Samsung Galaxy s 4g OR Evo 4G? - General Topics

Which one do you guys suggest? Which phone is better long-term?
I just want a phone that's worth getting on a 2 year contract.
If you have any better suggestions for me, Please only suggest phones between Sprint and Tmobile.
Thanks.

try galaxy... better battery

Sprint is getting the Nexus S 4g.

HTC all the way = Evo!

I much prefer the samsung screens, so the galaxy gets my vote. Everyone I know with an EVO has terrible battery life, as well.

Either phone you're gonna have terrible battery life. Galaxy S devices, 4 inch super amoled screen, plus 4g.

The Galaxy S 4G is nice but app storage is low. The Evo is far worse long term.. it launched in June and it was already lagging behind the competition a month later. It's processing power is way below that of the Galaxy S 4G.

Core for core, Snapdragon is actually faster than Cortex A8. Now it's the rest of the chip that you need to look at, such as the powerVR chip inside hummingbird being faster than the Adreno chip inside Snapdragon. Really though, their performance cpu vs cpu you'll only really notice a difference in synthetic benchmarks like linpack. Dev community is amazing for the Evo.

Really? Benchmarks or real world performance? Because the Evo can't even handle TeamLava games without falling on it's face at the stock 1GHz clock.

Good news

Hi,
The major difference between these two smartphone is “Data network”, Evo use “4G/WiMAX network” (Sprint) and Samsung Galaxy S use “3G GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HDMA” (T-Mobile). The screen size of Evo 4G is greater than Samsung Galaxy’s screen. Evo has 8mp camera and Galaxy has 5mp. Due to these features, my vote goes to “HTC Evo 4G”.

i like samsung more

Everyone and their grandmother knows that Samsungs 5MP camera is a billion years better than Evo's 8MP camera. You're one of those megapixel numbers persons...bigger number, better shooter.
Your lack of knowledge in that area alone disqualifies anything else you have to recommend.
Also WTH is "HDMA" ?

evo 4g all the way good pal

Thanks for your information

The modding community of the Evo is unmatched by the Galaxy S.
Also, the interface is much much better than Samsung's.

Galaxy have better resolution! ...

who cares what anybody thinks, they're both great phones with great features, just decide if you want to choose by phone or carrier and pick the one u like more ,simple....

[Q] HTC sensation or Galaxy s 2??

I don't know which to get I am tore in between both o the phones. Spec wise the galaxy s 2 wins but HTC sense is far better than touchwiz the only thing would suit me will be sense on the galclaxy s 2 but I have heard that it mite hard to port :-\

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4d-wWCf4CQ&feature=feedu
Spec wise the Galaxy S2 lose.
The new snapdragon looks like more powerfull than tegra 2 / exynos, they give you a screen with more resolution and not using pentile, real rgb not 50% more of amoled plus that is less than real stripe.
a little less ram, but who uses 1gb of ram in a phone?
The only things for what I am going to buy the Galaxy S2, is because in 10 years, HTC has not make a decent camera on a phone and a decent audio quality in par with the iphone or the first galaxy, and this are for me totally killer features. Oh, and the internal phone storage.
In the battle HTC sense vs touchwiz, who cares, at the end most of the people turn off that programs and ends using adw or launcher pro.
It's a tough one. Up until HTC Sensation was announced, I was settled on SGS II. But now I'm in a dilemma.
However, SGS II has a better screen - lower resolution, but using SAMOLED+ instead of SLCD (and the difference is notable). SGS II also has a better front camera, more internal memory (a LOT more, 16 GB vs 1 GB), larger battery capacity, and it's thinner.
HTC on the other hand has a better camera, higher screen resolution, dual-led flash, and it's also on T-Mobile. It also comes with a 8 GB microSD card.

You nailed it for me. While I'm not really familiar with processors, the EVO 4G has a terrible camera and sound quality. Now I'm considering waiting for a sprint galaxy s2 instead of upgrading to the EVO 3D. I know that both phones will be good, but having the better quality photos and video will make me happy.

