Should I trade my G2x for Nexus S? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I've got a couple offers for my G2x trading for a Nexus S
Should i do it?
I need upgrade-ability and customization
I've heard people say the G2x will never get
Loss: Single core, VGA front facing cam, 5MP front cam.
Win: Almost guaranteed upgrade to IceCreamSandwich, Faster Update supportm NFC, Super AMOLED, Curved Glass, Louder Speaker than G2x, more stable
What would you choose?
Do you think the G2x will get ICS? (Cyanogenmod may not be able to make ICS, due to the fact that honeycomb is not open source and Google said that ICS will look like ICS.)

What? Google has confirmed that ICS will be fully open source at I/O 2011 just like Gingerbread, so the CM team will most probably support it. Otherwise, I'd stick with the G2x for the better specs, and the screen IMO is fine. It's only a little bit worse than Super AMOLED.

Glass is not curved.

In my experience the G2x screen is WAY better than any other phone I have ever used at one important thing... it is easy to view in direct sunlight. Better blacks and rich colors are great when you're huddled in the dark, but there are times when I want to go out and see both the world and my cellphone screen at the same time. The G2x is the best I have ever used in this regard.
As for the trade... i'd be tempted, but I'm sort of a path of least resistance kind of guy. I'd probably stick with what I know. I have been burned in the past with phones that have issues that don't show up right away while you are testing with your own SIM, so be careful. (Of course that advice would be even more prudent for the potential G2x recipient to follow!)
In the end I think it's whatever works best for you now, and the G2x has killer support right here in river city. I wouldn't worry too much about future proofyness, the future is seriously uncertain as it is.

I'm going to trade. Samsung tends to be better at making phones. They've made much more than LG. Also, my phones a lil bit knicked up. The one I'm getting is new. As long as the phone I'm getting doesn't lag like my Droid on gingerbread I think I'm fine to take the deal

Whatta fail. Trade an ak 47 for a glock
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App

The only reason I would swap is because it is guaranteed that I will get ICS other than that I wouldn't swap it.
G2x is superior in every other way, and if we happened to get ICS through Cyanogen we will be already superior in every aspect against the Nexus S.
The only reasonable thing for me to do is to get the new Nexus if cyanogen doesn't update our phone to ICS.

Don't compare my phone to a third world piece of junk assult rifle. If the G2x were truly a weapon, it would be something more like a PS90 or a Magpul Masada.

Dont mean to start a flame-war but, I also heard Samsung does better jobs with their RMA/Warranty than LG. It's just what i've heard.

Nexus s owns the g2x not by hardware stats but by shear support, longevity and dedicated updates for issues from Google directly. No carrier or manufacturer issues to deal with. That's a win win.

Are you freaking kidding me!? My sister has a g2x with original Froyo that performs better than a nexus s
P.s.- vapor311, you have a sensation so why are you hanging around the g2x forum? Could it be because there's nothing interesting to talk about on your forum? Just a thought.

Hah sorry I have both....didn't even think about it when I posted ....not I said nothing about performance though man. The g2x has major issues at least a large portion of them do. That's why you noticed me on a sensation. Bought one today. I finally got a replacement g2x that's good but I'm sick of dealing with a bunk phone.

Not exactly the nexus comes very close to G2X performance an its a single core when u have dual it likes having two phones an it also has 512 Ram an it's still close the phone is a beast an the screen is great I would go with nexus do to it getting ICS fast an it looks better that G2X which is ugly!!!!

Put it this way, Nexus S is a prettier Vibrant 4G, without 4G, a SD card slot, and NFC Support. I loved the Vibrant 4G and wanted the Nexus S from my dad. I tested the G2x at T-Mobile, bought it, and don't regret it one bit. Samsung make better devices than LG, but Stock Gingerbread with an amazing launcher(extreamly fast launching) and dual core with an amazing battery, I wont leave G2x. If anything, trade for a Samsung galaxy S 2, from what I heard, best phone ever and looks like it too

I currently own in the house a g2x, nexus s, mytouch 4g, sensation and a firefly for the kiddo...with all the issues from the g2xs ive ran through its almost worth using the firefly....on a serious note the nexus s had a few let downs for what should have been a flagship phone when it arrived, though its been THE most reliable. They could have pushed more features into it. That being said...Ill use the sensation now until the prime arrives. No more screwing with carrier/manufacturer updates F THAT NOISE!

