Ok, I've been trying out a lot of Hero ROMS and I'm always disappointed in the speed, or lack thereof. Each time I have found myself flashing back to a stable Hero build and then customizing it to my liking (see below). This release is mainly for my own sanity, to save myself the time and effort of getting back to a setup I prefer.
For clarification purposes, I will be referring to these builds as PhotonMod_Hero1 and PhotonMod_Hero1.5
Just understand that v1 is based on LeakDroid's SuperHero3 build and v1.5 is based on JACHero 2.63.
**UPDATE 7/15/09**
As requested, Re-upped PhotonMod_Hero v1 without the Asian IME (pinyinIME.apk). Just be sure to choose English on the first screen of the setup wizard.
PhotonMod_Hero v1:http://www.mediafire.com/?l3inmmtmjzz
NOTE: If you have random Asian characters showing up in odd places, power off the phone and turn it back on. This seems to only happen before the first reboot.
(Reminder, this one does not use AppsToSD. It is basically SuperHeroV3-MAS minus Rosie and all HTC widgets. Also minus swap. and with a few other teaks.)
Also,
Here is "Lite" version of PhotonMod_Hero1.5. I removed the Weather app and widget, and Retro Clock widget.

****UPDATE 7/14/09****
Bluetooth is NOT working in any Hero build at this time
New Build release: PhotonMod_Hero v1.5 - Lite
Based on JACHero2.63 with the following changes:
**Changelog - PhotonMod_Hero1.5 - Lite**
-Removed ALL HTC Widgets
-Replaced HTCCamera with one that works (No sideways image)
-Replaced HtcMusic with old Music app from non-Hero builds (b/c that one is a resource hog!)
-Replaced Rosie with standard Launcher
-Removed Teeter.apk/odex, Stocks.apk/odex, DCS_Stocks.apk/odex
-Removed (commented) Swap partition section in a2sd.sh as I want to try this build out without a Swap partition.
-Added section in a2sd.sh to move a "wallpaper" folder to the FAT32 partition on your SD. That folder contains the wallpapers from the Rosie wallpaper gallery (See Below)
-Added AppsInstaller
-Added Custom Lock Screen
-Added a few "Gems" to the Ringtones/Notifications
To use AppsToSD, make sure you have your SD card setup with Fat32/Ext3 partitions. You will not need a third Linux-Swap partion with this build.
To use new Wallpapers, at the Home screen, press Menu -> Wallpaper. Then choose Albums. You should see a wallpaper folder containing 5 wallpapers.
Thanks to JesusFreke, Haykuro, JAC, Cyanogen, L3wish and the Leakdroid crew, Meltus, and all the other great Devs working to give us the experience we want from our phones.
Rename to update.zip and flash as usual.
you really need to try jac 2.63 with a freshly formatted card and a linux/swap partition. its quite a thrill
Can u put some pics
might give this a try on my other g1...just for fun
i want som pics plzzz !!! and some comments of the one who flashed this .
Fully Functional?
As in Bluetooth working?
Why in the world do you need pics...its hero, duh.
And I have to agree, even 2.63 is quite slow (swapper and a2sd)...I might have to try this one out (though I heard SHv3 had many things not working...).
Thanks for the contribution anyway .
@Shaquiel Harris, NO BT works as of yet. JAC is getting close I guess but NO HERO BUILD HAS BT YET!
Working on taking some screenies for you guys...
be posting in a few...
hmm seems interesting.
wonder how this one works.

Here you see I have changed the background to one I liked from another build. I also have installed the Retro Clock widget, Weather Channel widget, and a few apps (AndroZip, Last.fm, and I really can't remember which else). Right now I currently have about 10MB free (not running apps from SD)
I don't see the bluetooth is working? What do you mean "fully functional"? is the led work, too !?

Ok, I just tried Bluetooth for the first time and it does not turn on. This was my mistake. I do not use it and did not ever try it. I may grab JACHero latest build and mod it the same way (if bluetooth does work in that build) if anyone really wants it. Personally, I never needed it.
As for the LED, as with most Hero builds currently out, the LED does not work. If someone can point to one that does, let me know.
not feeling the "ophone" icons.
but everything else seems legit.
but really isn't fully "functional" due to the fact there is no "rosie" which makes up pretty much the entire experience of "Hero" but good job regardless!

