porting desire s/incredibile s - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can? yeah yeah yeah yeah

while an actual thread about porting the desire s/incredibile s would belong in the develpment section, this thread does not. it should be moved to Q&A. considering there is absolutely nothing related to anything going on in the thread. there isnt even a real question here, just "can".

Huh? You're talking about 3 phones here but you only mentioned two.
And the NS offers so many more things, the NFC is relatively new technology so its not much right now.

Really I have had 4, between the post and my sig I thought that was pretty much common sense. The NS offers not much more than my Vibrant software wise...hardware is a different story. I've learned to cope with the NS, not so much prefer it. There wasn't an option for my "perfect phone" on TMobile.

Software wise? NS runs Stock Android whereas the Vibrant runs on TouchWiz and runs on a RFS filesystem which heavily relies on Voodoo/OCLF lag fixes.
There's a huge difference. Also CM7 supports the Nexus S.
@epsix: Everybody hates you because you're simply attempting to "troll." You never used the Nexus S, don't judge a phone without spending at least three weeks using it.

Ya, my Vibrant does more and looks better doing it, my Nexus is minutely faster. My Nexus relies on Voodoo for the screen colors. So your relies on argument is kind of not a problem at all, since the mod is out. Now when and if the Nexus gets 720p video recording then it will be brought up to standard and that point will be negated as well.

How does the Nexus S rely on Voodoo? It doesn't need Voodoo to fully function properly. I can care less about Voodoo Color, Voodoo Sound? Don't even use it as my media player so it has no affect on me. 2.3.3 Colors are simply fine.
The Vibrant relying on lagfixes requires it to disable lagfixes and re-enable to flash new ROMs depending on what ROM. That roughly takes about 3-5 minutes to disable/reenable the lagfix.
Video recording? I honestly don't even use it. A phone can only do so much, it's not a superpower device. If I'm going to record something, I'll use a video recorder. That's just how I feel, people will try and argue about this but whatever. I prefer dedicated devices for video recording / photos.
Photos and videos with a phone are just for casual things.
Oh yeah. Have fun being on a outdated Android version. When Gingerbread comes out. All Vibrant ROMs will be based off internal leaks with a closed-source kernel. That should be pretty fun. By the time the Vibrant gets the official Gingerbread, we'll have Ice Cream.
@epsix: haha alright. go back to your MT4G forum
People will always find something to complain about. Sorry but the Nexus S pros outweigh the flaws. If you don't like the phone, then stop trying to bash a phone. It's immature.

If your on a vibrant, then why are you wasting your time in the Nexus forums? Go troll on the vibrant forums and tell someone who cares about how you use 720p recording to watch yourself

But the evo hardware is going to be far slower in a year than nexus hardware. The Hummingbird processor we've seen in the SGS family is by far better than what the evo is sporting.
I don't have a single concern about my Nexus S (or Epic) not being adequate in a year or two.... I have used an evo now and I already feel that it's a slow clumsy device shoe-horned into a large enclosure to attract the "hummer crowd" ... bigger is better, am i right?
I just got rid of my epic for the ns4g (cracked screen on epic). My fiancée has the EVO and I have to say its a night and day comparison. Battery on the nexus is much better. Everything is smoother, and of course the display is 100x better. The EVO is a nice phone, but hardware wise its a bit out of date.

Couldn't agree more. I have a launch phone. Never suffered reboots. Minimal bleed. Overclocks and undervolts like a champ. My friend got an evo3d and it is a very good phone. 3d although gimmicky is a pretty cool feature that will impress people. The problem that he and I saw with the evo is that it lags too much. The launcher lags. Opening apps is slower. I guess this phone has me spoiled in terms of speed and smoothness

I have to semi disagree. I played with the EVO 3d and while its charm wore off about 10mins of playing with it, I did get an EVO 4G and think its a great phone so far. It responds as quick as my g2x but without the annoying reboots, freezes and overheating.
Only downside of it is Sprint sucks here in California. Only a small area has 4G and even then it sucks.

Yea, Sense lags as much if not more on the Sensation but the one thing the Sensation does faster than any phone I've used is open apps and interact with them. When using Google Maps there is pretty much no load time at all. All of this is strange considering the hardware is the same and the Evo has more ram. Just another case of poor optimization on HTC's part.

I had a Vibrant and a Nexus S and loved both of them. The Nexus S was the fastest single core Android ever mad and so far the GSII is the fastest dual core ever made. Samsungis getting better every year and so far, nobody is innovating right now like Samsung is. They are constantely pushing the next level with their CPU's, displays and software. The drivers they use in their software are straight up sick. Just look at what they did with Androids native browser. They added hardware acceleration to it before anyone else.

