why do you factory reset your phone that many tmes?i mean, i dont think its really bad for it but what was the reason? i just wipe mine when i flash different roms.
When I got the phone and signed into everything I use Market gmail Facebook etc it gave my all the junk and settings I didn't want. Settings and prefs I had on my captivate I had to do all over again. When it comes to my phones I think I'm a little OCD I just like my phone a certain way if I'm not happy with erase and start all over!

If you are within the 30 day return policy, then why not go exchange the phone?
Or, try what I mentioned above. Do a factory reset. Keep in mind, you will lose all your apps and data.
To do a factory reset, you need to go into Settings> SD and phone storage and select Factory Reset on the bottom.

If that doesn't work, then you can call at&t and do a warranty exchange. You have 1 yr warranty after the purchase date. This one year is if you bought it from at&t and not a second hand purchase.
my phone freezes up multiple times a day and i have to take out the battery in order to get it to work. Does anyone else have this problem?
What are you running
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I have not experienced that. A bit of information might help others to possibly help you, though. Can you tell us what ROM you're using, if the problem started recently, if it started after you installed a certain app, if you're over clocking or under clocking, and if you've tried to do a factory data reset?
Im running stock. The last time i tried to install a rom i ended up with the picture in the attachment. So i took it to the local T-Mobile kiosk and they replaced it for me. i re-rooted it but didnt rom it at all. And its been like this since i got the replacement phone. never had the problem before. (this was a week ago)
Pretty picture. Kidding, of course. Reminds me of messing with interlaced graphics on my old Amiga.
If it's been doing it since you got it chances are it's probably a hardware issue. I've not heard of rooting causing issues like that. Did you install any apps after you got it, specifically anything that runs/syncs in the background?
Nothing i didnt have on before. umm.. Go SMS and Launcher, Widget Locker...
I'd go the factory data reset route & not install any apps for a day or so and see how it runs. If all is OK, start reinstalling your apps 1 x 1, give each app a day to see if the problem starts up.
If you do a factory data reset and it's still doing it, then it's probably faulty hardware.
Yeah try a factory reset and see how that does. The rainbow screen looks like a gingerbread rom without the correct bootloaders.

So that's the mysterious rainbow screen I keep reading about. Thanks, because I had no idea what it looked like (thank goodness). The bottom part reminds me of Poltergeist "Don't go into the light..."
Is this new phone they gave you refurbished?
I used to have that problem all the time when i was stock... New ROM and it went bye bye...
Hah that picture you got there reminds me of when i stupidly flashed a gb kernel on froyo... still fixed it and matter of factly I'm using the same device right now were all newbs at some point, don't let it discourage you, just take it as a lesson learned and be more careful next time

So, I love this phone but have one issue that seems odd to me. As an example I am currently running pandora and tried opening the xda app which caused what appeared to be a fc but my phone kept running pandora and went to a black screen for a minute then a faded screen which eventually lead to a drop in data (briefly). Every thing was briefly unresponsive... It acted exactly like a reboot without rebooting. When I was able to unlock the screen I had no data service (briefly) and all apps closed. Xda app often fc's which is not a big deal to me but causing the black screen and data drop is concerning to me. I also had this happen when opening the phone info app while running nothing else. Should I be concerned about this? Software or hardware? I am running stock.
Edit: Have also had to reboot due to dropped data but it may have been during a switch between 4G or 3g even 1x.

same thing happens to me, not sure why. I went through and froze all bloat with titanium backup, and it still happens
It's not something I can make happen, just happens randomly. I have 5 days to return this so I would like to figure it out. If a software update would fix it I would just deal with it for now but I'm not sure what the problem is.

I just talked to Samsung on their live chat and they recommended I return the phone and exchange for new. I am still in the 14 day return window so I will ask for brand new even if I have to pay their $35 fee.

The policy is there is no $35 reatocking fee for the same phone swap. Don't let them tell you different. Your phone is DOA. Its a warranty exchange.

