they might be well known to you and a few others, but that fact I have not seen it in the inc forums tells me its not THAT well known, or else it would have been posted here already.
I think a greater reason you don't see more posted is because root users have wireless tether or the hacked hotspot so there is no need for PDANet (unless you need it wired).

well yes and no. there is still a lot of people out there that just want apps/ themes without the and I know this sounds funny but the "hassle" of rooting. not just that but its is an app/ theme section lol. +1

Well, to be honest I appreciate the post.
I remember when I was waiting and waiting for root on this phone, so I had to use this app for a data connection in my apartment before I got internet access.
I had forgotten all about it until you posted this up. Though I wouldn't use the tethering feature, I have my phone plugged into my computer whenever I'm on my computer, and it would be way more convenient to just type in on the screen than moving my hand from my keyboard to pick up the phone, power button, unlock, read text message, click on text input space, and then type onscreen.
So thank you
Silly iPhones, Android has native hotspot and USB tethering...HAHA no need for extra apps....GO TAKE A LAP SIR
New at&t Inspire can not root
I have most of my new Inspire software loaded. It is running 2.2.1 and I can not root it. I have been a WM guy for years and know UNIX pretty well. I used SuperOneClick v1.9.1 several time and it does root it until I boot the device.
It loads the icon then when it asks me to reboot phone all the rooting goes away. I am hoping to not have to purchase PDA.net as by last option.
I am not even sure it will work with 2.2.1.
Please help !!!
I think you need the AT&T Inspire forum, not the Verizon Droid Incredible forum. Please post your question here for better responses: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1015

Hello guys, I'm new to the site and I just have 1 question (that I have googled for about 3 hours without success).
I just got my G2X and rooted it via superoneclick as soon as I got it. I am having problems with the wifi tethering and have read that tmobile has filtered tethering on plans without the plan but I refuse to believe that they would be able to filter 3rd party tethering apps. I have tried about 4 different third party apps and the stock program. They always send out a signal but cannot connect to anything (tried on 2 different laptops). Can someone shed some light on what's going on? any help is greatly appreciated.
I noticed to get the built in tether program working for my netbook I had to do an "ipconfig /release" then an "ipconfig /renew" from the command line after wifi had connected.
The wifi tethering program from the google code site worked out of the box but protection wouldn't work, and I had no desire to share my phone to the whole hotel
What do you mean protection doesn't work? Thr set password works fine for me

Today is not working. I made 2 reset. I have always error in portable wifi hotspot

I'm still not able to connect the blackberry

It would show two networks, one protected, one not, the protected one didn't work and anyone could connect to the unprotected one
I pay for tethering on one of my phones (mine) and am trying it now for the 1st time....very fast. Wouldn't connect at first then I let windows do a troubleshoot and it corrected the issue. Seems to work well. I've been having a lot of power failures this year so want to ensure my wife can have internet for her work.
But I think I've read that the providers can't prevent tethering apps from working. Haven't I heard they are preventing the tethering apps from being seen through their Market apps?
They may detect the extra usage though.

So this is pretty random and I've done some searches and can't seem to find anything, probably because no one would care enough to do something like this besides me.
The problem: I'm a MS consultant and am tired of hearing **** from my WP7 friends and colleagues.
The ask: Is there a way to mask/disguise/FAKE the OS I have when working with social networking sites? Primarily Facebook for now, you know the "sent via Windows Phone" or "posted by HTC Sense", "Android", etc.
Anyone know how to change/hack/tweek that without changing phones/OS's entirely?
You could just post from their mobile sites and it will say posted from _____ mobile. You can also post from the main site from your phone and it's like posting from your computer.
I know this isn't really what you asked at all, but it will help with your issue.