Good points ... vibrant was awesome minus the damn GPS...
Ive had the Vibrant and it was the best phone id owned... Until i upgraded to the Sensation. The Sense UI is altogether the best in my experience. The native widgets and apps do everything better than every other variation up to and including TW which i completely despise!!
The worst mistake ive made is getting the G2X during an insurance replacement (dont ask) the Sensation was on backorder and i didnt wanna wait. Plus i had heard about how sickeningly fast the G2X was and @ the time the Sensation's bootloader was locked. Now ive had nothing but issues with this phone. Im having the replacement replaced because of rebooting and signal issues. Everytime i get on the phone with Tmo i ask if theres a way to just send me another Sensation lol. Im this close | | to going to a store and begging!
If this replacement doesnt work out ... ACTION
Hey Umm OP i will trade my awesome Garminfone for your evo3d.
All phones have something wrong with them. Literally all. There has never been nor will there ever be a piece of computer technology with no bugs whatsoever.
Apparently, the E3D and Sensation are just speed bumps. The Vigor is supposed to be released on VZW in Q3 and I'm guessing there will be an international version. 1.5mhz SoC, new GPU, and 720p display. So much for the Sensation's flagship status.

If you look at a lot of Marketplace updates to many apps, being feed down the pike, developers are working hard to put in fixes for the device.
Read the reviews of many games and you will see tons of remarks of "does not run on EVO 3D" Lots of people up in arms...almost violent for a 99 cent app not working on their new phone........
EVO 3D to me seems to have much more of the device specific complaints.

Is the benchmark you provided from the Vigor? If so, it shows the same adreno 220 used in the Sensation

Torn, please help

I previously had a Vibrant, and loved it. Unfortunately I had a pretty intense water accident with it (sat in a jacuzzi for 10 min before realizing it was in my pocket). I am eligible for an upgrade and am torn on phones. I have to get a phone by the 25th, so I can't wait for the Hercules, so I'm wondering, should I even bother with the SGS4G? Or should I look elsewhere at the Sensation or G2X?

By bother, I mean is it worth it to get, its almost six months old and I know that its not running on much different hardware than the vibrant (which is one reason I'm so attracted to it) but I want a beast, not a puppy when it compares to other phones in good old performance. Haha I realize now that "bother" wasn't quite the right word. I guess the better phrase is, is it worth it to get over the other new powerhouses?

I played with the sensation at the store and I liked it alot but I couldnt tell a whole lot of difference. But hardware wise the sensation has the high ground and it has sense 3.0 which I like alot. I,love my sgs4g but I personally like the sensation more. If only the new sgs4gs had 2.3.4 and tw4.5 or something new then it would be a beast.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
G2x is a solid phone, if it didnt have all the issues it would probably top the sensation. I like the g2x, stock android and very very fast! Sensation is an excellent phone as well, reminded me too much of my nexus one though.
You can't really go wrong with either one (IF you get a good g2x without problems) slim chance it seems to be. Battery life on g2x wasnt great barely 6-8 hours or so, sensation is alittle better though. Galaxy s 4g is nice, no issues running kg4 and probably getting around 2 days plus on one charge.
May want to consider a nexus s as well if you are looking at this phone. Personally I would try to hold off for another month or so, new nexus may roll out, the sgs2 or whatever itll be called? If you must choose now, pick up a cheap galaxy s4g off craigslist.
Sgs4g is great but either the sensation or g2x is def a better choice. Better dev communities and better phones period.. dual core ftw. Hercules is a phone to end all phones though.. why can't u wait??
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Not sure about G2x, but the SG4G is way better than Sensation 4G
Sensation got a good screen, but, the battery life sux. Also the call quality is not good as SG4G. Low ring ton volume is disappointing also. Audio quality (headphone) of SG4G (with voodoo) is 100 times better than Sensation.
Why not just get a phone like the Sensation on the 24th of this month and if the Hercules comes out before your 14 day return period then just swap it out for the Hercules.
But if you live in the wonderful state of California, then you get 30 days to swap it out.
You guys are all looking at software issues. Hardware wise, the other phones are newer...so of course the others will be faster, have more memory, etc. most, if not all, the issues will probably be addressed by the community. I have no complaints about this phone, but do your research on the development of the others.

Hercules has the qualcomm snapdragon dual core, when compared to the exynos on my sgs2, it feels like comparing a core i5 to a pentium dual core. But the screen size is a plus, but it will probably kill the battery really quickly.

