read good things about anti glare and ultra clear. but havent heard anything positive or negative about the others.
also, i have used a generic mirror screen on my hero before, makes the phone look nice when its off, however horrible to use in daylight and also screen brightness has to be all the way up so kills battery

I'd like to do this too, I absolutely love the feel and look of the phone without a screen protector. But I am too worried about scratches. I keep hearing people say things like it's Gorilla Glass and can't scratch. I watched the videos where people attempt to scratch the Gorilla Glass screen on purpose and can't. But every once in a while I read a comment from someone that says they got a scratch on their Gorilla Glass screen and they have no idea how. I'm not sure what to think.
Got my clarivue today, installed easy, can barely tell its there and doesn't mess with capacitive buttons on bottom.

Is gorilla glass what the screen is made of? 'Cuz I scratched mine. :-( My accessories were in the mail but I went out on a My Tracks expedition on a local hiking trail over the long weekend (couldn't resist! I've never had GPS on a phone) and I dropped my phone and it got scratched on what must've been a pebble in the otherwise softish dirt trail.
More accurately, my phone fell out of my pocket when I jumped thinking a spider landed on my head.
Received my clarivue screen protectors in the mail today and I am less than impressed with them.

It's not the quality of the screen protector itself that I have problem with. It is completely clear (as described) and has a nice feel to the touch. Not the same silky smoothness as glass obviously, but not a rubbery feel to it either.
The overall cut and fitment of the screen protector is my biggest problem with it. Clarivue says that all their screen protectors are cut slightly small (which is fine) but the design for the epic isn't centered properly. If you align the top correctly (so that the front facing camera and sensors are exposed) you will find that the entire screen protector favors the right hand side of the phone. This leaves you with a noticeable gap on the left side and practically no gap on the right side.
I also encountered some installation issues since the second tab did not want to separate from the screen protector. I wouldn't hold that against clarivue however, but in my case I had to physically separate them which caused the corner to not adhere to the screen properly.
I'm going to contact clarivue about these issues on monday and see what they have to say about it. I've heard good things about seidio's ultimate screen guard and will mostly like order a pair of them when they become available.
I had one custom fitted at a mall near me for 9 dollars. I really cant tell its there and it add to the feel of the screen (less greasy/finger marks).
i have a tiny scratch and have no idea what it's from. I assume it was a rivet on my jeans or some****, kinda disappointed since I've checked out people trying to scratch the screen but couldn't

[Q] Screen Protector

Since the M2 has Gorilla Glass...is it necessary to have a screen protector on it?
Sent from my MotoA953 using XDA Premium App
Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936911.
Personally I haven't use protector for M1 and don't use it for M2 as well. Newer had any issue without it.
There isn't a need to apply a screen protector for m2 since it has gorilla glass.
The only instance which i think you would need a screen protector is if you carry your m2 in a pocketful of nails, which isn't probably the brightest idea.
Go ahead and youtube for gorilla glass, there's plenty of video of the gorilla glass being able to take plenty of abuse
OK cool. I guess screen protectors are pretty much uselss on a GG screen.
theres really no point using a screen protector on gorilla glass screen as many have said. however if u still want too, spend a few dollars getting one that will not affect the sensitivity of the screen
personally speaking, i never had a screen protector on my X1, and that didnt have GG, and it help up very well to my daily abuse for 2 years, hence i didnt bother getting one for my MS2

honestly speaking mate, no scratches at all. the rest of the phone is in pretty bad shape ie chips and dents and cracks but the screen is as good as new
I use screen protectors for ALL/ANY phone, "Gorilla Glass" or not, seen as I believe all phone screens can get scratched one way or another. Also, I found dat they never effect the functionality of da phone, and in some cases improve it, for example on da Xperia X10 & original Milestone. Gonna check out "Gorilla Glass" on YouTube anyway doe.

There not a urgent need to use screen protector due to the gorilla glass but does have some advantages:
- fingerprint free screen protector such as those from steinheil reduces the need to keep wiping your phone. I used both the crystal clear and the fingerprint free version, and personally really like the fingerprint free one although it does "blur" the display a little bit but only if I hold the phone right up to my face.
- the gorilla glass could still shatter, depending on the angle of fall. I know someone who had his screen shattered, but still continues to use it cracks and all. and it's still okay because the screen protector kept the screen in shape and protects the sliding fingers from the cracks.
I have an OtterBox screen protector on my device and it works flawlessly. I also have a Skinomi on reserve, so when I need to replace the OtterBox screen protector, I can. But Skinomi is by far the best on the market as of right now.
I must be unlucky then, cause having my ms2 in my pocket (with nothing in it) and pulled it out to find a small scratch - now have about 3 or more decent scratches on the screen. I've had it fall face down on pebbles and come out wthout a single scratch, but apparently lint and cotton are lethal for it... go figure :S.

so far I have used milestone 2 for more than one year ,there is not any scars in the screen
so I think there is no need to buy the screen protector just use the phone with care
I had Milestone 1 for a year with no scratches on the Gorilla glass.so it is not necessary to buy a screen protector for M 2.
I dont use screen protector too... But i want some good case on my MM2... Do you have a case? Any to recomend?

yeah, i was looking for a case/screen protector but i couldn't find any to fit it,

Screen protectors? Gorilla glass?

