So after using a D1 since release day I finally got tired of it lack of ram and rom memory and upgraded to a Thunderbolt the day it came out. At first I was thrilled with it. Now.. not so much. Battery life is not so good and developer progress has been sort of slow with lots of hold ups. Not too mention the awful direction Verizon seems to be headed in bloating and locking down their devices. So I've been considering switching to Sprint. When I found out yesterday that turtle giving a $125 credit to new subscribers that port their old number.... well needless to say once I get back from this deployment in June I'm ditching my Thunderbolt and getting my fiancée and myself two NS4G's, the feat news being that it'll only be $40 more a month for both phones than it was for the one thunderbolt!
So anyway.. my questions.
I was blindsided by a few things on the thunderbolt and I'm not looking for a repeat exerience with the new phones.
I know the 4g isn't gorilla glass but is he screen very scratch resistant? I ran my d1 without a protector for 1 1/2 years without a single scratch. The Tbolt screen isn't so durable...
Screen technology... how many different kind of screens are there for the NS? which one(s) does the NS4G have?
Car mounts? I have bought one for each of my phones... I love them. Are there any OEM ones or really good ones for the NS4G?
Reviews indicate that battery life is pretty good? Does user experience back this up?
Pound for pound would you rather have the NS4G or the Thunderbolt? Also Sprint has 4g where I work and live... VZW not so much.

This isn't the answer to one of your questions, but be warned that Sprint's 3G coverage has degraded lately (they lost a roaming contract) and 4G isn't in all cities yet. Heck it isn't even in all major cities yet.
I love my ns4g. Came from an evo. sprint service isnt as good as the big v, but they have chepper plans. 4g is still a battery killer. but i get is light years above the evo and TB (my girl has one)
i always use zagg screan protectors so cant help you there
Even on 3g only the TB battery life sucks... and the notification light is so useless you might as well not even have one so getting a phone without one won't be so hard.
The only thing I know that is going to suck is soon the Nexus 3 will be out. I guess I just have to ensure I set enough money back to buy it at full price when it does Gonna keep digging thru the forum trying to figure stuff out on this phone in the meantime.
Do you highly recommend the ZAGG products? and how easy are they to install and not **** it up?

The radio on the 4G is standard Samsung, meaning it doesnt get as good a signal as the HTC or MOTO devices(this is a topic of debate, some say its the AOSP that causes it, I disagree).Ive had a screen protector on it since I pulled it out of the box, so cant answer ya there. Battery life hasnt been great for me, I am rooted though and running a custom kernel, not oc'd though. My Bolt got a little better battery life. The NS4G is a very good fit in the hand, I felt the Bolt was just a tad to much in the hand, although I loved the screen.
Overall, the Pro's outweigh the Con's. If you get the NS4G, I doubt you will regret it. The Bolt is a great idea, poorly executed and rushed though. I found it buggy and a little overhyped pre-release.

According to sprints coverage made they have good 4g signal where I live and work... I'm just so sick and tired of waiting for android goodness too "trickle down" to me via a dev who has a life/job/kids. Nothing wrong with that and I love everything the community does but I can't take not getting the stuff that makes android cool without having to jump thru a million hoops.
Hopefully the service won't be too bad, and hey! If enough of us leave VZW's oppressive ways Sprint is bound to get better.. right?