Or you could just keep the Sensation. The Hercules is not that much of an upgrade anyways, unless you're dying for an AMOLED+ screen.
They have the same processor. Plus, if you're into modding, the Sensation is very close to a full working build of CM7. So you can only imagine how fast that will be. And it's a qHD screen while the Hercules is not.
I think I need to research the qHD screen. It didn't look very impressive to me, but I only used the phone for 2 minutes or so. The thing is, I LOVED the super AMOLED on the vibrant.

I just left the GS4G for the Sensation. The GS4G is ok, but it's middle of the road in terms of specs these days.

Should I trade my G2x for Nexus S?

I've got a couple offers for my G2x trading for a Nexus S
Should i do it?
I need upgrade-ability and customization
I've heard people say the G2x will never get
Loss: Single core, VGA front facing cam, 5MP front cam.
Win: Almost guaranteed upgrade to IceCreamSandwich, Faster Update supportm NFC, Super AMOLED, Curved Glass, Louder Speaker than G2x, more stable
What would you choose?
Do you think the G2x will get ICS? (Cyanogenmod may not be able to make ICS, due to the fact that honeycomb is not open source and Google said that ICS will look like ICS.)

What? Google has confirmed that ICS will be fully open source at I/O 2011 just like Gingerbread, so the CM team will most probably support it. Otherwise, I'd stick with the G2x for the better specs, and the screen IMO is fine. It's only a little bit worse than Super AMOLED.
Glass is not curved.

In my experience the G2x screen is WAY better than any other phone I have ever used at one important thing... it is easy to view in direct sunlight. Better blacks and rich colors are great when you're huddled in the dark, but there are times when I want to go out and see both the world and my cellphone screen at the same time. The G2x is the best I have ever used in this regard.
As for the trade... i'd be tempted, but I'm sort of a path of least resistance kind of guy. I'd probably stick with what I know. I have been burned in the past with phones that have issues that don't show up right away while you are testing with your own SIM, so be careful. (Of course that advice would be even more prudent for the potential G2x recipient to follow!)
In the end I think it's whatever works best for you now, and the G2x has killer support right here in river city. I wouldn't worry too much about future proofyness, the future is seriously uncertain as it is.
I'm going to trade. Samsung tends to be better at making phones. They've made much more than LG. Also, my phones a lil bit knicked up. The one I'm getting is new. As long as the phone I'm getting doesn't lag like my Droid on gingerbread I think I'm fine to take the deal

Whatta fail. Trade an ak 47 for a glock

The only reason I would swap is because it is guaranteed that I will get ICS other than that I wouldn't swap it.
G2x is superior in every other way, and if we happened to get ICS through Cyanogen we will be already superior in every aspect against the Nexus S.
The only reasonable thing for me to do is to get the new Nexus if cyanogen doesn't update our phone to ICS.

G2x wins in every aspect other than software updates...

Don't compare my phone to a third world piece of junk assult rifle. If the G2x were truly a weapon, it would be something more like a PS90 or a Magpul Masada.
Dont mean to start a flame-war but, I also heard Samsung does better jobs with their RMA/Warranty than LG. It's just what i've heard.
Nexus s owns the g2x not by hardware stats but by shear support, longevity and dedicated updates for issues from Google directly. No carrier or manufacturer issues to deal with. That's a win win.

Are you freaking kidding me!? My sister has a g2x with original Froyo that performs better than a nexus s
P.s.- vapor311, you have a sensation so why are you hanging around the g2x forum? Could it be because there's nothing interesting to talk about on your forum? Just a thought.

Hah sorry I have both....didn't even think about it when I posted ....not I said nothing about performance though man. The g2x has major issues at least a large portion of them do. That's why you noticed me on a sensation. Bought one today. I finally got a replacement g2x that's good but I'm sick of dealing with a bunk phone.

Not exactly the nexus comes very close to G2X performance an its a single core when u have dual it likes having two phones an it also has 512 Ram an it's still close the phone is a beast an the screen is great I would go with nexus do to it getting ICS fast an it looks better that G2X which is ugly!!!!

Put it this way, Nexus S is a prettier Vibrant 4G, without 4G, a SD card slot, and NFC Support. I loved the Vibrant 4G and wanted the Nexus S from my dad. I tested the G2x at T-Mobile, bought it, and don't regret it one bit. Samsung make better devices than LG, but Stock Gingerbread with an amazing launcher(extreamly fast launching) and dual core with an amazing battery, I wont leave G2x. If anything, trade for a Samsung galaxy S 2, from what I heard, best phone ever and looks like it too

As for in the US, G2x is hands down best performing phone out there for GSM. On android atleast.

