Hehe, we were all there at one point, no worries man! I'm still learning
Download the zip file, rename it "bootanimation.zip" and move it to your data\local folder (overwriting the exisiting one).
I believe it's a little different if you're on a stock rooted ROM tho.
Hope this helps

Thanks very much! Ya I'm using a stock rom so I'm going to have to move that elsewhere. I believe it was under system/customize/resource. I'm going to have to download this bad boy and find out!
We are all noobs in something or something else...
If you have the stock rom rename it ATT_bootanimation.zip and copy it in the folder system/customize/resource/
use ROOT EXPLORER and when you are in the folder above just push the Mount R/W button before you paste it...
And you should be all set...

800x480 means that the larger side is the base??
(sorry i don't know how the EVO works...)
If the res is 480x800 (shorter side as base) than it'll work just fine..
Very nice. Clean and subtle.
I am running android revolution rom, can i not just install zip from sd in recovery and do it?
Is there any way to modify this bootanimation so that the "quietly rooted" screen stays on until the lockscreen/OS show? On CM7, I get a black screen almost immediately after the "quietly rooted" text shows up, and then a few seconds later the lockscreen appears. I've started using the Android Scribble bootanimation for the time being, but I really prefer this one. Thanks in advance!
Im loving this boot animation. Thanks
Love it. +1. But, because I also love the brilliant boot animation of TPC's optimized stock ROM, I ended up extracting the last frame from the zip and installing it as my splash screen, which works great.
I would like to add "with TPC optimized stock ROM" or some other language to the image, but can't quite match the "quietly rooted" font. Can you please tell me what font it is?
Mucho thanks.
Well actually it isn't a font. "quietly brilliant" is really handwritten... I recreate the letters for "rooted" using the ones in the original line as models... what you ask could be done but its quietly a pain in the butt.... lolol
I suggest you to use a complete different font an add it like a sort of tag underneath the qr line...

Yep; the animation works fine, it just cuts to a black screen for an extended period of time after the "Quietly Rooted" text shows before the lockscreen pops up.

Here's a flashable zip for the halo bootanimation. The first one is for people that are running a rom with the bootanimation located in system/customize/resource. The second is for people that are running a rom with the bootanimation located in system/media. The first one has the sound included but the second one does not because there is not a way to use sound for the bootanimation on a rom that has the bootanimation located in system/media. Just wipe dalvik/cache and flash.

wow again u should make a thread with all your anims man unless u have one and i missed that ..
This looks pretty sweet.
One thing though, for those with roms using the system/media folder. You can add any boot sound you like, just make or get your mp3 file.
Using Root explorer
Rename the file to android_audio.mp3
Then copy the file to the system/media folder.
i Love it and i'm not even a Halo fan but i want this Boot animation

I just tried renaming and moving the audio like u said and it did not work. I've been looking for awhile to find a way to add the audio on roms that store the bootanimation in system/media but haven't had any luck so I was really hoping this would be the answer. Question, I take it u have done this and it worked so can u tell me what rom u are currently running that u were able to do this. Just curious to see if its a sense rom or aosp. Thanks.

First I would like to say thank you for creating that. It looks pretty awesome.
Also, I have an HTC Evo with MikFroyo 4.4 Which one would I use for my setup? I have not done any custom bootscreens or anything like that, so this is new to me.
And lastly, do you have any other animations out there? If your work here is any sign, I would like to see what else you have come up with.
Thank you,

Love this boot animation!! I personally can't wait til the Star wars one.. keep up the good work
This is the boot animation taken directly from the Nexus S, I installed root explorer and sent the animation to my phone. No resizing was needed as it looks awesome without it, plus I tried to resize it and it looked funny. I think it looks cool so I thought I'd post it for others to enjoy. There are two versions:
Version 1:
1. Download and move to the system/media partition and overwrite your existing bootanimation.zip
Version 2:
1. This is a flashable zip using edify script so it will work in clockwork 3.0+
If you like it give me a thanks. If not speak your mind. I'm trying to be a more constructive member of this society hehe.

Sure, if you have another boot animation. Use a file manager to go to system/media, make a copy of the boot animation there and move it someplace else. Then just move the new one into system/media. It will ask if you want to over write, say yes, and reboot. Then, to go back, just move the copy you made back to system/media. Cake and pie.
If you have problems, gimmie a shout, and I can walk you through it.

This looks awesome.... great work man
Hey all, I know this is old but I couldn't find the honeycomb bootanimation in these forums. I wanted it to fully complete my honeycomb theme for CM7, and after some digging around I managed to find it on another forum.
EDIT:As per request, I've made a few flashable zips for this bootanimation. I've tested each out and they should work if your using CWM3, sorry about the previous posting of flashable zip that didn't work! I've corrected the mistake and hope that you all enjoy this animation as much as I do.
If you haven't completely read this thread and are new to the rooting 'scene' each rom is different, the animations can be placed into different places depending on what your running be it /data/local/ , /system/media/ , or /system/customize/resource/ . It's up to YOU to know where it belongs as I've made each zip for each location. If you don't know where it belongs, get to reading your roms thread in the Dev section and see if there is any information there.
And remember.. NANDROID first!! I will not be held responsible for anything happening to your phone or life because of this. Although if the flash fails you'll either be left with your original animation or a black screen. I'd much rather you use Root Explorer or some other file manager with root access to do this so you'll know where to place the bootanimation.zip in the future.. but thats completely up to you.
Enjoy and let me know if this works/doesn't work and I'll do my best to help you- I'm not a serious developer nor will I take the title of devoloper as I only have a basic understanding of code and how the android system works.
Anyone want to make this a flashable zip? I would be eternally greatful! Also what are the dimensions on this guy? Fit an incredible screen?
Yup I have it running on mine and it looks GORGEOUS.