This is true, but every time I try to use Rosie I definitely do NOT have a fully functional phone.
I suppose I should say Fully Usable (once I get BT working anyway)

Well why would he say fully functional when indeed it isnt? and 2.63 is slow for you because your using swapper. Your supposed to make a linux swap partition and have a fat 32/ext2/3 and linux swap. 2.63 is the fastest and most reliable rom that has been made so far And well this is the rom i will stay with. I dont need bluetooth because well i dont use it kinda want LED's Though But besides that.

No,
and I can't say I've notice that on other builds I've tried. Is there somewhere you've see that? It may be part of the new MMS app (which many people are having reliability issues / not getting messages)

I have updated my original post that BT is not working. As for speed of JACHero 2.63, I'll give it a whirl now that I can easily get back to this ROM.
But I've heard "Really Fast" about a lot of ROMS running Rosie/SensUI, and have not yet been convinced by any of those claims.
UPDATED INFORMATION
------------
Is anyone still interested in this mod? If so, please post below! (will have a user-selected delay between photos if so+cyanogen's current mods)
------------
I will release a new version that has a more reasonable delay between photos, hopefully before the end of the year.
More features will come AFTER the 1st of January 2010 AND Cyanogen releases his new experimental branch (4.3), based off Eclair or Flan.
To Do (after Eclair appears on the G1):
- Sensitivity options
- Gesture-based photo navigation (Cyanogen beat me to it)
- Probably one or two surprises, who knows?
ORIGINAL THREAD
Hey all,
I modified the Camera app in order to navigate through photos by tilting your phone. This works in both LANDSCAPE and PORTRAIT modes.
Requirements:
Tested on Cyanogen's 4.2.9.1 ROM but I believe any 1.6 ROM will work also.
Installation:
Download the apk, install it and enjoy!

Feel free to submit bug reports or new feature ideas.

Sounds nice. Wonder if it'll go in a hero rom. Edit your post to 4.2.9.1
Hey this is a good idea! I've just tested it with cm 4.2.9.1 and it works well, maybe it's too much sensitive, most of the time when I tilt the phone it passes through 2 or 3 img at a time.
I also have an idea if you like:zoom-in with double tap and zoom-out with tripletap like in cyanogen's browser
If I think of something else I'll let you know
Nice. Thanks

reflashing the original rom should revert you back i think..if not try and find the original APK from your nandroid to restore.
im lost i see the apk in astro but it says uninstall i never installed it lol
To uninstall, go in Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, select Camera and click Uninstall Updates
how to install the application? the download is in the zip format and when i extract it it gives some files and folders ... where the .apk file??
The download is .apk format.