No.. tons of us have data issues. My phone hot booted in my hands the other night and it was the first time I experienced it, but I've seen reference to it before.
Your issues are not isolated.
I gave up with tech support and wishing a new phone would fix it and turned to third party development. My first time flashing a ROM. I used synergy and have been really thrilled with it.
Sucks to have to fix a brand new phone. Sucks to be a beta tester for Samsung and vzw.
Sorry for your troubles though.

I did not try wiping the phone because the first one was only nine days old and I had not done much with it. The second one lasted a day and now I am on my third. I really hope this does not happen again. The people at the Verizon store said they have never heard of this..... They think it's an app... I only have 12 apps installed. I don't know what I'm going to do if this happens with this phone. This is frustrating. I do not want to get stuck with a phone that has a problem like this.

Mine does the same thing. Besides the stock stuff, I loaded Pandora, Google Music, Amazon MP3, and Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Master of the Seas game. It was nice enough to wait until just after the 14 day return window to start locking up and misbehaving. The only way I could get it back was to do a battery pull. Of course, when I brought it to the store it ran like a champ! If you can get another replacement, make sure it says 'UPDATED' on the box. Those have a newer kernel / baseband and seem to be working better.
All of mine have said updated on the box. I am trying to limit apps for now and will slowly add them if I have no issues.

Alright so I picked up a Sensation 6-7 months ago from my T-Mobile dealer. Ever since I picked it up, I took a break from the flashing/rooting scene.
In May/June, when the official ICS update was released, I installed it to see how it ran before I went full force into the rooting scene once again. Ever since I downloaded it, my phone will restart at random times. It's starting to become very frustrating especially when I use my phone for mostly business purposes. It ONLY started this AFTER I installed the official ICS update.
So onto the next step. What I've done soo far is as described
-tried different batteries
-formatted several SD cards, with no luck
-formatted the phone twice
-I always do hard resets at least twice a day
-done several tests on apparent rogue apps to see if there was a difference
Alright, so now I ask of my XDA family, obviously this has been a problem ever since the ICS update. I haven't done any rooting on this phone in case I DO happen to get it replaced since its still under warranty
The ultimate question is this, will rooting fix this issue FOR SURE or should I play the safe route and just get a replacement Sensation with it still being under the one year warranty? What would you guys do Im this situation? Any other suggestions to try before deciding one of these options? Don't wanna go through with the rooting if I just have to unroot it take it back to the T-Mo dealer days later.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

tried this ?
Thanks for the suggestion, but it wouldn't necessarily be a battery issue if it just started doing it once ICS was installed? Or could it have been a coincidence that it started rebooting when I did the update? Does the housing wear in after a certain time causing the battery connection to loosen?
Thanks.

I also use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683 (third post down) as I was in the same boat as you. I ran out of idea's to why my Sensation was always rebooting no matter what I did with countless different ROM's, Kernels etc and found that this battery_fix solved all my problems. Not had 1 reboot since Hope this helps
So just a little update. Ever since I tried the credit card trick, my phone hasn't restarted once. Roughly 2 full days. Done several things that I did before that would easily make the phone restart. Opened many apps at one time, drained the battery down to 3 percent and still no restart.
I'll keep testing this method for the next couple days but so far it seems like its been a good work around. Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction ganeshp!

Wtf happened? Has anyone else experienced their data go berserk after flashing a rom?

This was literally the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen, I got a text one minute that said. "You have reached 50% of your data for the month" 2 minutes later "75%" and a minute later, "you have reached your data for the month"
I wasnt even doing anything. My phone was just sitting there and I had not even downloaded 1 app yet. It was right after the flash.
Go to System settings > data usage. You can move the bars to specify a time period and it will tell you what ate up your data during that time.

I think it's fixed though, my data has settled back down and seems to be running smooth after reverting back to stock and then flashing a touch wiz rom
