[Q] good morning all - General Questions and Answers

Did some searching and found nothing relevant, I'm thinking because nothing like it may not exist. I have a friend who just sold his Droid x for a thunderbolt and he really liked the blur Widgets. I've been kind of talking up the HTC platform but sense isn't cutting it for him. Are there any blur like widgets anyone knows of? I didn't see anything in the market, he particularly liked the news feeds that updated on there own and let you add multiple feeds to one desktop icon.
Any suggestions are appreciated thanks all

Look in this forum and market, there are all here

What is the fundamental difference between Hero and the G1 OS?

There are so many roms around there an one thing I cannot find is at a fundamental level,(user level) what do we gain out of using the hero rom rather than the regular g1 OS?
Is there a killer app that only works on hero? is the hero interface, better? majorly different? would like to know, please?
Could you really not find it, or did you not look? This isn't even remotely close to being in the correct section either..
To sum it up however, HTC's "Sense UI" that is implemented on HERO is essentially a home replacement (like openhome, ahome, etc...). It features many graphical enhancements as well as widgets that are not available on the stock android builds.

Its mostly cosmetic. Everything in HERO looks better than standard ota 1.5 android. I weighed the options of running HERO ROM or Cyanogen and HERO came out on top. I just love the way HERO looks. I love it so much, that I gave up use of my blue tooth headset.
.....the only thing I can suggest is to do some research on a "proper" installation of a HERO ROM and experience it for yourself.

to the first point, yes I looked, there is no site, thread that just has that simple explanation. I'm sure it's there, it's just buried.
Point 2. yeah, your right. my thinking was this is a forum full of hero and non-hero roms, so it would be good here, but really, I could have put it elsewhere. Thank you very much for the info.

Thanks for the pic.

Thanks for the info. I will have to check it out. as soon as I get time to clean out my sdcard.
thanks all again.
If it were only the eye candy.... What sets Hero apart is the way it integrates your social network in one place. Right now there's support for Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Plurk, Picassa, Google, and your Exchange contacts. All of those can be merged, so say, if your friend Sally from work ([email protected]) has a twitter and facebook account, you can exchange tweets quickly and the phone will notify you they're from Sally. Also, you're out and trying to decide which pair of shoes you should get for Saturday night's ball, and you can't decide, you snap a quick picture, uploaded to your facebook (right from the camera app) and then tweet Sally to help you choose, be quick, though, your wife's almost back
@rkimbal45
What the first guy meant was you didn't look to see they have a Q&A section for what you asked, which was a question... From my point of view you have no investigative skills which led you to asking this question and not being able to find the proper place to ask it.... but hey who really post their questions in the Q&A now-a-dayz?
PS. Q&A=Questions and Answers

[Replacement Dialer]

Hey all,
I have been hunting for a dialer to replace HTC's attempt. Although there are some great attempts here in the forums they didnt give me what i wanted, which was a full size calling image of the caller (480x800) and a much cleaner dialer in general.
I did how ever stumble across Iconsoft dialer for WM 5 and 6 which does give these and alot more. The short cuts are also very attractive but I am trying to figure out how to alter the rigistry to use the Iconsoft app for contacts as default, so if anyone knows please let me know.
The app isnt free but is worth every penny in my eye as makes my phone just that bit different. this can be downladed as a 15day trail also. There are some other themes for the dialer on the site.
I have been using for a few days now and havent had any trouble with it or speed problems its is pretty solid. Hope this helps some people out with finding a new dialer.
Please feel free to post any other dailers you come across, but keep it to dialers only!

P.s Many thanks to all the DEV's for there great work here on XDA. Our phones would be very boring with out you!

Everyone to there own........
But please dont write pointless comments about stuff you have never tried!
Actually I have tried this(an older version) and I felt the same way then as I do now.
Pointless post or not, look at it. If I wanted an iPhone, I would have bought one.
BUT..... You're right. To each their own.

Ah you see.... you tried the older version! this is the NEW one!
And lots of people like the iphone look anyway, silly to not have something you like just because it "looks like an iphone" screen

HTC Footprints

I briefly had an HTC Incredible that had HTC Footprints on it and it looked pretty interesting.
I'm switching to a Droid X this week (hopefully).
Has anyone pulled HTC Footprints and created an .apk that I can use on the Droid X?
No, please search next time.
Well, I did search and saw a couple of old threads, but I didn't want to bump something really old.
And if the answer is no, wouldn't searching have not led to anything or is there a thread out there somewhere where it's definitively determined (recently) that it can't be done?
I can see telling me to search if there is a recent thread with an affirmative answer.
im glad you didnt bump somthing really old, people here are jerks anyway, most of them havent matured to the point they know how to behave in public. Ill see if i can dig up footprints for you although you generally require sense for that kind of stuff.

