I was wondering what is the best radio for our Inspire 4g's? I am not sure myself, and I haven't been able to find much if the inspire 4g is cross compatible with the Desire HD besides, roms and kernels. I am wondering mainly if I can install the radio 12.35d.60.140fU_26.08.03.07_M from the desire HD forum. I am not sure if it compatible or had any side effects / negative reprecussions.
You'll find that some say that a m2 or the m3 radio give you better battery life but I think that might be a placebo effect. I have the m3 which i have no problems with but I am saying that my good battery life goes towards the CM7 build 28! The radio may have something to do with it. If it does, it's very small if any.

That is the leaked gingerbread radio? I am running Coredroid v3.2 with leedroid kernel v2.2.8. I flashed that radio just experimenting. For me I had amazing signal better then the m2 and m3, but my battery life drained away like it was cool. Not doing anything on my phone (full charge no wifi no bluetooth, just data). Cell standby used about 20% of my battery in about 3 hours. With the m2 and m3 my cell stand by is around 11% after 15 hours.

I use 26.06.04.14_M on Android Revolution 3.2 and I can't complain. Before that, I used the radio from attn1's root kit and had shotty reception. Since the upgrade, I've had full service. Don't let bars lie to you though. Check your signal strength in the "about phone" section of the settings menu. Watch the dB's - the close to 0, the better.
Going to flash 26.06.04.14_M as recommended in the revolution thread. How do you find battery life on it cblock? I'm very happy with the battery life on the stock radio that came loaded from at&t but I've dropped a few calls today which isn't normally a problem for me, hoping for a stronger signal from the new radio.
Side note, anyone know how to check what band the phone is running on, 850 or 1900?
What RADIO did you settle on and what result?
See post 1414 on this page. Hands down best radio I have used so far. I am in Florida if that really makes a difference. See pictures of GPS and Speeds. Not to mention the best rom IMHO.

Hey my bad... Forgot to check back
Battery life is fantastic, especially if you're running Gingerbread. (I'm on cm nightly 32)
Here's the radio:

All I can say is do the homework on flashing radios!
Yeah that's the Generic Gingerbread Radio. I flashed it about six hours ago. I have two Inspire's, too. One stock Radio and one with that radio. Where the Stock Radio is getting -110dbi 11asu, this new one gets -93dbi 4asu. Same location.
Not sure what asu is, though. But I do understand the db measurement.

help please....
I have an htc inspire 4g unlocked on t-mobile but sometimes the signal just desapears and comes back am wondering what radio would work better any help please...
Jeebus...guys I'm learning all this and having fun flashing new ROMS and trying to find one I can live with for more than a day
Other than my StreakDroid, I've flashed a few custom roms on my wife's captivate and now have the Inspire 4G and love it.
I keep reading ROM's that need Eng S-Off..with tutorials and guides. Then I read how dangerous it can be. I'm considering it and wasn't sure where else to ask this...but is it that risky?
Will the benefits be that much better by doing it? Can I get most custom ROMs to work with stock radio? I really want to do this, but damn, my wife's gonna kill me if I mess up another phone.
I just got my inspire today and rooted it and I'm running CM7 RC4 but flashed the radio listed in the forum but my upload speed still sucks at about 100, am I missing something
This is how I flash radios. works flawlessly. No need for eng-s off this way.

I can't get any high than 150 up, and I am running cm7 and this radio as well. I have tried 2 other radios and had same issue. I never tried a speediest after first rooting, so I have no idea if I ever got better uploads.
I am getting -83dBm in columbia SC running the same radio.

Coming from Captivate, the inspire Is like the best phone I have ever used. So smooth and snappy. Everything just works, especially GPS. Even stock rom with all the att bloatware was great.
Can't explain the performance. the specs are pretty similar btw the two phones. my captivate could slow down even with the best roms.

+1 I love my Inspire so much. I'm staying strictly full original with mine. This machine is just a pure gorgeous pleasure to use. There's something to say about grabbing ahold of cold metal. It just feels significant. The same goes for the lowly HTC Freestyle, which I looked at in the store. It also is made from metal.
I too am a big fan of the phone. This was the big winner in my Atrix vs Inspire shootout. There's a thread about it.
One of my main issues was the battery life. That was a real sticking point for me on the Inspire. However, after switching to Leedroid's rom with SetCPU on the default (smartass) setting, I'm currently at 45 hours with 4 hours of awake time, and 30% of my battery left... It's ridiculous.
I'm on revolution 3.3. I wonder if set cpu works also. I'm getting full day of average use without an issue right now with stock.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
I think that depends on if they used an OC kernel. LeeDroid explains explicitly that he developed several presets for SetCPU for different situations.

