Sunspider results.. are fantastic. - Thunderbolt General

Using the stock browser.. i'm getting about 4600ish results..
Using Dolphin Mini i've hit a crazy 39XX score... this is the fastest stock Android phone i've ever seen/researched. The only other phone that gets CLOSE to these scores is the MyTouch 4G.
My previous Fascinate on a custom kernel at 1ghz set to performance mode (forcing to 1ghz fulltime) is only scoring 59XX..
i bet an overclocked Hummingbird at 1.3ghz still can't touch the stock Thunderbolt.
This is amazing!
Thoughts?

I hate to burst your bubble but I just ran a 4123ms Sunspider on my Nexus S running cm7 on 1Ghz stock kernel. I'm considering switching to Verizon though for the Thunderbolt. I'm particularly interested in how the screen is, and mainly the black levels.
Edit: just ran at 1.4Ghz for comparison purposes at got a 3154. The Glacier overclocks very well so the Thunderbolt should be able to put up some good numbers as well.

MT4G vs. Nexus S Benchmarks

I've always tought that the hummingbird would humiliate the snapdragon with some optimisations. But it even performs worse than a sgs (running AOSP/CM)

You have to put into account that 4G uses MySense and loads of bloated ware where the Nexus S use AOSP pure Google experience. Hell load MT4G with AOSP or CM on it, it'll blow the nexus s away.

That and it's cheaper to boot. $449 vs $529
I think if mytouch 4G would run CM or some vanilla Froyo w/ OC, It blow away Nexus

The MT4G already blows the Nexus S away. The benchmarks are a fairly good indicator of that.
Yeah, make sure you are reading those benchmarks right, the MT4G kills it.
I think the mt4g is faster no need for benchmarks I notice it on everyday use considering I've had the vibrant and the ns is just a rebadged galaxy s.

Heck, I just think it's cool to own a device that performs so well compared to other high end devices. After owning a G1 for over a year, having the MT4G is a treat!
These benchmarks make my mouth water... Now ****ing xmas needs to be here so I can have my mt4g (that or the wife needs to develop a heart, I should pack up her G2 & tell her she can use our old MDA until Xmas)
The bench marks only show how incomprable the two processors are. And how unreliable benchmarks are. Dont trust neocore. The phones are so fast they cap out the built in fps limits of the phones. Interesting how the losing phone in neocore get 10 fps more running quake. Thats almost 25% more. Also interesting that quadrant cpu is right on par but linpack is still low. I have no idea why qualcom chips do so well in linpack. They obviously have a distinct advantage there. Yet hummingbirds some how do as well on froyo roms in quadrant.
I/0 scores vary wildly with galaxy s phones. Rfs always give a very low score. But there have been "lag fixes" that blow the score out of proportion well beyond anything else in quadrant. CM although buggy gets huge scores all over cept for linpack. A CM dev said the low I/O was something samsung did. It may be that the nexus s has the same problem.
Im not putting the mt4g down. Not at all. Just the benchmarks. I think the galaxy phones still have the best gpu. But if I could get a mt4g unlocked or a nexus s it would be a hard decision. ( im on ATT)
Im partial to samsung after doing repairs to my captivate and an evo. I felt that the htc was built like a toy. But as far as user experience hatch wins every time.

So you're saying those guys over at AnandTech one of the most trusted reliable source don't know what they're doing,LOL. Even while they're doing a reviews about Nexus S they were amaze at MT4G. Talk about HTC Phone bieng Like a toy, look at the Vibrant for 500.00 buck it's a joke with that kind of money i expect not to be lagging and GPS works out of the box,and don't tell me there's a fix online it's easy to fix.Like one of my MT4G user said it real well, Nexus S is just a rebadged of the