Apart from the higher resolution offered on Sensation, i can't see how SGSII loses in terms of spec. Initial benchmarks show Exynos perform much better than the new Snapdragon (which is based on the older A8 cortex) but i guess we juz have to wait till May when comparison can be done on retail units instead of those prototypes.
Can't agree more about the camera on HTC phones though. and thats why i'm getting rid of my Desire soon=)
I would have liked to get the Sensation, but I am in an AT&T contract.
Even if I decided to kill the contract and move to T-Mobile, I would be kinda screwed when AT&T acquires TMobile and then the Sensation will not be able to use 3G on AT&T since it does not support the bands.
So between the two I am pretty much forced to get the GS2, or wait and hope the a Sensation build will eventually support AT&T bands, which I will not do...
GS2 looks good enough, but TouchWiz looks awful
edit: ok maybe TW isn't so bad

I'm not so sure about that part. HTC has never been known to release phones with great cameras. Average at best, but not great. E.g desire hd, Mozart, HD2, desire, HD7. They're all average in their leagues.
Samsung on the other hand does release phones with great camera quality. E.g. Wave, Omnia HD, Pixon 12.
However since they haven't released the phone or shown any sample pictures, guess it's too early to judge.

Thought it was a joke when he said HTC has a better camera..
You are probably right about being early to judge Sensation but we're almost certain SGSII is coming with an awesome camera which is confirmed in most previews.
HTC the better camera? Perhaps a #sarcasm tag was needed before that.
In terms of whether the CPU/GPU is better, remains to be seen, there are benchmarks which show each one outperforming the other. Furthermore remains to be seen whether there is any difference in use, even if one is better than the other by a reasonable margin.
For me, I don't like the crappy cameras of HTC and their habbit of crippling great phones with underppwered batteries...I love my HD2 but I cannot forgive HTC for putting a 1230 mAh battery which barely manages to last through a working day!

Samsung infuse 4g

So, since this is basically a larger, overclocked Captivate with a better camera, do you guys think it'd be possible to port something from it?
I probably am completely off the mark here, but if they improved the GPS software, it could be useful.

I'm wondering the same thing. It's confusing where this device will be supported (hopefully a mod can post a thread for the device if necessary).
Possibly, but man 200 is too much for that phone. Its only marginally better than the Captivate. They should be introducing the Galaxy S2. I would hold out for that rather then jump on this phone. This phone will phase out our beloved Captivate.

No. The infuse is a phone being released may 15th sporting a 1200mhz processor (dunno if its just an oc version of ours), a ff camera, a 8mp back camera and a larger/nicer/sharper screen.
The galaxy s2 is a dual core beast that just dropped in europe and has been submitted to the fcc with att bands, so it'll be out by the end of this year/early next

Same processor, according to the specs on GSMArena. Not that much improvement over the Cappy.
Another thing I'm wondering is regarding the battery life of this phone. I suppose they'll place a larger battery but an extra 1/2 inch of screen is a lot.

well the drawback of the cappy is the lack of a camera flash. though the cammera does way better in low light than many phones out there, a flash is nice for the close range shots in near total darkness. like in a club or something. also gsm arena and others are frequently wrong. one of those sites was saying that the i9010 armani had a front facing camera, they basically borrowed the spec sheet from the i9000 assuming it was the same in but in a captivate form factor. right now all the sites are woring off rumors and assuptions. not official specifications
the best assumption is that the processor is at minimum the same series because the orrigonal ad from janurary has the word hummingbird in it. but that doesnt mean the same part number or specifications or that the add from janurary even reflects the actual features. at that time the form of the phone wasnt even final, the battery door hadn't been finalized. then the back of the phone was smooth and now it is textured and looks like the sgs2 but bigger. it is posible specs have changed and maybe why the samsung site and att use the words "powerful 1.2 ghz application processor" without a name or series or description beyond that.
there are also alternatives to the galaxy s coming out with the qualcom scorpion/snapdragon chips clocked at 1.4 ghz(they need to be that fast to get the 3d graphics up to par with our chip because the adreno 205 is not quite as fast as the powervr sgx540 wth open gl). these phones will have 1080p recording and playback, similar or marginally faster 3d graphics and way faster cpu. there will be the galaxy s plus and the galaxy s 2 mini running on this chip (supposedly) so there is even a chance that the infuse will have a qualcom chip of some kind. it should get announces very soon officially. a rumor was there is a conference in nyc with samsung and att today presumably to unveil it with updated/officail specs