The G2x haters are still hanging around this forum. They must be closet g2x lovers. You have the sensation which is basically eye candy otherwise it really sucks. And I dare one of you to get a better quadrant score on the nexus s with its "single" core than my g2x. I can tell you I got a low 2900 on my g2x compared to a nexus s at 1850. Not even close. The nexus is a nice fone but you can't put it up against a g2x. And as far as the g2x being ugly, you're off again. Its a good looking fone maybe not as good as nexus s but I have a ton of roms that I could put on my fone that would put the nexus to shame.

Is the LG G2X worth to upgrade to from a Samsung Vibrant

I have a Vibrant w/ CM7 on it. Was wondering if this phone is worth the upgrade. I love the screen on the Vibrant, and know this is a bit of a downgrade, but everything else just seems so worth it. And yes i would be putting CM7 on this as well.

Definitely worth the upgrade. Only thing the Vibrant has over this phone is the Super Amoled. The G2x has a faster processor, 1080p Video recording, front facing camera, 8 megapixel camera, 4g (feels way faster than my myTouch 4g and G2x) one of the loudest speakers I've heard on a smartphone and I've owned numerous of smartphone's (Nexus One, Nexus S, myTouch 4g, G2, Vibrant, HD7 etc.). The screen has a nice curve around the edge that feels so good when swiping across pages, pictures etc. The issues this phone has is mainly software based since Gingerbread isn't intended for dual core. ICE CREAM SANDWICH should fix this issue if we will ever get an official release from LG. If not there's always XDA devs that will be more than willing to bring this update to the G2x.

Not to argue, but my reason behind saying gingerbread isn't optimized is that when Google created gingerbread there was no dual core around. The software had single core in mind. G2x users are still experiencing random reboots, but not as frequent as before.

Because the gb update is still ****!!! Cmon I think there even saying T-Mobile pulled the update to fix some bugs and gb is more optimized for dual core then froyo is what I was getting at. Dude gb is definitely good for dual core especially if optimized rite and all the bugs are worked out u can manage ur apps better and gb has a built in task killer if u choose to use it and I/0 is better. Oh and better battery management, idk I would say gb bug free is definitely great for dual core phones look at the sgs 2
Hands down a major upgrade!! I've had a mint vibrant sitting around the whole time I've had a G2x, and never have seriously considered using it during the trials and tribulations with the G2x. The GPS is all but unusable, and while the screen is very contrasty, saturated and bright, it's also grainy, not very sharp for the resolution specs. I prefer the sharpness and clarity of the G2x IPS LCD.
I ended up getting a second G2x for testing/hacking and sold the Vibrant. A good phone, but the useless GPS was completely unacceptable.

Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II to appear in the US. I hear it's coming August. I have it now, bought out from over seas though. You can buy it from overseas and use At & t for using the 3G/4G speeds. And AT&T has a $50 unlimited talk, text, and data. Galaxy S II doesn't show up as a smartphone so you don't have to pay extra for data plan.

I was gonna wait for a SGSII Varient, or the Hercules, but i just didnt feel like waiting for the SGSII, and the Hercules screen is probably going to be too big. So i went out and bought it.
Gonna root and put CM7 on it. Hope its worth it!
Thanks everyone!
Its definitely worth it u will be happy your video camera will do 30 fps. , u will still have screenshot, just hold power down u will see the menu, cm increased data speeds, fixed battery issues, there's touch to focus for the camera, alot of nice **** that cm has incorporated into our phone download the latest nightly it is very stable and more stable then rc1 plus more stuff has been incorporated since rc1. Oh and we have voodoo sound for the g2x which is sick just flash fauxs kernel I think he's the only one with the loading module in his kernel, and we also have tons of roms to choose from if u ain't feeling cm, I love my phone with cm tho, the g2x is the best phone state side

Torn, please help

I previously had a Vibrant, and loved it. Unfortunately I had a pretty intense water accident with it (sat in a jacuzzi for 10 min before realizing it was in my pocket). I am eligible for an upgrade and am torn on phones. I have to get a phone by the 25th, so I can't wait for the Hercules, so I'm wondering, should I even bother with the SGS4G? Or should I look elsewhere at the Sensation or G2X?

