[Q] Mask your OS with Social Networking - Thunderbolt General

So this is pretty random and I've done some searches and can't seem to find anything, probably because no one would care enough to do something like this besides me.
The problem: I'm a MS consultant and am tired of hearing **** from my WP7 friends and colleagues.
The ask: Is there a way to mask/disguise/FAKE the OS I have when working with social networking sites? Primarily Facebook for now, you know the "sent via Windows Phone" or "posted by HTC Sense", "Android", etc.
Anyone know how to change/hack/tweek that without changing phones/OS's entirely?

You could just post from their mobile sites and it will say posted from _____ mobile. You can also post from the main site from your phone and it's like posting from your computer.
I know this isn't really what you asked at all, but it will help with your issue.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

Caring about being made fun of by windows fanboys for using a linux based phone to me is like caring about being made fun of because you dont huff fumes from an aerosol can. Always annoys me that some group or person can be so blinded to see that there is more than one alternative that works for people and it doesnt always come from the same source
Some applications let you remove that signature or set what it says. However, the easiest solution would be not to use the application and use the browser in the site. If they dont let you set it, then you have to modify the apk or modify the build.conf file in /system (which may or may not mess things up for other applications that depend on that). It's most likely picking up the make/model from that.
If it bothers you that much, you probably need new friends and ignore the coworkers you have to see regardless. Your current ones suck and have drank the koolaid.
Your problem also reminded me of the following penny arcade comic (ignore the phones in question, just the general overtone of the comic is what is related):

I guess I should have clarified. I'd love nothing more than my posts to start saying Windows Phone and seeing their false appreciation and excitement only to see me still rocking my TB with CM once I actually see them.
Was just a question, thought maybe someone else might have had some hack to alter it somehow.

Ah okay, you just want to one up them in a slightly smartass way . Generally as mentioned, it's just a setting in apps you can change, at least for things like email clients, but you probably looked in whatever you are using already.

Yeah, primarily it's the Android Facebook app for statuses and photo uploading. I wouldn't have the slightest idea on where to start in tweeking anything in it. Naturally I think the settings in the app wouldn't allow me to change that.

quickgps?

hey guys, just started working at att and i requested the tilt as my company phone. well i got it yesterday, but i am completely pda/smartphone illiterate..
and i have been skimming over this forum but it minus well have been written in chinese...
so i read that quick gps is already loaded on the phone? i went through file explorer and couldn't find it anywhere... did i over look it?
also, the phone seems really laggy... from the screen switching from potrait to landscape... and there seems to be alot of lag in pressing the numbers on the touchscreen.
i've seen all the rom flashes and such... but is there a dummy guide to flashing the rom? do i download it onto my comp then move it over using active sync? does it matter what folder i put it under?
sorry for the stupid questions, but i tried my best to read through the threads but i couldn't seem to absorb anything...
-tj
mail me your phone, ill put quickgps on it and whatever custom rom you want..
couple of things
first off, try advanced search for the kaiser thread
second, coming from att might get you banned here... seems anyone that mentions xda on att forums gets banned
(i for one have been happy with the customer service)
there are plenty of guides to flashing, but basically you need to be careful. hook up to active sync and install hardspl, it won't look like anything happened so verify that you did it. then you're ready to flash your rom of choice. I use XDA Live, just keep in mind that flashing is risky and so you need to read read read... I'd stick with the stock rom for awhile anyway
quickgps is under programs BTW
this thread might be deleted just on the principal that there are a hundred like it
thanks for the info....
didn't know there was so much animosity between att workers and xda people...
i just work there to pay the bills and put food in the mouth... hopefully some of you know where im coming from...
also, to get my today screen to look like this....

not really interested in the bee in the background but more the layout of the today screen... im guessing that would require a rom flash? it just looks so much cleaner then the standard today screen...
-tj
To make your screen look like that, background excluded, all you need to do is to fing HTC Home cab file and install it. You do not need to change the ROM. Search... grasshopper...er bumble bee

[DEV-ONLY] IME in Landscape not to use full screen

While playing with android today, I discovered something in the docs which people have been looking for. (I remember there was a thread on this few days ago but couldn't find it now. :S) The docs tells you how to make the IME not cover the fullscreen.
Picture speaks a thousand words:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The decision is controlled by the App, the TextView itself by specifying android:imeOptions.
See here: http://developer.android.com/resources/articles/on-screen-inputs.html (Ctrl+F: flagNoExtractUi)
I hope this helps the devs.
omg some please make this happen

You realize this is up to the developer of every single application that you use. I know some of our local wiz devs can whip this into the stock open sourced apps, such as the browser (please!) and messaging. However, for 3rd party apps it is going to rely on the developers seeing this thread, taking interest in this idea, and implementing it.
So... you have an app you use, point your developers to this thread and ask for some love.
daveid is right.
The picture above is a quick hack on my Mms.apk. However, I do think it's possible to make it a default behavior. Need someone to force this to always on in the framework. That's dirty hack though, at least to me.

You were probably referring to my post. I knew I should have posted it in the dev section. My thread is of people saying they want it but with no progress. good job tho. hopefully we will start to see a fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666990
well you said that the app is what follows this restriction; to make it always use fullscreen. what if we just remove the feature from the IME.apk all together? is the noextract cmd written within the IME? if so we can make the app have to use the non full screen mode. perhaps set the parameters to zero on IME so fullscreen can never be called upon. just a thought. don't know that much about this stuff. could u share exactly what you did to make this work? just insert the noextract value in the apk and resign?

Or up to the devs of IME's to simulate that flag always being set. I'm looking into it in my mod anyway.

