I have a Chinese Honor 8 and have installed Google on it. Everything works fine but I cannot access the Google settings page. I know its there because I seen it pop up once asking if I want to enable Android Device manager.
Any idea how I can access it? When I go to accounts -> google and click on it, nothing happens.

Google settings has a separate app icon nowadays.
Hope so that it got hidden in any app groups. You need to check in the app groups.
If all the google apps will be inside any app group (Folder like thing). It might be inside that.

There's no icon for it, I checked everywhere.
On my other phones on Android 6 I must go to the Google account and the settings opens when you click on it. On this phone, nothing happens.
Did you install Google play services? The Google settings apps comes with it.

Yes of course. Everything works perfect and I know the Google settings app is there because it asked me something about device manager and I saw the Google settings. But there is no way for me to access it by myself.

Too lazy Anyway I found a workaround solution using the app QuickShortcutMaker. You can choose Google Play Services there and the created shortcut opens google settings.

Try with searching the settings by swiping downwards in home screen...
Let us know the result. So that we can get a clear idea on the thing.
Also thanks for mentioning the app name to do the workaround.

First thing I tried was the search, it couldn't find it. I spent literally an hour looking through the phone for a way to access the google settings. Using that app to create the shortcut was the only thing that worked.
Your probing for the solution and posting the solution for it will be useful for future people. Thank you...

Greetings,
Google Search no longer finds applications on my device.
When I tap the magnifying glass shortcut key, the familiar search window opens. If I type "calc," several search suggestions and several of my contacts appear, but the calc app does not.
I can scroll to the bottom of the found contacts and tap, "Search phone." When I do, another window opens, with a slidable bar across the bottom which says, "Web, Images, Places, More ..." and "Phone" is highlighted in red, but no results for "calc" are found.
When I open the drawer and use GoLauncher's search, the calc app is found immediately.
Why is this happening? It used to work.
Thank you!
My phone is an E4GT running stock 4.1.2 with Google Search v2.6.7.721924.arm. I'm not running Now.

Hello,
I am having the same problem And whatever you are saying is 100% correct.. It you searched any damn app from that Google Search bar, You could get that App in results.. Not just system apps!
I thought this could be because of some third party app so I booted my Note II into safe mode and checked.. But still does not show any apps.. SO I guess problem might me with the Search itself..
I am trying to get the core of the issue and would like some details about your phone like:
1. Do you use any optimizer or Cache cleaner? If yes, How regularly do you use it? ( I use one called Clean master and I clean the cache once in about 15 days)
2. How many app are there on your mobile approximately? (I have about 240)
Otherwise our phone is in identical state.. Also if you have already found the solution, please lemme know.
Cheers
EDIT:
Never Mind I found the solution and it works for me at least. Go to settings and then Applications.. GO to Google Search (The one with the blue icon) and select it.. Force stop the app and then clear data... Restart the app and VOLLA it is showint the apps too :victory: :victory:
If I helped, dont forget to say thanks
Cheers
Google think that almost every device running android, is their device. Therefore they implemented a service within Google Play Services that will connect your device often to the Google and it will drain more battery then needed.
NOTE:
I tried a method that was shown on i think this forum or another one. I can't remember which one it was, and i cant find the thread either.
So before i am going to start this, i wanna thank the guy from the original thread for this, even if i dont know where i can find you. I am only sharing this so i take NO CREDITS.
I repeat, i am ONLY sharing this.
+ Works with:
- AOSP roms
- TW roms
- Well, basicly all android running devices :fingers-crossed:
To start with:
- Turn of location settings
- Go to settings, accounts and go to your google account.
+ go to advertisements and untick the toggle that says that Google takes care of your advertisements.
Most important:
- Download Adaway (latest) from HERE.
Thank you @mrRobinson for this awesome app!
- Open adAway and provide Adaway root access.
- Press the menu button and go to your own custom list.
- Now add a line by pressing the + button in the upper right of the screen.
- Add the following line < mtalk.google.com >
- Make sure the the checkmark is ON with the "mtalk.google.com" line.
- Now go back to the homescreen of adAway, apply the patch.
Note: According to the maker of the original thread, this seems to be the server that your device is always trying to communicate with. So by blacklisting this URL, there is no connection anymore.
Note 2: Cyanogenmod (and maybe other AOSP or GE users) are experiencing that the Blue highlighted WI-FI icon and the blue highlighted antenna icon are now GREY after applying this.
This is because you are not connected anymore to the google servers.
Note 3: Keep in mind that you can still manual synchronise your calander, contacts, Gmail, and other Google account related.