i can always return it for another captivate. i may regret screwing myself out of a sgs2 but i dont think there is much on that phone i will need to have. i guess i could buy a sgs2 outright if i really get an itch for it. if i get one id rather have the international model anyway.

What am I missing - Galaxy SII

I don't get what I am so suppose to be in love with when it comes to the SII vs Infuse 4g.
Now I am strictly comparing the US Specced SII (european I suppose as well since it is the same) vs Infuse 4g.
The infuse has a bigger screen and bigger battery.
The S2 has dual core and a small battery and smaller screen.
So I am going to get dual core eating monster with a smaller battery? Battery life on the Infuse is OK, good, but nothing crazy. The S2 must be awful?
Now if we were getting the 1.5ghz dual core with some form of LTE I could see a little more attraction.
personally though I'll be olding off for something better.
Dual core
1 gig of ram
It's only slightly smaller - actually feels better in your hand.
Gingerbread 2.3.4 from the carrier
Better GPS lock
I'm still wondering if it has the chip needed for voodoo sound though...
It's not a huge difference but you get gingerbread out the box, touchwiz 4.0, dual core, 1080p recording, hdmi(infuse as well), thx soluscado totally slipped my mind, etc. The infuse is ok but i'm probably getting rid of mine. The checkered loading is driving me crazy.
I agree with the OP. The dual core proc seems like a "meh" addition, especially considering the battery trade-off. I just don't use TouchWiz anyway, so that's irrelevant. The bigger screen is a BIG deal to me, and any video I take with my phone is displayed on my phone, so 1080p recording is irrelevant. I'm pretty sure you get HDMI out on the Infuse as well, but I have no use for that either. And the Gingerbread enhancements are so minor (to me) that I really couldn't care less whether it's available OOB or not.

Yea no point. I'll stick with my infuse until samsung releases an lte phone on att like ours or the s2. Or wait for googles next phone and hope that is lte as well.
Dual core is not enough reason to upgrade, I want real 4g speeds.
Infuse running Serendipity VII
If the GPS chip is better than that of the infuse then I'm switching. I use the GPS more than anything else on the phone and that is a deal breaker for me. If the infuse had a perfect working GPS, I'd take it over the s2 anyday.

I know this topic has come up a few times in the month or so I've owned my infuse and watched these forums, and I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering if it's worth the switch to the AT&T-branded SGSII. Honestly the thing I'd have wanted most from the European SGSII was the physical Home button, but that didn't make it over here (needs more patent litigation).
I do agree that the .2" off the screen is actually a bonus; 4.3" screens feel a lot nicer when using to chat--somehow the AT&T SGSII is more than .2" off in both dimensions (4.96" x 2.60" vs. 5.2" x 2.8" according to Samsung). Still, a fifth of an inch either way isn't a deal-breaker for me either way.
The dual core SGSII processor is obviously the big difference, and I have yet to see anyone post a compelling, non-anecdotal reason to have a second core on a phone. I don't know many people who have felt their Infuse was insufficiently responsive, and no game I've run has had any noticeable lag on the Infuse, though my experience is hardly extensive.
Does anyone know how much RAM the AT&T SGSII has? If it had the full gig that the Euro version has, that'd also be a nice bonus, as I have managed to fill up the sub-half-gig that the Infuse has available.
The last feature I think deserves mention is NFC, which the ATT SGSII does have, reportedly. Not that I really expect to be paying by NFC any time soon, but what are we if not nerds who want more features on our phones?