Yes. I think you should "bother" with this phone
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
By bother, I mean is it worth it to get, its almost six months old and I know that its not running on much different hardware than the vibrant (which is one reason I'm so attracted to it) but I want a beast, not a puppy when it compares to other phones in good old performance. Haha I realize now that "bother" wasn't quite the right word. I guess the better phrase is, is it worth it to get over the other new powerhouses?

I played with the sensation at the store and I liked it alot but I couldnt tell a whole lot of difference. But hardware wise the sensation has the high ground and it has sense 3.0 which I like alot. I,love my sgs4g but I personally like the sensation more. If only the new sgs4gs had 2.3.4 and tw4.5 or something new then it would be a beast.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
G2x is a solid phone, if it didnt have all the issues it would probably top the sensation. I like the g2x, stock android and very very fast! Sensation is an excellent phone as well, reminded me too much of my nexus one though.
You can't really go wrong with either one (IF you get a good g2x without problems) slim chance it seems to be. Battery life on g2x wasnt great barely 6-8 hours or so, sensation is alittle better though. Galaxy s 4g is nice, no issues running kg4 and probably getting around 2 days plus on one charge.
May want to consider a nexus s as well if you are looking at this phone. Personally I would try to hold off for another month or so, new nexus may roll out, the sgs2 or whatever itll be called? If you must choose now, pick up a cheap galaxy s4g off craigslist.
Sgs4g is great but either the sensation or g2x is def a better choice. Better dev communities and better phones period.. dual core ftw. Hercules is a phone to end all phones though.. why can't u wait??
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Not sure about G2x, but the SG4G is way better than Sensation 4G
Sensation got a good screen, but, the battery life sux. Also the call quality is not good as SG4G. Low ring ton volume is disappointing also. Audio quality (headphone) of SG4G (with voodoo) is 100 times better than Sensation.
Why not just get a phone like the Sensation on the 24th of this month and if the Hercules comes out before your 14 day return period then just swap it out for the Hercules.
But if you live in the wonderful state of California, then you get 30 days to swap it out.
You guys are all looking at software issues. Hardware wise, the other phones are newer...so of course the others will be faster, have more memory, etc. most, if not all, the issues will probably be addressed by the community. I have no complaints about this phone, but do your research on the development of the others.

Hercules has the qualcomm snapdragon dual core, when compared to the exynos on my sgs2, it feels like comparing a core i5 to a pentium dual core. But the screen size is a plus, but it will probably kill the battery really quickly.

Or you could just keep the Sensation. The Hercules is not that much of an upgrade anyways, unless you're dying for an AMOLED+ screen.
They have the same processor. Plus, if you're into modding, the Sensation is very close to a full working build of CM7. So you can only imagine how fast that will be. And it's a qHD screen while the Hercules is not.
I think I need to research the qHD screen. It didn't look very impressive to me, but I only used the phone for 2 minutes or so. The thing is, I LOVED the super AMOLED on the vibrant.

[Q] Mytouch4g to a G2x

I am thinking about trading my Mytouch4g for a G2x.....i also have a dell streak 5
In everyone's opinion, which is the better phone? I know the G2x's specs are ridiculous compared to the other 2, but I have heard of many issues with the G2x.
This G2x is unlocked and rooted running 2.3.3. So I imagine that most of the bad bugs are worked out already.
So basically, I am wondering about other people's input on this trade. Should I go from the Mytouch4g to the G2x? Or should I just stick with my Dell Streak 5?
I made this switch. But I was forced to cause my MT4G died after I dropped it in water. Yes G2x is faster and has a bigger screen but in terms of development I think MT4G being an HTC is a better phone.
CM7 worked a lot better on it than G2x although G2x isn't that bad. It is still stuck on 2.6.32 kernel though, while the MT4G kernel is up to .35 and easily devvable.
Spec-wise, they are about the same. Shouldn't be much of a difference except for the keyboard.