I had some concerns about the speaker volume also. But they've alleviated because all stock Inspires do it. It's something to do with an automatic control where the volume is initially low and then progressively gets louder as any sound remains going. I can live with it also, since I know it's a common thing and not a fault in my specific unit.
Beyond this, I would say this is the utmost flagship model for Android. There's something to be said about the cold feel of metal which these are made of. It just seems significant. I wish the other companies would get in on the metal uni-body design.
Odd, I love my Inspire, but the one problem I do have is the GPS. I can rarely get locks, regardless of radio or ROM. Have found no fix for this unfortunately

Sorry to hear! I've messed around with the GPS since I've had it and I haven't had any big issues with it. What impresses me even more is that even with GPS disabled and network location on, it shows a spot within 5-15ft from me!! Almost dead on exact without GPS on lol, I love this phone!!!!
GPS has been hit or miss on depending on rom. MIUI, shoshkai (sp?), dillagif 0.1 only (sp?), and now cognition 1.0.1. All of the others haven't worked so well in terms of GPS.
So I've had approximate 5 Captivates since last July and thinking about getting AT&T to let me switch phones since I've had so many problems.. Tech support said, and I quote "Yeah we've had a lot of problems with these phones, and I'm hoping the S2 can save face for Samsung" - NICE!
Fellow Captivate owners - Is the Inspire the one to go with over the Atrix?
From what it looks like, the pros over the Captivate are:
1. GPS works
2. LED Flash (thought I wasn't going to need this until the phone became my main camera)
The "cons"
1. Not AMOLED, but still a nice display
Anything else? Looks like you can still use custom ROM's on the Inspire..
How is stock battery life on the Inspire (without all the fancy shmancy things running (live wallpaper/facebook widgets, etc) ) ?
So for some reason, anytime wifi is enabled, the packet loss is much larger than what it is with any other device I have ever owned. Anytime the phone is experiencing a drop in signal or loss of packets, the phone connectivity becomes greyed out with the wifi. This leads me to believe there may be a problem with the phone's radio, since the two should not experience signal loss together, right? Any suggestions? Similar experiences? Please HELPPPPPP!
EDIT1: Also, forgot to throw this in there, but my GPS signal will disappear after 5 minutes of use. It will require a reboot to experience any kind of normal connectivity.
EDIT2: I just flashed the updated radio that is recommended for the GingerBeast ROM. (26.06.06.30_M) We will see if that helps at all...
EDIT3: Okay, works wonderfully as far as signal, but still have problems with signal when wireless is on...
EDIT4: Not sure if it makes a difference, but I am overclocking to 1.8Ghz. I have also checked my candyshell case, but I get the same problems both with and without it...

It's hard to say. I've been watching similar performance, myself, and I will say that something seems goofy, similar to what you describe. I'm starting to wonder if it might be a froyo/gingerbread radio difference, but others have had success using this radio with gb, so I don't know.
I'm using the same radio as you, with the RIL matched. It seems to act up more inside my house, surrounded by big tall trees, which is understandable, but still.
Even though you're using the recommended radio for the ROM, have you tried making absolutely sure the RIL is matched?
Since it's the recommended radio, chances are good that the RIL packaged with the ROM is already the correct one, but it never hurts to double check your RIL version and update if necessary.
What is the RIL?

Thats a full signal.
Ginger Beast is not a sense rom. And is using the recommended radio, so according to that post, there it's no need for me to worry about RIL.
It isn't a full signal. It is a greyed out signal...

You're absolutely correct. That's what I get for having run a sense-based ROM for so long.
EDIT:
Well, now I'm not so sure. Even though the RIL thread I linked does state "not for sense roms," as you pointed out, I was just over in dilli's thread for gingerbeast, the ROM you're running, and dilli himself posted some instructions to somebody about flashing a radio. In that post he says, in so many words, "this already has the correct ril," which left me with the impression RILs DO matter for AOSP roms.
I'd actually like to get clarification on this, myself, but you may want to head over to that thread and ask, if your curious, unless he happens to stop back in this thread, maybe he'll answer here.