Sorry for noob question.
I use AppBrain as that saves a set of currently installed programs. It however does not do very good searches *or it does and then adds in sponsored apps*. Are there others like this?

Yes it keeps a list of apparently that you have installed. It also has auto update and will periodically look and find the updates that may be available and install them or you can set to only notify you and ask permission to update...hope this helps

It's the standard market, just the update. Some phones weren't getting it updated so it was a good post so people could get it. It's pretty sweet.
Just like microsoft, google put out and update that was supposed to be an improvement but is just bulkier, and harder to work with.
i think its stupid, the market should be simple and basic, it doesnt need to be a cluster f*** like itunes.
but appearantly google doesnt feel this way and is heading down the path of cluster f***edness.
clean and simple google, clean and simple.

Thanks a lot for having this here, more than I know how to express honestly haha.... I made my first screw up today and had to revert back to factory settings, but no Android Market App to be found after that happened. So you literally saved my tail lol. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Forum not displaying properly

The title pretty much sums it up.
I like to get caught up with a few specific rom-threads when I get a few minutes at work, but last night (at work), my GS3 wouldn't load the pages properly using the phones browser. No worries at the time, I figured I'll just catch up on my pc when I get home. So now I'm home on my pc, but I still get the same jumbled up pages. I am so not happy.
I use Firefox on the pc, but tried Chrome browser, and even IE-10. Cleared cookies and cache but get the same thing on all of em. Obviously I am not the only one this is happening to, so any info is appreciated.
I'm just hoping it's all back to normal when I get up tomorrow.
But tonight, I might actually have a problem getting to sleep without my daily dose of xda lol.
Edit- twitter said something about the hosting company doing something to the network.
a suggestion.
google play has a application for these forums, if you download that, that will help fix the display problems
hope that helps

Appreciate it and I already have a themed xda app, I just really prefer the phones browser. I might only spend 10-15 minutes browsing xda at work, so the phone not displaying it properly isn't that big a deal. But it's 8am here and still not displaying correctly on my win7 pc (or the phone browser), so I'm open to suggestions or ideas or anyone who could tell me whats up with xda. Probably spend more time on xda then almost all my other sites combined,so I'm pretty bummed right now.
It is not showing up properly for me either:

yup same.
Oh I thought it was just me...
Really, no one knows why all of a sudden xda isn't displaying properly? This is really annoying so maybe a mod will check in and let us know what is going on. As it is right now, the forum is really hard to follow and is basically unreadable.
Someone please help with this
Here's the solution for anyone still needing it. Thanks to clankfu for answering my post in the Sprint GS3 MOAR thread.

Edit - Tried to edit the title from my op to show [Solved] but didn't see that option.
i was thinking last night, and i changed to the themes, and one didnt show correctly, but soon as i changed to another one, like xda clasic or something like that it was alright.
the ones that are having trouble, hope it works...
to anyone who reads this topic, if you have any other ideas or suggestions excluding theme changing, please here in this topic....

[RANT] People with signatures on XDA

I hate people with long signatures and have a GIF in them. Really side tracks me.
First we have people who uses XDA from a mobile application, which has signatures enabled as default.
Code:
sent from my a0001
I could not care less.
Then we have the people who adds a GIF to their signature
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(upvote or whatever)
Which doesn't make me upvote their comment or whatever, instead it side-tracks me from the post I'm trying to read. Really annoying and pictures should be allowed in signatures.
Then we have people who have their lifes work on a signature.
I don't mind those people, as it may be hard work they have put up. But still; not my thing.
Then we have people who have all information in the world about their phone, what ROM they run, recovery, kernel, settings, sometimes even weird patches.
IF I WANTED TO KNOW THAT STUFF YOU RUN THEN I WOULD ASK YOU RIGHT!?!? As if every human in the world asked the guy and he didn't want to tell each one by one.
At last we have people who bough a OnePlus device. So what people would do right, is they include the whole process of buying the phone into their signature. Not only on the XDA forum, but also on the oneplus forums (renamed to Community). It's getting on my nerves everytime i browse the OnePlus forums. Literally everyone has that stuff. STOP IT!
Code:
bought the phone 11/11/11
> processing 11/11/12
> shipping 22/11/33
> recived 77/33/22
CONGRATS!?!
Some people also have a picture instead of text, which makes it even harder to scroll down. Like I care when your device was bought.
Something to add to this rant, is that signatures makes a page go really fast, especially if people have a large signature. I see more signatures than actual replies.
For some reason you can even add which mobile carrier you have on your phone to your XDA profile. What's next? IMEI, S.O?
So you there: stop with signatures completely, they were made for emails in the first place and instead turned to be a spam in forums, people writing one line reply then a signature which is the motherload, that's SPAM. No wonders there's not a lot of posts in one page.
I can't tell if this rant was a long one or not. Some people will say for sure that you can turn off signatures or whatever. That shouldn't be necessary, instead look at your ugly signatures and remove them.
Reserved
Signatures were very popular in the past, now that many people uses mobile versions in my opinion they aren't a good idea. Forums used to lock signature images with 300x150px resolutions.

Using a mobile device isn't a issue. In all XDA forum apps I've tried you can turn off signatures.
I don't have a major problem with people with signatures, unless they make a book out of it, which everyone seems to do.
But yeah, the admins need to set a limit to signatures.
Signatures are a way for members to express themselves, pass on information, etc, etc. And yes, there is an option in the user control panel to disable them from your experience if you so choose! :good:
But opinion noted and thread closed.
Cheers,
Darth
