[Q] T-Mobile myTouch 4G Android v2.2 to v2.2.1 no OTA available - myTouch 4G General

Hi Guys
I am here in Canada and using the my Touch 4g with Wind Mobile, so no OTA option for me. I want to update to Android Froyo 2.2.1 to fix a nagging screen flickering issue with YouTube, which supposedly it fixes. How do I go about doing this with no OTA available?
The phone is unlocked but still has the T-Mobile crap-ware on it.
Any help is Appreciated.
Thanks.

I would suggest reading up on rooting then flashing a custom recovery (clockwork mod 3.0.0.6). Make a nandroid backup...and head to the development section and pick a ROM that suits you.

Or you could be an average user go into the wind mobile store and ask lol, always a possibility.

[Q] New android user

I recently rooted my Inspire. Today there was a WIFI update available and when I went to run the update the screen blacked out with an exlclamation mark. Is this because of the root that the phone will not take the update? Or is that the update process?
Thanks
Is the update from your service provider or from the people that created the ROM? If it's from your provider I would not even try to run the update just wait for an updated version of your rom to come out.
Thanks!
Kind of what I was thinking but being new to the device I thought I would ask.
Thanks again!
This is just to enable better speeds but all the ROMs already enable that.

Actually, its likely the side loading update, which most Roms also have. The speed update was weeks ago...

The OTA update is a combination of a patch pack and some new firmware for the radio and hboot. The first phase is applying the patch pack. For this to work, you need a pretty much stock ROM. If you're rooted, you likely have a few files that will be different and the patch will fail. It also checks the CID and aborts if you're not using stock (ie you used gfree to "open" your SIM, etc.). The firmware will only install after the patching process has completed successfully.
If you are rooted, then your best bet is to just use ATTN1's package that contains all the patched files and firmwares. You can find it here:

[Q] gingerbread 2.3.3 calendar issue
before updating to 2.3.3 I was able to click on either a address link or phone number in the calendar and it would open google maps or the keypad.
after updating the address and phone number link it opens "Verify the phone number"
is there a way to fix this?

HTC Sync problem now...
I am rooted and have loaded the rooted 2.3.3 rom, and flashed the radio/ril.
When trying to sync my calendar & contacts with HTC Sync, it connects but won't sync. I get "Your device does not have enough free memory."
I have 1.7gb free on sdcard, and .92gb free on phone. ALL I have checked is People & Calendar. Any ideas???
I was able to sync right after downgrading with AHK, but not now after flashing the latest rooted stock rom.
I need my contacts & calendar... on my phone... and like being able to use sync on my desktop, because Outlook has some calendar options that aren't on the phone calendar.

Yes. First I clicked "check for update" on sync, and it said "up to date". So I uninstalled, and noticed the version # on the HTC site was later than what I had. But still no worky... It connects and shows my device, when I click sync now, the bar goes to the end then says not enough mem.
I ended up exporting my contacts to a vCard file and putting on my sdCard and loading them that way.
Still wish sync would work though...

Stock rom root beore update or update then root?
I'm a noob and this question may have been asked but not finding it if it has. I have a stock htc inspire with 2.2.1 and baseband ver. 12.39a60.19u_26.06.06.30_M. I want to update it to the new 2.3.3 GB but not sure if I need to root and down grade radio first then update or do the update and then root it. I have been reading and I believe its safe to go a head and update then root and install a custom rom or a rooted stock rom with alot of bloat ware removed. I just want to make sure before doing anything cause really not sure if you need to down grade radio first then root or update then down grade radio if you have to. Plus it does make sense to update then root seeing you loose root once updated but really not sure if it matters. Just want to be able to root once I update to 2.3.3. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Root first since it'll wipe out whatever you've got on the phone anyway. If you do the update, then you've just added an additional unneeded step.
The ace hack kit will work with either version so don't worry about that.
Gene Poole Thanks for your reply. You say

So root the stock 2.2.1 then put the rooted 2.3.3 rom on it and it will down grade the radio and be rooted to the 2.3.3.
Thanks

Got an Inspire 4g for free. Its running the stuff in the pics. Snapchat crashes my phone and i cant receive mms. Im on t mobile because its unlocked(and yes ive edited the APNs). I want to go to Android Revolution HD to see if it atleast fixes snapchat. My question is what else do i need to flash besides the rom and superwipe? Do i need to flash a new radio or kernal? Is there a link to a "Flashing roms for dummies" that i missed? Any info is appreciated!

I4Gs can use DHD ROMs. The Ace Think Tank in DHD General has links to a lot of resources.

EVO Shift 4G: Looking for PG06100 zip to downgrade

...and/or to get it back to stock (2.3 or 2.2).
I've found a lot of links throughout XDA. But, without exception, they've all been dead links. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not interested in rooting. My phone is already rooted, S-OFF. I just want to get it back to stock so that I give it to someone else and they can activate it.
You can always try prboy1969 he is a living archive

You don't have to unroot it to activate it. I've had 3 shifts given to me that were rooted and I activated them on my accout.
Cool, that's good to know. Do you know if it matters if it has a stock recovery or custom?