Very true about development. If you are flash happy and want to change ROMs often...stick with the MT4G.
I'm in the same boat as the op, and I'm really tempted to get a g2x, as I'm a bit of a tech addict and can't wait for the gs2. On the other hand, the mt4g isn't terrible. It's stable, and development wise a lot better than the g2x. It runs pretty much 99% of what I want it to run very well.
The development is the only thing keeping me from jumping right now.

I am getting antsy to get a new phone to replace my MT4G, but I do not want to spend a ton like I would on a sensation or the Galaxy 2. I was thinking an older dual core might be a good start.
I like to tinker, but not overly flash happy. Just want stability and decent battery life, and the typical things like good signal reception and call quality.
Why do people always bring up GSII? I doubt you'll notice any differences in real world performance... Just get a G2x. Development isn't that bad... But if you MUST HAVE Sense, stick with the MT4G.
The GSII is a great phone... If it is anything like the first one then it will be even better with cyanogen or any custom ROM, same with the sensation. I don't use Sense often, but it isn't that bad, especially the newer versions.
The biggest difference will be battery life. From what I am hearing, the new SOCs are much easier on the battery, so all things being equal, the sensation or GSII will have much better battery life even with higher use cases.
That is why the choice is more difficult. Besides... us tinkers (aka the rooting community) will never be satisfied long with the same phone. After about a year, it is time to look into something new. Sometimes we can't afford the latest and greatest so we look for the best bang for our buck we can.
As to a new g2x owner (3 weeks) I love this phone, bought it brand new from the store and it works flawlessly, I flashed weapons GB build and using fauxes over clocked kernel.
In other words, i'm in love with it.

G2x Vs Nexus S (GSM Version)

I am planning on getting either phone.
Which phone do you think is better and WHY?
Nexus s. Pure Google experience. Get updates much faster, such as Ice Cream Sandwich. G2x seems very problematic from what I have heard. The screen on nexus is better, the only thing going for the g2x is the processor and slightly faster data speeds.

They're about equally matched
The G2x doesnt have reboot issues anymore (after update)
at first, when dual-core was bleeding edge, it had some problems
The screen is slightly curved on the edges
1080p video
Dual-core tegra 2 (my Nexus S outscored the tegra 2 in Quadrant Video subsection)
Screen is average
Less plasticy then the Nex
Speaker is not loud at all
LG doesnt give the best tech support
The Nexus S will get updates faster
No Micro SD (16GB built in at high speed)
NFC (Google Wallet+MasterCard/PayPass)
No 720p video
Screen is amazing, pentile may look funny the first 2 days, but i cant even tell the difference anymore..
Curved glass feels nice on your fingers
Minor WiFi reception problems
It all depends on what you want. I traded a used G2x for a new in-box Nexus S. I just love the AMOLED screen, you cant tell where the screen ends, that's how good the contrast ratio is

But thanks guys .. still wondering. Its hard when you want a phone thats going to last you a bit.
Heres how I see it:
nexus s: Better battery, better screen, nicer design.
g2x: Better performance, more powerful phone, better build quality.
So here i am trying to get convinced lol.
Wow i have had both phones & j was happy with my g2x after i learned how to root n upgrade to g.b. but the nexus is kind of faster. I think either phone is good but there's more dev & mods on the g2x.
This is because the nexus s everything works out the box.
Plus you know were gonna be 1 if the 1st to get ics.

