So I noticed that the latest Tweetdeck update disables the ability to post longer than 140 characters. Is there a way to tell market I don't want to update the app? The problem arises in that there are a number of other apps which are due for automatic update. But because of Tweetdeck I'll have to save the apk, uninstall, update all.
I use the 3party app to disable it.
maybe u could try it, download "lidroid tool box" from market, & disable the update notice from Auto Start.
Open the market, Menu > My Apps > Pick the app > look for the check box that says "Allow Automatic Updating" and uncheck it

It's not that it was automatically updating. It's that if there is a list of many apps to be updated, I can't use the update all functionality as the app is in the list that is up for updating. Instead I have to manually choose to update each app.
What bugs me is I have unchecked automatically updating for every application on my tab and it still checks for updates on every start.
"Updates Available" appears every time......yes I know, Don't need them!

ah... yea I dont know what to tell you on that one. maybe find a 3rd party app that allows a little more control over it? I'm sure there's one out there that can do it.

*install Astro
*backup your app (tweetdeck you said? i'll just say that )
*uninstall tweetdeck
*install the backed-up APK
*it will no longer show up in your 'my apps' list.
Return to the Market with me, then I can not download because the connection timeout error.
Suddenly my optimus 3D dont allow install apk from sd and i can´t download from market, download never end or the install button appear dislable.
Any idea?
Are you a rooted user who has used a task manager to stop some auto running apps? If so you probably need to reset the auto run permissions for the market app.
If not, have you checked that you have the "allow non market apps" option ticked in the phones settings menu under the applications section? This enables installation of apps from places other than the android market.
Dave
maybe!!!!

If you didn't change any settings using a task manager then market should be fine but if you want to check you can install an apps manager (I use the gemini app manager which is free on the android market so can only tell you how to do it with this app though it should be the same for most similar software).
Start the app manager and you will see a list of programs that are on your phone, scroll down the list until you see the android market app showing (it will just say "market" and a pic that looks like a green suitcase next to it).
Click on that picture and a menu appears with lots of choices.
Choose the choice that says "configure auto run" and after a few seconds it will show you a screen that has lots of writing on with "on/off" sliders at the right of the screen.
Basically if these are all green then the problem is not the market apps permissions. If any are not green just touch them and they will turn green. When all are green again just hit your phones back button and see if market now works properly.

During the day I get bored at work and tend to flash a bunch of ROMs just to see what they're all about. I keep all my apps and data backed up via Titanium Backup but I don't always want to restore them because chances are I'll just be on that ROM for an hour or two.
Google Play always starts installing all my apps right away. Usually I don't have strong 3G signal and back when I was on my Incredible it caused my phone to freak out and boot loop. Can this feature be turned off somewhere? I swear I've looked everywhere and can't find anything. It's SUPER annoying to have a device automatically do something for you without having control...
when you install youre new you have the choice to have a backup if you dissmiss i remenber gp doesn't install app
In Google Play store, go to Settings and you should see an option called 'Auto-update apps' or something similar. Simply uncheck that box and all should be fine.

I've unchecked that box, it only pertains to using the apps once they've installed. Even with this box unchecked Play still starts to install everything upon first booting into my new ROM

There should be a prompt once you try to connect your device to your Google account.

Just had to deal with this off a clean install. None of the fixes here worked, but I was able to stop all the app downloads by just opening the play store as soon as it booted and just cancel the downloads. It never tried to re-download them again.

After a fresh new rom installed, to avoid auto restore apps from google play:
Go to settings, “backup & restore” and uncheck “backup my data”. < way from AOSP rom.
Or just don't sign into your Google account after you flash a ROM if you just want to check it out. Easiest solution right there.
i think it would help if you turned off auto sync in settings
deactive autoupdate in every app in play store.

Hello!!
This is a simple workaround to prevent the google service (com.google.android.gms-1.apk) that creates the anonying green Google Settings icon.

