This thread is for anyone that wants a more customized rom.

I will take any rom released on xda for the dream and customize it to ur liking.
If you don't want the msg/mail widgets or a song played during the boot of ur hero rom I will do that as well.
I won't theme a rom for you nor will i create a rom from scratch, i will only modify it to ur liking.
If this sounds like something that you would want just contact me via twitter or email when you know what you want.
Message me the apps you dont want or apps you want added to the rom.

Well, I guess that's a nice thing to do. Thanks for sharing. Although, I would be interested in a nice tutorial on how to take a ROM off XDA and modify it by removing/adding components... Lemme know if you can help.

yea, actually being able to compile a full rom pack for fresh regular wipes complete with apps and whatnot would be killer. I'm sure there's a guide to compiling your own package somewhere though. This totally is the dev department =P Check the huge list of q&a

I'm just want people who get frustrated easily to be able to have the same benefits as the rest of us. You just tell me the rom you want, we'll chat for a little and i'll tell you what apps i can take out and you can ask me to add some apps into the rom..if you want a theme i can help you pick the best one for you and other things along those lines. I already have a few requests and I'm going to sleep now but I will try and get you guys ur roms as soon as I possibly can.

I could use (a lot of people who do embedded systems stuff could use, actually) a cupcake rom with the serial port enabled, TTYMSM2. This would allow hooking up th Dream to a number of devices (Including a sonar if you want to do the Dark Knight scanner thing ).
Ideally it should have variable baud rate but if thats not an option, a lot of stuff (DGPS, sonars...) still runs at 9600 baud.

So would it be possible to get Ion with the htc dialer and htc mail app(exchange)?

I have a few requests that i will be getting to tonight. I will try my best to get them done in speedy orderly fashion.

i would just like a how to on making a lock screen

This is an update from drizzy that i modified a bit for a friend..
-for weather or flip clock use the android widget
-no mail/sms widgets
-updated onscreen keyboard just have to enable it.settings->Locale & Text-> Disable Touch Input
-Some extra games you can delete them from Settings->Applications->manage applications
-other fixes that seem to make it quicker.
-don't overclock, enjoy.

idc what rom it's running on (i'm on cyan 3.9.1 i believe), i just want the camera from wherever you can get it from that has the "store location in photo/pictures" option.
this would be a dream come true. lol
i looked for an app that offered it but seen nothing. =/

pictures store on ur sd card in DCIM/100 Media and wont go anywhere as long as you don't format ur fat32 partition..im not sure where else you would want them to be stored though.

I think he means one that embeds the current GPS data into the image.
So, when he takes a picture it will embed the data of *where* the picture was taken.

Ide like to see some of the hero widgets, like photo album, and the large calendar, and the twitter widget, work on the JACxHERO v1.3 rom

Is there a way to get the background of the contacts, fav, ect.. To black with white fonts. I'm running JacXHero 1.1 with themed palm-hero V3r2.

Acutally, if it's easier, you can maybe point out a tutorial or tell me how I could pull out the camera apk from 1 rom and install it in another.... (?_?)

Yeah thats possible, i'll work on that when i get back from vacation..I'll take care of you. To get touchpal to work u just have to have touchpal the only one checked. Then ur set, no errors.

is it possible to customize a fast lag free rom and have it look like the hero.....i like the way the text messages and icons look also like the dialer and the menu.....but hero is so slow sometimes.....thx...

let me get Drizzy's NewVision_2.8 with bluetooth and paid apps working, or Drizzy's NewVision v3r2 with bluetooth and the keyboard working.

i would like a rom that when installed would add 96mb of RAM, would give me the ability to fly as well as to teleport. also i would like it to include a notification ringtone sampling the episode of the boondocks where ed and rummy try to kidnap oprah and ed says "*****es love smiley faces."

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE THREAD BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS!
Ok. There are many changes in this rom. Some may or may not like the changes. I was thinking that I should really live up to the name "Gutted" so I completely removed anything and everything I possibly could. The change log is going to be in the next post.
Also, as stated above this update includes the MR so any issues that were resolved with the update are resolved in this rom.
Now I removed the clock widget in this release but you can easily add it back and the issue with the location and weather not showing should be fixed. Usually it takes a minute or two to find location once pushed but if it doesnt work also push HTCNew.apk and odex and it should work fine.
Oh and before I forget make sure you remember to go into the settings and do a few things. First go to Settings->Data Sunchronization->Google and set up your Google account. Also you may go to Location to set up your GPS and Display to set up the animations.
Finally, I would like to thank MoDaCo for porting the first custom rom ever to the CDMA Hero and making us all very happy people, Amon_RA for his awesome recovery image, Mlign from the Dream community for guidance and pieces of his rom and everyone here at the XDA Communities for being awesome and never giving up.

