Customer Service = JOKE! - G Tablet General

UPDATE: So, I FINALLY got my tablet back today (3/24/11) - after a month of it being away. I'm not going to get in to the fact that I had to call them 3 or 4 more times and talk to 2 supervisors before any real progress was made and my tablet was [pushed to the "front of the line."
No, no, not only was it just left at the door of my apartment (for how long, no-one knows), but when I opened the packaging I discovered that they had torn up 2 of the sides of the Skinomi carbon fiber back that I had stuck on previously AND one of the rubber feet/screw covers was completely missing with a large gouge at the side of the open hole. This whole G-Tablet Warranty process has been a TOTAL disaster. I really hope no-one else here (or the 10,000 new user that just purchased from Woot.com) have to deal with this.
Perhaps the worst example of customer service I have ever experienced.
Well, you guys are going to LOVE this one.
My G-Tbalet had a faulty camera so I organized for it to be repaired through Viewsonic. Sent it away on February 26th.
I have had no response from Viewsonic (no call, email, anything) regarding the repair, so I called them on Friday 11th March.....then Saturday twice......then Monday. Different person each time, all trying to stall me and feed me some BS that they were "looking for it on their computer" or that they were "waiting for updated information on it". Basically they have lost the tablet and have no idea where it is!
They received it on March 1st (as I tracked the delivery) but now they basically have no idea where it is exactly, or how far along on the repair process it is. Yesterday the lady told me that it WAS indeed being repaired (which is progress at least because on Friday and Saturday they had no idea where it was), but had no idea of the time scale or how long it will take to repair it. So I told them I had no option but to take it further. So she said she was going to escalate it to her manager and that she would let me know "as soon as she hears anything" and that the manager would email me with a response too once he had one. That was yesterday. Of course I have had no contact or email today. Go figure.
So I have been without the tablet since the end of February, and I don't see me getting it back before the end of this month. Ridiculous. Hopefully when/if I do get to speak to the manager I can demand a replacement to be sent. What a joke.
Just thought I'd share my experience with the GREAT customer service!

That's pretty scary. I think this is one area that some of these companies really need to work on. Customer service is a huge deal, but some places just don't have the aptitude for providing it with any ounce of quality. Ahh well, I hope you get it back either repaired or a new one, and soon. I'd be smoking mad if I was without mine for even 2 weeks.

Use the Better Business Bureau to lodge complaints, it has worked for me in the past when I am getting no where fast.

Honestly, aside from the customer service reps not being able to find updates, that's an above average timeframe for repairs. A typical repair on warranty can take anywhere from 1 week if you are EXTREMELY lucky to upwards of a month. Anything passed a month and that's when I'd begin the complaints process. The fact that you are escalating things several times after only 1-2 weeks may get it back to you sooner, but I doubt it. Certain processes, such as repair work, are already set in stone at most companies and regardless of how many calls a customer makes they are not willing to change those processes. I wish you the best of luck in your repair process and hope it all ends well. Good luck.

I had posted awhile ago, that I had called them because I had noticed bad block msgs in dmesg, and they gave me an RMA, but I was a little leery about sending it in. It just seemed like they were too willing to give out an RMA, after just a 5 minute telcon. Anyway I never did send it in, and from your story, that was probably a fortunate thing ...
Sorry to hear about your situation, and hope they actually fix it.