I want to see those mt4g benchmarks with gingerbread. I do agree that benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's always nice to come out on top
Yes and they should just be glad they did not have a OC kernel with a trimmed ROM or that nexus S would have been smacked and knocked back to kindergarten.
I have been confused at why the MT4G has not challenged or even been compared to the Nexus S??? All this waiting and hype about the Nexus S and finally it comes out and (IMHO) is a disappointment. Now reading what everyone is *****ing about, No HSPA+, expandable memory, ram and not made by HTC.... Well MT4G has all those!!! Minus the SAMOLED, I think the MT4G is THE better phone. Now with some numbers to look at...Its looking sweeet! Best part is, "The 45nm Snapdragons with Adreno 205 GPUs have proven completely competent performers (and I'm not even finished testing the myTouch 4G yet)"!!!!!! Can someone please put these two in the octagon!!
This sums it all up
I got the MT4G but also want the Nexus S just because I know it will have more developer support than the MT4G , I dont care about benchmarks just user experience, lets see the people reactions when they get it
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
After exchanging my original MT4G for one with a "superior" display, this phone is most certainly a force to be reckoned with. Yes, the SAMOLED display is great, but highly overrated. I remember doing a side-by-side comparison of my old Vibrant with a G2, only to find that the G2's display more than held its own next to the Vibrant. Even with its washed out display, my original MT4G outclassed the Vibrant in every aspect - the new one, with it's better display, is not even in the same league.
Since it's been established that the Nexus S is basically an aesthetically revised Galaxy S, it's safe to say that the MT4G vs. Nexus S comparisons will yield the same results as MT4G vs. Vibrant. Say what you want about benchmarks, but numbers don't usually lie (unless, of course, you're Bernie Madoff).
That's my reason for getting the nexus s too. Its the rom support and user experience. I've had this phone since almost the day it came out. Its got every feature you could want, but though it looks and feels expensive, htc has major qc issues. I've yet to see one without a blown out white screen either. If they had blessed the phone with a better display, changed the plastic below the screen a little, and made it with asop, the mt4g would be the best phone ever made.
Battery life is excellent, it's fast, and has all the latest hard ware. Just upsets me that with all the specs this thing has, they give it such a poor display. I mean you look at that every time you pick up the phone, and espresso sense themes expose that even more with all the greys and off blacks.

MT4G vs. LG G2x

I'm already running sense 3.0 on this device.hmmm, yeah maybe the sgs2 will do.
Only issue is that there might not be a SGS2 for T-mo. The names have been revealed for all carriers, but there's no sign of one for us. The G2X is better than the MT4G in it's specs, but wait 7 days and get the sensation. bigger screen, better processor, and HTC build quality. Also, it doesn't look like it will be super expensive. Walmart will have it for 150 on contract.

Only the processor is better. It has a lot less RAM (512 vs the MT4G's 768). I would never want to run a ROM like Virtuous Fusion on the G2x with such little RAM.
I'm just saying I have used a g2x and its very snappy.

I went from MT4G to G2X. It is faster - even without an android ROM that optimizes duel core (true for all of them), which was to be 2.4 - but that has been pushed way back.
The Sensation is supposed to have the boot loader locked - so forget flashing anything. There is chatter about HTC coming out with an unlocking mechanism - but I would not buy that device based on maybe it will get unlocked.
Some have gotten quadrent scores of 5000+ with CM7 and faux kernel (Max OC "only" 1500 currently). It has a better camera then the sense camera on MT4G, but I never liked the sense one - it had too much compression, so used camera app form the market on my MT4G.
HTC confirmed that they were working on an update for the sensation to unlock its bootloader. I would not worry about it.

I went from the G2x to the MT4G (gave up on the G2x because of backlight bleeding). I honestly didn't feel much of a difference. Virtuous Fusion on my MT4G runs fast enough for anything and with Chainfire3D, I can play all the Tegra 2 games and do everything fast as I need. I was originally planning on getting the Sensation. I still might, but I'm considering waiting til the Tegra 3 and comparable phones come out.
I would wait till next year when they start making Quad-core phones, which is in Qualcomm's roadmap, and probably others too. The G2X will be outdone by the SGSII(Fastest Phone now, blows G2X ) . The Sensation is slower than the SGSII, but is still a good phone nonetheless. Not really worth the upgrade from the MT4G. If you care about things like ram, companies are starting to use 1GB ram and hopefully they increase ROM size for more internal storage.

Agreed. For me this phone will totally be enough for the next year and a half thanks to the awesome work of the dev community. Rooting and flashing a custom ROM has given my phone new life, so personally I can now confidently wait to get my next "uber" phone when my contract expires.
it seems that the g2x has alot of problems compared to mytouch 4g. the one i was able to use kept shutting off and on!
i would wait for something worthwhile!
One of my coworkers has this phone. I messed around with it for a while and it seems to be pretty nice, but not quite enough of an upgrade for me to ditch this phone for.