Not quite. I actually don't know what I'm experiencing.
My situation isn't quite as discernible as yours. More of a general "something ain't right but I can't put my finger on it" type of thing.
Which makes me think it's more ATT than anything else, for my situation, but once you start flashing roms/radios, it's harder to blame ATT and be completely confident doing so.
Sorry about being so vague and not being of much assistance to you.
Nope. Ver 6.7 uses MDJ's kernel and 6.8 is slated to use LeeDroid kernel.

I'm by no means saying that what's described in the op doesn't happen, but I don't want anyone confused. The s
ignal in the op is 100% full bars. Sometimes when you switch from wifi to cell data, there's a delay of the os knowing if your signed into a Google account or not. If someones wasn't signed into a Google account, that's exactly what their signal bars would look like when they were full. (They would never turn green). Its a light gray, its very easy to tell when the signal drops, its almost a black on black.
When the signal bars are that color gray that doesn't mean there is no service, they will be the same color as if your not signed into Google, and will eventually go back to green.
As the signal drops, the bars that representing a lost signal are very dark almost black gray.
Ill post the framework images and you can better understand what I'm saying.
Tldr-
If your signal bars are the same color as the pic in the op, you have service- if they look exactly like the op, you have full service.
There's nothing wrong with the signal in that picture, its perfectly normal and the phone still has a full service
If he had no service, the bars would be the same color as the top 3 wifi bars.
Op- basically if your thinking that there's a problem with the pic you posted there's not, perfectly fine.
So basically you are saying the color would mean that I am not signed into google? Weird since I am... What would that mean then?

Yes, you are signed in and your wifi/signal bars should normally be green. There's 2 completely different sets of service/wifi bars. One set is exactly as you posted in the pic(not signed in), the other is green. When your signed in and switch to wifi, when your cell data disconnects and wifi comes up , it first loads the grey set of images, then the os realizes your signed into a Google account and the green images are loaded.
Usually they should turn back to green pretty fast(less than a min), but sometimes it takes a little or even just stays gray -and turns back green when wifi is switched back off or whatever.
its not really a rom specific bug, I remember my captivate doing the EXACT same thing on gingerbread.
I was messing with it last night-- toggle wifi on- bars turn from green to grey. They turned back green in about 20 seconds. I know Ive had it before where they stayed grey for a while, but they did eventually go back green.
I have a similar issue as well. But mine is I have no service when the phone is plugged into the charging cord. Whether it be the computer usb port or the charging brick. Seems like I lose a bar or two when it's on charge.
So I'm running CM7 (S-OFF) and I upgraded to the latest radio 12.62.60.27P_26.13.04.19 M.zip and I then flashed the correlating RIL (HTC-RIL 2.2.0179HM (Aug 17 2011,15:24:58)) in CMW (and I remember to mount "system"). When I do this however, I get a X over my signal strength and when I go into Wireless & networks I see that "Airplane Mode" is enabled and is unable to be disabled (when I uncheck it it says "loading" or something but never changes). I basically have no signal... and RIL infos displayer shows this... only a RIL, no radio...

When I flash an older RIL or just don't flash any RIL at all and leave CM7's default I have a signal and RIL displayer shows this...
I'm really at a loss for why that RIL won't work... I have a dual APN setting and a GPS fix I flash but I believe I've tried to get this working with those defaulted...
Any advice?
I have no advice for you other than to say that I have had the same problem. I flashed the 160 ril and have had good results with the radio performance, at least where I live.
If i'm not mistaken the 13.04.19 radio is for the desire hd. The latest radio release for the inspire was the 10.04.03. Don't

You guys should not be flashing any new RILs in CM7. The whole "match the radio to the RIL" thing does not really apply to CM7. It has a special AOSP RIL (version 2.2.0018G) that matches the ROM, and it works well with all radios. Besides, there are known issues that can sometimes crop up when using HM RILs in CM7.
BTW the latest official radio for Inspire/AT&T is 26.10.04.03, and I suggest using that one for a while and judge your results before you go off flashing other radios. 26.10.04.03 should work great for you.