so would this explain why even though I'm getting full bars 3g, it's so god dang slow?? sprint told me there were tower issues in my area and techs would look at it. but if the lost roaming contract is the cause of this, then i'm just gonna jump ship stats.
to the op, i came from an EVO to the dell streak. i actually missed the smaller screen bc i got tired of holding those big phones. the biggest advantage imo is that the nexus s has a perfect screen size for viewing and holding. feels great in the hand as the curves and the lighter weight allows your hand to better wrap around and grip the phone without fatigue or cramping.
most importantly, go for whatever service is best for you. sounds like sprint is a no-brainer. unfortunately in my area, sprint 4g is non-existant and 3g has seemingly gone down the hole.
I'll play on this. Coming from a evo, epic, g2, iphone 4, now back to sprint and got the NS4G. I finally feel like i have a phone that i dont "FEEL" The need to sell to get something better at this moment. Mainly because its a full google phone. No middle man, no waiting, and once more devs hop on this phone, your going to love it! Far as scratching i didnt even want to test it out i cop the full body zagg ASAP so i cant help you there. In all honestly the evo has messed me up about these other htc copies that are coming on other carriers. All may have better specs in some areas, but i still feel like its a evo copy cat IMO. Nothing to make me switch carriers for, or be like "Yea that's better than my evo" But if the service is good in your area and it doesnt gets on your nerves, then welcome to the nexus s family!
I had the Thunderbolt and am now using a Nexus S 4G.
I liked the Thunderbolt a lot. I have very good LTE coverage so speeds were blazing fast. The battery wasn't so good. I was using the extended battery and was getting about 20 hours of usage.
The phone was too big and heavy though, so when the Nexus S 4G came out I switched and am glad I did!
The form factor of the Nexus is a lot better. Battery is decent, got 10 hours today with 3 hours of screen time, and with 4G on all day.
I love the SAMOLED, mainly because of the blacks. I have a black theme on my phone and it looks amazing!
Downside is that the Nexus has less RAM. It has 512MB but it seems that only 350MB is accessible by apps. I have noticed some lag on it VS the Thunderbolt with 768MB of RAM.
I'm glad I made the switch. Gingerbread is awesome, and so is the google talk video chat.
For the car mount, check out the Kensington K39256US. It is made for the iPhone but works great with the Nexus S. It's cheap on amazon.
4G brute
Got a scratch on the screen and I'm really careful with my phones. Always in a dedicated pocket, maybe caught on a button while going in? Still, never scratched the front of my phone before. Hopefully not a sign, lets see what else happens within 30 days, then back to Best Buy!
Also, zagg is cool, but the price is high and the texture sucks. I use skinomi. Similar material, no orange peel, and only $16 shipped after a 25% coupon online. Its actually pretty simple to install given u follow directions and are patient with it.

