I've been thinking ahead to when I'll get my Nex (hopefully soon) and I'm remembering all the problems I had with my Mi Mix trying to get a decent screen protector.
The glass ones never covered the full screen and the film ones always peeled off because of the bezelless nature of the design.
In the end, after many false starts, I tried a liquid screen protector and it's been brilliant.
After a number of months there are no signs of scratches on the screen, even though the ceramic back (which is supposed to be more scratch resistant) has noticeable marks.
This is the particular brand I used but I'm sure there are other similar quality options out there.
Just figured you'd all want to know this is an option and a good one at that.

I'm a fan of the liquid screen protectors as well.
I think I take better care of my phones than the average person, based on casual observations,& don't feel the need for a film or TGSP.
Regardless, it's difficult to prove a negative, but, in my usage, I've never had a scratch after applying one of the coatings. No, they don't last forever, as neither do screen protectors made of film or glass.
One advantage of the liquid sealers is you don't have to deal with dirt/grit collecting along the edges of a typical protector.
This phone, the NEX, ships with a pre-installed screen protector (& a clear skin on the back, a very nice touch). As soon as the film on the display side begins to show signs of peeling/collecting dirt on the edges, it's coming right off & I'll be applying one of the many sealers available, this time being the brand Liquid Nano 9H.

Save your money. This stuff is nearly worthless. (Read the 1star reviews...). It does nothing to protect against serious scratches or cracked screens. Get a decent screen protector and a case if you care about your phone.

To each their own, I can only offer up an opinion based on my personal experience.
And saying 'Get a decent screen protector', whilst a valid sentiment, isn't always possible.
As I mentioned, there's a total lack of quality accessories for the original Mi Mix and Xiaomi are definitely a more established brand than Vivo, so it could easily prove to be more of a challenge for the Nex.

If it is for Wet Protectors, I will definitely go for GadgetShieldz. Having tried many screen protectors, my top pick now would be of Gadgetshieldz. It covers almost the whole body, back and sides as well. Just received the full body protectors a couple of days back and seem to be perfect. The self-healing technology of the films, as claimed, will take even the harshest scratches, though I haven't tested yet. The thin film is virtually invisible when applied on my new device.

I haven't received it yet. And it's not a tempered glass. It's a flexible plastic one.
I received it. Firstly, the disappointing part was, there was no solution. But I've had a spare one from other protector. I used it. The sad part is, the back protector doesn't stick well throughout. There are some small bubbles that I am hoping will disappear after 24 hours. The touch is nice, but it's a film, not a tempered glass.

Any experience with any of the other clarivue screen protectors (anti glare, mirror, or privacy)? If so, what were your impressions of them?
i just use the gorilla glass, dont like the feel of the screen with a protector on. Also, with this nice plastic case i got from best buy, the phone can never land on the screen if dropped.

I havent used any of those other ones, i've read good things about anti glare and ultra clear. but havent heard anything positive or negative about the others.
also, i have used a generic mirror screen on my hero before, makes the phone look nice when its off, however horrible to use in daylight and also screen brightness has to be all the way up so kills battery

I'd like to do this too, I absolutely love the feel and look of the phone without a screen protector. But I am too worried about scratches. I keep hearing people say things like it's Gorilla Glass and can't scratch. I watched the videos where people attempt to scratch the Gorilla Glass screen on purpose and can't. But every once in a while I read a comment from someone that says they got a scratch on their Gorilla Glass screen and they have no idea how. I'm not sure what to think.
Got my clarivue today, installed easy, can barely tell its there and doesn't mess with capacitive buttons on bottom.

Is gorilla glass what the screen is made of? 'Cuz I scratched mine. :-( My accessories were in the mail but I went out on a My Tracks expedition on a local hiking trail over the long weekend (couldn't resist! I've never had GPS on a phone) and I dropped my phone and it got scratched on what must've been a pebble in the otherwise softish dirt trail.
More accurately, my phone fell out of my pocket when I jumped thinking a spider landed on my head.
Received my clarivue screen protectors in the mail today and I am less than impressed with them.