[UPDATED 11-13][INFO] [1035+ APPS] Ultimate List of Tablet Apps - Updated regularly

If you guys like the site, please hit the Google Plus one button the top left corner of the site so I know
Tablified.com - [tab * li * fied] -verb. 1. apps that have been specifically made for Android tablets.
Well, after days of working on the site, its finally here. It's not perfect, but I think android tablet owner are going to enjoy this.
One of the biggest flaws with the Android Market is that there really isn't a dedicated section for tablet apps. Phone apps get thrown in the pile with tablet apps and its just impossible to find tablet SPECIFIC apps.
Many developers say their apps are "optimized" for tablets which, at first sounds great. But sadly, most of the time the app is just adjusted to fit better on a larger screen without adding any new features or tablet specific UI elements.
This is where Tablified.com comes in. Each app is tested to insure that it really is a tablet specific app. While I want to give credit to XDA and the Xoomforums for providing me with a list of apps, I found out that many of those apps aren't really tablet specific. There are currently over 50 apps on the site and more added every day. If you have an app, please use the "Submit an app" link on the site and let me know what the app is; if it meets the requirement, I'll add it to the list.
Tablified.com does NOT allow you to purchase the app. I simply links back to the Android market for you to complete the transaction. What I do is list up as many apps as I can find, after testing each one of course. I am very critical about which apps go up because I want users to only see tablet SPECIFIC apps-that's why games are currently not available. Until I see the same version of "Burn the rope" that's available on the iPad for Android tablets, you won't find it on my list-this goes for many other games.
We have a couple of people working on the site and are recruiting people to help. If you know how to use wordpress and would like to join the team, then please PM me. I apologize if there are any errors on the site. I did my best. If there are any errors, please leave a comment on the app and I will fix it ASAP.
We have big plans coming soon. Can't same much now, but I think its something to look forward to. Sorry for making this so long, but I hope everyone enjoys the site. Ads are there to help pay for the hosting-sorry, no ad-free version
Cool Site.. I love what you are doing with it. I'll be sure to keep this page in mind when browsing. Maybe set up an RSS feed when a new app is added so I can see it on Pulse.
MOTO XOOM.

Maybe I'm missing it, but a top downloaded section would be nice, maybe a top downloaded for the week, most popular list, etc. Or exporting the ratings from the market and displaying that.

thanks for your feedback. the only way that i can do a "top downloaded section" would be if people start voting on the site. this is accomplished by simply rating it using the stars icons . if you guys dont rate then i cant display the top rated app/game etc. I had a section for that kinda stuff but because the vote count was low and it didnt look pretty so it didnt seem worthwhile to keep it. so once you guys start voting then i can make a place for it. this is only the first month of the site being released so maybe next month ill put it in. in the mean time, you can scoll to the bottom on the homepage to see the most viewed app.
as for the rating, i dont think theres a way to do that. but each app has a widget at the bottom of the page that has the market link as well as the rating it received on the Android Market. if you guys like the app, simply rate it by pressing the stars just like you would on the official market.
please keep the suggestions coming.
WOW!!! Thanks s for creating this very cool site!
However, I miss "Locus""

Although Lotus looks ok on tablets, its not a tablet specific nor tablet optimized app. You can find more detail about the requirements on the FAQ section.

Can't find any decent gallery app, anyone seen any with super fancy effects similar to the honeycomb Youtube app?
Its not tablets its Honeycomb
I was excited when I saw a posting about this thread until I actually went to the site. It really isn't a site listing apps designed for the larger, landscape real estate of a tablet but actually a site listing apps that are fully integrated for Android 3.0+ (Honeycomb) instead. There are plenty of tablets that run Android 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 like the one I'm typing on right now. I would appreciate apps that are designed for a tablet as much as the nearest Xoom user.
Quite the disappointment :-(

[Q] Sony Xperia Sirius Live Wallpapers

I've been watching a lot of leaked UI videos of the upcoming Z2 and have fallen in love with the new PS4 themed live wallpapers
After searching the internet for a few days I have found nothing on the subject of someone being able to extract that live wallpaper and make it available for public use.
Has anyone else seen this? It's a nice looking animated live wallpaper and I would like to get my hands on it, so if you know of anything, post it here on this thread.

I believe that most of us are not interested on sony phones and don't know much about, plus you will find more help in Sony xperia apps & themes threads
You might try looking in the xperia sections.
Also keep a look out on zedge and wallbase. I see a lot of different wallpapers from different phones that show up on there.
That makes sense I guess, but I posted it here in case anybody spotted an extraction of the app/lwp that would be compatible with the N5. I'll have a peruse around. Thanks for the reply!