The antenna issues I'm reading about are kinda scaring me as well....
Hey all, long time lurker, rare poster.
Before I go any further, let me just state that I absolutely LOVE my Infuse. I've never really trusted Samsung, seeing as how i've sold AT&T phones for the past 6 years and saw the horror stories and countless returns starting with the SGH-A707 (sync), the Blackjack, etc. But they have won me over with the Infuse. So far, i've not encountered any serious issues, except for on that I consider major/minor. Read on.
I bought the Infuse outright on launch day after having the Inspire since launch, I do have on thing that perplexes me about the Infuse (read my mini-comparison)
Screen:
- Infuse, hands down. Bigger, brighter, and overall just more enjoyable. Also the gorilla glass has been extremely more fingerprint/scuff resistant so far.
Battery life:
- Again, Infuse kills the Inspire. On my Inspire I would have to turn off all background data, and make sure I kept GPS/WiFi off to make it through the majority of the day, usually dying out at around 6:00pm if i took it off charger at 8:00am. With the Infuse, I can take it off the charger at 8:00am and still have ~40% left at 12:30am the next day even with leaving GPS/WiFi on (I work 4-12:30 shift, and my desk doesn't have an outlet nearby, so this is crucial).
Audio quality:
- Infuse wins again. My Infuse is LOUD. I can actually show a friend a Youtube video without having to just put the speaker to his ear so he can hear it. Calls come in loud and crisp as well, I haven't used speakerphone yet, but I would assume it would be the same.
Build quality:
- Inspire. I'm sure everyone has read the same thing, how the Infuse feels kind of cheap. It's not horrible, but for at $500+ device I would expect a little more. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, and I don't think that if I drop it it would break, but I definitely bought the Ballistic SG case to make it feel a little bit more.. Substantial. The metal body on the Inspire oozed class and quality, in comparison.
Camera:
- Infuse, especially indoors. I will give the Inspire this: If you're outdoors with absolutely perfect lighting, the Inspire takes some of the best pictures from a phone I have ever seen, including the iPhone 4 (which I still think has the best still/video quality on any phone available from any carrier in the US). But the second it becomes cloudy/overcast the Inspire's quality drops from about an 8.5 to a 6, and that's being generous. Go indoors with the Inspire? Fagettabouit. The Infuse takes amazingly crisp pictures outside, regardless of whether or not it's Sunny/Cloudy/Overcast, but even my pictures indoors come out usable. Big ups to Samsung on that. Not many phones are able to do that!
Speed:
- Unfortunately, this is where my "one complaint" about the Infuse is. My Inspire was quick. Blazingly fast, if you may, despite only utilizing a 1GHz processor. Even though the Infuse should theoretically be even faster with it's 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, it's not. That's not to say that it's "slow" or anything, in fact, when browsing through menus/switching between applications I rarely see any lag at all. Where it's really noticeable to me, is in the web browser. Flash videos that played flawlessly on my Inspire have a good bit of stutter/frame skipping on the Infuse, sometimes pages don't correctly format for 10+ seconds, even if it's a text only page. I even have less apps running/installed on my Infuse than I did on my Inspire. I've tried using alternate browsers to no avail. I know there was a guy trolling with this, comparing the Infuse to a Tegra 2 device (which is like comparing a Versa to a Mustang), but I'm not talking in comparison to a Tegra 2, I'm talking a current-gen 1.2GHz processor vs. a current-gen 1GHz processor. Yes, games like Let's Golf! 2, Asphalt 6, and Madden 11 ran a little smoother on my Inspire.
Now, with that being said:
- Is this a deal breaker? Of course not. I bought my Infuse wanting better battery life, better camera performance, better(bigger) screen, and better overall usability. The Infuse hits the mark on all of these aspects. The web browsing is a little worrisome as I used it to watch TV shows while on break at work, and it's not nearly as enjoyable as it was, but I'm going to assume that problem can be alleviated once custom roms start hitting and I can remove the touchwiz influence (Touchwiz doesn't bother me, but I'm sure bogs down the processor a little bit, so I'll remove it as soon as possible to install vanilla android, and maximize my phones potential).
I know it seems like I disliked my Inspire, but in all actuality it was one of the best smartphones that I've ever had, the Infuse is just that much better, IMO. It's truly an amazing phone.
Does anyone have any advice on how to speed up my flash player/web browsing performance?
HTC devices are more media centric meaning they will always play nice with media/flash.
as for your flash problem, im guessing you will have to wait liek you said to get rid of touchwiz.
Not calling you a moron or anything, but did you do the Flash 10.3 update? Also, in my dolphin HD browser, I check the option to keep flash running always, as opposed to "on demand." Try that if you haven't. I noticed the lag left as soon as I changed that option.
These types of threads (about browser performance) appear for every phone with a Hummingbird processor. For whatever reason, the Android browser just doesn't perform that well on Hummingbird processors. Samsung has made a lot of modifications to the browser to alieviate this problem (with checkerboarding being a side effect), but it's still not quite where it should be for a 1.2GHz processor. Many suggest trying Opera Mobile. Unlike Dolphin, Miren, etc., it uses a completely different engine that is said to perform much better on Hummingbird processors.
My infuse is quite a lot slower than my Thunderbolt unfortunately

I'm not having any flash issues. streetfire.net videos play perfect and in sync, my local news channels play great flash as well. just as well as my inspire. just way better picture lol

Not Snapdragon. Hummingbird. The same one that's in the Captivate, with the clock uprated to 1.2.

The "Touchwiz Influence"? You're overestimating the impact of the launcher on web browsing experience quite a bit.

Huh? 'Vanilla android' never even really hit the Captivate because it's damn difficult to do with many device drivers etc. being closed source proprietary. You might be waiting a long time.

I'm not sure if the Infuse is still using the goofy stock RFS filesystem that all the other AT&T Android Samsung phones have used, but I expect it is. If and when custom kernels come out it might be able to be improved with converting the file system to ext4. The 'lag' complaint is common to pretty much 100% of Samsung's Android devices, at least with the stock software.
Yes the Infuse is using Samsung's stupid rfs system. And yes it sucks.....yes there is some lag....
But....
Once this phone starts getting around with ext4, I expect it to kick the crap out of any other non dual-core phone it there easily....

