I *think* forum.sdx-developers DOT com/epic-development/clockworkmod-recovery-for-the-epic-4g!-build-20!-beta/ (sorry, I'm not allowed to post hotlinks yet) is the post he was referring to.
Most likely that's the "standard" android recovery mode. If you were using ROM Manager to reboot into recovery, then try powering off and using the three-finger reboot into recovery instead (volume down, camera, and power). That usually works for me and reboots into ClockworkMod recovery instead, where everything works fine.

Thanks to all who replied. I got it working. This is actually not my phone. it belongs to a friend. I own the Fascinate and find it a little easier to mod. I am however happy I am having the opportunity to brick this phone because I am learning a lot. I am still used to my Motorola Droid 1 Being completely open and easy to mod. I have only been working with these Samsungs for a couple of days.
Edit:Yes I did mean to say brick as I have bricked and recovered three times now. I dont understand the people who don't enjoy doing this sort of thing. I have been having a blast with Android since my first introduction with it on the G1. Now can someone help me with issue #2? I have installed the OTA update and then Rooted with the one click v2.2.6 then reinstalled clockwork recovery. Everything is working great except...The market will not download. It runs and searches just fine but seems to be getting stuck on the starting download. I have been unable to download any apps.
I am stuck in ClockWork recovery mode
Can some one help me on this? I boot my epic to ClockWork recovery but now I am not able to get out of it. Every time I try to select anything and hit HOME button, the screen goes off and doing nothing and if I hit HOME button again, it goes back to Clockwork recovery mode. I even took out battery and put back in and try to reboot it, it still goes back to recovery mode. Am I missing something? Please help.
Thanks,
Hien Khieu.

I also noticed that the return or enter key on the keyboard also selects I also thought this was the only way lol! boy was I wrong thanks!
I tried the Vol down + Power button, but the only option I get next for 5 sec is to press Vol Up to get recovery mode. Then it shows the android bot with gears, before getting replaced by bot with exclamation mark.
I did not see option to load recovery rom from sd card as explained by Android HD rom for the Asus Transformer.
Anyone has some advice?
sounds like you dont have a custom recovery loaded. are you rooted, ddid you install busy box, su, and a custom recovery?
Nothing installed. Not rooted. Just got back from Asus after repair: new camera, motherboard and 3.2 installed.

That's it, what you saw is considered the stock recovery if you want too call it that.
You'll need to root and have cwm recovery before you can install custom ROM
Thank you. Off to find the root method.

Yet again a question has been asked when the info is plastered all over the forum.

I did. A search is only as good as the question you ask.
Closing thread. This has been searched for so many times it's got to be wearing out the hamsters who run the XDA servers - WAIT! It isn't being searched. Hmmmm
Searching for "recovery mode" in only the Q&A section returned 62 threads dealing with the same thing - and that was just a search on the thread titles......
Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a rooted LG 2x. I installed Clockworkmod from the market and installed it.
Following some guides - to boot into recover(I wanted to backup my system) I pushed Vol Down + Power, and it didnt boot into recovery.. INSTEAD.. it seems to have booted as if its factory new..!? WTF.
I checked the internal/ext SD card and the memory usage is the same.
What do I do??? I just want my old stuff back
To add to it,
I can see the folders/data in the folders through a file explorer, but for some reason it doesnt have the apps and settings?! Anyone help please?? Not sure what to do.
EDIT - Im missing all my messages as well from the inbox.. All I see are the OLD ones from the simcard..
Hopefully you guru's can help.. cos im going nuts!!!
You say you installed Clockworkmod from market and just rooted the device... You seem to have missed to install recovery and what you installed is the ROM manager and not the ROM itself, hence pressing the recovery button combo, resets the device...

my phone was already rooted.. super1click, ages ago.
I just downloaded clockwork through google market on my phone.
I read that pushing the vol down + power brings up a menu, where you can CHOOSE to have your handset wiped etc, but i didnt get it. I'm in New zealand.
Anyway, I have lost all my messages.. Im just going to flash it with CM7. Im using clockworkmod to download 7.1.0RC1 right now. I have backed up my data(or whats left of it through clockworkmod.
I will give it a go soon I guess.
So i installed cm7, and im getting the boot loop thing.
Trying to work that out. Tips?
Got CWM to recover. back to square one I guess.
I have read so many guides on how to install CM7 that im so confused now.
Can I use CWM to install CM7??

This procedure is the simpliest way to get CWM on your phone. And by the way you get Voodoo Lagfix installed so it's cool.
I assume you have Samsung USB drivers installed but If you don't you just have to get Kies installed on your computer.
To make this short and sweet, you gonna need those files :
ODIN
http://d-h.st/gU0
Entropy's Daily driver kernel with Red CWM
http://d-h.st/TCp
Once you get those files, extract them and run the ODIN executable file in Administrator mode. You have to put your phone in download mode now. Have your phone completely shutdown, hold the vol + button and plug your USB cord in your computer. Normally, your phone will ask you to continue to download mode and you'll see a yellow box appear in odin. It will shows like this "COMxx" (x's are for the com number ). Then you just have to click on the PDA box in ODIN and choose the file you get from Entropy. Click on start and let the magic begins. Your phone will reboot after the process. It will stick on Samsung logo and you will hear the female robot voice tellilng you that voodoo lagfix and RED CWM is flashed on your phone. Once done it will reboot again and that's it you're done.
To get in CWM the procedure is simple, phone completely shutdown, hold the vol + and vol - buttons and press your power button. (hold the volume buttons once he's started) you will get in CWM in no time
I believe you can install it by rom manager

Yes, you will need a Kernel with Red CWM.
This can be achieved using The Heimdall One Click package with Entropy's DD Kernel. Post courtesy of qkster.

Kernel info starts at post 2 but definitely read post one as well.
OR
Read Zen Arcade's post about flashing one of his kernels with the SGS Kernel Flasher. This info is in post 1.

hi, if you still have this phone, flash this (link below) with odin 1.70, it is stock deodexed android gingerbread with root and CWM. after it flashes, let it boot and install some features, if phone starts speaking some things, don't worry, let it do it's thing and after it fully starts up, you should be running android gingerbread and cwm should be installed, so you can flash other roms.

Hi everybody. I have a Optimus L9 which i had rooted with the help of this website thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439667. I was having a fine time with it and decided to install Chainfire3d (Yes I know it said not compatible with the version of phone I had i just hadn't seen it) I proceeded to install the thing it prompted me to install (Yes, I know I sound like a noob because I know nothing about this) When rebooting it got stuck at the LG booting screen. I';d prefer not to factory reset it and I'd like to keep my apps and what not. I also downloaded (onto my computer) this Android SDK manager thing from here http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html. Please let me know what I can do. P.S Im a major noob when it comes to this so please use very basic terms or define what your talking about when you explain something. Thanks so much guys I hope we can fix this!