The "RIL" is a shared library compiled from a specific source tree. It should never be changed from the stock one that came with your ROM as subtle differences in compiling can have negative effects. It should ESPECIALLY not be mixed between HTC Sense and CM7 (or AOSP) builds since the source trees are considerably different.
In short, there's really no reason to mess with radio/ril at all.
Thank you Gene. Question with that all being said, should I reflash the ROM since I was playing with the rils?

You only need the ril files from the ROM zip. If you know you're way around linux and know how to mount your system r/w (or use adb push in recovery) you can just replace the ril files, or even just push the whole lib dir, but otherwise, reflashing the ROM will do it (no need to wipe data).
Alright I'm all straightened out now. Thanks Gene for taking the time to explain and answer questions.

Glad to help. Hopefully I've never led you astray.
Although I knew about not changing the RIL in cyanogenmod ROMS I had to search hard to find this information to post the links in the second post. If you actually read the radio/ril threads and even the opening post in the CM DEV threads they do not mention or warn about this. Matter of fact some mention that it is ok to flash new RILs. This is some very important info that the DEVs seem to leave out.
I was wondering this myself earlier. Is this potentially the big issue with the CM7 ROMs? I know when I got started, it seemed as though the recommended ril was the best overall. However due to location, each persons mileage may vary. This not being the case, are to many people playing around too much and causing allot of the GPS and radio problems associated with the cyanogen ROMs?
I may be over thinking this.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
In my opinion radios and rils being location dependant is untrue. I believe it is best to keep the RIL that matches the base ROM and use the cooresponding Radio. It makes no sense why the latest ATT radio would work any different with respect to what ATT towers you are connected. If it was true then all phones from all manufacturers would have to have tweaked radios/modems to match their location.
But I have seen many times where people have changed radios and rils on cyanogenmod ROMS and had issues or no data at all. To me that tells me that the RILS and Radios are tied to the drivers in the base ROM.

This is the RADIO pulled from the UCLK4 JellyBean Leak (Samsung) (BIG THANKS to the anonymous source, you know who you are). Note, this has no RIL (it appears the ril interface remains the same), but I have no idea if anything under the hood (device firmware) has changed. But, any case you have the CSC files included which is relevant to touchwiz based ROMS.

Edit: why NOT flash when attached to USB? First time I've seen that. Just curious

Testing now. So far, same signal strength and speeds. Will be traveling this week and test on LTE.

Flashing with usb plugged in results in no signal generally. Not sure why.

That's pretty interesting, considering I did that and had to reflash several times with the UCLF6 modem because I was tethered.
Anyhow, does anyone have any idea's what exactly is changed in this modem, or if it works any better? I've heard modems are really device/location specific; like one may work in one area better, but a different modem works better in a different area.
Thanks for the share

Can't get a geo location lock with this radio
Edit: reflashed and reflashed kernel and so far all is well
I will have to give this a try. So far UCLF6 has been the best radio for me. UCLI3 was crap (for me) and I've had to ditch it twice.

WOW. My small little town loves this radio. Literally twice as fast as UCLF6 for me. GPS also works like a charm. Thanks
Working great so far thanks!
Can this be used on the Hercules? I would imagine this resolves some of the signal/call quality issues.
Not for Hercules, as the op states, and on att my lte speeds went 4mbps up from ucli3 on average, hoping call quality Improves immensely, ucli3 has a problem with call volume on my phone
After a full day of use, I have found no bugs whtsoever with the radio and LiquidSmooth ROM. Quick GPS fix and good speeds on LTE or 3G. No dropped data connections or anything else. Looks like a winner for me.
flash 3 hours already. no differece between this and ucli3 for me. both is much better than uclf6.
cm10 stable page recommended the ucli3 radio, so flash back to ucli3.
one question, anyone know where to find the changelog for these radios?? why they keep update the radios if there is no change??
getting the fastest speeds i ever got on this phone, and so far it seems to work better connecting to cingular apn instead of pta for some reason... thanks for the awesome modem!
as the OP states, I flashed at my own risk, on a cm10 by Sean
at first boot it soft reboot, but so far is stable I do see full bars now, will check tomorrow for call quality
speeds remain the same as ucli3 but better than uclf6.
Chiming is as well, just flashed to the CM10 12-9 nightly and I flashed this radio as I was having a **** ton of NO SIM card errors and I was frantically looking for a fix. Thus far, fastest speeds I've seen on LTE and solid bars where I've gone this evening. I'll report back once I head into work and hit the dreaded "dead zone" in my office to see how this radio fares.