Meh. I think you might be hoping for a bit much. Plenty of Captivate owners who cared to have already been overclocking the same processor to 1.4 for many months now. Once you realize that and you start to realize that other than the slightly larger, modestly improved display and just slightly larger battery the Infuse is basically analogous to the Captivate...
The Infuse isn't a game-changing device by any stretch of the imagination. It's the iPhone4-killer that the AT&T execs wished they'd had to hold against Apple's throat when they were talking about going to Verizon, only delivered at least 6 months too late by the combined Samsung/AT&T dev processes. Relative to the SGS2 varaint expected to be announced in weeks the Infuse is going to go down as a strange, momentary afterthought.
Try Opera. its really good.
Just let me state this really quick.
its a phone. not a computer. browser experience will not be as smooth as in your computer, hey if it gets you online, and lets you do what you need to do, you should be pretty much set.

Nah...this thing uses so much Captivated hardware and device drivers, I won't be surprised if i am able to work with atinm/codeworkx/techmik and get Cm7 running in a few months.
There is a distinct advantage in you all buying this giant captivate hardware .
The main thing is perfecting that Odin package so it works with 100% of bricked phones. Then its time to go to town

I agree with OP that Infuse lags sometimes. Hence bought myself SGS II & this thing literally flies! I am glad that I have made the right decision, Infuse is going back to at&t.

I have a Captivate as well and I run it with Paragon's 1.2ghz kernel on Mikeymikes Serendipity rom...
I've had a lot of different phones...and I always kept going back to my captivate a my main phone.....
My cappy was the greatest phone I've ever had hands down.....
Yes the Infuse it's basically a bigger captivate.....but with all the things I always wished my captivate had....
Front facing camera
Super fast out of the box
Huge amoled plus screen
Much lighter and thinner
Better camera with flash
4G freaking speeds
HDMI out
And a battery that really lasts through the whole day.....and then some
The perfect phone.....hands down...
Only thing better out there is the SGS 2

about build quality i do feel that the infuse is too light for it's size but if you look inside an htc vs a samsung sgs i have to say im not impressed with the htc internals. weight isnt everything but i agree the infuse could be more rugged like the captivate was.

Yep. I love everything about it although the screen could have been a little less... grainy shall we say. If you've seen it in person and like the screen then that won't be a problem. It's just as fast as my vibrant and thunderbolt when launching apps but it doesn't get bogged down like those two do. It just keeps chugging right along without slowing down. I've had rosie (the UI) relaunch once, and haven't been able to replicate it. It's also a dream to browse on. It might not be as smooth as a GS2 side by side but it'll pretty much blow most other handsets out of the water in that area. Gaming on it is nice too, and I find it's framerates are as good as the Galaxy S1 phones which is great especially given the extra resolution this phone has.
I can only produce the deathgrip by completely wrapping the phone tightly which isn't a natural thing. I think those that are complaining of the death grip need to not hold the phone like they're trying to strangle it. I also have big hands so that can't be used an excuse. When holding it naturally I get a full wifi signal all over my house which none of my other devices could do. GPS locks fairly quick, but not as fast as the thunderbolt. But it works to say the least, and compared to my Galaxy S1 it's lightyears better. Compass also works great.
It's wifi speeds are hitting as high as 17Mbs down and 14Mbs up which is pretty solid.
As far as "4G" speeds in my area i'm seeing between 7-8Mbs which is great although your mileage may vary depending on where you live. My Vibrant would only pull in speeds between 4-5.5 Mbs on a good day in these same areas. Verizon LTE in comparison blows t-mo's 4G speeds out of the water. It's consistently twice as fast as t-mo's. In real world performance it only launches youtube videos 1 or 2 seconds faster so it's not that big of a deal.
The build quality is amazing, and the best handset i've ever held. That includes the iPhone4. I showed it to a friend who has the Incredible and he was practically drooling at it's looks and how smooth the OS felt. I don't know about the design as it does allow a lot of lint behind the case. We'll have to see if that's becomes an issue with lint getting under the screen.
I've only had it for one full day now and simply love it. Sorry for the long post.