Caring about being made fun of by windows fanboys for using a linux based phone to me is like caring about being made fun of because you dont huff fumes from an aerosol can. Always annoys me that some group or person can be so blinded to see that there is more than one alternative that works for people and it doesnt always come from the same source
Some applications let you remove that signature or set what it says. However, the easiest solution would be not to use the application and use the browser in the site. If they dont let you set it, then you have to modify the apk or modify the build.conf file in /system (which may or may not mess things up for other applications that depend on that). It's most likely picking up the make/model from that.
If it bothers you that much, you probably need new friends and ignore the coworkers you have to see regardless. Your current ones suck and have drank the koolaid.
Your problem also reminded me of the following penny arcade comic (ignore the phones in question, just the general overtone of the comic is what is related):

I guess I should have clarified. I'd love nothing more than my posts to start saying Windows Phone and seeing their false appreciation and excitement only to see me still rocking my TB with CM once I actually see them.
Was just a question, thought maybe someone else might have had some hack to alter it somehow.

Ah okay, you just want to one up them in a slightly smartass way . Generally as mentioned, it's just a setting in apps you can change, at least for things like email clients, but you probably looked in whatever you are using already.

Yeah, primarily it's the Android Facebook app for statuses and photo uploading. I wouldn't have the slightest idea on where to start in tweeking anything in it. Naturally I think the settings in the app wouldn't allow me to change that.
I looked around here and didn't see any threads like this one so I made a new one.
My friend just got a Samsung T528G smart phone. It is a straight talk phone. I don't think it can be done but does anyone know if you can use the phone as a modem for a PC to have an internet connection? Or even turn the WIFI feature into a hotspot?

I've done some digging on this very same phone because I'm trying to figure out how to side load "java" apps on the insanely greedy TouchWiz OS. You can tether the phone, but its "locked" out because StraightTalk does not want you doing this. I have not actually read up on it yet, as I'm still trying unlock, and sideload mode; but apparently its against the end user agreement to tether. Thank goodness my wife hates her T528G and we'll be getting her an Android phone as soon as possible. I came to XDA to see if there was any cool tricks I could do with the T528G myself, in all fairness to the phone, it does what its supposed to do, and is intended to be an entry level "smart phone".

My brother and I are working on putting Android on an HTC Kieser to get my wife of the 528... I dislike the Windows mobile, and I don't like working with it, that is why we're trying to put Android on it. I know it can be done, has been done.

If you did manage to get Android on it, it would likely be so slow, you wouldn't want to use it anyway.
the smartphone is useless.
unless the owner of the phone is smart enough to use the smartphone

When i tether on wifi hot spot or usb tether to my laptop (my friends connect their iPods and phones to them all the time and i never get compaints) it redirects what ever page i want to go on to a T-Mobile page trying to get me to pay for tethering. I can easily get around it with a proxy but sometimes i can't use it. Is there anyway around this?
I wonder if this means T-mobile is finally controlling tethering by packet filtering along with IMEI tracking?
Change user agent string in your browser to android. Both firefox and chrome have extensions for that.

They shut me down last week as well, and I was tethering using CM7's built-in hotspot feature. Using a VPN or changing your browser ID will get around it.
I don't get it.. I was able to tether even before I rooted. Not long ago my wife and I went on a vacation, and the rooms didn't have Wi-Fi like we thought. Tethering to my phone really saved us. Did they block it or something?? I haven't tried it since then.

Yes, they seem to have started enforcing their requirement to have a tethering plan sometime in the last week or two.
I have noticed since posting that it is intermittently working....sometimes I can tether and other times I cannot but I never get the t mobile tether screen on my computer I just get an error message on the phone so Idk if I have been caught or not lol

create a new apn called whatever. put the apn in as epc.t-mobile.com and save it. select it as the default and reboot. All is now good.
Or, if it is a sensation, head over to the dev forum and download one of the unlocked tmo specific roms. they work.

Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
I believe if you use a tether app from the play store tmobile won't detect it. Usually only happens when you use the stock app that is programmed to check If you have tethering package.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
It's happened to me before when I used a tethering app too..however after some research I found an easy workaround to it!
Apparently, this is caused by T-Mobile doing something with Chrome browser which causes some of the packets/strings sent to block it, or something along those lines.. I am not exactly sure how it works, but a solution is to use Mozilla Firefox or an alternate browser - I have been doing this for a while, and it has been working perfectly
Hope I helped!
In the HTC Sensation forum there are now several ROMs that address this and unlock the APN, fixing tethering across the board for any app. Apparently there is a tethering specifier in the default APN. The reason Firefox works is probably due to the user agent string it passes.