~~HTC customer service is the WORST~~

So here is my story
I purchased an HTC touch pro 2 last year, i bought it before it hit the US markets so i paid a load of money for it. No problem, i love the phones, and i Paid like $700 for the Touch HD when it dropped in England but the lack of the keyboard ended with me selling it.
So i get this phone from a guy that says its direct from HTC its in an exclusive white box blah blah blah right.
Get the phone and all is well, new roms are dropping and i have WM 6.1 on my phone (weak!) so being that i have a MAC computer i cannot do anything to update the phone with out buying a load of software and putting XP on my computer (nope!).
So i go to the HTC website and the update is there and it asks for the serial number, well i put it in and it wont recognize it, hmmm. So long story intro short, i mail it to HTC for an upgrade and maybe check out the loose hinge on the tilting screen.
They receive my phone, and my phone sits on the shelf at the warehouse for 5 DAYS!!!
I call and every time i get the same story, "well mr miller we will escalate this so that it gets taken care of right away sir." I called 3 times and it was never touched. Finally on the 3rd time they tell me, well this is a sample phone, one we gave to employees before it hit the market, so there is no warranty, and we cannot upgrade it, and where did YOU get this phone. Ummm i paid for it, out in the open on Ebay, not out of the trunk of some guys car outside the pool hall.
Anyway they wont fix it, i have no warranty and thats that, ok fine whatever give my phone back, this was on Monday (April 5th) of this week. So the phone is to be sent back to me per HTC on Monday.
Call on Tuesday to get the tracking number so i can see when it will arrive because i am out a lot, and they say it is still in the warehouse.
I call back on Wednesday to get the tracking number so that i can see when it will arrive because i am out a lot, and they say it is STILL in the warehouse.
I call back on Thursday to get the tracking number so i can see when it will arrive...... etc etc.
The rep then tells me there are no notes in the system and it has not even been started for ship out.
But she is going to escalate it so that it gets sent out ASAP Mr. Miller.
Lord not this escalate crap again.
OK BYE!
I call today Friday to get the tracking number, and its the supervisor i spoke with days ago that knows AAAAALL about my case.
Well Mr. Miller the phone is still sitting on the shelf in our warehouse/
WTF for a week+?!?!
It had been determined last WEEK that they were not going to repair it and were going to send it back.
So my phone has been held hostage by HTC and they wont send it back, no one will do anything to get me over to someone in the warehouse, they act as if its Area 57 or something and they dont have phones there.
So needless to say am very VERY disappointed in the treatment I have received and it is very likely that I will not purchase another HTC phone again after this nightmare.
Shame because i enjoy the phones, but i refuse to give my money to support a company that treats its clients in such a manner.
FYI
Sounds more like a local warehouse/repairshop type of service, not HTC. Imo.

Nope, it was HTC America. I had to send it to them directly.
Weird. If this was in Norway i would just say "Hmmm.. I got this number to this newspaper" and they would give me a new free phone. Their so scared of bad PR here.
If you think HTC CS is the worst, then you haven't dealt with E-ten's..
Their RMA is actually a nightmare, they can loose a device for months, and return it "repaired" what actually means: dirty and parts still loose..
But nevertheless, good luck, hopefully the device will find it's way back to you.

When I got newton rings on my first Blackstone, I sent it off to HTC, or rather I dropped it off to them as I live in the same town.
I waited the week they said it would take, heard nothing, gave them an extra day and called, they said they'd call me back.
I called them after hearing nothing for a couple more days (I was busy at work so didn't have time to call every day).
Was informed they are waiting on my agreement to pay them a bucket load of cash to fix a warranty issue that they should fix for free.
So I had to go to a website to say that I wanted my phone back, and phone them to say I would be coming in to collect it so would not pay for postage.
Had I not known about the website and just waited, they would have disposed of my phone.
Unfortunately the customer support desk and the repair centre do not speak to each other, so when I arranged with CS that I'd be in the next Friday to pick up my phone at 1pm, they said it would be there, when in actual fact the repair centre had no idea I was coming so I had to wait around for them to find my phone and return it.
I then handed it to carphone warehouse who I'd bought it from to repair, they passed it to HTC for a warranty repair, HTC sent it back after a couple of weeks saying "No missing pixels found" even though it was sent to them to have the screen repaired due to newton rings and no mention of pixels.
Carphonewarehouse appologised and said they would send it off again, but by then I was so fed up about not having the phone for over a month, and expected HTC to refuse to repair it for CPW that I took CPW up on their offer to claim on insurance. £28 and a day later I had a brand new Blackstone.
Great products, crappy service.
AGREED, "great products, crappy service." I too had the Blackstone before i got my tp2

Filed Formal Complaint With AG In Washinton State

All,
I would encourage you to join me in filing a formal complaint with the Attorney Generals Office within Washington State.
I have made serveral attempts to get T-Mobile to resolve the situation I am having with my G2X. I have had 3 different G2X phones which all reboot on their own.
The only solution T-Mobile can provide me is to suffer and wait for the software update or pay full price for another phone.
I don't find either solution to be satisfactory. I have escalated the issue to a Manager which didn't do any good. I also tried emailing the T-Mobile Executive Customer Service Team (of course no reply).
I filed a formal complaint this morning with the AG. I think we should all be intitled to trade the phone in for another model or be allowed to cancel our contracts.
I will let you know what comes out of this.
Lance
Tmo really said tough cookies or buy another phone? I'm having a hard time believing that. They either will offer you a replacement G2x (which you've obviously done) or after 3-4 swaps, offer you a different phone if you ask for it.
I can't picture them telling you to fork over another 500 for another phone.
Thank you. It's irresponsible to release a phone without any QC, then take months testing an update to fix the problems that should have been fixed before launch. A class action law suit may be in order if Tmo doesn't release the mythical update that will fix everything. In all honestly we have a case with the twitter feeds of tmo and lg promising an update to fix the issue show that they were knowledgeable that the phone they were shipping was defective at launch. Not to mention the ocean of forums and news articles reporting the same problem.