Every device has problems. I went through 3 G1's. None of the GS1's had working GPS. The N1 had a ton of problems, and the iPhone has problems. If you go looking for a problem you're going to find it whether it be with this device or not.
So far so good...it's a keeper and will only get much better once rooted!
Yes, love the phone! Coming from a G2 I was hesitant about leaving the keyboard but the screen size and swype has made the transition easy. I havent had any problems with the phone at all although I havent been trying to look for any. Overall this is the 1st phone that I've had that I felt was superior to the iphone 4. Kinda sick of comparisons to the SGS 2, theres about a 500-600 price difference right now and although the Galaxy 2 may be a better phone I think the S4G is a better value....either way theres nothing on the android app store that these phones cant handle...best phone Ive had period

Should I return my OG galaxy s2 that I just got about a week ago for the skyrocket? I heard the OG Galaxys2 is still faster because3 of the Exynos processor. Need some advice on which phone is faster/better.

I have LTE where I live and made the switch, LTE is so fast that it was well worth the switch. The Exynos vs Snapdragon debate is a little played out and doesn't make as big of a difference in the phone as many are making it out to be, my Skyrocket is just as fast in real life day to day usage. Should we assume you are thinking of returning your OG GSII before your 30 day window of opportunity? Are you expecting to get LTE soon?

Im within the 30 days yes. I live in Toledo, Oh so I have no clue when we would get LTE coverage in my area.
Without LTE I would have stuck with my original GSII, I like the 4.3" screen a little better
Everyone will say that it depends on the person and their needs/wants. But then again, you are posting in Skyrocket forum...
I returned my $200 SGS2 and walked out with 2 Skyrockets for $300. One for me and the wife. If there wasnt that deal, I would probably stick with the SGS2. Both almost the same size, might as well get a bigger screen.
As for speed, they're both still fast. A hairline in bench marks didnt bother me. Resolutions still decent- some people exagerate about its low quality. Heck, I'm a graphic designer and photographer, I'm good with the resolution. Phone is usually a foot away from my face anyhow. Also, I'm not really much a gamer, but I do love my tower defense games (Sentinel 3 is awesome with a bigger screen).
My opinion, SGS2 has better screen quality, better 3D graphics, (insanely better? no. but technically better). Skyrocket has weird issue with their screens in dim lighting with neutral grays (doesnt bother me, I not at dim or looking at neutral grays). Some encounter problems, some look for it. Would I go back to SGS2 if it was the same price? No.
Why Skyrocket (for me): Bigger screen, faster internet speed. Use internet more than anything, play games where a bigger screen would be nicer.
If I had the opportunity, I would probably get the Skyrocket. The larger screen is magnificent. While the exynos variant gets better development support, the real world differences between the two are likely negligible. Most people I've seen say that there isn't much difference, others say they notice. Initially, I made the decision to keep my original GS2. A short time after my 30 day window passed, I kind of regretted it. Either one will be an excellent choice. I just want the larger screen. I may buy it outright just for the heck of it.
I had the S2 and exchanged it for the SR being as I was in my 30 return window.
I like the phone much better. The extra screen size for me is a plus, I don't notice the pixelation other people talk about.
For what I do with the phone I don't notice the difference in processors. I really think a lot of people put too much stock in the benchmarks just to say their phone is faster that your's. Faster benchmarks mean nothing to 90+% of phone users being as most people never probably use a fraction of the processor speed anyway.
My only issue is that although I live in an LTE area, I am on the fringe of the LTE coverage and often it will hover on lower bars of reception on LTE where as HSPA would give me full bars. You would think I would get a bit better reception with LTE being as it is a lower freq with better building penetration.
I really wish there was a way to turn off the LTE radio and stick with HSPA if I wanted to. When I am in a deep LTE coverage area it is fine, but where I live at I would prefer to keep it on HSPA to maintain a better signal and battery life. I am not into rooting, and I am sure when the ability to turn off LTE comes out it will probably be for custom ROMs.
I know it is a contridiction to want an LTE device and want to run it on HSPA, but until they convert a few more towers in my fringe area, HSPA is fine. Also at home I am always on my WiFi.
One thing I did notice, which is wierd. SMS and MMS send much faster on LTE than on HSPA. I can actually notice how much faster it is.
But I did want to be a bit more future proof and have the latest phone. Of course I can't remember keeping a phone over a year anyway. I am sure there will be a Galaxy S 3 out by the time LTE starts getting built out a bit more.
I'd do the exchange you get a bigger screen and more CPU power. I'm not in an lte area and haven't noticed any difference still get great speeds.. I did the exchange your talking about