Almost every phone on XDA started out with a locked bootloader. You make no sense with your comment about a locked bootloader. My MyTouch came locked but look at how fast that was bypassed.
BTW: HTC has already stated publicly that an OTA update will unlock it in the near future.
Im with the others, not worth an upgrade. just wait until the quads come out
I love the MT4G. I still have my Nexus One but with 768MB RAM, I can find NO reason to upgrade at this point. And to compound that decision, all the recent reviews have said that the screen is lackluster at best. Sure the higher resolution is nice but if you don't couple that with a great screen it does NO good at all.
And that great device (Sensation) still comes with the same RAM as the MT4G. Sorry, but at a time when tech prices are what they are, packing 1GB+ into a smartphone should be the baseline standard. If I upgraded to anything right now it would be the SGS2 but I intend to wait for quad cores to pop up. My desktop and laptop both have quad cores so my phone should too.
The MT4G with CM7 runs fantastic.
I have a g2x right now, my wife has a mytouch4g. The g2x is quicker, and has more potential. I can say though, it isn't significantly quicker for having a dual core processor and vanilla android, and it definitely does have more software issues.
I (just like others) thought the issues complained about were exaggerated and I was lucky enough to get a g2x without issues. The screen bleeding isn't horrible, but I have had the random reboots (usually daily). Battery life is poor at best, there isn't any lagging but it does stumble and freeze for a second occasionally. Great at multitasking and gaming though.
My wife is pretty picky about her phones and complains if there are any issues... I haven't heard her complain about the mytouch except low earpiece volume.

Well, both my Cyanogen and MIUI ROMS on my MT4G run better than the G2X. Not my opinion. That is fact. I have a G2X here as well and it doesn't run anywhere as good as my MT4G with either ROM.

Would you happen to know why CM7 runs so poorly on the G2x?
And I agree. CM7 on a MT4G makes it feel like it was never meant to be a Sense phone. So smooth....

And who says Sidekicks are for teens ;)

So I'm at work (I now work at UPS, btw) and this late 20s, early 30's woman comes in looking to ship a package. I go ring her total up, then I noticed out the corner of my eye the slide from the sidekick 4g.
So we had a short conversation about how we both like a good qwerty and how nice it feels. It made me feel good because my best friend, who has an EVO, keeps telling me not to get one because nobody has one.
I'm not one to buy a phone based off of popularity, but based off of what I like. In about 2 weeks I'll be (officially) part of the SK4G family!
It really is the best Keyboard in TM's Android line up. It just seemed to be buggy from the start, not to mention considering it's Samsung updates come once in a Blue Moon.
I've always liked the Sidekick family, even though the first Sidekick I had was the ID. It served me well until I lost my data plan. I heard the LX and SL or whatever else there was, were great improvements and now I'm the proud owner of a 4G. I love it! It's got the feel of a Sidekick with all the perks Android has to offer. My only qualms are battery life and (occasionally) speed and lagging. I rooted my phone, and it seems to be performing much better, but this is all fairly new to me, so I'll have to have a friend who is more experinced with rooting and ROMs take a look at it.
Note... the sidekick may be fully functional, and a great messaging phone, but it is also a low end smartphone. You will notice graphics lag everywhere, it won't hinder you from doing anything, its just not pretty.
What im saying is... don't compare it to the evo. Its a real shame that Tmo doesn't have high end keyboard phones. On the other hand, I can actually type faster on the vibrant then on the Sidekick. The bigger the screen, the easier virtual keyboards become.
My low end sidekick 4g is way faster than my cousins evo, sense bogs you phone worse than touch wiz.... those " loading" screens when going back to the homescreen are annoying as heck, and not to mention the repopulation of apps when opening the app drawer too... it almost reminds me of my old g1...................................

Even though the perfect screen size for me is 4'', this phone has everything I wanted. And remember, 1ghz and 512mb ram were at one time high end specs.