GideonX, that's not true in my case. I tried my damnest to get something else after four phones. T Mo is happy to send me another G2X as the last two came, no box, battery, cover ....nothing, just a phone. I refuse to take a fifth. I was not offered anything else except another G2X, no matter how many people I talked to.
I am going to pay the contract price for the Sensation.
Tell me what I need to do to sign on the complaint. I may start one in Texas too. My problem is, I'm on my forth and they won't offer me a Sensation without me paying for it? How many bad ones do I get before it's on them? I've jumped through hoops here.
And now my daughters much vaunted fault free G2X is now getting hinky as well. Just over a month old.
And I sent an email to the execs (with addresses from consumerist.com) at T Mobile too....not one single reply. No one will answer because they are swamped with complaints I'm thinking.
yea dude tmobile and lg need to get there **** on the ball......fast!!!
Really? Wow....I'm sure the a.g. doesnt have anything important to do besides this. This is ****ing ridiculous

You're right, Let's just have T Mobile and LG take care of the 2 out 3 bad ones. Oh yeah.
Same thing happened to me. I filed a complaint with the BB and the AG. Received a call from a higher up at Tmo 3 days later who instructed me to return my two G2X's for a full refund and removal of the 2 year extension to my contract. That was after 7 calls to them. Finally got to the highest level of tech support who told me I was too smart for them and that they knew they couldnt argue with my logic about continually replacing the device even though they were knowingly sending me another defective unit. Phones are shipping back today.
The replacement phone is the SGS 4g, which is a downgrade IMO. I just received my fifth phone, I know it's a refurbish because I contacted a rep last Thurs. and the phone was sent on Friday (new phones are on back order). I would have been within my 14 day exchange period, but when phone #3 had the heat up and shut down issue T-Mobile told me I didn't not need to exchange the phone, just the battery. Exchanged battery and it still died. Phone #4 had really, really bad screen bleed. The phone they just delivered, phone #5, has wi-fi issues and screen bleed. About to call and speak with a rep and demand either they send me a new G2X (new box, new battery, etc) or give me my money back as I was duped into letting my 14 day exchange period lapse.
I have been with T-Mobile for almost 10 years and have never complained. T-Mobile really screwed the pooch here on QC.
I have never had a problem getting what I wanted by calling 611. That's really unfortunate that they aren't helping you out but maybe you're asking the wrong questions. Also, I get the most help by staying calm and collected. Hope things get better for you.

That sucks. They didn't offer any other options? Because for me, a big part of the equasion is how well T Mobile has treated me overall. So are you going to stay with T Mobile? How did you leave it with them? You canceled?
Even though they are more expensive I've liked how they've treated me on an individual basis, person to person. I get live people easily who are overall empathetic and knowledgable. Some may argue that. I've pissed a few off the reps off, and they still remain civil and respectful.
I think it's too bad. This is actually a huge problem for them. They have to be careful how much they do for people don't they? It could get very expensive.
Just a few more comments as I have read the replies:
1. I too was squeezed out of my remorse period by going through the phone exchange process. As everybody knows, it takes time to get a replacement, try it, send it back, get a replacement, etc....
2. Truly, the only options T-Mobile gave me after having three phones with the same issue 1. get another G2X 2. buy another model, or 3. wait for the software. All three options were not satisfactory to me as nobody can tell me when the software will happen (summer is all I get).
3. I am going to stay with T-Mobile and wait to see how the AG complaint works out. Its a big company against me.
4. Somebody made the comment about only 1 or 2 people having the issue and asked why we didn't have T-Mobile just deal with it rather than escalate. The fact is, many of these phones have problems. T-Mobile has been sending internal memos to their employees giving talking points, etc. about phone calls which come in regarding.
Thanks,
Lance
It is unfortunate that your phones are defective.
My phone has being pretty solid and I'm very happy with my purchase.

I will probably wait out the SGS II on Verizon and jump ship. I have been pretty impressed with T-mo's support in general. However when I talk to a retention rep and they tell me that my battery life and freezing/locking up are part of the Android OS since the G1, thats where I draw the line. I then spoke with the their supervisor who told me that they have been using android for 5 (???) years and this is just what I should expect from Android. I should be clearing my Phone logs and txt messages daily to ensure proper functionality of the phone.
I was offered continual replacements until the problem fixed itself. When speaking with the top teir they told me that LG has to agree to what phone you receive if you are getting a comparable phone. Usually it is never a like trade. It was at that point she recommended I check out some of the online communities to see if they had a solution. She couldnt "officially" recommend it but said there might be a solution on one of them. I told her I was an active member of xda and that I already ripped the phone apart to no successful end.
Well, The phones do have issues for sure. My G2X is on the lighter side of the issue pool with only the occasional reboot and shut down that requires a battery pull. Oh and I can't forget the damn Data connection bouncing between 4G and nill like a superball on meth any time I try to actually use my Unlimited-Limited Data plan. (2GB with speed capped is not unlimited but I knew this when I paid for the service.)
I don't know what the AG can or really will do about something like this. A private attorney could possible make a case for a defective unit that was intentionally sold knowing it was defective. But proving someone KNEW something is kinda difficult. It would be fairly fruitless unless T-mo made a blanket statement and refused to support us anymore at all. The contracts are very well worded to specifically make moves like this a non-issue for T-mo.
I'm on hold trying to get a replacement battery to see if that helps, I know it wont but a second battery would be nice anyway. I love my G2X, and honestly I'd do it over again knowing what I know now because Ive had countless hours of enjoyment playing games on it, and just using it.
***Edit: And just like that they are shipping me a replacement Battery. I'm finding it hard to be upset with the T-mo support people. ***
OP, I know someone in the AG's office in Olympia. I sent them a one-pager of my experiences to add to yours. They actually have a case open against T-Mobile for unfair business practices having to do with terms disclosure so the handling of the G2X issues can easily be added to that. And you don't still have to have the phone in order to get involved. If the AG's findings are against T-Mobile there's a shot at remedy and/or financial compensation for both current and former Washington owners. And if Washington sites T-Mobile, others in other States can forward the findings to their AG which makes it easier to get the case picked up.

i dont have a hard time believing that...they said the same crap to me when i went thru 6 refurbished G2 phones in a little over a month, 4 of them in about one weeks time because they were defects out of the box. they offered me various phones which none were acceptable to me, and then they decided to tell me that i can pay full retail, or contact HTC for repairs, which i thought was dumb because HTC fixed the refurbs so why would i go thru more work for the same results?
honestly, these phone makers are so worried about production they dont give a **** about quality and performance, because they know some sucker will pay full retail for the next supposed better model.

yea thats bull****! i had a directv rep tell me it can take up to 8 MINUTES, yes minutes for an hd channel to tune in when i complained about how slow my box was. i was told in a store that the G2x requires more charging when i went to swap my battery out, i said maybe so, but in reality my G2 under 4 times the usage got me a whole days use, the G2x battery got me half a day under less use, so that makes no sense at all. i can see charging it half way thru the day with the same use as my G2.....they really think most customers are that stupid and will listen to anything their big corporate brother tells them. for the time i used android, erasing stuff never made my phone work better except on my G1 where i limited my SMS to 25 per thread, as my messaging app was always slow unless i deleted them. these reps will tell you anything just to get your ass off the phone
i remember when i was a sales rep the crap they wanted us to tell people on why a phone was laggy, or slow, etc. remember that pile of crap, the moto Q? instead of dealing with the problems they had and the complaints, i would just tell people that they were piles of crap and dont bother....instead they wanted us to say that an extended battery will resolve the lack of battery life...so someone that wants a nice thin phone cant have a nice thin phone with that battery!!! so lets move on to another device. oh, the trackwheel/pad sucks? they would tell us to tell people windows will constantly update the device to work better. year right.... well how about blackberry, its a lot smoother...thats my answer!!