I had the original Galaxy S2 but took it back because of some dead pixels and Mini USB port was very loose and was causing disconnect with the slightest movement. I loved the original Galaxy S2 my only complaints about it would be the battery life, loose mini USB connection (bad design I feel) and it was too thin for me. I don’t have the biggest hands in the world but the phone was not comfortable to me in the hands.
I did see all the comments about how the skyrocket would not be beneficial unless you were in a LTE network and also since the proc in the GS2 seems to be outperforming the proc in the skyrocket it didn’t make since to purchase it in addition to that it had a worse battery life.
I don’t do a lot of gaming so the proc was not a huge concern to me and even though LTE is not available in my area they explained it still connected faster on the networks. I tested the both phones at att and at my house. The GS2 connected on average at a 1.2 Mbps while the skyrocket on average was 3.2 Mbps. It was nearly doubled. So even though you may not have LTE in your area you will still see some benefits with LTE technology. However my battery life was even worse on the skyrocket. This is because I am downloading files via torrent on both phones when testing them.
I rooted my phone removed all the crap At&t loaded and also removed some auto starts up applications. Now my phone works very well. Out of box I though it was slow compared the GS2. Now it seems to be working fine and performance wise I cannot tell the difference.
Quadrant scores were very close to the same. Out of box my score on the GS2 was on average 2900 with the sky rocket it was 2500. After freeing up some memory and disabling LTE by connecting to wifi vs LTE to upload my info my scores were anywhere from 34426 to 3633!
Those of you with Skyrocket phones I am curious to know what your quadrent scores are. Here is how I improved my scores and tested between none LTE and LTE connection. I downloaded root uninstaller and removed all the crap Att installed and then downloaded start up manager and ran only a few apps. After a clean reboot I then connected to wifi opended task manager and exited all programs and cleared ram before each test. Ran quadrent 5 times and wrote down my scores (3573, 3429, 3633, 3459, 3426) on wifi. Disconnected wifi and let LTE connect. Cleared ram and cleared programs again then ran the tests on LTE my scores were (3075,2045, 2312, 3104, 2287).
My question to all the developers is can LTE be taking up a lot of the proc speed during benchmark test and this is why people are claiming the SG2 is outperforming the proc in the skyrocket? Also can anyone develop a toggle to turn off LTE? I think this will free up the unnecessary stress on the proc for those who don’t have LTE networks in their area and also increase battery life.
So fare I am happy with the Skyrocket. What I liked is the not so thin rounded back that feels a lot better in the hands while holding in landscape mode. Performance wise I did not notice any difference between the two phones (after tweaking). Battery life the GS2 was better. Connection speed on the skyrocket was nearly doubled even though LTE not available in my area. The screen was noticeably bigger at a first glance compared to the GS2. The mini usb connection is a lot more secure and is not wobbly on the skyrocket, even the displays at the store had a wobbly loose connection. Viewing angle was better on the Skyrocket and it did not have the blueish tint when viewing at a angle like the GS2 did. I go through At&t and the GS2 did not come with a headset, the skyrocket came with a headset as well as a smaller power adapter similar to the square iphone power adapter. I hope this helps those of you trying to decide if you want to buy the GS2 or the Skyrocket. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hello to all.
New Android user here, coming from Iphone 3GS. Finally was eligible for AT&T upgrade, and decided to go Android. Took advantage of the $99 Target deal for the Galaxy S2. I wanted to the skyrocket, but they didn't have it in the store yet. Told me to get the GS2 for now, learn Android in the meantime, and later on swap out for Skyrocket when available. I was afraid of losing my grandfathered unlimited data plan, so didn't want to order online. AT&T was too pricey for the Skyrocket ($249)
So, have the GS2 for now and trying to flatten the Android learning curve. But as I'm in my 30 day window, I am lurking here finding out how you guys like the Skyrocket.
My eyesight isn't getting any better (late 50's) so the bigger the screen the better, but don't want to be trying to put a tablet in my pocket.
Was a jailbreaker on the iphone, and consider myself an old hacker in pc world, so probably will be getting into rooting, and rom's eventually. For now just trying to learn Android without taking on too much at once. I hope the Skyrocket development will pick up like I see for the GS2. No hurry for now!
Don't have LTE in my area yet. But it seems like the Skyrocket does better on HSPA than the GS2. Little nervous reading that AT&T doesn't seem to honor the "unlimited" plans for LTE. And no way to turn it off on the Skyrocket. Maybe this will be possible in future ROMs?
After reading all your informative replies, I believe I am still leaning to swapping out the GS2 for the Skyrocket.