It's not the quality of the screen protector itself that I have problem with. It is completely clear (as described) and has a nice feel to the touch. Not the same silky smoothness as glass obviously, but not a rubbery feel to it either.
The overall cut and fitment of the screen protector is my biggest problem with it. Clarivue says that all their screen protectors are cut slightly small (which is fine) but the design for the epic isn't centered properly. If you align the top correctly (so that the front facing camera and sensors are exposed) you will find that the entire screen protector favors the right hand side of the phone. This leaves you with a noticeable gap on the left side and practically no gap on the right side.
I also encountered some installation issues since the second tab did not want to separate from the screen protector. I wouldn't hold that against clarivue however, but in my case I had to physically separate them which caused the corner to not adhere to the screen properly.
I'm going to contact clarivue about these issues on monday and see what they have to say about it. I've heard good things about seidio's ultimate screen guard and will mostly like order a pair of them when they become available.
I had one custom fitted at a mall near me for 9 dollars. I really cant tell its there and it add to the feel of the screen (less greasy/finger marks).
i have a tiny scratch and have no idea what it's from. I assume it was a rivet on my jeans or some****, kinda disappointed since I've checked out people trying to scratch the screen but couldn't

I don't use screen protectors on any phone with gorilla glass. It's basically unnecessary. It's virtually impossible to scratch the screen unless you really make the effort.
Remember, it's glass. Why not take a fork and try your best to scratch a window made of glass. It can't be done.
Peter
I get where you're coming from Peter but just because you don't want screen protectors doesn't mean you shouldn't try and contribute to someone who does. My Captivate had gorilla glass and it has plenty of scratches just because of grit. It happens, no matter what.
However, Ultra Fine is just going to be super clear, and Ultra Oleophobic will do it's best to keep finger prints from showing/building up.

I used to use screen protectors all the time until my nexus one, had that phone for 2 years with plenty of abuse, including at least 4 good drops, one in a cement underground parking floor with a small kick and slide for good measure, my hart stooped on that one! still not a scratch on that phone.
so i did not get one for my galaxy nexus, dropped it once while kneeling on the flatbed of a tow truck, not a very far drop at all, and got 1 nasty looking scratch and 3 minor ones! ruined my day, week even i still look at it and get sad.
i have no idea what glass is in the galaxy nexus, but to me it was very easy to scratch, if i can find a screen protector for the xl that is not annoying to look at i will probable start using one.
just sayin

Any minute particle of sand will scratch gorilla glass without exception.
You are 1) being irresponsible, 2) promoting those irresponsible ideas to others.
Gorilla glass is not scratch proof by any means. It has barely higher hardness compared to normal borosilicate glass, and it's far softer than sand.

