[Q] Android 2.3, HTC Hero CDMA. How to put HTC sense on it - General Questions and Answers

I have a question to ask. I'm going to get an HTC hero on Sprint and i've seen all the hacks. If I were to hack it, how would I get the Sense UI Launcher back? I'm very fond of it, but i'm also fond of Gingerbread. If anybody has the instructions or solution. Tell me. THANK YOU!!!

When you get the phone it will have Sense on it. After you've rooted & flashed GB or whatever you have flashed, just flash a Sense Rom. If you want to unroot, you'll need to look that up as I'm only familiar with EVOs.
If you're getting a new phone, why get a hero? Do they even make those anymore or are you getting a used one?

Aosp rom
Im making the hero my little hacking toy. If I want to use the Sense rom, can i still use the aosp one??? I really dont know how to flash it on the aosp rom. Thank you

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here.
You can use a Sense ROM or an AOSP ROM, but not both at the same time. Before you flash anything, do a nandroid backup in recovery. Then, if you decide you like what you had better, you can just restore from your backup & everything will look exactly like it did. You can flash however many ROMs you want, just be sure you know what you're doing first. I would suggest reading everything you can here on xda. Really, just read and read and read. When you're ready to flash something, just follow the instructions by the letter. And, don't forget to do a backup first.

Oh thank you!! Im gonna look for a 2.3 sense rom and read around. Sorry im a n00b on xda. Lol

As far as I know no HTC phones have been released or leaked running 2.3. So no 2.3 Sense roms yet.

Help With HTC Magic. How to root and Load a custom rom. Noob Alert!

Please please help me. I am completely utterly lost.
I have a HTC magic which is currently running 1.5 version. Sucks i know.
Phone is 32A and A 6.35 radio?
And my hboot is 1.76.007.
So, could someone please kindly give me a noob step by step explanation on how do i root the phone to how do i have a custom rom in it.
how i can upgrade my phone to a 2.2 with Sense or a 2.1 with sense. As long as it is stable.
I know i suck but please. Thanks alot in advance!
UNless your Phone maker offers a upgrade you cant really upgrade to 2.1.2 unless you root the phone and load a custom rom. with whatever version of android the rom has.
Yeah. I don't understand how to root my phone and get the roms. Tried following instructions but i get lost somewhere. Mine is 1.76.007.

New owner question

Hi -
I just purchased a new Captivate...mint condition. It's still on 2.1.
I'm interested to just getting it updated to the official 2.2 software release. However, at the same time I plan to spend several days studying how to root and installing custom roms.
My question is if I install the official 2.2 update then would I still be able to apply custom roms. I learned the hard way that once 2.2 was applied to the HTC Aria, rooting was out of the question.
Anyway, thanks everyone. By the way, I came from the 3GS. Captivate is really a nice change.
Thanks.
The search function is your friend. Use it.
Okay. Sorry to have asked.
Don't be sorry. I understand, but there are a ton of threads that show how to do everything.
Don't update to the stock 2.2 cause it will give you the new 3e recovery issue.
Just flash to a custom 2.2 custom rom.
Thanks all. I used Android about 1 year ago, but then jumped to the dark side. Trying to pick up a few things again.
A wealth of active information over here. Great to see!
Stock 2.2 is no problem to root / whatever you want to do.
Go to the Developer section of these forums and you'll find all the info you want.
Basically the general idea is this:
The program that can flash these phones directly is available (Odin 1.3)
Therefore you can always do what you want. the 2e recovery is technically easier to root, but gaining this back is as simple as downloading a 6mb kernel and flashing with Odin, and poof you are in Clockwork mod and can do what you want.
Basically, upgrade away, you're never stuck with a captivate provided you dont screw up the boot or sbl. (Search those for explanation)

if you definitely plan on installing a custom rom, i'd stay on stock eclair. I recently installed Serendipity 6.2 (my first custom rom), and it required an ODIN back to stock 2.1 (unfortunately i had updated to stock froyo). i'm not sure if all roms require this, but it certainly would have saved a few steps if i was on stock eclair. nothing really exciting in stock froyo, especially if you plan on going the custom rom route anyway.
also, i highly recommend Serendipity (now 6.3)
Thanks for the replies.
I was able to root cand flash a custom rom - firefly last night. It's really fun to be back in the game again. Can't say I miss the iPhone so far, but we'll see.
Thanks.
I was disappointed with official the froyo update. Custom roms are much better than stock. You'll also gain a deeper appreciation for what the devs do.

