Thought I would post some progress on the collaborative project between my BF (Stev-o) and myself on our Android Music Program!!!!!
*Also can be found on my Blog at DoesItPew.blogspot.com*
This program need some more rework and a UI....however most of the functions are working decently well. You can use Voice to text for searching or type it in (personally I like using my Swype keyboard). This will generate the individual songs and playlists instantly playable by your media player of choice! Please comment on stuff that just does not work or any suggestions, only been working on this for like 2 months between about 5-6 different projects and working full time (BF is a grad student).
Search for a song on your phone by any information:
This program allows you to find any song on your phone by any metadata about the song. Want to find every song made in 1974? Type in "1974" and you will see a list of all the songs sang in 1974 from your library! Can you only remember pat of a song name or artist name? Type it in and see the results when you hit search! It really is that easy and you won't spend all that time scrolling through menus to find that perfect song for that perfect moment.
Search by Humming or Singing:
This feature is enabled through the use of the NSF funded TuneBot project by Bryan Pardo at Northwestern University. TuneBot is a crowdsourced Sound-Hound alternative that is Free, Open, and Ever-Ex panding. You can contribute to the Database by playing KaraokeCallout on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and play a game too. It is free and highly reccomended. Plus the more you play, the better this program becomes and the bigger the database of songs is! You will see a VU meter pop-up when you try to hum, just make sure it does not go all red when singing as that means that you have had some clipping. This will show you the best matches from your phone music as well as best overall online results if you do not happen to have the song on your device (so that you can get it online - ie Youtube).
Search by Lyrics:
Can't remember the name of that song, but you can remember the refrain? Man, who knew that "Teenage Wasteland" was really "Baba O'Riley" ? The lyric search is provided by Leo's Lyrics and is Super Fast! Just like the searching for Metadata feature, you can type or speak your query. This will return the best matches from your Music on your device as well as the best matches online like the Humming feature.
Here is the Program: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yqg8n5
Sideload it
Background and Future Work:
Basically this project stemmed out of my boyfriend not having bluetooth in his car like I do in mine. He wanted to have voice control instead of fudging with buttons and scrolling through lists every time he wanted to listen to something. Plus, he is pretty mood-music kind of guy and never bothers to put together a playlist. In the future we hope to have voice commands added so that you can be in your car and say "Mix Country and Rap" and to will start playing all of your Country and Rap music for example. Eventally, would be very cool to have voice command dialing of phone numbers too.
Any suggestions, comments and such would be appreciated. I know it is rough and we are working on it y'all!
*EDIT NEW APK WITH ADDITIONAL FEATURES!!!!!!!*

Sounds great,but does Not install ob 2.3 on hd2 :/
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
EDIT:could install but forces closes when trying Tor Start :/

Yeah, I have only tested on 2.1 and 2.2 since we have Evo's.
This is VERY good to know - wonder why it does not install on 2.3? I will work on the code more.

Really like the idea
I'll try to install it on my desire z in a bit (also with 2.3).

installed fine on cm7 nightly 23 but f/c's a lot

Updated code. you will find that now the single song selection feature in near instantanious and works great on gingerbread. No weird closing stuff!

Hi all,
I use this website for several years now, thank you all for sharing all your knowledges, roms, etc ...
Today it's my turn to propote my app
I made a music player with file browsing, 10 months ago, and I updated it.
Did you ever have music files without tags ? (for example ripped from your CDs)
Did you ever add some music in a "new music" folder in your memory card, without knowing exactly all the artist / albums ?
Do you know the "unknown artist" who sings the "Track 01", even if your file name is correct ?
For all those cases, this application will save you
I should work fine on your phone but many of you have custom roms so I would like to have feedbacks.
You can contact me at [email protected]
It should work with any roms,
The UI can support from small screens (320x240) to the biggest one (480x840).
Thank you,
See you !
nico.
Congrats
It seems quite nice.
Gonna try!
Thanks!
I've downloaded and tried this app. It definitely works.
What I would like to see is a design that is more sleek. The music player for 2.1 is a good example of what I'm talking about.

Looks soo cool & better than stock app.
I like it....would be cool to see some album art and maybe a paid version with no ads
seems like a decent app. the interface is very straigtforward and simple, but integrates well with sense. very cool that it is controllable through the applet (as it seems to to use the stock player for actual playback).
i have one suggestion: the fonts are unneccessary big in the file list, can you make them smaller or user selectable?
good to see more music players on the market, i wrote musicflow....
Looking good so far.
+1 for the album art and the graphics.
I have adfree running so can't see the advertising anyway, something you may want to think about because a lot of people have this program.
If I wanted adware i'd have a windows os
Any screens?
@cyberniko
Looks nice but after installation i started it and it gave me a FC on MCR 3.x ROM, didn't started any just launched app.

nice as i am

Do you have the android SDK and avaibility to see the trace of the app ?
My problem is that I plug this app to the music service. This music service has not the same name with htc (because of sense) than in basic android device.
I look the name of the device to choose.
If the name, or the service has changed because of a custom rom, it can be a problem.
Do you have HTC sense on this ROM ?
I will try to look deeper into the device to make this choice... I let you know if I find something.

Can you describe debug proces , never done that before.
I can give you the output of it, maybe it helps.
Tested on hero, works great. It's a really good idea - I'm surprised nobody else thought of it first.
Also, I know this is the wrong part of the forum, but I figured since the dev checks this anyway, and to save time for myself, I'd post here. Tried on N1, force closes when I try pressing buttons.
can't test it for now
but does this app works if i uninstalled the default HTC music player??
@cyberniko,
Don't know what happend but i'm unable to reproduce that FC that i had.
I'll keep you posted.
great job!
Nice. I like this better than the stock
so i test it yesterday, and don't seems to work fo me (i recall that i uninstalled htcMusic.apk )
the app is running but saying that playlist is empty with no way to edit it (or i'm totally blind )

[APP] Bing for Android

Bing for Android
The app homepage features the Bing image of the day, complete with clickable hotspots that you can explore and discover related trivia. Did you miss one of the latest images? Don’t worry; you can still swipe through up to 7 days’ worth of Bing images.

Are you a visual person? Try the image search feature that has endless scrolling results (Tip: this also works for any search result). Then easily swipe through image previews and click straight through to the image host site.
Now, do you see the mic option on the homepage? Our investment in voice search continues in our Android App and works great for searches like map locations as well as web search. This works especially well when looking for “Instant answers” which give you quick and relevant answers for things like movies, stock quotes, flight status and local listings.
Just say “movies,” for a quick result of movie listings, theaters and show times nearby, or say the flight information you are looking for, we will show you the departure, arrival, and other relevant information such as traffic, weather, news, and hotels details.
Voice search is also great when it comes to your local business listings. Give it a try, even something complex, hold the phone to your ear and speak, or press the mic button—it’s that simple.
The Android app also has a pretty smooth mapping feature. First, Bing will automatically find your current location. You can then easily discover new places by category such as restaurants, banks, theaters and you can choose whether you want walking or driving directions. Swipe through each step of your directions, and check out how fast the map pans and zooms. For times when you only have one hand free and can’t pinch, there is the handy zoom-out button.
There are a bunch of other features we’d love to tell you about, like local listing reviews, ratings and news. But rather than drone on about them, just download the app from your Android’s Marketplace, give it a spin and let us know what you think.

I don't understand why they want to make it exclusive to Verizon. MS doesn't need profit but user share. One does not build user base by being exclusive.
thanks for posting this!
Thanks a lot man, these exclusive deals are really annoying. Only Verizon can get Skype, Bing, and NFL Mobile? That's not right...
Thanks alot for posting this!
Is this a patched version of the apk or the same 'exclusive' Verizon one?
I would love to get that Sprint exclusive Blackboard app...

God bing sucks
I downloaded bing and searched for "Health Clubs and Fitness", and bing doesn't even list the Gold's gym I go to 5 miles from my house.
went to Google maps and did the same search, and of course, it lists Gold's as the third result. Right where it should be since it's the third closest gym to my house. Not only that, but the search results for Google all show a pic of the location, not so with bing.
deleted bing. I don't have time for a search engine that is still a beta. Actually, calling it a beta is being too kind. bing is simply a cheap knockoff of a search engine compared to Google
Thought it was kinda cool until i realized theres no flash. Uninstalled
Any way to map to search button? I might a actually use it xD.
I'm annoyed with MS until they give me their native MSN app

Cyanogenmod 9 Music Player Available Now

SOURCE : Kickedface
Fans of custom ROMs may already know that there’s a rewritten version of the standard Android music app coming to CyanogenMod 9. Well, the wait’s over, and you can download an alpha version of “Apollo” now.
Click here for the APK file – you don’t even have to be rooted, just install it via the standard non-Market method. Unfortunately, you still need an ICS device to use it. Source : Android Central