I'm pretty sure the clock is crashing because you removed the weather. They had seemed to be closely tied when I looked at the original sense ui.

No. I removed Weather many times before and the clock functioned perfectly. At work now so I will have to try and fix it tonight.

Yeah it's easy really. If you want you can take it from my rom and just replace it. The way I did it though is by opening up /system/app/Rosie.apk in an archive manager of some sort (7zip would work). Then I pulled all the pngs out of it and optimized them with optipng. Then I just dragged them back into the apk and your done. There are also jpegs somewhere in there so I deleted all of them except for the first one and with that one I just resaved it and compressed it a bit. You can look in my Rosie.apk if it helps or like I said, your free to just use that one if you want. Just note if you take my framework-res.apk, that is where the anims are stored so you will want to replace my anims folder with MoDaCo's unless you like the new ones.

That is definitely why it crashes when you click on it. If you push worldclock.apk and worldclock.odex it will be fixed but I figured thats a bug we could live with

I had been toying with installing it for awhile, then I downloaded the dxTop home replacement and I don't think I will be using rosie ever again .
EDIT: Great rom idea btw. I would love to see a real "gutted" Hero rom, including the removal of Rosie. MoDaCo has previously posted a neat little script to accomplish this:

Does hitting the "Clock" shortcut in your app drawer not work either?

Speaking of weather and location not working in the clock widget, I'm noticing the same behavior from MoDaCo's 1.1 ROM. I've searched for more information about it but haven't come up with anything yet. Do you have any updates as to why this might not be working?

Sweet, thanks!!! (I seem to recall learning this before...just completely forgot it until now, and hadn't thought to do this. I wonder what other apps I could apply that too...hmm)

Will your Gutted ROM install if I have MoDaCo 1.1 installed, running Apps2SD with my SD card partitioned with the three partitions? I have had trouble installed Fresh's ROM because of the Apps2SD partitions.

Since this is based off of MoDaCo's rom yes, Apps2SD works straight out of the box.

post back later if I like it flashing right now, but adding back some of the apps. Many thanks for adding the orginal apps I do use some but others will never be used.

Flashed with the Gutted ROM and I get "HTC Sense has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" at startup. Can't fully boot. I powered down and rebooted and I get the same thing.

What is the rosie.ask? What does it do?

framework-res.apk & services.jar

Can anyone offer some insight on the SDK emulator? I'm trying to test out a new framework-res.apk/services.jar for white notification/clock text on froyo. trying to push it to an AVD(emulator) but getting errors:
"C:\Users\pwner>adb push C:\Users\pwner\Desktop\Theme\framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
failed to copy 'C:\Users\pwner\Desktop\Theme\framework-res.apk' to '/system/framework/framework-res.apk': Out of memory"
can't find anything about this on the web. sorry, know it's a noob question but i'm very much so looking forward to having a black theme back on my nexus + froyo. i'm also going to be developing my own themed* ROM which depends on white text.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

there is a way yes, BUT, we need a fully deodexed froyo rom first. paul over at modaco has deodexed the build but hasn't released the deodex pack for the kitchen. once he does, i'll be building/releasing a theme. till then. we are fuct

Hey thanks for the advice guys! Well, I've actually gotten a ported Kspec theme set up on my phone right now. Only problem is that I just pushed the framework and launcher and apps to my phone using adb push. so no update.zip
So what I could really use some advice on would be:
1. Setting up my PC for signing apps that I modify. I use windows 7 though. none of the articles about setting up signing seem to pretain to me, including stericsons guide
2. Creating update.zip files to flash(sure i can find more info on this in the forum but with out signing ability not too much point right now).
3. using apktool to decompile apps to edit XML files. this is so i can change the text on the music app's text color to white(so now playing shows up properly in the notification bar) along with other apps I use so I can theme and change font colors such as touteir, etc.
other than that, I'll be working on images to get my custom rom out! This is what I have on my phone ATM:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT MY THEME. just ported it from brendank's kspec monster theme. i hope he wont mind that i'm sharing screenies of what i'm using on my phone here, and i have no intention on releasing his theme at all...i am using it as a temp theme so i don't go insane with all the white on the phone till i make my theme. anyways, screen shots attached.