I currently own in the house a g2x, nexus s, mytouch 4g, sensation and a firefly for the kiddo...with all the issues from the g2xs ive ran through its almost worth using the firefly....on a serious note the nexus s had a few let downs for what should have been a flagship phone when it arrived, though its been THE most reliable. They could have pushed more features into it. That being said...Ill use the sensation now until the prime arrives. No more screwing with carrier/manufacturer updates F THAT NOISE!
The G2x haters are still hanging around this forum. They must be closet g2x lovers. You have the sensation which is basically eye candy otherwise it really sucks. And I dare one of you to get a better quadrant score on the nexus s with its "single" core than my g2x. I can tell you I got a low 2900 on my g2x compared to a nexus s at 1850. Not even close. The nexus is a nice fone but you can't put it up against a g2x. And as far as the g2x being ugly, you're off again. Its a good looking fone maybe not as good as nexus s but I have a ton of roms that I could put on my fone that would put the nexus to shame.

[Q] Who is still using G2x?

This is interesting after I sold MT4 and black X10i but I didn't sell G2x because nobody wants it.
Recently I rotated from NS to G2x, and out of curiosity to find custom ROM (I don't want 2G/4G on top bar, so stock ROM isn't an option).
I found Eagleblood 2.4 (2.3.7 AOSP based) is the best for my taste. After installed, nearly 5000 ogg audio files are recognized without much problem*.
I am glad I still keep my G2x and found a nearly right ROM to make it supposed to be.
I find it a little funny that g2x's aren't very popular and don't fetch a high price but perform better than many other devices available and are loaded with options.

I think I am one of the "lucky few".
They had lots of software problems. It does suck though. I'm moving to Verizon and only getting $200 for mine. Thing is a beast and its sad.
Haven't had any problems on CM7 #201 and ICS hitting us soon. Such a shame. Its a good phone and the important people know that.
I'll probably end up on a Galaxy Nexus but sadly I think the performance will be about the same. I think with graphic acceleration the G2x will be a beast running ICS.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
I bought my G2x for $150us. With CM7 (hopefully soon to be 9) this phone rocks. I came from a Nexus S on Sprint and was totally bummed that the GSM Nexus S would not get 4G on T-Mobile and settled for the G2x. With the exception of the screen I never missed the Nexus S.
Just brought this for $200, couldn't believe these were so low, had to buy one since I sold my MyTouch4G for $200.
I'm going to use this side by side with my Sensation, about to pop my sim in this bad boy and see what it could do!

<3 my G2x.
In Toronto, someone would snatch that off your hands in seconds, simply because it's branded to work with Wind and everyone is flocking to them right now.

I agree. I can't really give my full impression on the G2x when it's full power hasn't even been tapped yet. So with ICS that will finally happen.
Still using my G2X and love it.

I loved my G2x, but then nexus fever hit and I absolutely had to have it Very proud of the switch, as there is really no comparison (at least for me).
But, I am looking to sell the G2x and don't expect to get more than $200, which is sad because I sold my G2 for $300 to upgrade to the G2x
I picked my G2X up for 200 bucks and running weapon with faux 123 kernel I beat my buddys tmobile sgs2 in every test (yes, even in real world use smoothness) except internet speeds.
My problem with the galaxy nexus is the thing is to downright huge! Come on, 4.6 inch screen! I think the sgs2 is too big at 4.5 (the main reason I didn't get one).
Thats right samsung, there are still people out there that want a top of the line phone in 4 inches, why have you seem to of forgotten us!?!

I just pick my G2X for 190.00 I always wanted one but it seem no one would come up off of one. I'm pleased with it however I can't seem to get it rooted I have read almost every damn forum there is.

coming from an iphone 4 im so happy with this phone over all, i just wish the screen had been a bit bigger 4.2 or had a button (i love the buttons iphone - galaxy s i9000 ) anyways im quite pleased with this phone does everything, nice camera not like what people say that its horrible and stuff like that ... this phone is a beast running weapon g2x, picked it up for free on winds super smart promotional plan ... the only downsides i see to this phone compared to my iphone 4
- battery life is a bit weak
-keyboard doesnt feel right when typing... ive tried the ics keyboard thats in the market but its still a bit buggy with multi touch swype is very good love it.
i wish we had more developers to make more custom roms like the i9000 has (had it before but died because of the internal SD card issue )
A lot of the issues it had at launch killed its rep but I think it's a great phone. I had very few problems before I rooted and even less after the upgrade to GB and then rooting it. With the dual core processor and the promise of ICS down the road being able to better utilize the dual core I think it's fairly future-proof, a phone that will perform well even if you keep it til end of contract.
The first few iPhone 4s had tons of hardware issues,
First dual core phone and people don't expect a few bugs, common now...
LGs part on the software. How are you going to release a dual core on froyo.really? ??- epic fail -