I agree. Slides too many photos at once. Great idea though.
I would like to see multi-touch zoom, same as the Hero ROMS.
settings
Can you set it to not scroll when tilting? my wifes memoir does this and it's a cool feature but can get annoying at times. May give it a try. Thanks for your work
Its too sensitive..
Can you upload the source for this?
Firstly, I am aware that the scrolling is a bit too fast, and I'll try to roll out another version before 2010 but NO PROMISES, because I am extremely busy right now.
And with that new version I'll include a tarball with the source of the modified app.
More features to come when Cyan rolls out his experimental branch of eclair (or flan, who knows?!), because I believe I'll have to port my code to the new version included in that rom.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and, if I don't get to post soon, a Happy New Year as well. Stay tuned or follow me on twitter/ellsolan to see when new updates appear.
Could someone maybe make a little video of this?
It'd be good if you could upload the source somewhere, or put it on GitHub. Nice idea, really ! Also, make it a preference/setting for us to enable/disable this setting, as well as the sensitivity of it?
Thanks!
I'd also prefer to see it as a configurable option and it released as a patch against the source (and perhaps also submitted to AOSP).
Bump! Anyone still interested in this? If so, post here, will release a new version based off Cyanogen's latest Camera.apk which has all the features + user-selectable rotation speed.
Cheers,
Ellsolan
The reason I've been slower at posting requests lately is about to come clear!
I have created an "online kitchen" of sorts for creating custom skinned, signed, HTC_IME high and low res apk files. This means you guys can very easily create your own skins and customize the ones I've created!
What is this?
A website you can visit on your computer or directly from your phone that will let you a> create a custom skinned keyboard based off of any of the images currently in the library (various colored keys, backgrounds, etc) with whatever text color you want and b> customize existing "skins" (will be known as "presets") however your heats desire.
Currently, it should be considered very beta. All the features that are here should be working 100%.
Why beta, that sounds scary?
It's beta for a couple of reasons, 1 because it's currently UGLY as sin (concentrated on features and back end first) and 2 because I'm actively working on it which means it could break at any time.
What is the point of this?
Besides the fact that you can now customize the hell out of the way your keyboard looks, it drastically reduces the amount of work I have to do in the future. Currently, i'm uploading 46 pre-themed apk files for every single update. While this isn't really a big deal since I automated the process, it slows down how quickly I can put up updates. With this new method, all I have to do is upload the original unthemed keyboard apk and classes.dex for each new version and my work is done!
Everything else:
If you select a preset, you will still be asked to choose each portion of the keyboard (background, buttons, text color etc). The image with the yellow border around it (you'll see what I mean) is the default "piece" for the preset.
One last thing, depending on server load it could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to generate the keyboard. Most of the time I suspect it will be < 1 minute tho.
I don't mind if you use this to generate a keyboard and include it with something (theme/morph) or post it somewhere, just give due credit
URL for HIGH RES online kitchen: now offline, sorry
URL for LOW RES online kitchen: now offline, sorry
Current feature list / changelog:
Start from a "preset" (any of my current themes) and change any component of it.
Choose any of my current backgrounds
Choose any of my current primary/function key styles
Choose any of my current "symbol sets"
Choose any of my current space bar logo/images
Upload your own spacebar logo
Choose any color text for letters and alternate characters
Built in bug reporting/feature requests (for new image sets, for example)
Choose any color for background image
Preview keyboard before generating it
Option to see/reuse all skins you have generated
Option to see/reuse last 25 skins anyone has generated
Choose any color for symbol sets
Added lowres kitchen
Added option to choose between 1.5 only and 1.6+ low res versions in low res kitchen.
Added v25 froyo version.
Added all v26 versions to kitchen!
Added all v27 versions to kitchen!
Added v27-froyo lowres version to kitchen!
New option: Create your own primary/function keys is FINALLY here!
Pre-themed/Pre-built skinned keyboards.
Custom skins for Jonasl's HTC_IME high res.
These are signed with the exact same certificate that jonasl uses so if you can install his, you can install these and go back and forth with no problem.
These are no longer flashable update.zip files, all you need to do is download the zip file, extract the HTC_IME_hi.apk to your sd card and install with a file manager (linda, or something that supports reinstalling for future installs).
Special note, if you have not already installed v22 or higher, I highly suggest you read Jonasl's thread here for important information regarding this keyboard. You will need to re-enable and completely reconfigure this keyboard after installing (only if you haven't already done v22+).
One last note, there is a new hi res Clicker.apk available too. I have not included it in these downloads, you will need to get that from the official HTC_IME Mod download if you haven't already! Update: or get it here -> Clicker_hi.zip
v24 links removed because v25 is now available in the kitchen, screenshots represent some of the many themes you can create there!
Thankyou so much all working perfectly !
Oh thanks for this, I definetly don't like Metamorph - so this was a life saver. Well not really a life saver, more like a life enhancer lol..
Great job thanks .
I know this is an htc forum but is there any way you can throw an update.zip of v18 for us droid users? The candidate bar is broken on v19 for droid but it worked on 18... if you can do it would you make it the black with white text theme? This would be much appreciated! Keep up the great work!

Sure thing, I don't want to maintain to many old versions going forward, but this one is the most frequently downloaded one, and it sounds like Jonasl isn't going to get us a new version real soon (i could be mistaken tho).
I'll try to get it posted here in the next 30 mins or so.