[Q] Question About Android Revolution Rom

Hey everyone im new to android. Had iphone 4 And kinda knew my way around jailbreak and shsh.. But Android is alot different. so im learning..
Anyway i have a question About Android Reveloution Rom..
It say's » Advanced Power Menu, CRT Screen-off Animation & HTC Sense 3.0 components are in the second post!
And the second Post say's..
Android Revolution HD no-Sense..
I would like to Flash this rom as my first but would Like to Have the Sense 3.0 stuff included.
And further down it say's Before you flash any mods (especially 3.0 Sense mods read a different post..
My question is how do you include all of the 3.0 Sense in the rom? Do you have to flash each one seperate? And how do you add these to it?

Though I haven't flashed this ROM, I'd imagine that if you see a link for the sense 3.0 stuff, its probably a flashable zip(s) that you would download, plop on your SD card, reboot into clockwork recovery and flash from there.
Stuff like that is kept separate to provide flexibility....Not everyone wants the extra stuff, so it makes it more modular for people.
If there's individual links for individual components of sense 3.0, downloading a particular one would either add it or remove it, as labeled by the download.
You could also just browse through or do a thread search on that particular roms thread, as I have no doubt someone has already asked for clarification or otherwise brought the topic up.
***Edit***
I just took a look at the thread/posts. Towards the bottom of post #2, there appears to be an "all-in-one" package for the sense 3.0 stuff.
There's a lot to read in those first couple of posts, I'll admit.
Most of them are the individual components split out separately or in certain pairings/combos.
That all in one looks like it might be what you're after. If worst comes to worst, drop a question in that thread, but I'd spend a little time trying to read some of the prior posts first, it's good form around here to be as diligent as you can on your own first, and ask questions as more of a last resort.
You will also want to take a careful look at the description of the mods that are available. Many of them will not work with the latest version of Mike's rom because it uses a new base. They are working on updating them.

OP, this ^^^^^^
Take my reply above wolf_2's for what it was, just a quick glance of the first couple of posts of a rom that I, as acknowledged, haven't run personally. Wolf_2 clearly has more familiarity with that rom than I do.
Just flash the ROM in the link in the first post. It includes all sense 3.0. If you want to mod it after that you have to flash mods from the third post. If you flash the no-sense script after flashing ROM you will lose all Sense 3.0.
Again just download the ROM from the link in the first post and you will be set.

Hello and welcome to XDA...
First, I recommend reading the stickies posted in the forum and learning as much as you can about the inner-workings of the community... from there, things get easier.
Points of advice...
- Flashing Roms and Kernels can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be... meaning, if you search the forum well and learn what you're doing, it becomes as simple as ever...
- Never flash anything without making a nandroid backup first... if you don't know what that means, use the search function for XDA and lookup "nandroid"
Lastly,
Most people are going to recommend you flash yourself Cyanogenmod 7. The latest stable build is RC1 and can be found here and other "usual places".
Once you flash CM7 (a "rom") then you can flash a Kernel if you want... I'd be willing to put my neck out and say that faux has the most reliable and most popular Kernel out right now in conjunction with CM7...
The best thing you can do for yourself is read... take the time to read as much as you can and answer your own questions slowly over time... there is no reason to go flashing away until you fully understand what it is that you are doing.
Hope that gets you started in the right direction... good luck and have fun!