A long time ago I saw news for this phone that it uses gorilla glass.. is it true?
Because I just got the phone and the screen protector on it sucks. Thick, a bit fuzzy, and makes it less sensitive. I am seriously tempted to pull it off right now.
Has anyone gone without screen protectors? and how are your screens?
Gorilla glass or not, it's still wise to put a layer of protection on the display. It is scratch resistant but not scratch proof.
Am using a matte, anti-fingerprint screen protector and have no problem with screen sensitivity.

i would say yes
Last year while skiing I fell tearing open my jacket and spilling my HTC Hero onto the slope (unannounced to me) where it slid down the piste face down until a kindly Spaniard found it and returned it to me.
The body itself all around the screen had been ground away, but the entirely unprotected screen was utterly untouched.
Within moments of getting my Desire S up and running I had it knocked out of my hand by a friendly dog, it landed face down in gravel. Once again there was not a mark on it.
The only time I should have used a screen protector was on my old P800 with its soft resistive screen.
The moral of the story, screen protectors for capacitive screens are the biggest con in the world. Just don't keep your phone in a bag full of diamonds or anything.

Out of interest which protector are you using?
wow, that post and story makes me want to rip the screen protector off even more. other than seeing a lot of cracked screens, i havent really heard off scratched htc screens.
videos like this help too:
http://techielobang.com/blog/2009/1...-test-for-htc-hd2-feel-the-pain-video-within/
but i guess it's this paranoia.. one scratch will ruin it forever..
i disagree, i was realy carefull not to sscratch my phone around the house why i was waiting for my screen protector off ebay, but ive ended up with a hairline scratch on the screen. You can only see it at certain angles and when a protector on you cant see it but i would recomend a screen protector to keep it safe as the smallest thing can ruin it.
I'm a nudist. Trusted Gorilla Glass on my previous Nokia C6-01. And trusting it on the Desire S. I don't have a protector case either.
When I moved from resistive touch sensors (Windows Mobile) to capacitive (HTC Hero), I stopped using screen protectors. Well, it turns out that the screen doesn't scratch badly, it's very tough, but after months using it hairline scratches do appear, although they are only visible with the light at certain angle.
So I once again I use screen protectors. This way when it's time to sell my current device to get a new one, the screen is 100% perfect. And I don't worry much if I have to clean the screen with my shirt.
I just bought invisiblesheild from zagg.com. I also got a 25% voucher if anyone wants it? not sure if it includes all items in store
however the contact actually covers the camera and sensor/light which does worry me a bit. I was given a chinese brand one which had a dip so the film didnt cover the camera. but it was crap, but the design was better

Totally with you on the protector case as well. Why buy a beautiful slim phone and then make it fat and ugly by fitting a case?
That said, I have ordered a case but intend to treat it like a condom and only put it on when I need it.
That way, next time I try to impress a girl by falling face first down a mountain, my phone at least will remain unblemished.
C'mon people, liberate yourselves, take it all off! Your phone is a beautiful thing, don't hide it away!
Buy a sock... or some small bag. I don't really see any reason to have it packed when you are using it (if you are not playing sports with it).

I find that the best advice for phone protection is simply not to use the device when you had a few beers (or several!)
I have two scratches on the outside of my desire s and both are caused by drinking related accidents! I see a direct correlation between phone damage and UK bank holidays !
Luckily the curved raised lower lip of this phone means that when dropped you have to be quite unlucky to scratch its face!
it sure has gorilla glass as you can find in the official site of gorilla glass

i found a test about the hardness of the screen on mp3 players i think it may be useful as i have seen many people asking if a screen protector is required
http://anythingbutipod.com/2009/04/glass-screen-durability-test-a-lesson-on-the-mohs-hardness-scale/
i myself use a screen protector as i am scared that sand may scratch it...
but mine does not reduce the touch sensitivity or the clearness of the screen but it seems to be a fingerprint magnet...
iv seen a hammer and a knife ....
ITS ALLMOST UNBREAKABLE Gorilla glass.

lol I went without screen protectors for a couple for weeks. was very happy, the screen looked vibrant and sharp.
but lo and behold! today I found a tiny scratch. Probably my own stupid mistake, I put it in my bag without the case, even though i had a case for it in the bag.
but it's ok though. Not really obvious unless you try to look for it. when the screen is lit up, its pretty much nonexistent. Plus.. electronic objects will go out of date someday right

Gorilla glass + screen protector?