Last I checked 1.2ghz dual core Snapdragon processor with Adreno 220 gpu(yes, the same gpu as the Sensation, Amaze and Evo 3d), 8mp camera, 1080p video AND A KEYBOARD would be considered high end.....
The Sidekick 4g doesn't hold a candle to the MT4GS...not one iota. Sorry to those I might offend but I'm speaking from experience.....as the SK4G and the MT4GS are a couple of the phones I currently own and use every day....in fact I'll go as far as saying I'd ditch my SK4G for another G2 given the opportunity. Giving up the G2 for a SK4G was a big mistake to start with as the G2 had a lot more going for it. The ONLY thing the SK4G has that the G2 doesn't? A FFC....who uses it anyways?

Exactly.
It's UNDERCLOCKED from the factory to 1.2ghz. It should actually be running 1.5ghz. If a single core G2 can be OC'd to 1.9ghz, imagine overclocking both cores..?!??!
IMO from what I have read the hummingbird kicks the crap out of almost everything on the market still in terms of graphics performance, I just wish we could OC higher like the G2 but we aren't going to get that kind of support needed for a kernel that crazy
I'd love a dual core but I can't deal with a touchscreen only phone or a crappy keyboard (tried G2 and MT4GS) I couldn't ever get speed like I can on a sidekick. I went from an LX to a G1 and that was a nice keyboard but every phone I had after that was painful to type on. I will be holding out until another phone comes out with a comparable keyboard before I upgrade from this one. A dual or quad core would be nice but I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything major right now besides being able to tinker with it ;P

Well not really. The Sensation is clocked at 1.2 ghz. And so is the Evo 3d. But the Amaze has a 1.5 snapdragon s3 processor. Different from the Sensation and evo 3d. Even if the it was 1.5ghz it still won't get the same performance as the Amaze and Evo 3d because they are newer processors. I believe that when you overclock a phone with dualcores it overclocks both core. Not just one..

Wrong and right. We can currently oc to 1.7 using the virtuous unity kernels but if you try to oc using apps like setcpu it will show as being overclocked but it only oc's one core since setcpu doesn't support it yet. So it depends on how you try to oc. However setcpu works just fine for underclocking both cores.

I have owned every SK since the B&W, with the exception of the slide, and having given the 3 immediately away as an "Oh Crap, it's your birthday today?!" gift to an ex.
Extremely solid phones, from my experience. Having been a Jr./Sr. High schooler through most of the models, I put them to the test. In fact, on multiple occasions I had pulled out my SKII and played hackysack with it. I also sprayed it to the point of immersion with a hose one day when doing yardwork and the lil guy just kept on goin. The 3 was a bit finicky, but I enjoyed making custom skins for it. From what I hear the slide was a piece so I'm glad I avoided that one.
My phone prior to the SK4G was the G2, and I have given a fair comparison in another thread so no need to do that here. I see the strengths in the G2 and if I were not a SK guy I would have been extremely happy.
Now, the only reason I've ever had to hate on the SK is the false market that they attempt to sell it to. When the 1st gen hiptop released I was 13. For as cool as it was, it was underpowered for me. They have continued to give me outdated or slow hardware ever since. I would easily have spent more money every single time for a phone that would actually hold it's own amongst the big boys for a while. Looking at this years model - Hummingbird... 512mb ram... 3mp camera with no flash .. really?
However, I love the design. I've been spoilt for fast typing keyboards (On previous models I would out-type the screen and have to wait a good 10 sec to watch it get typed out. Heck, I've written 3-4 page reports on the LX during the class it was assigned). I've been spoilt for multitasking via jump shortcuts. Bringing android into the mix was a great move.

Nexus S ICS vs. competition

What are the feelings on the Nexus S with ICS versus other high performing devices like GS2, RAZR, Amaze, etc.? Has anyone gone "backwards"? Do you miss the dual core?

nexus s ftw hahaha
Friend of my got a SGS2, my Nexus S is running alot faster (with ICS) than his device..
So no way, I don't need a Dual Core device!
Sgs2 blows the nexus s out of the water.