Hello, test yourself, make a nandroid backup and check if it is relationed.
If it is relationed tell me, post there the results.
all this did was prevent me getting into playstore it opened itself and then closed itself????? thanks
Wouldn't it be easier to just go to the Google Play Services app info page and deactivate it? (Just long press in the app drawer and move it to app info)
Or is there any downside that I am not seeing? (besides it taking up a few kb of space)
I didn't test it since I don't mind the icon.
If you have a custom launcher that can can hide apps use that, that way you also keep the functionality it provides.

Not, you can't disable it, this service autostarts automatically. It takes more than few kb, takes about 5MB or more, but this is not the bad.
The bad thing is this could be something relationed with ads and system stadistics and google plus forced by google (remember google don't be evil).

I am not talking about closing it but deactivating it. Are we talking about the same option?
Because I have that option.
Why would it restart when I deactivate it? Or is Google not consequent enough here?
I don't want to try it since it will delete all user data and delete the updates.
But you are right, the app is bigger than I thought (both on the storage and RAM).

Sure?? I remember when I tried for first time that no....... it doesn't remove any user data, you are wrong..... the settings are stored in com.android.settings and com.android.settings.provider
About the updates it doesn't remove the updates.... the updates are part of playstore.apk/vending.apk and marketupdater.apk, not this.
I have news about playstore remote installation, it works!!!!! without this.
I have three buttons in my google play services app info:
'Beenden erzwingen' - force close ?
'Updates deinstallieren' - uninstall updates
AND
'Deaktivieren' - deactivate
If I hit the deactivate button it asks me if I want to reset all user data and all updates.
Are you perhaps on an older android version that does not yet have this?

Mine is Gingerbread (Cyanogen Mod 7.2).
Deactivate is like do nothing. For example, I can with systemcleaner put this service apk on the blacklist , but every time that the service starts the application kills like task killer, but this is bad for CPU,RAM and finally batteries, because it scales the cpu mhz up every time that the service tries to reload.
Is the same that if you put a task killer, you can kill the application but it reload again....
I think that the newer versions of playstore/vending calls automatically this apk service.
The solution is to remove and there is no apk = no application installed = no intent receiver = no aplication starts.
The odex file prevent that android application installer (pacman?) install/update the android play service application apk.
This is because if you create a odex of any apk that you have installed and then delete the apk (no the odex), then reset. You could check that the application disapear from app drawler and android application manager but there is the odex file with the same name of the application. But now if you try to reinstall, the android application shows the message of insufficient space only for this application, you can install any other without problem. This is because the android application installer detects the odex file.
My solution is based on this.
Bye.

Deactivate != force close.
They are NOT the same thing.
A deactivated app will not react to any intents. This is completely different from what a task killer does.
But user without Jelly Bean (I think that is the version this option came with) won't be able to do that.
So I guess that deleting the app and then blocking it is the only option for them.

I would recommed that you test it (deactivate) and check with adb shell and top command or "ps" to check if the service runs.
I had JB in the past and I was unable to deactivate. Every time that I entered in the playstore app , the Google services apk was called and running.
Not working

There is a lot more going on here. These Google Excreta Droppers are spying on us. I disabled it in startup, and it adds back itself.
The Google Play Services is pushed back in around 2 days after you uninstall. Within these 2 or three days, the Google Play wont install or download any app, it just shows the running bar. Now they have changed the color of their feces. I disabled the Google Play Services. and when I updated the youtube and run it, It says I cannot use it without Google Play Services. I uninstalled the update and it runs like before.
rotten Poop!!
They are definitely spying on us.
I advice you all the users, Do not sit relax. These feces holes should get serious piles, so that their feces accumulate in their bodies and never come out. It will happen.
Man havent you experienced this?
Should I use clock work mod recovery boot to install the attached zip?
And please let me know whether it will allow me to run updated youtube and other services without the Google Play Services.
Will the blank fix everything as before?
try getting amazon market not quite google but nearenuf.

Hmm.. This Google setting app might become useful after this May or in Android 5.0, key lime pie.. Since it's not hogging ram or consuming battery, why not just hide it?

Google settings has a separate app icon nowadays.
Hope so that it got hidden in any app groups. You need to check in the app groups.
If all the google apps will be inside any app group (Folder like thing). It might be inside that.
