How do you install to NAND via USB and not SDCARD? - Touch Cruise Android Development

Guys im tired of using the sdcard to install android to my polaris as i always erase the andboot folder after everything so as to save space. I know you'd say "what space its a small file" yes but i just wanna know how to flash it comfortably to my NAND thru my PC USB connection like flashing roms with the upgrade utility. Thanks!!!

you are ridiculs but:
download customRUU.exe
copy the nbh file in the customRUU.exe dir
all the other files can't be flashed directly (the androidinstall.tgz must be in andboot folder)

lol thanks master l1q1d for the super response. actually i was dying to flash the android on my polaris immediately after my SD card broke. I had to install it thru usb since i have no sdcard. lll try that now.

i was actually looking for a way to copy the andboot folder to the phone memory after NBH flash, but im not sure that the phone memory has less memory to contain the boot files and the installation thereafter. I lost my sdcard and would wanna make the automation work without it. could this be possible? Thanks again.

No, you can't do it.

That does it. IT wont be. thanks

severely frustrated and in desperate need of help!!

i've been trying to update my tilt's rom and I don't know what im doin wrong. i've tried flashing mbarvian's solace v 1.5 rom and revrom v8 (sorry I can't remember who cooked the rom) and neither is working.
i've followed every step in the sticky for noobs like me. but when I get to step 3, which is flashing hardspl, I get lost. I moved the jumpspl files to my phone and ran jumpspl 1.93, since 1.53 seems to do nothing. it goes into bootloader, I disconnect usb, reconnect it, and try to run kaisercustomruu so I can flash hardspl 3.29. but when I try to run kaisercustomruu it just shuts down my computer. I don't know whts going on. it seems like im the only one running into this problem. i've spent the past 3 days searching the forums for a solution or reason why kaisercustomruu shuts down my comp and I can't find anything.
when I downloaded mbarvians solace rom there was another update utility that was included in the fil so I ran that. it worked, I clicked all necessary boxes, and the update initialized. but it just stays at 0 percent, and eventually gives me error 262 "update utility error" or something like that.
I tried restarting my comp and even hard reset my device. nothing is working.
im currently running the HTC windows 6.1 rom (the one straight off the site) and have hardspl 3.56.
the reason im trying to go to hardspl 3.29 is because mbarvian and the majority of people on his thread that had succes with his rom are running 3.29.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Well, you can't flash custom ROM's till you HardSPL your Tilt/Kaiser.
I noticed you didn't mention anything about disableling USB Connections in ACtive Sync/WMDC. Did you do that?
Also, kaisercustomruu is generic. Try copying the one from the ROM dl into the HardSPL dl folder. Another suggestion is do a search for flashing hardspl from sd card.
Why not use the sticky and then ask in the relevant thread? "The Sticky"

You will definitely get more help in that thread. But you already have hardspl, so read the part about flashing cmonex's 3.29 from your SD card, that looks like that will solve your problems.

I was going to agree with this, but then I read the flashing guide, and it says flashing from the SD card only works if you're upgrading. From the sounds of it, he doesn't have HardSPL on his phone, otherwise the cooked ROMs would flash.
To the OP, I would try another KaiserCustomRUU.exe. Just copy it from one of the custom ROMs you've downloaded and paste it into the folder you have HardSPL in. Be sure to delete the one that came with HardSPL first. If that doesn't work, maybe you could try a different computer? I don't think you need an ActiveSync connection to flash since JumpSPL puts the phone into flash mode. (Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong.) Just download HardSPL, extract, run JumpSPL, plug your phone in, and run KaiserCustomRUU.exe. It should flash!
I do have hardspl installed its v3.56. I just wanna try 3.29 cos mbarvian and the people on his rom thread that had success with his rom have 3.29 installed.
I read the flashing for noobs sticky and i've been following it verbatim. when I went to try and format my SD card to fat32 it wouldn't let me. I used resco explorer and when I tried to format it it said it wasn't unlocked. that's one thing I failed to ask about in my original post: how do I unlock the SD card?
I used 2 other kaisercustomruu's from other roms and they all forced my comp to shut down. I even ran it on my gf's comp and it shut hers down too.
help!

Take your microsd card and place it into the converter (normal sized sd card). There is a switch on the side. Place the switch in the opposite position of "lock"

It sounds like you do not have kaisercustomruu in a folder, which contains .nbh file. Rather you are probably attempting to run it from your desktop???

Ah, you have to use a SD Card reader on a PC to format it, not through the phone.
each time I ran kaisercustomruu it was in a folder with an nbh file. does it have to be by itself with the nbh file? just kaisercustomruu and the rom file?
oh that's all I have to do? just put it in the SD adapter and flip the switch? does it have to be in a computer for it to work?