SgsII also has aspect of **** ass touchwiz running on the constant, which hinders it a bit. Although I'm sure the dual cores and extra power over our lovely nexus make up for that.
Follow the leader @corythug
Lol touchwiz on a gs2 doesn't hinder it...at all. It smokes my Nexus s 4g. I love my nexus...but gs2 w Mali beatsmy phone to death
Same my cousin has a sgs2 and its must so fast

B4 i switched to ICS i was running Miui with the trinity 1544 kernel and my NS4G would score higher than my rooted oc'd 1.6 dual core GS2.. I would get consistent 5000+ on my NS4g and my GS2 gets around 4400's

I could care less about an io hack haha. Stock for stock my ns4g doesn't compare to a sprint gs2. Period.
I'm all too familiar w trinity. The 25 mflops. The buss speed increase. Hell i can input a command to trick quadrant into producing ridiculous numbers. I hope you don't think I am arguing w you when I say that the et4g Or gs2 on sprint is superior currently in terms of hardware and speed to almost every other android in production right now.
We purchased ours due to my wife releasing her epic 4g from an 8 foot drop to concrete. I don't care if it ever gets ics. On gb it easily surpasses my ns4g and her old epic w ease. I'm amazed it doesn't get more attention than the countless reviews pointing out all the sweet stuff it does. We have 0 Los issues and for me, until a better phone (in terms of hardware) comes out I am 100% content w it. I can't compare a modded nexus to the gs2 due to the fact that even my ns4g, at the time, running 4800 quadrants (which are meaningless due to massive io hack) still couldn't compete w its bigger more powerful counterpart. Its like comparing and Xbox to an Xbox 360
Bump... Anyone else ? What about things like camera quality, battery life, standard performance?

Not sure why would anyone want to go back.
I want to upgrade to an Galaxy Nexus, but I don't see myself coming back to the NS after that. Something better in the future, definitely. But no NS once I upgrade.
I know it's not really the same but when I had my ns with ics yea it was good but traded it for a focus flash and I feel like ics can't compare to Mingo.

So let alone the other high end Android devices like the sgs2

I had a HTC Sensation till last week and now I use a Nexus S with ICS as daily driver.
The Sensation was really fast under CM7, but my Nexus S is smoother under ICS. I think that the ICS release for Sensation will be very fast, but I really hate Sense, and I wanted a stock ICS which is designed for my phone, not a custom ROM.
I really don't miss my Sensation !
The gs2 is so fast I can imagine what ics will do

Test drove a Galaxy Nexus today.

My buddy got one, he loves it. Had to put it through it's paces. Some good news, most Senseless roms outperform the Galaxy Nexus is day to day operations. Don't get me wrong, my ARHD + AOSP V41 theme (Basically a slightly updated VI4.0.1) only opened applications .5 seconds to 1 second faster, but my point is that it is indeed faster.
Very good to know when it comes to phone shopping. I'm not gonna say the GNex lags like crazy and it's sooooo slowwwww but you get the gist. He does, however, have CRT-off .
Still, very cool.
So you're comparing a highly tweaked kernel and rom against a stock rom? It doesn't work that way lol...
I seriously doubt that the sensation will outperform the galaxy nexus as it doesn't even outperform the galaxy s2...
PS.: I have both sensation and sgs2 and as much as I love the sensation, it can never achieve the smoothness and speed of a tweaked sgs 2 rom... (cm7 vs cm7 and cm9 vs cm9)

ARHD is stock kernel unless you choose otherwise, I did not choose otherwise. All I'm saying is that a Sense rom with most Sense removed was slightly faster than my buddies GNex, which also had a custom rom.
You can't assume his is stock and you can't assume I have this special, magical kernel.

Ok, shame on me, I jumped to conclusions
I have international version of GSM Galaxy Nexus updated and running latest ICS 4.0.4 and I can definitely see a lag compared to Sensation (which now belongs to my wife) running AOSP ROM and 1.5 Ghz kernel. Heck, even kids Vibrants running either ICS or 2.2 ROMs are silky smooth compared to Galaxy Nexus.
Now Galaxy Nexus pushes significantly more pixels than either Sensation and especially Vibrant but I thought better GPU, A9 CPU and original Google ROM will more than make up for it but it is not the case. Nexus however is much better in battery and overall to me feels like a much more solid phone. I am in minority here but like plastic more than slippery HTC aluminium and display is better anyway, so happy with it so far.