I still get no data connection when in an LTE area using cingular. I do get data using cingular when not in an LTE area. Strange??? I stay on PTA all the time and get data connect in both areas. This has been the case for me with any radio on my skyrocket. Not sure why.
Data connection for me is about 5-10mbps slower than UCLF6 on LTE. No noticeable difference with calls.

* This is the RADIO pulled from the Rogers Official UXUMA7 Samsung Jellybean release. Note, this has no RIL (it appears the ril interface remains the same), but I have no idea if anything under the hood (device firmware) has changed. Also, no CSC. If you do NOT know what both the terms mean, search my friend.

Guinea pigging it here. Just flashed the new radio and can simply report it did not fry my phone Running the latest CM10.1, phone booted up normally, shows AT&T as the carrier, LTE:13, normal amount of bars for me. Can't really see any difference at all between this and LL3 I was running. Haven't made any calls yet though, am hoping it eliminates the 1-2 delay in voice transmission that happens sometimes.
tested between UCL3 and this... not a big difference coming from winnipeg, manitoba canada. 3-4 dbm
So far working fine with i727R on Rogers, CM10.1 latest nightly. Thanks!
Working good for me. On aokp 4.2.2. Seems to have an average of 3-4 dbm gain over the ics modems I was using. That's on lte btw.
Actually noticing 5 dbm to 7dbm increase on lte and hspa.
Nice work

anyone notice increase or decrease in in-call quality at all? Mine seems the same
Nice work mohan thanks will report back
I love this radio full bars lte not once dropped to 4g now to test at work
I cant honestly tell if this works better for me (edmonton, ab) than ucll3, but both work well!

Anyone tested with SuperLite CM10 JB 4.1.2? Currently using UXLF3 but LTE is not working here in Toronto, Canada on Rogers network.
Tested on mohan_kr's Embryo 6.3 working perfectly. -cpt obv

Significant improvement here in Northern California.
:good::good::good:
Does this mean we will have embryo 6.5 or 7.0 or whatever mohan calls it based off an official release?

Thank you! This is the exact data I needed, I'll be flashing very soon. As always, good work mohan! :good:
This radio looks to perform better here in Lex, KY than ucll3...better signal and about the same in data...
Thanks mohan man
update signal the same, but data speeds slightly better than ucll3. in call quality is the same
so.... I may be crazy, but...
caveat: Just switched from SlimBean 3.1 to AoCp/AOKP (tried both) witch I'm not too familiar with, so it could be me....
I have tried this new modem and it works fine for a while (2-4 hours) (WiFi off), but then I'll lose signal... reboots won't get it back, no internet.
But, if I turn on WiFi, the radio comes back...
(downgraded back to the LL3 modem and did not see this issue, but I may not have been patient enough)

Thanks for this Mohan. In SE Florida AT&T increased both carrier signal and WiFi.

Wi-Fi has nothing to do with radio... The Wi-Fi drivers are kernel based...
That said, networking function is both kernel and framework based, so odds are the radio firmware conflicts somewhere within that Rom's configuration.
The radio is solid for sure, but it may not be compatible with the more recent kernel or api's used in aosp, and stock uses an older version of both. Odds are the kernel or framework could use patching.
If you enjoy that specific Rom and don't mind supporting the dev, i bet they'd benefit from seeing a log from the issues with this radio.

Correct and in our case I believe we have the integrated chip and the F/W is included in the ROM (I haven't checked whether it is the same as the ICS). So the kernel is in play and F/W to emit the right instructions for network type changes.
I know for sure that SAMMY has changed the RIL implementation with their JB version whatever secret they know from the OEM, that is why the older radios do not work anymore. The open source derivatives are pretty much out of luck unless they reverse engineer (even though libRIL is open) for the best performance. I am not complaining, I have been getting significant improvement with the JB Radios and Sammy JB derived ROMS..

Agreed, over all Samsung delivered quality with jb the likes not seen before by their stock firmware until now. A major factor seems to be the relative standardization of features and implementation across devices with similar capability, amongst a ton of other improvements.
Who knew that our obscure little s2 variant would turn out to be a powerhouse if utilized to their full potential, eh?
If only our hw collection wasn't so obscure, Mo ; ) if only.