No.... there is nothing wrong with your SD card.
Do this:
1. Remove your SD card and your SIM Card. Start your device.
2. Connect your Device to your PC Via ActiveSync. Make sure you are fully connected.
3. Unzip and copy the exe file of attached JumpSPL to your device memory.
4. Run Jump/Soft SPL on your device
5. Wait for the bootloader screen to appear and "USB" to show.
6. Right-click activesync icon on the PC tray, go into connection settings and ensure Allow USB Connections is unchecked
7. Unplug your device from the USB port, wait 5 - 20 seconds, plug it back in.
8. Run KaiserCustomRUU.exe of the desired HardSPL and flash HardSPL3.29
To see if you have successfully flashed the 3.29 HardSPL press the camera and power button and press the soft reset once all at the same time, you will see the four color screen and it should display the SPL version.
Whether your SD card is locked or unlocked has no barrier on flashing SPL on your device, since you need to have it out of the device when you perform the SPL install.
Fat32 sometimes would not allow operation of certain files on your PC. thats why sometimes PPC programs or files would not open on your PC and would give you error msgs. Now some folks tried to create a virtual fat32 folder that could in some instances open or run fat32 programs that are created for mobile devices, but in most cases that would crash your PC OS and shuts it down. Same story with netCF files.
So in essence if you were to follow my instructions above, you will get it done and it should not take longer that two minutes to complete the process.
Again.... DO NOT SHORTCUT THE INSTRUCTIONS.
Good luck

question: if I run jumpspl and then use the htc update utility to flash hardspl, would that work? (the htc update utility is the update utility that worked when I tried to flash the rom but it just sat at 0%)

Are you trying to add files to your card by inserting it into your laptop using an adapter?
BTW certain adapters for some reason or another will not allow you to do that after the SD card has been placed and used in a phone.
Can you access the SD card through ActiveSync? If you have installed programs on your SD card and you are trying to delete them from the SD card it would not let you as there is a shared violation in that process. The way to do is that you would need to remove the programs first from your device by using the Remove prompt in your settings page on your phone, then going to your SD card and deleting the program files. If you do it in the reverse order you will run into problems; Remnants of those programs will still reside in your main memory.
The attached is a utility that would help format SD card. DO NOT UNZIP IT. Just create a folder on your PC and save the attached in it, When done, change the file type of the attached file from zip to exe. Then right hand click it and do the extract to the folder you created. Follow the included instructions to format the SD card.

[Q] system.img and Boot.img versus update.zip and recovery

I am trying to root my gtab and have downloaded vegan. When I extracted it on my computer, i got a system.img and boot.img instead of the update.zip and recovery I was expecting. I'm sure I'm just missing something but need some help determining what. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Perhaps I should also mention that I have downloaded and intend to use clockworkmod as well. I understand it makes a difference as to what files need to be loaded on to the internal SDcard. The Vegan rom is an RAR which I have extracted on my desktop. I'm confused as to whether I just need to put the .img files that were extracted on the internal SD card, or put the pre-extracted file on the internal SD Card. I have not tried either, but want to have as much clarification as possible before I begin.

Don't extract the .zip file. You flash that as is. Install clockwork recovery first. If you havent gotten it, get it from here

Once you have clockwork installed you can install .zip files without renaming them. If it is named .rar then you do need to extract the .zip from it but not the .zip file
Thanks for your help. I downloaded "gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip" . The file type is shown as WinRAR ZIP.archive. Is this the rom file that I will move to the internal SD after I flash Clockworkmod?

If the file is a .rar instead of .zip you will need to download something like 7zip to "unrar" it first and then flash the .zip file

Yes, just keep that ZIP file intact, you will flash that from CWM.
Thanks for the help. All went smoothly and definitely worth it. I had some problems with audio after installing the latest flash, but sticking headphones for a few moments seems to have fixed that.

[Q] Can't find zip in recovery mode when trying to install rom

Hi All.
I'm new to this and trying to install my first rom (aiming for cynagenmod 7- it has the language support i need, or so they say)
I rooted my phone and followed a yourtube video titled "How To Install CyanogenMod 7 Nightly on T-Mobile G2x after Nandroid Backup"
When i get to the part where i need to install zip from sd card, i can't find the file. I went back and copied the zip file into a few different folders, and although i can locate the folders, it tells me that the file cannot be found.
How do i get around this? Your help is much appreciated.

How did you download it? Through rom manager or from the phones xda app, browser? Look in folders with xda or rom manager?? Next time just copy and paste it to the root of the sdcard, not in a folder.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Downloaded it on a computer and then copied it to sd card
and you can't find where you put it? did you place it in a certain folder already created... you can plug your phone in to pc then enter recovery mode, go to storage and mounts at the bottom select mount usb then copy the zip to your sdcard in no folders.
When i try to do that t tells me unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory).
From recovery mode there are some folders i can't see when i browse the folders on the computer when the phone is booted up normally - and vice versa. Is this an indicaiton of a problem?
Silly question: do you actually have an SD card inserted in your phone? If so, what did you use to format it?
i do have an sd, and i actually didn't format it. should i format? if so, what is the best way?