Okay, there's a fair bit to answer there so perhaps we just take it one step at a time...
Windows 7 is not a problem. You will need to install the Android SDK and the included USB drivers. Once you've done this test that your phone can connect to your computer by USB, if not you'll need to diagnose that (that's a search).
You need the JRE (Jave Runtime Environment). You probably have this, type java.exe at a command prompt to make sure it exists, if not then download and install (any Windows version).
The you need to check that adb (Android Device Bridge) is working. Drop to a command prompt and go your SDK/tools dir and type adb devices with your phone plugged in via USB. It should display the serial number of your connected phone. If it does not then you need to diagnose your adb problems (that's a search).
The you need to autosign (search this forum) and apktool (search google), these will allow you to decompile/compile/sign apks and also sign update.zips.
Once you have all of that and you're familiar with how it basically works then post back here with some of your experiences and we'll take it to the next step.
Please also look in the Chef's Central sub-forum, there's lot's of helpful information (including many of the required tools) in there.

I love the Notification bar on that theme... You think I could get the string for that or maybe the theme to extract the framework-res.apk and services.jar?

[APP] Auto Shortcut - Generate Shortcuts With Custom Icons - 0.2 8/20/10

This is a little app I developed mainly because I got tired of changing all my shortcut icons by hand every time I wanted to try something new.
It works by a folder of icons on your sdcard and matching them to installed applications by name. For example, Browser.png gets mapped to the Browser application.
This is more of a test version i'm looking fro people to find bugs and try other devices.
If you are having problems:
Please send me your log by using the button from the main menu.

Now this is cool. Gonna try it out. Only thing is certain apps I like to change the name of when I create shortcuts with BetterCut. Like changing XScope to Browser. I suppose I could do those one by one with BetterCut though.

Works really great. It's convenient. Only work involved is naming the icons which can easily be done from your computer before you put them on the sd card.

When I tried it, the buttons of the app did not work properly.

I ran into a slight problem. While selecting the icon folder.
Drilled down to folder.
Hit select...nothing

Screen turns black, osmonitor looks maxed out.
After around 5 minutes, maybe more, go into osmonitor and kill auto shortcut.

I have the Droid Incredible, when I get to step 2 "select shortcuts to create" and I tap on create button nothing happens. I could go back to step 2 but I can't do anything on step 2

I'll take a look and throw in some log output data to see if i can find the problem.

Death of CAMDroid 2.0

Hello, From The 13th September 2011 - All of my ROMS for the HTC ChaCha will be under the LightDroider name and I have discontinued CAMDroid + TweetDroid. I can no longer provide support for these ROMS and have no intention to do so. If you need a ROM use LightDroider. Thank You for using this ROM and it is time to update if you are still using it.

For example the already known - removing HTC Sense will cause some weird behavior (for example Settings -> Personalization).
I will test this as soon as possible.

Yeah but if HTC Sense is gone then GOLauncher won't require you to personalize because it will allow you to manually download themes and if you hold the home screen you can set a wallpaper.

One drawback with changing Rom I find is link2SD needs re doing each time, I need to re partition the SD after each new Rom. Not sure that's normal. It's not a massive deal but is certainly affecting my down time.
Right now I'm using my legend as didn't have time to sort all the post new Rom admin I seem to keep doing!

Suggestion: Put IM+ on it since from my point of view is light-weight and you can add multiple accounts (Yahoo, Skype, MSN, etc.). Since video calls are not supported Skype is just an instant messaging software. It's just my suggestion

I will try this rom today if I have time. I just hope it's stable with all the sense stuff taken out.

Ok, first major problem - cannot type number 0 in the PIN code screen
So basically my PIN starts with 0, therefore I cannot unlock it
Can anyone else using this ROM try inserting 0 in the PIN code screen?

Suggestion - Uncheck fast boot from settings so in case something goes wrong we can boot to recovery

Hint: There are still some remnants of HTC Sense on yet though
All screens that have the blue bar on the right are from Sense (for example USB connection screen).

Unfortunately had to jump off into a meeting so I restored my previous backup. Didn't have any time to check for a fix. Try using a keyboard file (update.zip) from the Flashable keys thread and see if that works.

Did just that and was thinking of updating the post right before you did. If you take the keyboard files from the flashable keylayouts thread and replace them in the rom zip file it works. Apparently they are missing completly from the rom zip.
Gonna use the rom today and let you know what else i can find.
LE: The bootanimation and downanimation are currenty named hTC_bootanimation and hTC_downanimation and that's why they don't work. They need to be named
bootanimation.zip and downanimation.zip
LE2: Apparently by using the keylayout from the keylayout thread, the english one, other keys get scrambled. Looking into it.

Please use lightdroider a.s.a.p - this is finished now and if i said i was going to make 2.1 - i am not.
Lightdroider is more faster and has more space for you.