Actually im a fool... with the candidate bar on v19 you can long press and dragit to the correct position so don't bother. I read This aafter I posted and gave it a try and voila. Seems like a lot of Droid users didn't read the entire OP like me. Thanks for the quick response. Hope I caught you before you wasted any time!

Hahah I almost suggested you try that, but wasn't sure if this was different bug.
Glad you got it sorted, no time wasted here!
I'm still having problems with installing the themes...I tried all 3 methods you posted, everything installed with no problems or errors...however, when I go to a text screen (sms, for example) I click on the input area and the keyboard just doesn't pop up at all, nothing. Any explanation for this? I don't understand why I can't get this to install properly. I'm convinced it has to do with my rom, jrummy's desire remix on koush's cyanogenmod

It must. Have you been able to install the un-themed keyboard from Jonasl? If that is the case, I have absolutely no idea why these wouldn't work. They are identical to the APKs he produces just with my theme changes.
These themed versions work like a charm on stock N1.
I extracted the APK, installed with ASTRO. Just to be safe, I uninstalled previous version.

Glad to hear!! I assumed they would, but had no way to test it (short of nanding and flashing back to an unrooted stock rom of course).

Which install method did you try????
For stock I would recommend option 3 with astro file manager or similar.
I used option 3 with astro go to choose input method and it only gives me android keyboard option ? rebooted phone too just to make sure .
Thanks bro for the update.zip. I had almost given up on flashing the penguins skin as I could not get MM to do it no matter what I tried. Anyway this method worked. Have the keyboard themed with penguins.
quick question: if I install a new ROM and wipe data prior to that will I have to apply this again? If so can I do this directly without installing the orginal HTC keyboard? Thanks again.

I *think* either on stock firmware and/or first time you run it you have to actually enable it first. Try going to settings, language and keyboard, and see if you have touch input that you can either check mark to enable or go into for settings, then try to set it as your input type.

Yes you will have to apply it again, and yes you can go straight to my pre-themed keyboards (by flashing, pushing, installing, however you want!).
that did it thanks very much
Works great! Thank you.
so there is a new rom available in the black hat app called tranquility black
I was wondering if you can install this directly over tranquility along with what the differences are?
yes it can be installed over the older version of TranQ.
the difference is the notification bar is in black with different icon, and a few other added things that were tweaked. I've seen it but have not updated to 2.3.8 in black yet. I know P3 is working on another update I think that should be out soon so I'm just going to hold up. Oh and if I'm not mistaken on the 2.3.8 the lockscreen slider is cleared/hidden. It is in the same place and functions the same way it is just not visible on the screen.
thanks for the reply, so other than visual things do you kno if they did anything to improve speed / performance?
No prob, as for your other question not exactly sure. And seeing as I'm a slacker and haven't updated yet I can't speak for the new Black 2.3.8 version. I do know he has a couple of things in the works for another update tho, not sure exactly what tho. Seeing as I haven't gotten time to finishing modifiying a couple of things I alwasy do I may just wait for him to release the next version and then drop my stuf in there and finally update.
I'm pretty new to the whole rooting scene. I currently have ClearDroid ROM. I definitely like it. Fast and all.
But. I've also used a few 2.3.3 Gingerbread + Sense ROM's and I also like the whole quick settings in the notification area and all the neat other stuff that 2.2 didn't offer.
My big $1,000,000 question is... Is it possible to keep ClearD's ROM but still import the 2.3.3 functions in such as the quick settings and lock screen and stuff like that. Or if there is something like that already available. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Cyanide
If that rom is sense based your best bet is to wait or contact the developer to see if he can make the 2.3.3 GB jump.
If it is not sense based or it is AOSP then those features cannot be added since they rely on the sense framework
Not quite sure if I was clear on my OP.
I was wanting to keep some 2.2 features, but add a few 2.3 features like the 2.3 lockscreen, quick settings and a few other things.
But I'll keep looking around.
I'm not familiar with doing changes in the system like that so i cannot tell if it requires the whole system or just some files replacements that will not create any conflicts.
If your looking for the lockscreen search in this forums there are few alternatives and maybe easy to do for example this one:
