My fiancee has an iPhone 4, and the other day sent me a video by email.
The file came over as a .mov file - which I couldn't play.
I had a search, and I read that RockPlayer played .mov files on Android, so I downloaded the demo. It gave me an error when trying to play.
I thought it was maybe because the video had been edited in the iPhones iMovie - so I had her send me another one that wasn't edited.
It produced the same problem.
Has anyone successfully managed to play a .mov file from an iPhone 4 - and what program did they use?
I'm trying to play them on an HTC Desire HD if that makes a difference?
rockplayer 1.6.1 works
Hey there,
I've used Rockplayer 1.6.1 - the full version, and it plays a 2MB clip from an iPhone4 user's email. My issue is that I'd love to permanently associate rockplayer with the filetype in Root Explorer.
I also find that 'opening' the file directly from the mail client is a no-go. I only got it to work after saving, then using RPlayer to navigate to the file.
good luck!
edit: and I just noticed - I have the same phone, Telus edition in Canada, unlocked, rooted on RCmixHD ROM 6.1.0.1
Same problem with iPhone messages
I downloaded rockplayer (lite) and meridian, neither play .mov from an email attachment. I also don't see a way to save the video attachment locally. How are you able to do this?
Using a new Nexus S.
Thanks
Shannon
download mov
OK. I downloaded an app called "Download All Files" from the Market. Now I can click an attachment, choose download, and it gets saved to my downloads. Then, I use Rockplayer lite to browse to Downloads, and play the file. Note: I had to choose software decoding in rockplayer.
Hope this info is useful.
I was able to play mov files from iphone 4 in my experia arc using free app mobo player
Try Real Player for android.

I can confirm MX Player works flawlessly for this purpose. None of the rest of players suggested in this thread worked, however.

Hi,
Does someone know if it is possible to stream videos over SMB to/from Captivate?
Is there some app for it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I'm using Astro File Manager w/ Astro File Manager - SMB Module to access my Windows machine.
It works out pretty well...
Cool. I will try it! Thanks

If you have windows 7, you can turn on media streaming under the sharing and network center and use AllShare to connect.
I have not tried yet, but i have done this with other DLNA devices.
Estrongs file manager works really good. The only problem there is no video player that can play .avi files. At least I can't find one.

Some of my .avi's work, and some don't. Could it be because of length? Boondock Saints II will play, but Alice in Wonderland will not, both .avis.

Avi is only a container not a format. Most players will only play certain formats at certain bit rates on mobile devices.
If a movie you really want to watch will not play you will have to re-encode it to the correct format before it will work.
example: both divx and xvid are both typically .avi files, but two different formats. If the player supports one but not the other then only some of your avi files will play.
I've installed Rock(divx)Player (non-market app) and at least I can play some of .avi files from sdcard that I couldn't play before. You can get it here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?enolzhkrmmy - just use adb install to sideload it
Hey Folks,
Has anyone got Vplayer running on the g-tablet ? I have rooted my tablet, and have access to the market etc. I also have the latest OTA from viewsonic.
Currently, if I try to run vplayer, it just tries to open the file (.avi in this case) and then closes ........ no errors
VPlayer sucks!
It plays NONE OF THE 13 Movies on my G-Tab. Even the listing of the folder is not sharp and clear. Like yours, it just opens and closes and never has any video.
Get Act 1 Video Player. It plays ALL the stuff I have Flawlessly. Just dfownload via the market to your phone, and G-Mail the APK file to yourself and open it on your G-Tab. It will have an "Install" option with which you can easily install the app. (you might have to save the file on your sd card before installing)
Aloha From Hawaii !
Vplayer on gtabletArrow
Thanks, ...... I will try that
Please look in the Themes and Apps section of this forum for multiples of discussions of video / audio players etc.
There are 3 candidates for top billing
Act Player
RockPlayer
Vital Player

have you tried mVideoPlayer. I heard it works well.

My biggest issue with it was that if the device does not support a container (.ts, .ps, .mkv, etc) the player will not play it even if the internal codec itself was supported. ie h264, AVC etc.
I have a IRREPLACEABLE video on my phone that plays fine. When I try to play it on my PC or when I transfer it however, all I get is audio.
I've done a reboot. All other videos work fine except this one and 3 others I shot recently. Same situation. On the phone = fine, PC...no bueno.
I have a codec pack installed, it is too large to attach via email, and astro tells me the 3GP was not found...but it's there...and it plays.......HELP!
Try a second pc?
Sounds like a codec issue to me.
this is not a signature I type it in every time it may be sent from my computer or my phone.
Didn't work on another computer either. I copied it to my harddrive, played it with 3 video players, and finally loaded it in video editing software. It saw the video.
I have the K-lite MEGA pack installed though. Weird.
ffdshow > k-lite plugin codecs
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
vlc player on windows usually plays whatever i throw at it
Handbrake is free and will convert the 3GP file to a format that is more pc-friendly. HTH