True, its all a matter of personal choice. There is a tiny change in the feel when you use a screen protector, and some don't like it. If a person chooses not to use a screen protector, and willing to live with scratches (if they do occur) then that's totally up to them. If someone scratches the screen, and claims the GG as "defective", then I suppose that is irresponsible (as there is not advertised guarantee against scratches).
That said, GG is far from impossible to scratch. Its intended to be scratch resistant, but can still be scratched (and even cracked). Coming from another device with GG, I can tell you that I have seen many cases of people that got scratches after normal use, and no obvious instances of abuse, drops, etc. And if you remember when the iPhone first came out with GG, there were also plenty of instances of people getting scratches almost immediately after release. On the other hand, plenty of people have had good luck with no scratches on GG, even after serious drops, etc. A bit of luck is certainly at play. But if you don't use a screen protector, and end up with a scratch, you can't easily undo it. IMO, its better to use a protector, and not have to worry about such regret.
A good quality screen protector has very minimal change in feel (although there is a very slight difference) no change in look, and will also attract fingerprints and smudges a bit less than the "naked" screen. Cheap ones are not worthwhile, and often look and feel much worse, and can start peeling off easily. Some people that are against protectors, may be due to experience with a cheap one. Bodguardz and Skinomi are quality ones that I have used, and there are plenty of other good ones.
Hey guys, this topic was started to answer a mans question about the difference between two types of screen protectors not borosilicate and gorilla glass. I feel that this topic should be A. closed if nothing good is to be added, or B. put back on topic for the benefit of OP.
okay, i'll knock his question out really quick...
the Ultra Fine (Anti-fingerprint) is a matte type of screen protector. because it is matte, it's going to degrade the colors a little bit. they won't be as vibrant as without this particular protector.
the Ultra Oleo is a clear screen protector. approx 100% of the colors will still come through as if you didn't have this one on. it's made to be resistant to fingerprints, though the Ultra Fine is going to do a far better job of keeping fingerprints off.
so, you have to ask yourself this...
do you mind losing some of the pop from the colors to keep fingerprints off of your screen, or would you rather see your display like there was nothing on it but have more visible fingerprints?
i always go with the clear ones. i had a matte protector on an old iPhone (3G?) and didn't like it. haven't had a matte one since.
Its a bit hidden, but it says on the product webpage FAQs:
What are the differences between the Steinheil Ultra Fine and Ultra Oleophobic Screen Protectors?
All of our screen protectors are Japanese made, enhanced optical hard films. The Ultra Oleophobic screen protectors is a clear type where it absolutely doesn't affect the screen image quality. Ultra Oleophobic has an oil resistant coating to resist oil and other contaminants. Ultra Fine screen protector is matte type hard film which resists against fingerprints and smudges, but it is less clear compared to other Steinheil screen protectors.
So it seems the main difference is that the Oleophobic seems to be the "regular flavor", while Ultra Fine has a matte finish (and $2 more). What is "best" for matte versus regular finish is typically a matter of preference. Matte tends to give less glare (and might be helpful outdoors in sunlight) but tend to be less clear, and may have a tackier feel or even textured feel (not sure if the different feel is true for this particular brand). Hopefully somebody with specific experience with this brand can give an opinion.
Some people (like the previous reply) don't like matte; while I've seen others that seek it out.

I can't do a pic (at work) but I have only used the Ultra Oleophobic on my past two devices, and it is the closest thing to the feeling of the glass out there. There is still a tiny bit of drag that isn't present on the screen, but really is barely noticeable.
Because these are dry application protectors, they can't go all the way to the lateral edges of the One X's screen, apparently it has a slight taper/roll and the SP would lift. My Galaxy Nexus (with the contoured screen) leaves about 2mm all the way around, and that was very clear in SGP's pics on their website. Their pics for the one X show less of a gap and the gap is mostly on the sides, so I think it will look better than it does on the Galaxy Nexus...

No, I think it is just the gradual roll the edges of the screen do to meet the plastic. the screen itself is flat, and the roll appears to only be on the left and right sides. I think even wet application ones would have trouble with it... look at some of the pics that depict the phone in profile; the part of the screen glass that protrudes above the plastic (best noticed in the white model) seems to have a radius (or "roll") to it.
Any other places to get these now that fit.. Dry and not $16

The wet apply protectors are not as scary as they would seem. Your lightly spray the application fluid onto the protector, and its really not enough to penetrate into any cracks. And even if it does, its not enough to short circuit anything. Have the device powered off, and let it dry for the recommended time, and you will be fine.
I used dry apply protectors for my first couple smartphone, as I was also a bit wary of the wet apply method. But when I finally went the wet apply method, I found it easier to install. The wet method give you some time to get the protector perfectly in place before the protector adheres.