I don't think i can agree with that. I havent yet used one, but i cam say that having the largest and brightest display on the market is a huge plus for me. Regardless of whether it may seem like a better deal, i feel that the sgs2 is basically a smaller infuse. It looks the same and does all the same things. Really can't count gb as a plus either since we already have it on the infuse and an official version by the time the sgs2 is readily available to most. I can't see any advantage to 1080p either since it will just eat up more of that inferior battery. Just my 2 cents.
Edit: on top of all that, i don't know why u said 2010? you meant 2011? even if that was so i find that hard tp believe also. Considering that feature for feature, the Infuse was the best overall android device you could buy here in the U.S. when it was released. That said, the only real reason the Infuse hasn't out sold the competition is the lack of hype behind it and a very quiet release by Samsung. Quite unlike the sgs2 which is released first in their most local market. It obviously is pointed towards the more general technophile audience. The infuse i feel was directed towards the huge media phone freaks.

I want a fast smartphone, reliable, powerful ?
Budget is unlimited.
Thank you
G2X is a very good phone. But if you're willing to wait a couple of weeks for the Galaxy S 2 to come out you should get that.
Thanks for replying.
The Galaxy S2 will be like.. 4.5" for Tmobile and that's too big for me ;/ !
Like which is better: TMobile G2x, Htc Sensation or MyTOuch 4G Slide ?
I can also consier other phones from tmobile.
I really to buy this tonight !
Thanks

I've read outstanding comments about the MyTouch 4G Slide. The camera is suppose to be the best there is on any phone. And the audio quality is suppose to be superior. But I myself don't like thick phones, which slide out keyboards make.
The Sensation is definitely better than the LG phone and looks and feels better...to me. But the SGS2 would be the best one to get. I thought for a long time that 4.3" is the biggest I would want to go in a phone. But I gave a Samsung Infuse a good try and found my new maximum size increased to 4.5". It was excellent. The SAMOLED+ and Samsung's thin phones are worth it. You would be glad to have an SGS2. The sound quality will be the best there is and the camera will probably rival the MyTouch 4G Slide. The battery life will be better too.
If you need a phone right now I would pick the Sensation. Mytouch 4G Slide if you really want the camera, but like MartyLK I don't like thick phones.
+1 for Samsung Galaxy S 2.
It might not have the CPU of G2x but it has more RAM and so multi-tasking would be pretty smooth.
Since you have an unlim budget and if you are willing for new models to come out, look for these specs.
1GHz+ processor. 1GB RAM. 4G. Preferably a dual core 1GHz and 1GB RAM.
3D phones have the cool factor. However, I personally don't think they are worth it.u
That's about it.
I would also go with Sensation!
Actually, if it worth it, I can wait for the Galaxy S II.
When is it being relased ?
But 4.5" is not too big ?
I would recommend SGSII as well.
Last time I heard, it has a 4.3" display.

It's out of question. The OP wants a good device. Not a cheap or budget device. Non of the Optimus phones(except Optimus 3D, Optimus Black and Optimus 2X... or rather the expensive models in Optimus series.. ) can run Flash.. as they are all ARMv6.
我觉着吧,htc g14蛮不错的~
I have as u can see LG 2x and device is great, my friend have SGS2 And i can tell u that multitasking browsing net loading apps is the same speed. But LG is so mych better in games(cuz of nVidia gpu) . On sgs2 display is much better and battery managment us also better. U should buy sensation only for looks and sensUI. Thats my opinion

I very much enjoy the versatility of the htc sensation 4g with the Android Revolution HD 3.6.11 rom.

[Q] Should I buy the Skyrocket?

I have a Motorola Atrix right now and was looking to buy the Skyrocket. I had the Samsung Captivate and really loved Samsung's Android devices.
Some questions I have about the phone:
-The Galaxy Nexus has a 720p screen, since the Skyrocket only has a WVGA screen, does that mean less icons on the screen?
-We don't have LTE in Seattle yet, but how is the battery life while on HSPA? And how is it on LTE?
-Since the processor that is in the Galaxy S II isn't compatible with LTE, is Qualcomm's dual-core as fast and smooth?
-Is the camera take good pictures, and is the video quality good?
Thanks for those who help!