Did you try, while in recovery, taking the back off your phone, pop out the sd card, wait 1 second, then pop it back in?
Stupid question, but it's a mistake some beginners make, but did you unzip it by any chance? That could be a reason CWM isn't seeing it. Once you DL the ROM you need to leave it untouched. Then place on SD.
After that in CWM go to choose zip from sd.
And you attained CWM via NVFlash correct?

Maybe you accidentally copied it to internal memory instead of the sdcard. You can check in cwm under internal sdcard I believe is what it is called.
When you connect the phone through USB it mounts both internal and the sdcard.

you may have put it on the "internal sd card" instead of external sd card, however this is not an issue if you flash CWM 5.0.2.0 or later, it has an option to install zip from internal sd and external. i renamed my external sd card to avoid future confusion (otherwise i see two "removable disks" when i plug my phone into my computer)
Check your file names on your SD card. Check what you see listed in Recovery. If you see differing file names, then you're accessing the wrong memory.
I'm going to assume you tried booting with the physical buttons. Try booting with CWM which should give you a blue menu.
i did try to boot both ways and both times i did not find it... for the millionth time i took the sd card out and put it back in and rebooted using cwm, and funny enough, it found the direcotry... and yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, cynagenmod7 is my new rom
thanks for all your help, support and commiseration... really, much appreciated. i do ve a few more issues that i have to research now... again, external sd not found though... will probably solicit more help
again, thanks

Don't unzip the file. When you flash anything via clockwork, it flashes using .zip files.

[root tool] Toshiba Thrive 10.1" ICS

(Now, I know this is not in the right section or even in the device's page, but...)
Forewarning: I am NOT responsible for any damages caused by running this tool. (You ran it, not me.) Also, do NOT use on the Thrive 7 or ANY of the Excites! The Thrive 7 has an entirely different bootloader/partition layout than the 10.
Pio_masaki and I have been working hard for almost a year to get root on the ICS version of the Toshiba Thrive 10.
Last night, I was able to finally sneak past sealime.ko and have it work.
It uses the "root any ICS device" tool, with special modifications specifically for the Thrive 10.
(can't post any links, so it's on the "thrive-hackers" github page.)
Special note: While it is set up for OSX ADB, I have not been able to find any binaries.
Are you saying that we are close to a root method for Thrives running Toshiba ICS?

Saying there is a method to root it now, yes, we got around sealime.ko. This means we can flash the HC bootloader which is unlocked, which allows custom recovery and kernels/ramdisks (boot.img) to be used.
BTW the link is https://github.com/Thrive-Hackers
congrats guys ! very awesome work !
jdsingles deodexed ROM w/ agat63's 1.3 kernel Suped up w/ CB 6.26.13
More specifically, it bypasses sealime to flash the unlocked bootloader. What we did was we MVd /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 to 0p9. It's a pure fluke Pio and I found out that it works. We found out that sealime was explicitly blocking write to 0p6, so he semi-sarcastically said to move it. I ran the mv command, whadda ya know? It worked!
'Course, getting the tool completed wasn't as simple as that...
PS: Could we get this moved to the Toshiba Thrive Development section?
Have instructions been written for the process?
worked for me
I used this tool on Jul 8 and it worked very well. I got it from thriveforums dot org. Thank you pio_masaki and AmEv.
I tried changing the recovery to the latest TWRP using "fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.4.1.0.img" while in bootloader. I was not able to, though as it kept giving me errors.
Does this bootloader not allow flashing a recovery? I noticed the rootme script uses adb commands to push the CWM recovery.
I am now running Dale's latest deodexed rooted ICS rom with the CWM recovery he included.
Other unrelated lessons learned:
If you can't mount your SD card in recovery, try a different card!
And, Dale packages his update.zip inside the downloaded zip file!

I installed the drivers, used the root tool, the restore was successful, but now the tablet is stuck in a boot-loop mode.
The root tool was running, there was a line that said the screen would go blank, which it did, and it stayed there for several hours. When I came back to check on it, the tablet was off, so I turned it on. That's when I found the boot loop. It'll get to the home page, tell me that nova launcher has stopped, then loop back to the moving stars section of the boot screen.
Any ideas on what to do now?
DLeach4512,
if CWM is still alive, so just flash any ROM via CWM (flashing wipes all your data that exist in internal memory, so you need to make backup via CWM if you wish to save your data; and after flashing ROM you can import all data via Titanium Backup)