Sorry to hear about the deep scratch. I don't have a screen protector on mine yet, though I just received the BodyGuardz Ultra Tough. I've been careful, but I'm not using a case or screen protector at all currently and have just been putting it in my pocket thus far. I would say scratches were much easier to put on my previous phone, which was the crusty old S3.
OP, I think that the screen can and will scratch somewhat easily. I think that if you don't want to take extra precautions with the phone on a day-to-day basis, I would recommend getting a screen protector and/or a case. These just allow you to be a little more clumsy and not have any repercussions. (or fewer repercussions.)

i've had the phone since launch and been using it without screen protector and have not notice any scratches at all. Im not careful with my phone too. Put it in my pocket with keys and change regularly and put it screen down, since the camera makes the phone slippery when it's on smooth uneven surfaces. With previous phones, nexus 4 and 5, they would have some micro scratches by now. I dont get this obsession over getting scratches on a screen that are not noticeable when the screen is on. You are only going to have this phone for a year or two so i dont see what the big deal is.
I got a small scratch after using the phone for one day. Probably due to a grain of sand in my pocket or something like that. I'm planning on getting a screen protector not only to prevent further scratching, but also to ensure the current scratch won't be visible to the naked eye. Albeit knowing that there already is a scratch truly grinds my gear.

I sometimes miss my old moto x 2013-- that thing NEVER scratched no matter what. I had that thing naked for a two years and I re-sold it in immaculate condition. I dropped that thing dozens of times, and it was never harmed once. I miss that thing...
I had a fine scratch on mine after a couple days of use. Luckily Rogers let me exchange mine anyway cause mine had a slightly looser than normal home button.

Tempered glass protection screen of mobile phone film is currently the most high-end products to strengthen the protection of the.
The protective layer thickness of only 0.1 mm, can completely cover the original screen surface, prevent external damage, scratches, more shock absorbent, 5 times higher than the standard PET film. The video has no effect on the screen.

Thank you for your opinion-- do you have a brand that you recommend? I think we all know that glass screen protectors are the way to go, but it's a matter of which company you buy from that determines the success or failure of the screen protector.

This company says they only cover the flat part of the screen. Lie.

Thank you for pointing it out. I (and other probably) appreciate the info. Ill definitely spread the word if I find one that works, or doesn't!
I returned these based on the reviews. No phone yet so didnt test myself, but why wait to be even further disappointed

That's the only decent screen protector that fits right now. There's also a matte finish one. It's not tempered glass, but you get 8. The fit is much better than all of the tempered glass ones on Amazon. It's not 100% perfect as tiny bit of the edge don't stick but you won't notice from the distance unlike the current tempered glass.

If any part of a screen protector doesn't stick then all manner of stuff will get stuck in between. For those w/ colored borders, that's not much of an issue but completely clear ones will eventually show all the dust and stuff on it.

I don't like the feel of this stuff on the screen. It doesn't feel smooth.
It's 3M Urethane film. I have it on the front of my cars.
Ok don't try this one
Definite halo on this one
[3 PACK] Essential Phone Screen Protector, LK [Tempered Glass] with Lifetime Replacement Warranty https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072NB1NJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fHJUzb4M12ED5
The essential screen isn't flat. I don't see a viable glass protector coming. It'd have to be super thin with a really strong adhesive to make it stick to the sides.

Actually much like the iPhone, it's flat until you get to the edge.
If the current round of protectors was 2mm smaller they would fit.
But for me, it doesn't matter.
I'm returning the phone.
There's still a thin bezel on the side that can handle adhesive on it so if they release one with black borders, I'd get it as the black borders won't show the halo effect even if it's not completely stuck on the outer edges. That's what I have on my iPhones. The display area is glass while the borders are plastic so they flex more.