This (syncing) only applies for manual updates. Leaving the entry in Adaway will disable auto-updates. Not a viable option for me, am not going to manually refresh Google apps...

Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for this.
I don't think Ad away works as it should though.
It says its syncing and merging with my current hosts file but after doing that my hosts file goes from 1.4mb to 700kb. So all its doing is deleting stuff. Weird

I always delete GooglePlayServices and never have any problems with apps updating.
I still get notifications in my status bar telling me when there is an app update available in the Play Store and also still get my Gmail notifications in my status bar.
Syncing works perfectly and so does Maps, Google Search, YouTube etc.
I actually can't see ANY reason to have GooglePlayServices installed.
All my Google apps still function perfectly without it.
And I no longer have RAM wasted and battery used up by this annoying app!!
My advice to everyone, delete it, it's not needed at all.

Was pretty euphoric when I read this so immediately disabled Play Services and rebooted like a happy little kid
That level of joy didn't last long:
Maps, Calendar, Keep, Youtube, these all need G.P.S. to function properly. Maybe even more apps but this is where I stopped.
Needless to say turned it back on again. This, as well, is not a viable option for me

That's odd, I don't get Google Maps requesting Play services on my device.
I do get one of those notifications after wiping cache and dalvik cache though, I just swipe it away and carry on as normal.
After you swiped them away can you still use the apps requesting it?
For example when I first boot up YouTube after wiping cache it says it needs PlayServices to run but I just ignore and cancel it.
I have never lost any YouTube functionality at all.

Some yes, some no. Keep refused to work. Anyway, can easily make it through the end of the day anyway and will always charge at night so no biggie but all small bits can help of course. This fix is a bit too coarse, for me that is of course
Just found out something about our Android phones.. Under application manager, if you scroll to google play services and scroll down to all the things you give the app permission for, you will be surprised at what it does. Is there a way to change these particular actions.. I'm not to thrilled about google being able to record everything you say without your knowledge.
I am running MOAR ROM.,but in settings there's app permissions. Check that out.

Hi all,
I use Google on Tap alot in my studies in order to translate what's on my screen, including images. I did not use it much in December. However I tried using it today and now I can't access Google on Tap, instead it's completely replaced with "Enable Google Assistant", which I DO NOT want, since it lacks the one feature I use most!
Changing to an unsupported English language region used to stop Google Assistant hijacking the long press home, but now it seems that all of the language regions are supported by Google Assistant now.
Google searches show many results for enabling Google Ass, or outdated methods for disabling it.
Does anyone know another way to disable Google Assistant permanently?
Maybe some modification of the settings in Google menu could do the trick. Did you already tried with a simple method like this one https://www.skyneel.com/disable-google-assistant for example?

I can disable Google Assistant, however, previously it would show Google Now on Tap afterwards. Instead, it is completely replaced by the notification from the screenshot. I can find no other way in the Google settings to change back.
Disabling the feed does not disable Google Ass anymore, so that method no longer works.

Clarify me just a thing: with Google on Tap, you mean that feature that display infos on what's on screen, after that the home button is long-pressed?

Yup, that one. It scans a screenshot for names, locations, potential translations etc.
I read that Google Assistant has a "what's on my screen" button but that doesn't show on my phone, and I generally dislike that Google Assistant insists on mic being enabled. (voice search - not my thing - it's so impolite to talk to your phone when 1) in company or 2) in class.)

Ok perfect, got it. Yeah i dislike those mandatory to work permissions too, I've denied everyone of those. Try this so to find that option; go on Google app -> settings -> research from screen, and activate the first option. The sub-menu that contains the option to which I'm referring is the fourth from the bottom, in the menu visible in the screenshot that i attached. Lemme know if it'll works.

That is what I used to get to (more or less). But now it's all replaced by the attached screen shot.
I think it's technically Google on Tap, but after being disabled by Google Assistant. It's the same frame that Google on Tap uses, you see.