I've tried other apps that say root explorer, but couldn't get them to work. They might work but I bought root explorer, easy and well worth the money. On two different roms i've used you have to place the zip in system \customize\resource and name it exactly like the existing bootanimation. Same with audio. Example VZW_bootanimation.zip just rename original adding (.bak) incase you need to go back.

What permissions should it have? So far I've been unable to get it to work. I either get the default "android" or a black screen. Either way it boots anyway so I guess it doesn't really matter, but it's just fun to change things around some.

Hello there! I am re-posting this from the Mytouch 3G thread which can be seen here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6507176#post6507176
I have made some slight modifications in order to make this work on the Evo Shift.
This is a Evo Shift tool to easily convert images in splash screen ones.
This tool is based upon ffmpeg and you need it installed on your system before proceeding (it will prompt you about the program missing in any case)
REQUIREMENTS
ffmpeg installed on your system
a 480x800 image
a 480x800 device (i.e. Evo Shift) with engineering SPL
USAGE
Code:
./ElegosSplashCreator.txt --help or -h
Prints out how to use the script
Make sure that the script and image you are converting are both in the same directory that you are in in the command line (Terminal)
Code:
./ElegosSplashCreator.txt your_image_file
Converts your image into a flashable splash screen, if you want the script will continue flashing the file directly.
I ASSUME NO RESPONSABILITY ABOUT THE USAGE OF THIS SCRIPT. USE IT "AS IS", LOOK AT THE OUTPUTS AND YOU'LL AVOID BRICKS!
Please, if you wish to redistribute this script, give the right credits and don't change the prog_header please (maybe link this discussion in a text file)!
Make ElegosSplashCreator.txt executable permissions (right click on file and go to Properties > Permissions, then make executable) and use it!
Here's mine, feel free to post your own folks
Flash these Splash Screens at your own risk. It is not my fault if you have a faulty usb cable or computer, or accidently unplug your phone while flashing! But the chance of a soft brick is very small
Fastboot images to flash in fastboot:
Here is a .zip attached below with all these splash screens ready to flash in fastboot with pics that match the names of each image to flash
How to flash: fastboot flash splash1 name.raw565
Cool. Thanks for this sparksco I'll give it a whirl.

Two things:
First of all the pic that you attached needs to be 480x800 (the attached pic is 495x800). I know it's only 15 pixels, but it screws things up.
Second, for the life of me I can't figure out the script in the OP. I do my splash screens an entirely different way. Have you tried the script in the OP?
By the way, if you end up using this as a splash screen, don't forget to hit "Thanks"'

what I do is I put both the script and the pic in my home folder. That way when I open up terminal (command shell) I can run the script that way. The bottom of the OP shows how to run the script. He probably does not have linux set up or knows how to use it. It's common among a lot of android root users. That's why I posted mine to be flashable ready in a zip.

How's this working out for everyone else? 25 views on my splash screens and no responses. Guess I'll take that as a good sign of not that many issues...
Works good I got tired of that bright white htc screen so I got the black htc color splash screen, looks great! Thanks for the great work!

Here is mine. I can't remember where I got it though. If anyone wants me to find the thread I will.

Sweet. That's all I needed to know. Bout to take this shift back to best buy ... just remembered i signed up for their buy back and I have an extra shift so I can't lose.
I have a request for all you creative folks out there. I just upgraded to ICS and I would LOVE to have a bootanimation resembling the retro BIOS style found in an old thread. Anyone interested as well?
EDIT: It might be sufficient to update the Android version in the HC bootanimation actually. Anything else would be just the cherry on top!
Thanks y'all!

If I remember correctly it goes in
/system/media
and just replace the bootanimation.zip

Here you go, I wanted one myself so I edited the images to remove the references to v3.1, and also added separate animations for both 16GB NAND and 32 GB NAND versions. Hope this is what you were looking for!
Simply choose your NAND size and rename the file 'bootanimation.zip' and it should work
It goes in "/Data/Local"

Nope, goes in 'system/media'..at least that is where I put mine at..
If you downloaded before this post, do it again, I missed a single frame on the 16GB NAND animation and it flashed to 32GB for a split second. This updated upload fixes it.
i use this on my tf101 and i like it

Linux devices still have a bios, this boot doesn't say windows anywhere, nor is a bios Windows exclusive..so, not getting your point, this is what the op wanted, why give them something they didn't request?
i put it for who wants something cool on the tablet when it start
I really can't do a proper Ice cream sandwich mascot ASCII art...
hope one of you guys will do it !
thanks luna for getting closer from what i'd like.
and deejayviral you should add your bootanimation on a threat were people post theirs like : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101535
I just noticed when i booted up my Transformer that I missed the reference to 3.1 in the beginning. I'm going to fix it and make some sort of animated progress bar for the second half of the animation.

You can also use bootanimation.zip in data/local
This is good for those that don't have root, they can push the bootanimation.zip using adb to data/local. Putting bootanimation.zip here leave the original bootanimation.zip in system/media untouch. Just delete the one in data/local to get back to original bootanimation.zip
I have the BIOS portion edited to show 4.0 and upto 2012 for the "copyrights" LOL.
Trying to find a good second parts to add to it.
BIOS style edited to 4.0