Jus wait for the accessories to start coming out. Sounds like essential is open to 3rd parties making cases and screen protectors... So just got to hold on...this is what it sounded like from the reddit AMA
I have a Sopi 3M matte skin on the back and it helps with the grip a little but not by much... definitely helps w/ the fingerprints though... lol since it's matte, there can be visible smudges from time to time depending on how dirty/sweaty your paws are... I did read the AMA and they should've worked w/ case manufacturers long before release. I understand they want to keep it close to their vest until release (as to not tip off the competition) but they didn't ship the phone until much later than they said they would so in that time they could've sent out the outside schematics/dimensions to case manufacturers. No excuse!
The situation is the same for any devices that have curved edges. I'm not sure why companies just don't apply adhesive to the whole screen protector. A solution is using UV glue on a glass screen protector that isn't fully covered with adhesive. I've used the Whitedome on my Galaxy S8+ and it works really well. You should be able to buy the UV glue and UV lamp from Amazon and apply it to any glass screen protector. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KZmF8uQESI
I just got my essential phone and I'm really honestly digging it. I think that it's a very nice phone that fits my needs well.
However, within a day and a half I have already scratched my screen. Its dead center on the screen and like an inch long Literally got the phone on Saturday and scratched it by Monday early AM. I didn't do anything with the phone besides take it in and out of my pocket. Didn't even make it to work with the phone yet. So I'm pretty upset about that.
I know it's gorilla glass 5, but I have never scratched a phone so quick before. Hell my old phone (Moto X pure) Only had one small scratch after running it for 2.5 years without any screen protection at all, including numerous drops and rough handling.
So I guess a screen protector is a must. I ordered a tudia case and a tempered glass screen protector off Amazon. The screen protector is garbage. I hate it. The edges of the screen protector do NOT stick down, even without the case. The edge all the way around the screen is lifted. It looks terrible.
Are there any screen protectors for this phone that are actually decent? I would rather deal with the chance of more scratches than stare at this awful screen protector with unstuck edges.
Photo of the terrible edges.
I'm curious to know too
I haven't found a good tempered glass for this phone. They all seem to have issues. I've been using the IQ Shield wet install screen protector. Not tempered glass but looks and feels great (almost as smooth as glass), self healing and works with cases if you get the case friendly version.

glass screen protectors are nicer, but they suck on this phone.
I went with wet install plastic in the end because it does the main reason for one, protect from scratches, I'm confident it will.
I just hate the wet install process.
but my experience with glass is it doesn't protect from breaking anyway. any significant hit that would break the screen will break the screen no matter what. I think a bumper case is most effective.
I'm using the this one.

You need to clean your screen really, really, really good before you apply it.
Any oils will show up as a rainbow effect or something close.
I've been using it for weeks now with no lifting with a Tudia case.
Some people say they pop off. That has not been my experience. YMMV

I also use this one. I have actually already gone through 5 of them... It seems like some of them are more sticky than others maybe. Initially I used them without out a case and they would come off all the time, but since I've had the Tudia case 1 fell off and the new one has been on there 3 weeks.
My opinion is they are hit or miss... just hope 1 of 3 is good.

My guess is that these don't stick to the edges as well, but they are black, so you can't see it, therefor they peel off

That is correct, but I have tried a couple of other brands as well and they are all like that. I only continue to buy these because there come as a 3 pack and are like $10.

What I don't understand is why they are having such an issue with it, I had the LG V20 and it has curved edges, but they make them for it with no issues

Manufacturers not that bright?
I use incipio, be careful, the installation instructions are very tricky, I messed up mine while installing, lost 40$
I'm waiting to see if they will send me a new one
So is the Incipio screen protector any good? I don't even care that it's $40, if it sticks down properly without the bubble around the edges I'll buy it.
I am also interested in finding a better screen protector. I have been using the IQ Shield LiQuidSkin, which worked great for a few weeks, but now a corner is peeling up, I assume from pulling it in and out of my pocket. I might go ahead and get another one if I can't find anything better. Would love a tempered glass protector if someone actually makes a decent one!

Bought a 3 pack of the ozeros on Amazon. 1st on sucked. 2nd one I put on a few weeks later has been perfect. No rainbow of adhesion issues. Use a clear tpu case with it as well.

Where did you purchase? I'm not even seeing it for the Essential PH-1 on the official website....Nevermind, had to do a manual search for our model.