Can I Demand a Refund? - Terrible RMA experience! - Updated

Ok so, I RMA'd my Transformer on the 11th July, and it has just returned.
Reason for RMA was an area of touchscreen in a strip that didn't respond to touch input.
I can't post links, but it was a line about level with speakers, an inch in height running all the way across horizontally.
It just returned from the Czech Republic this morning, and has the same damaged area AND another strip where it doesn't work! The screen appears to be better fitted into the device than before so it seems they have done something. It just seems they did it wrong/replaced with another faulty part.
I can't post link to picture, but its the same as before + another non-responsive strip that runs horizontally 1cm above the original, and ends just before it reaches the right hand side.
Can I get Asus to give me a refund/exchange? I really don't want to have to wait another month for them to just damage it further.
I love the transformer, it's a great bit of kit - perfect for my needs, but being made worse by "repair", and horribly slow RMAs is just too much for me...
Quick edit: Screen definitely completely replaced - absolutely no light bleed at all - would be perfect if not for broken touch response....

ASUS got very good repair center in Israel. Since in Israel ASUS's repair and RMA center powered by IBM.
You can try contact the 24x7 IBM powered ASUS lab in Israel:
[email protected]
In Israel, ASUS (Powered by IBM) RMA service is MAX 10 days. Usually one week.
They may be able to give you an good RMA service and make you an happy owner of TF
You should explain them you are unhappy with Czech RMA center and you want send them the device for second RMA in Israel.
My previous experience with Asus service center has not been good either. It was for a netboook, sent in because of a fired logic board. They replaced the logic board, did a terriable job opening up the net book (cracked the clips so it wouldnt sealed anymore).
When I got it back, the netbook booted up. However, the Ethernet port did not work. They should have replaced the second board on the netbook as well. This showed that they QC is sub-standard. They don't thoroughly test an RMA repaired product before shipping it back to customer.
To answer your question, no, you cannot ask for a refund. However, you should call in and ask to speak to a manager. Explain to them you cannot accept additional down time. Ask them to ship you a replcement unit, or at least give you some sort of expressed shipping and repair.
Well that is the thing, they made me wait nearly a month before they started the repair, once started it was v.fast.
It is also put back together much better than it was when I first got it - v.little lightbleed, generally feels sturdier.
But, the fact they replaced the screen and it has nearly the exact same problem (but worse) suggests either: Serious manufacturing problem with their screens or some weird underlying problem with my transformer.
So only sensible thing will be for them to replace - changing out the screen+i/o board (confirmed this is what they did) the first time, and I can only assume again will be very expensive for them - not to mention shipping to Czech Republic and back, twice.
I called them up and they said management would call me back - but before my first RMA they said that several times, and never did.
In the end the main problem is... Why on earth didn't they check it first? Repairing something, changing parts etc. then shipping it back with the same problem, but multiplied, is really terrible customer service.

I had the exact same problem as you described. The service center is in Grapevine, TX USA, and they fixed that...but now my screen has light bleed just right of center....!

I ended up sending in an escalated support and it got "forwarded to management". They quickly sent some postage paid express post to my email and arranged a pickup for Monday... Hope they fix it this time, last time they just made it worse. You can send an escalated support email I followed their facebook support page.
Good luck, to us all

Well the thing is in Europe they pay for postage etc. anyways - I don't think anyone would want to pay for shipping to the opposite side of Europe!
I have been 'referred' to higher management - you can't contact them, they contact you. But then before my first RMA whenever I was told I would be called back Asus never did, so I'm not holding my breath on that.
In any case I've written a formal letter of complaint and will be sending that off today.
It's sad because my sister was going to buy a transformer but has gone the evil route of ipad2... Makes me sad as apart from all these problems the transformer is a fantastic piece of kit, but I just can't recommend Asus at all now. Shoddy repairs and quality control --> lost customers.
Well, sending it back again, they say it'll be prioritised because it's a repair of their shoddy repair...
I spoke to a senior repair person at the retailer and they thought Asus were being pretty terrible, and will start kicking up a fuss if Asus takes longer than they think is reasonable. Reasonable according to the retailer is 10 working days from receipt of the transformer, so we'll see.
Ok so, the asus guy said I couldn't get a replacement etc. and gave me the number for consumer direct so I could confirm this.
So I called, and it turns out they are legally obliged to offer a full refund or replacement because they had the opportunity to repair, didn't, and also because they took over 31 days from giving RMA number to item arriving back to me.
I was also advised to give them a short deadline to comply with this or I should contact the county courts to start legal proceedings.
Nice. Well done asus.
OH MY GOD. I think this may be the first time government legislation has done anything good for anyone. Know any lawyers? You should make sure you get one to draft an official letter quoting the specific law that states they must give you a replacement (I'm guessing you'll be taking that refund and buying something else though) otherwise they will probably just keep dicking you around. The problems generally aren't the fault of the company or the companies policy, but the fault lower level lazy staff who are just ignorant retards. Oh well, Good luck.