SGS2 is outdated now. Especially since LTE will be rolling out all over the place next year. My phone is OC'ed to 1.83mhz and I can tell you it is noticeably faster than my old s2. This phone is most likely to get ICS before any other at&t phone also. Out with the old, in with the new.

It seems like Skyrocket is very plasticky compare to Vivid. Vivid seems better built. Anyone went from Vivid to Skyrocket?

I exchanged my sgsII for a vivid on sunday when it came out. Didnt like the phone at all. So i sold it on craigslist for 500 and bought a skyrocket. It is alot better. No regrets.
Yeah, I exchanged my Vivid for a Skyrocket today. Not sure I'm really happy. Synching Outlook to Skyrocket is a PITA. Bluetooth seems pretty bad so far. Could just be the Skyrocket doesn't like the H17... I do like the Font sizes far better on the Skyrocket. Non-LTE Data is just as screwed up on the Skyrocket as the Vivid. Battery life seems better on the Skyrocket.
No regrets. This phone(had it 2 days) does seem slower than my sgs2(had it 2 weeks). Other than that I am enjoying the phone.

Had the vivid for 3 days and switched to the skyrocket.. that's saying allot for.me to switch since I love the sense ui with htcs.. I would choose skyrocket again in a heartbeat.. the vivid does seem to be built Better but that doesn't mean much when your using the phone lol
I purchased SGS2 i777 myself and exchanged it for Skyrocket i727 but still debating. Skyrocket is still in the box. Vivid as I mentioned on the topic that Vivid seems to be more solid and better built. I really like the screen of Vivid. Its very sharp.
The thing about Vivid is that lack of accessories. Even less than i727. Also there seem to be lack of support/development.
Don't know which way to go!

After having owned both the Skyrocket and the Vivid for a few days, here are a couple of my thoughts. I hope this helps your decision process. This is all just my opinion.
I like the feel of the Skyrocket in my hand better.
The Skyrocket's web browser is not resizing websites when you pinch to expand. The Vivid does.
The Skyrocket's screen colors are brighter than the Vivid's, but light colored websites and text on a full white background is significantly dimmer.Reading ebooks is better on the Vivid, or,for that matter,my Inspire.
The Skyrocket has the charging/USB port where it belongs, on the bottom. The Vivid's is on the side. That's worse for charging cradles and using the phone while charging.
I like the screen resolution on the Skyrocket better. Fonts are easier to read for those with less than perfect vision. Some of the Vivid's Fonts are downright tiny.
The Vivid works flawlessly with my Motorola H17 headsets. Cyberon works great. The Skyrocket has been basically useless with the H17; how it works with voice command I don't know. This may be a compatibility issue, but still...
Synching to Outlook with the Vivid is painless and free with HTC Synch. Synching to Outlook with the Skyrocket is a PITA and costs $50. (For the third party PC program.) Perhaps there's a better way I haven't found.
Volume is FAR better on the Skyrocket.
Battery life is better on the Skyrocket.
The Vivid can turn Bluetooth volume down further. That's a big deal when on the phone with a loud talker.
Sense (Vivid) is better than Touchwiz (Skyrocket).
Both have data issues right now.
Both are plenty fast enough.
I switched from i777 to the skyrocket. Many regrets. Terrible out of the box XviD playback where the i777 was always perfect. I use a lot of CPU intensive apps so I notice the choppiness everyday. But I got a $45 refund and OEM earphones when I switched to the Skyrocket. Plus my gf got me a OEM external charging case + battery so it is too much of a hassle to switch back now. Other than the screen, it is a major downgrade for me until LTE hits my area 2-8 months from now. Then it will probably make up for it when LTE is working because I tether a lot.