Come back in six months when your G2x still does not have ICS. Why not wait for the nexus prime?

i used tge G2x and currently now im on Nexus S. These are the reasons i didnt like G2x:
-Battery Life is not as good as Nexus S.
-The LCD is actually really nice and bright, how ever the pixel density and image quality are no where near as good as Nexus S.
-To be really picky, the phone is awkward shaped and proportioned, its too tall for its screen size
+every other reason people have mentioned, HOWEVER i didnt have a single known issue problem with mine
hope this helps

Im looking to put it on Simple mobile and am not going to pay 500+ for the prime lol.
Hmm, I got a better idea, Even though i am leaning more towards the Nexus S, Im going to buy both and try them, then sell whichever i like less.

Dude, I did the same thing –bought a G2x and a Nexus S on Craigslist and have been playing with them for about week now. G2X, rooted and ROMed, is fast, stable and a nice looking machine. On the right ROM, the battery can last all day, evening with streaming music, calls and texts, and still be half full. The camera is fargging great, too. There are two complaints I have. One is that the G2x feels a little awkward in my hand, especially compared with the curved Nexus S, which fits perfectly. The G2x is just a millimeter or two too wide for a comfortable grip for me. The other is the ICS situation. I’m sure the G2x devs will get ICS onto the phone via Cyanogen or whatever, but because LG won’t be open with certain drivers it’s uncertain whether ICS will be able to take full advantage of the phone. Oh yeah, and the comment about the sound issue is accurate, too. Although sound clarity is great, the speaker is quiet – if you’re in a crowd or noisy room, it can be a little difficult to hear who you’re talking to.
Basically, you can’t go wrong with either phone. I’ll probably hang on to both until it becomes more clear how the ICS situation plays out and then sell one of them.
Honestly, I dont even care about ICS lol .. I just want an all around better phone.

See that is why ics is so important. The UI will be hardware accelerated giving you the smoothest experience possible. Hardware acceleration on a single core will blow away a software accelerated dual core.

If I were getting a new smartphone on tmo I'd get the sensation 4g.
Sent from my Nexus S MV from the XDA Premium app.
I was in the same position as you a while ago. I got a Optimus 2X (AT&T bands) with CM7 and it just wasn't good. Short battery life, GPS problems, reboots and some other small stuff that made it not worth it. Switched back to my CM7 Nexus One and remembered Nexus is always the way to go and waited until I could get meee Nexus S

Is it worth buying now?

Is the Samsung Galaxy S 4G still worth buying today? Or should I settle on something much cheaper, like the mytouch by LG, and just wait until I feel comfortable spending more on a better phone.
I'm on a tight budget and don't want to spend too much.
What are you looking for in a phone?

Well I just went through a sensation and an amaze and my sgs4g has a better screen, better quadrant score, and faster download speeds on data. Better back speaker and the build quality on the sensation was garbage. Modded right the sgs4g is a damn fine phone.
Honestly, if you are looking for a moddifyable phone, this is probably one of the least diverse phones, and personally, I hate this phone.

Yeah I'd say its worth it.
Myself I've moved to a g2x as my everyday phone, but I still keep this one around. The g2x is quite a bit faster and smoother for about the same price. This phone has a brighter screen, longer battery life, and louder speaker.
And while I know alot of people complain there's not many roms and whatnot available for this phone, that's only because they haven't owned a g2x lol.

What is this consumer reports?
I got my phone for 120 + 80 a month for unlimited everything 4g through tmobile. I could have had the galaxy s2 for 220, but this was longer battery life, slightly smaller/lighter, and easier to root/customize

If they saw the HTC amaze rom selection they would love the sgs4g selection. They have like 1 dev about 3 rom copies and no way to fully unlock the phone.

If you want to mod... the sgs4g is not what you want. Gave mine to my 9 year old... even she was bummed when she couldn't use CM.

No the sgs4g isn't the best for modding purposes, but it does offer a lot more options than some phones.
But come on, who really needs 50 roms!? As long as there's one I'm happy with (octane for sgs4g weapon for g2x) that's all you need. Not everyone likes cm, I don't (yes its available for my g2x and I've tried it).