You know, I feel kinda dumb because I didn't even try that!
Now i've tried it, and I see I can get into CWM.
I put a ROM on an SD card on my PC, then put that SD card into the Thrive and used CWM to install the .zip of the ROM I selected, and it won't install. It starts, then it says Installation aborted, but won't tell me why.
Any ideas where I should start unraveling this mystery?
1. check that your recovery is CWM and not stock recovery
2. check that you put on SD archive that contain folders named system and META-INF, file like boot.img, something other maybe (many ROMs archive contain "archive in archive", so you need to unpack archive from main archive and than put that internal archive on SD); after checking that all right try to flash that archive again
3. try another sdcard (full sized SDHC + formated in FAT32)

also make sure you open the zip and place the update.zip on your card -
From my GSIII - jd's Stock/Rooted/Deodexed 4.3

Excellent!
1) I had to extract "update.zip" from the ROM I had downloaded.
2) I re-formatted the card I was using to FAT32 instead of FAT.
3) I was able to get the install started with no trouble after following your directions.
BIG THANK YOU FOR THAT!
I got a successful install message, and then it booted!
Thanks a million!
Problems after Mount Changes
I changed the mount as described on thriveforums.org to allow apks and data to go to the external sd rather than "shared" internal memory.
I now have the situation with less free memory available on the sd card than on internal. The CWM backups went on the physical card- a 32 G one almost full. Will look for a major mfr 64 Gig.
One or so issues with the revised mounts where the external sd card is now internal. They relate to making backups with dalepl's latest CWM 6.0.1: where to put CWM backups for now and are they being made correctly with the revised mounts?
The backup made prior to the mount change looks normal: a single, dated/numbered folder about 2.6 Gb, 6 files: boot.img, cache.ext4.tar, data.ext4.tar, nandroid.md5, recovery.img and system.ext4.tar. However, the one made after the mount change also has a dated, numbered folder of only 15.8 Mb and 7 files: .android_secure.vfat.dup, boot.img, cache.ext4.dup, data.ext4.dup, nandroid.md5, recovery.img and system.ext4.dup. There is a second folder associated with the later bu called "blobs", which is huge --2.76 Gb, 3292 folders and 6581 files. Is this an expected result and any one think it might be a valid bu?
Also, it went on to the external SD (now "internal") and total storage use is now almost 28 Gb out of 30.2. I now have the situation with less free memory available on the sd card than on internal. The stuff there looks ok, pix movies and music plus CWM bups of 5.5 G and App_Backup_Restore archived apks at 2.8 Gb. So, I copied the cwm backups folder to the real internal memory, now sdcard2. I assume this true internal memory might get wiped during a restore so, this is not a valid storage site for this? And, if I put copies on a spare card, will that really work if my downloaded apps are on the original card, eg does the CWM backup copy the external card apps?
As I note, for some reason this 'blobs' folder won't copy easily to a USB via the Thrive or Win 7 pc. It also won't copy to a Win 7 HD partition where I store my Thrive stuff. (Update: I was able to do a wireless transfer to my pc and then, from there, to a spare SD card.)
Any thoughts? Should I go back and change the mounts to default?
BTW, I find FolderMount has no real use with the changed mount on the Thrive unless someone tells me otherwise. With the Thrive mounting the external card as internal, files go to the physical card.
gberpa,
I don't understand your question - it is very long. But I know that custom recovery (CWM / TWRP) itself remounts sdcard and internal memory before wipe process so it will wipe correct memory (only internal memory). If you need to change the ROM you don't need to worry about mounting paths because after wipe mounting paths will be restored to original.

Also, do NOT use on the Thrive 7 or ANY of the Excites! The Thrive 7 has an entirely different bootloader/partition layout than the 10.

Can you give us information on the Toshiba Thrive 10.1" ICS partition layout and their names, please?
We would like to compare it to ours Toshiba Excite Pro (AT10LE-A, tostab12BA). A Dirty Cow enabled KingoRoot has given us a temporary root.

[Completed] Help Convert TNTpipo.img into and ext sd installable file/zip

Hello, i need a bit of help, ive got my original .img file from TNT.
i had windows when i installed it first time, i have Linux mint 17 now .
i tried with neighbors win 7 machine but i can tget the tablet recoged by any means, i think the usb port is buggered up
nothing works.
any way i can install from external sd card, is there any way to mod the img to install from sd card similar to the Decontaminatv3.1.zip
iv installed tnt software and can mount the system folder have a copy of it converted to ext4(was a real pain)
decontam just gets renamed to install.zip and goes right in, just wish there was a linux based converter that didnt require an enlarged brain to operate
put img file in folder
start app
press button to convert .img to install.zip
copy install.zip into sd card
done and happy!!
any body have any ideas?
IMG is a completely different Packing of Source files. Those typically can not be converted into Zip files as their signature is integrated.
Please post Device details so we can help further.