Yeah... I finally got it in my video editing software. As I stated above, I already have the k-lite pack installed. It was weird...wouldn't work on VLC, WMP, or Quicktime...just audio.... gave some weird error.
Even on the phone, these videos won't create a thumbnail in the gallery or astro, but all play just fine. STRANGE!
Hi guys,
just got a HP touchpad. now is there a video player on here? and if its there what format do they have to be in to view it. have tried a couple of different ones and cant get them up.
Is there a player app i can download onto it at all ?
thanks
there is a photos & videos app built in, but it's pretty poor for video.
you need to add your video files to the root of the built in storage (the tablet installs onto your computer as a removable drive).
i still haven't got my head around the video file support just yet, but it doesn't seem to handle .avi, divx, xvid etc.
mp4 seems to be the main format.
there are a couple of apps for streaming videos from a upnp media server, but nothing free as far as i can tell.
kalemsoft media player seems to be the best of these as it lets you load video files from the local storage on your tablet as well as browse for remote stuff.
i have successfully played an avi file using this app.
i've only tried the demo version so far which requires internet access in order to assess the trial period.
i don't particularly want to purchase the paid version just yet.
I used Handbrake and followed the instructions here: http://forums.precentral.net/hp-tou...n-resources/287212-handbrake-preset-dvds.html I just tried a short 45 minute kids dvd to see if it would work okay. It was about a 400mb file. Placed it in a folder called Videos on the root of the usb partition and it shows up fine in the Photos and Videos app.

see i tried doing that as well. creating a folder called videos on the root and it wasn't detected.
only when i added the file direct to root could i access it.
are directory names case sensitive?
a video player that allows you to browse and/or add directories would be much better.
EDIT: looks like i had a folder called video. changed it to videos and it shows up.
strangely enough kalemsoft creates a folder recordings. when i added a video file to that, it also showed up.
I have put my videos in the download folder and they show up in the stock player fine. Also converted DIVX avi files to MP4 with Handbrake. Used the ipad HD settings for nice quality.
Kalemsoft Media Player wil read a lot of video formats , you can find it on app catalog.
The kalemsof that i downloaded isnt displaying in full screen and sometimes will hang on my TP. Guess its still not compatible to TP yet?

Thanx for the tip about Handbrake, nunja. I'll try it for conversions. I concur with the settings...
I'm on a Pre 2 and have no problems with mp4 playing (once you get the settings down it becomes rote). For my phone I use iPod settings...
For ripping from DVD I use DVDFab3 - I know there are way newer versions out there and I tried them but always go back to version 3. I just like the UI and it has never let me down. Point it at a DVD or ISO and under Mobile click Generic. You can configure it for generic mp4 and get a resolution up to 848x480 which should be alright on the TP screen. Your settings like Resolution, bitrate, volume level, subpicture - can all be saved as a profile.
DVDFab3 in a .rar file. Just extract and it will run out of the folder without install...
I have tried several players with no luck streaming a .avi file from dropbox. Has anyone had any success in doing this?
u cant stream only download
Can you stream media from any of the cloud sources
Hey, so I ran across this post today because I was trying to do the same thing. It took me a while, but I think I may have figured it out.
Go to the play store and download these two:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anttek.explorer&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anttek.remote.cloud&hl=en
.
Sign in on the Drop Box client in the Anttek (on the top left of the application: click on device, select cloud , and then Dropbox)
From there pick the file and play!
I tested it with Mx Player, Mobo Player, and VLC Beta player. Worked on all of them perfectly, Mx Player took a while but VLC player Beta Player worked like "butter" on some Jelly beans haha ;-)
My phone: HTC Sensation
My Rom: Virtuous Eclipse
Android 4.03
HTC Sense 4.0
I hope this works!! Good Luck my fellow Android user!
no jacking off tonight
That is a genius workaround. I'll definitely be using that since I have unlimited LTE. Thanks.
I downloaded the two apps that you suggested and I also downloaded the vlc direct pro free app, but when I try to open a video file using the file explorer it says the file size is too large to open directly. Can you upload a full length movie to dropbox and then try your method to see if it still works?
Is dropbox the only cloud storage with this issue or can you stream avi's from google drive?
You should be able to start downloading any video file from most hosting services and immediately be able to play it in your video player of choice (I use DicePlayer). Then when you are finished watching the video, you can delete the file after.
At least this is what works best for me...

UMGixxer, I figured it out.... Go to dropbox app, rename the video to .flv. For example. ToyStory3.MPV may not play, but ToyStory3.FLV will play... Tell me if this works!!

Well I downloaded another media player "mx player" and it worked fine, I think I didnt have the actual vlc player that i was trying to use. But I wonder if your method will work with the stock media player.

Good question, I havent tried it. But then again, I never use the stock media player...
You can do this in ES File Explorer as well, just by linking it to your Dropbox account. You do need a media player that will play the formats you've got on Dropbox--MX Player works well for me.