Quick question. This is my first gorilla glass device. I'm a device freak and need my g2x to stay in perfect condition. I haven't taken the screen protector off since I got it (23.)
I want to know if the screen protector is necessary and if so does it produce extra glare? (Its great right now in direct sunlight... but still...)
Also... does it prevent fingerprints without one? If not can I use rainx on it? (It works on my gtablet)

So my last phone had Gorilla Glass. I kept it in my pocket with keys and such, and dropped it pretty much monthly. After 18 months, the glass was pristine even as the rest of the phone was beat to hell. So I posted somewhere on this forum, in response to a question much like yours, that there's probably no need for a screen protector if you have Gorilla Glass. Except that I already have a scratch on my screen, and am going to be getting screen protectors for my G2x.
Shorter: Gorilla Glass is great, but not impervious.
After some more googleing its not gorilla glass (but it's something else like it dragon?) But does the g2x get fingerprints?

I don't use a screen protector myself...but fair warning, if you can turn your pockets inside out and find tiny grains of sand in 'em you might want to get a screen protector. Sand can and will scratch glass. I live in Kansas so it's kind of a non-issue for me.
a screen protector is always a good first line of defense. It's also cheap. A lot better than spending a lot of money replacing a scratched screen (if you're nit-picky about it)

There are a lot of videos on youtube with people trying to scratch the optimus 2x & G2x. That being said, it's an inherent property of glass that allows it not to be scratched by metals. Explanation here.
I will say though, if you phone falls out of your pocket while riding a bike and skids on the pavement face down, the glass will get scratched like hell. I don't know if a screen protector would have helped, but I now have one on my new phone just in case.

For me, it's to get rid of the reflections off that shiny glass screen and reduce the icky fingerprints and smudges. I keep my phone in a belt case, so I'm not worried about scratches, but an anti-glare screen protector sure makes it easier to see what's on the screen.

Liquid screen protector

I've been thinking ahead to when I'll get my Nex (hopefully soon) and I'm remembering all the problems I had with my Mi Mix trying to get a decent screen protector.
The glass ones never covered the full screen and the film ones always peeled off because of the bezelless nature of the design.
In the end, after many false starts, I tried a liquid screen protector and it's been brilliant.
After a number of months there are no signs of scratches on the screen, even though the ceramic back (which is supposed to be more scratch resistant) has noticeable marks.
This is the particular brand I used but I'm sure there are other similar quality options out there.
Just figured you'd all want to know this is an option and a good one at that.

I'm a fan of the liquid screen protectors as well.
I think I take better care of my phones than the average person, based on casual observations,& don't feel the need for a film or TGSP.
Regardless, it's difficult to prove a negative, but, in my usage, I've never had a scratch after applying one of the coatings. No, they don't last forever, as neither do screen protectors made of film or glass.
One advantage of the liquid sealers is you don't have to deal with dirt/grit collecting along the edges of a typical protector.
This phone, the NEX, ships with a pre-installed screen protector (& a clear skin on the back, a very nice touch). As soon as the film on the display side begins to show signs of peeling/collecting dirt on the edges, it's coming right off & I'll be applying one of the many sealers available, this time being the brand Liquid Nano 9H.

To each their own, I can only offer up an opinion based on my personal experience.
And saying 'Get a decent screen protector', whilst a valid sentiment, isn't always possible.
As I mentioned, there's a total lack of quality accessories for the original Mi Mix and Xiaomi are definitely a more established brand than Vivo, so it could easily prove to be more of a challenge for the Nex.

It covers almost the whole body, back and sides as well. Just received the full body protectors a couple of days back and seem to be perfect. The self-healing technology of the films, as claimed, will take even the harshest scratches, though I haven't tested yet. The thin film is virtually invisible when applied on my new device.

I haven't received it yet. And it's not a tempered glass. It's a flexible plastic one.
I received it. Firstly, the disappointing part was, there was no solution. But I've had a spare one from other protector. I used it. The sad part is, the back protector doesn't stick well throughout. There are some small bubbles that I am hoping will disappear after 24 hours. The touch is nice, but it's a film, not a tempered glass.