Well it's sad because the transformer is awesome and I'd love to have a working one... but with this customer service... They have already lost a few customers because of it..
Also it's silly they tried to deceive me about the law... It's the sale of goods act and ALL retailers and consumer companies will know about it - it's the main consumer law not some obscure bylaw.
Actually I do know lawyers and they thought it was complete rubbish and that any judge would find in my favour almost immediately. However it shouldn't come to that.
The retailer knows the law, thinks Asus is being ridiculous and terribad (from the info I've given them) and will be confirming what I told them was true, and replacing for me. In the end it is ultimately the retailer's responsibility... Luckily they know their stuff, will actually talk to me on the phone (the Asus escalation support guy won't call me only send useless copy paste emails).
Either way Asus are awful and I'd definitely get refund+something else... If only there was something with the functionality of the transformer around at the moment.
Oh fantastic it has come back with a repaired screen! So nice and responsive and no significant lightbleed!
Shame the bezel (although replaced) is not attached properly (I can see through the mini-hdmi and headphone ports from the back) and has a very obvious, annoyingly placed dent in it (although small-ish).
Well done Asus, 2 RMAs and still not properly completed.
Really sick of Asus' shoddy RMA service... Reported broken on 15th July - now 25th August and it still has problems.
RMA again
Strange. My RMA experience was flawless. Reported audio jack broken on Thursday, Monday DHL picked it up, Thursday they returned it with a replaced jack. Took a week, perfect service.
I've already got three RMAs and up for my fourth The Dutch support is excellent however the Czech repair facility is the worst.
17 May they picked up my Transformer for the first time because of light bleed, dead pixel, not flush screen and not balanced speakers. After one week I got it back, nothing was fixed and it returned with a scratch on the bezel. Furthermore, before it was a TW sku afterward I got it back with WW sku (still same device, same serial etc.). This probably messed up my FOTA which I cannot find/receive until this day. I have to install all updates manually.
Around 1st of June they picked it up for a second RMA. After three weeks (waiting for spare parts) I got it back. Bezel was replaced and screen also. However, speakers still not fixed and the new screen got the same level or even a bit more light bleed. FOTA problem still there too. I did not RMAed it immediately because I wanted to take it on a holiday of three weeks.
1st of August, third RMA. After again waiting two weeks for spare parts it was returned 2,5 weeks later. Screen is perfect however a bit more sunken into the frame. Speakers and FOTA still not fixed. Furthermore, the tablet has now more creaking than ever, probably because bad reassembly.
So now I'm up for my fourth RMA to get those issues fixed. I already asked for a replacement unit which they say they cant give (they advised me to return it to the store in Taiwan where a bought it, if I want a new one which will cost me loads of shipping and custom taxes ). I already asked if they can send it to another repair facility. Negative they can't because the Czech facility is the only one (according to them) in Europe for the Transformer. The only thing they want to do, is to give me a fourth RMA. The rep also forwarded the messed up SKU problem to Taiwan HQ because he didn't know what to do about it.
So I'm doubting if I should send it again for RMA to probably be again not entirely fixed and lose it for another 3 weeks. Really Asus, before I thought Asus was good for its customers. But it really makes me think twice next time if I'll buy Asus or not because of this ****ty repair service.
What should I do?

Well, if you had bought it in the EU the retailer HAS to give you a refund after 3 repairs.
Because you bought it in TW you probably aren't covered by EU/local laws so I have no idea.
You could try taking them to court but you're meant to do that to the retailer not manufacturer as the contract of sale was with them not those who supplied the goods.
Ok so update:
The device has finally been written off! Still haven't got a new one though... But apparently it's being arranged (by retailer of course).
I've been through pre-exams --> uni summer holidays --> starting new semester on Monday with no transformer!
Nearly 2 months for them to just accept they ruined it with failed repairs.
...And I was just preparing documents to take the retailer to county court
Either way... Asus: Never again.

buying used g4 are any models safe from the bootloop issue?