I bought DICE player which uses hardware decoding and plays xvid just fine.
xvid isn't industry standard and divx is, that's why they didn't add a hardware xvid decoder by default. I consider DICE a good buy as I won't have to worry about whether my future android phones will support media format X.
I kinda' do have regrets...
I'll be 1 week into owning the SR tomorrow. This is my first Android, so there has been a bit of a learning curve. But I dived in and have learned a lot. I'm doing EVERYTHING I can imagine (or researched) and I get what I consider horrible battery life. 5 hours, 1 minute, 10 seconds on battery with all the power setting low, and hardly using it I'm at 21%. There is no way I can get through one day without a charge and theta won't work for me. I'm used to BB battery life and I was ready for a lot less, but this is worse than I expected.
Perhaps because I'm in a western suburb of Chicago (Naperville) and I do not get a strong LTE signal. Speaking of LTE... I'm averaging 5-6 Mbps up and 4-6 Mbps down... is that good? I ask because one time I got 25 up and 6 down when Ii was closer to downtown Chicago. I'm think of going to the original SGS2.
<sigh> well, I've still got time to decide.
Any other thoughts are appreciated.

Still no regrets. But for some reason I wanted my thin ole S2 back and I was tired of the lag and the picture was stretched a little to much for me. (Maybe I got a bad one) So I returned to local ATT store.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that if you bought online and return to the local ATT store they do not charge the 35 restock fee. .....it gets better.
Then I went to target and he said the ATT S2 was on sale for 99.00. Bought it and now I am happy. To me the s2 just seems to be the right fit.

If you are getting those speeds you are on 4G (hspa+) not 4G (LTE). The 4g LTE will have LTE under the 4g. I also think that you got yours ups and downs reversed. Down will almost always be the higher number. And that battery life isnt normal. Try getting buying another battery and see if that helps.
skyrocket has crappy screen, i know that this is subjective but side-by-side with htc is not even close. i love the interface but i preferred the ADWLauncher EX home screen so it really doesn't matter.
having said that, the LG Nitro HD is really the way to go so I'm returning this hopefully within the next 3 weeks and getting that one.

I have the Skyrocket now for about a week. I went through a bad battery. Replacing it fixed the problem. Battery life is an issue if one does a lot with the phone but it is so in all modern smartphones. I think that the Skyrocket is slightly better in this regard.
I had carefully evaluated the Vivid and the Skyrocket before purchasing. Despite the fact that both phones have supposedly 4.5-inch screens, the Vivid screen is narrower, not by much, but notably so. The Vivid felt "more substantial" but having various HTC phones that died an early death, I am not sold on HTC quality. Not at all. The screen is much better on the Skyrocket and can be kept dim for most of the time, so it would not be much of a drag.
Neither phone has a way of switching off LTE. In fact, part of your problem may be due that your phone detects a weak LTE signal and spends an inordinate amount of power trying to lock on to the signal. This is well known to be an issue with power consumption on both of these devices. I do not know if this helps, but side-by-side reviews note that battery life is better on the Skyrocket.
In any case, Samsung has announced that it would soon update the phone to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream). It may be at about that time that AT&T may implement the NFC capability of the phone (which is attached to the battery for a peculiar reason). So, I would overlook any "software" issues at this time as there is going to be a massive upgrade in about 4 months.
I am not sure if Samsung is producing enhanced batteries for this phone. If one wants to keep the NFC capability, batteries much come only from Samsung, because of the firmware on them. But beefier batteries may alleviate some of the concerns here. Various firmware updates later on may fix other issues as well.
Personally, I feel that it is a great phone and it would have been much better if it had an LTE on/off switch. I was in Chicago last week and the LTE signal there definitely had an impact on battery life although the speeds were awesome.

i also played vivid at att store, the screen looks more sharp. but i refuse to buy Heavy Thick Craps!
the lighter the phone, the more comfortable in hand!

I just tried DICE Player Trial on a few XviDs. Unfortunately, it does not help. Pretty much it has same or very similar results than the standard out of the box player. Videos that should have 29.97 or 23.97fps, all play around 15-20fps. If you want to see the striking difference, try MX Player, and enable software decode. The phone is powerful enough to deliver native fps with software decode. It is just that the hardware accelerated upscaled image quality is so much better, than the software upscaled image. Basically I want to have my cake and eat it too. Just like I did with i777. With i727, you can either take a hit on resolution, or fps. Maybe Ice Cream Sandwich can improve things? It is not that this phone is incapable. There is something not working right that is making this happen.