Apollo takes quite a lot of inspiration from Google Music, though there’s currently no way to actually access your music stored in the cloud. The interface has a lot in common with Google’s own player, though the color scheme is an off white.
Theme support is planned for the project. At present there’s not a whole lot that Apollo can do that even older versions of the default music player can’t, with the notable exception of a built-in equalizer.
One of the more glaring omissions is the lack of a landscape mode, a big disappointment to anyone who listens to music while their phone is in a car dock. Even so, it should be a solid alternative when it’s finished – lockscreen controls are already enabled, I will suggest you to give it a try if you’re looking for something a little different in your music player.
I hope that still the issues get sorted out soon.
There are already many things that need to change and the more I use it, the longer the list becomes.
Nice alternative to the stock music player, it's "recently added" tracks view is a nice feature when you're adding tons of music a day ^_^
I can't get it to work via AVRCP and the bluetooth in my car, but that may be a ROM limitation because no other app will work either >_>
Why don't they support Android 2.3 like Google play music :/

My bad just saw it on the site after I posted this comment already.
Really excited about the app finally some real super app for music: D
I used it for a couple months before it was rebranded Apollo, the dev never updated it, and it was buggy as hell. Now they took away the holo blue theme? Probably so they can release it as a paid add-on. FAIL. There are half a dozen better music apps than this.
Thanks for your sharing..

Hello all,
As a guitar player I've been missing a proper mobile application to record ideas that might pop into my head when I don't have a guitar (or recording studio) around. I got the idea of quickly being able to tap down tabulature and rythm into an app one year ago and started developing the app immediately. It has taken a long while, especially getting that latency down and make a responsive user experience. I've released the first version which I think many people will find useful, but I will continue to develop more features based on user feedback.
Creating a riff or solo is a two step process.
1. Touch all the notes you want in your riff. This includes bends, vibratos, palm mutes, chords etc. Do not think about timing of the notes, that's in step 2.
2. Press the "Record" button (button with circle in middle on top of screen). Tap when the next note should be played / strummed until the end of the song.
If you are happy you can now save the riff, or experiment further.
If you'd like to store the current state of your riff, you can save and clone it to continue in another file.
Anyways, I'd like to tell you about my app, hopefully you like it. It's available for Android phones currently, and should work on both phones and tablets.
Watch demonstration and get it at Google Play. :cyclops:
Also, suggestions or feedback is most welcome!

I've been looking for something like this for a very long time. I often have riff ideas and humming them into my phones voice recorder doesn't cut it.
This will work great! Thanks for the hard work!

Thanks for the positive feedback my own techniqe involved repeating the riffs in my head until I believed I would remember them... and I didn't , and many good ideas got lost on the train home...
I'm afraid that you forgot to add a link to play store!

Sorry didn't saw that you got low posts count
I've just watched the video and that looks great. I think I may have to check this out a bit more once I get time. Excellent app.
Here's a play link for those interested: Mod edit: Link removed.
@guitarman8 While I appreciate the effort and hard work that's gone into this, and may well buy the app myself, you're not allowed to use us to advertise paid apps unless there is also a free version.
I'll close this thread for now, but PM me when there's a free version and I'll open it for you again

Changing Apple Music on Android's album layout? (Pixel 5a)

Apologies for how relatively tech-illiterate this'll probably sound, I am not generally a tech person, I just have this very specific problem I've been trying to fix for years and this seems like a place that might be able to give me an answer if there is one
Backstory for where my troubles began: a long time ago, the standard music app on apple phones (aka what is used to play apple music) had albums, songs, artists, etc laid out in columns, with album art listed vertically on the left side of the screen and titles listed in the same row. This worked well for me. For visual reference:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Currently, songs, playlists, and artists are still arranged in this manner. However, at some point the album tab adopted a different layout entirely; rows and columns of album art, titles listed under the art, with no more than 6 albums onscreen at any given time, though with how big the albums are and how they get partially obscured while scrolling its often closer to 4. Again, for visual reference:
I really can't stand this. I have never been able to stand it and in all the years of using this stupid app I have never been able to get used to it. I like to browse my libraries; whether it's music, movies, books, whatever I like having collections that I can scan through, it's an integral part of how I consume media. The app being arranged this way makes this near impossible for me- there's so little onscreen at a time, it's like if any time I wanted to scan my bookshelf I had to put up an empty picture frame in front of my face and only look at the five books visible through that frame at a time. It makes finding music to listen to a big pain every time and I know it's not really THAT big a deal all things considered but I'm fed up with it at this point, it's like a splinter that won't go away. The rows system let me actually scan across titles effectively. I just want THAT back. That is the only thing I want back in regards to this app.
I might switch to another music streaming app, but there would be a lot of complications with that for various reasons; for the sake of this thread pretend that's not an option. Is there any way to jailbreak/hack into/use add ons for the music app on android in a way that could change the way the album tab layout looks on the app? Or, are there third party apple music apps on android that solve this issue? If this isn't the place to ask this or there's something more specific I ought to be asking let me know; I'm just looking for any fix anywhere I can find it at this point.