Ok so I have currently a g3 that is pretty bad with signals so looking to upgrade...I don't want to spend a lot for the g5 until it drops in price in a year or so...so I was thinking of buying a used g4...I'm leary about the bootloop issues I've been seeing a large amount of people getting and since ill be buying a used phone idk if that'll factor with warranty...anyways I found one I want to buy and I asked the guy what the first few numbers were in the serial number and he said it was 589...that seems a bit high but I know most of the affected units were between 505-509...so do you guys think ill be safe with this phone? I really don't want to spend a lot of money on a potential paper weight...thanks in advance...
Not sure how to read the numbers
My phone has been in the process of dying for the last month, despite my attempts to eliminate an app here and an app there. Saturday it just finally booted endlessly, and won't go any place beyond that.
I bought the phone at Best Buy on 9-3-15, so I guess it's one of the early production models, but I'm not sure of the numbering system. The box has a UPC code with a 6 at the left edge of the code, followed by 52810, then a small gap and the numbers 51648, and finally an 8 at the right edge of the bar code. I can't figure out whether my phone is a "652" or a "528." Maybe somebody can help out with this question.
Thanks, Enzo
Well, since I posted on May 14, the LG G4 quit on me, and nothing but endless boots and more and more heat.
I *****ed to LG, providing the IMEI and the purchase date, etc., and they gave me an RMA. I shipped the phone via FedEx, as directed by LG, at a cost of approximately $20, to the repair facility in Ft. Worth, Texas.
The phone arrived at the repair facility two days ago, Monday morning, and I just got an email indicating that it was shipped back to me today.
No indication of whether it was repaired, or rejected because I regularly dropped it in the toilet and/or spilled coffee all over it, but maybe I'll find out in the next few days. (Actually, I treated the phone very gently, and even used a very grippy silicone cover to ensure I never dropped the thing.)
Since I feared LG would probably need weeks/months/years to get it turned around, I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Alpha from B&H Camera ($250) and a wireless charging device, and a glass screen protector. So at least if the dreaded boot loop syndrome recurs on the LG, maybe something will still be available to permit me to address the world via telephone from my hermit's cave. Enzo.
Email Today From LG--My Phone Headed For Long Beach
I received an email this morning indicating that my phone will be delivered sometime Saturday, May 28.
The email said "Defect: Power--No power with cable"
"Repair Results: Swap board (Main/RF) Others"
Not sure what all this means, but I guess it means they replaced the motherboard, and I'm not sure what else they may have done or not done.
I'll post further on the repairs and etc. next week after I get the phone up & running.
I am quite pleasantly surprised how fast the phone was handled by LG, inasmuch as it arrived in Ft. Worth on Monday, and they tossed it back to FedEx yesterday. Enzo.

Essential customer service and should you buy an additional warranty?

Hi guys,
I am planning to buy the Essential phone. However due to some worrying issues read about everywhere I need to ask the question.
Is the Essential customer service any good. Will they respond fast, accept to return the phone due to factory defects or software issues if any? Or should I buy it from Best Buy and get a protection plan for it?
Thanks in advance for any replies
Have a nice day.
I personally don't buy protection plans, I think it's kind of fun to shop for something else if your phone malfunctions or gets stolen, neither which have ever happened. I did have a software issue with the camera. I just created a ticket online and had a guy try to email me a couple of times, I emailed him back a couple of times, and then he asked for a time when he could call me live.

I never had a protection plan, but in this case I've heard some unpleasant stories about the Essential customer service. i try not to believe 100% to these kinds of things but got to take this in consideration.
I buy Square Trade. Mostly because I sell my phone's frequently and the person getting the phone gets a warranty and I don't worry about unsatisfied buyers. That being said, Square Trade is cheap insurance.
I think the phone is a piece of ****, but, having said that, I'm in the middle of the replacement process which takes about two weeks, and they already ****ed that up by sending automated emails out of order that were (they said) supposed to go to someone else or something . so I didn't get a shipping label I was supposedly given. But they're nice about it at least and their email replies are quick, though strikingly unprofessional...

Got the phone. It is in a 14 days trial for now. except for one freeze at the very beginning while updating nothing else is wrong.
I think the freezing was because of the Nova Launcher. Removed it and put the Microsoft Launcher. It now runs 4 days without a hitch and it is a beast of a phone. Will see at the end of this week...