Okay... Nexus is junk...next
I get 24-28+ hours on my LTE..
Snapdragon is more than capable for anybody's needs.. if all you want to do is do benchmarks, quadrants and play games all day.. Exynos is better. But we are in the real world so....
Camera is awesome.. this phone is awesome.. buy the phone and have fun.

Chubby_Skunk, I remember you from the Atrix forums . LTE is the way to go, impressive when you're under coverage. The battery life is great even on the Vivid. I went for the Vivid, the screen is the same qHD as the Atrix.

I remember you too! haha
I was going to go for the Vivid until I read reviews about it....
So I wanted the Galaxy S II and the Skyrocket seems like i'd be to big with the 4.5" screen and the AT&T GSII seems nice with the 4.3" screen.
Is there much of a noticeable difference between the 4.3" and 4.5"? it's only.2" bigger.
Is not that big of a difference (size wize), but I would go for the Skyrocket, is newer and have LTE. Make sure you read first what users are saying about the screen though, I've heard there are some pretty bad batches out there.

Appartently some people are saying the "screen" is not good...
I don't have any issues, nor do any of the 10 buddies of mine who own the same phone..
I was skeptical about switching from iPhone 4 to the Skyrocket due to its enormous size difference. After using for a day or two, I got used to it and the 4.5 inch screen really made a difference for me. However if you're switching from an OGS2, then it won't be that big of a difference but still good.
Girlfriend has the 4s, and she doesnt need to ask siri which is a better phone. i have had both att gs2's. The skyrocket is faster but the other is more refined. i like them both, but like skyrock speed
hey, my dad actually has the iphone 4 and he says all the time "hey whats that on your phone" because this phone is just so capable. I came a Sony arc and the speed alone should be enough to get this phone

24-28 hours on LTE?
I'm impressed.
May I ask what ROM you are using that achieves this battery life?
I have the Skyrocket and overall I think I made a mistake getting it.
** The skyrocket is a hastily put together phone. The plain SGS II is actually a better built phone. Even the Captivate was a much better built phone.
**The only reason for the Skyrocket hardware is to enable LTE for AT&T. The plain SGS II gives you 4G which should be more than enough, since LTE IS NOT AVAILABLE at most areas.
** The plain SGS II has far superior screen resolution.
** The exynos processor in plain SGS II even at 1.2 GHz is so much better.
** Unless you ABSOLUTELY want LTE, Skyrocket has not shattering advantage.
** The Skyrocket HD of course is a different question altogether.
** AND the HTC One X has the same specs as Skyrocket, with a HD screen and may be something to consider. Check this phone out too. http://www.mobilenapps.com/articles/1769/20120420/htc-one-x-release-date-att-may.htm#
Good luck !

Sorry, I think all ur main points are wrong frankly.
1) Build quality and quality control of the skyrocket has been excellent so far
2) I have access to 4g and LTE everywhere I go in all of Ontario, and let me tell u for what I use my phone for, late makes a WORLd or difference, 4g isnt even in the same league. This us basically just ur opinion
3) better screen resolution? where'd u find this info? link please?
4) find benchmarks showing me that exynos slaps the S3 1.5, please. Cuz I guarantee u won't. Sure if all u do is run benchmarks all day, yeah ifs faster. but in real world use u won't even be able to notice the difference. I'll take a pentaband radio that I can use on any carrier over 5% not even noticeable performance increase.
5) again ur opinion, see second point
6) skyrocket HD is same phone, better screen... so I don't understand this one
7). HTC One X has no SD card slot for expandable storage and lacks a removable battery, HUGE turnoffs for me ans several other users here, plus its HTC, and it may or may not come with a locked boot loader. Our dev took off out of the box, becuz we had no obstacles. Sammy's are definately the best for custom stuff.
