[Q] HTC Tattoo google/Mybackup problem with froyo flash - General Topics

Hey everyone. First post here, so bare over with me
I have had my tattoo for almost a year before I finally stepped up and flashed it with froyo (Should have done that long ago). To make sure I had all my contacts I backed it up with Mybackup and it worked in the 1.6 days.
After the flash I installed gapps, Mybackup and thought the restoring was a piece of cake. But no, it reports when its about to restore that I have to login to my google account. The problem is that I am logged in, everything is running smooth.
I tried to reset and make the google sign in come when i start the phone. Thats worked very well until it needs to actually sign in. It just idles forever. It says 5 minutes tops on the phone, I left it for 1 hour with out any results.
Does anyone have a clue to what is wrong? If it cant be fixed, is there any way I can copy the contacts from the backup and on to the phone?
Thanks in advance!

Apps not syncing

Just got my new TB after work, logged in and drove home, none of my Market apps have synced from my Nexus S. Rooted the phone and still no apps have synced. Installed Adryn's debloat rom, no apps have synced.
I have "Backup data to Google" checked when I login my gmail account. I've been doing this for years with multiple phones and hundreds of rom flashes and my apps always synced automatically.
Did this happen to anyone else? I can go to market.android.com and push all my apps manually but over 100+ apps is going to take forever.
Does it have something to do with Sense? This is my first Sense phone.
Honestly, I always just thought the backup system only restored the apps if you were moving to the same model device. You'll notice this same thing happen if you flash an AOSP rom later. At least it always did with my Incredible. If I had an AOSP rom, it would restore one set of apps I had installed. If I flashed back to a Sense ROM, I got the other set. So, yeah, I'd wager it's something with Sense. But if what you're saying is right, when you get an AOSP Gingerbread rom on there, they might all come back.
My apps installed automagically.....I logged into the phone at the store and by the time I got home, about 10 mins away, they were installed.
I do remember hearing awhile back that if you went into the market before the app restore started...it wouldn't start. Not sure if that still applies or if it was even correct....but I always wait until my apps restore before I hit the market.

Oh....and I came from a Moto Droid running Cyan7.

I didn't get any of my apps going from my Incredible to my first Thunderbolt. I just swapped to a new one today and got all my apps back from the TB, but nothing from the Incredible.
I had to download everything myself. If you're worried about missing an old app, etc, go to My Market Account (top right on the browser version of the market). That will have a nice list of old apps for you
I had the same issue coming from a Droid X. When I went from Droid to Droid X everything carried over, but the first time I started the devices it didn't load my old apps. When I rooted using the first method it did. When I rooted using the new method it didn't. It might have to do with opening Market before it starts, but I'm not 100% sure.
Hmm, interesting. I'll just leave it be for the time being, I'll end up wiping and flashing new roms in he next couple days anyways so I'll see what happens.
Mine autorestored the very first time when I wiped/cleared for CM7 test0. Then when I wiped/cleared for test3 they didn't.

[Q] Strange issue with Nexus S

Ok, I tried to avoid bothering people to solve this but I am just genuinely lost.
The other day I finally took the plunge and rooted my Nexus S and everything worked perfectly. So I decided to install CM7 7.0.3 Stable so I did a Nandroid backup of my current rom, then flashed CM7. Again, everything looked fine. So I proceeded to flash the google apps. As soon as I did that and logged into my google account, the market started going nuts trying to download all of my apps. The count in the notification bar was actually higher by a substantial margin than the apps that it was actually installing. After this happened, the first few downloads worked then the rest of them started to fail. So, at this point, I had a successfully installed rom and all of the google apps worked perfectly, except I couldn't download anything through the market.
At this point, I thought it would be best to go back to my restore point through Nandroid. Once I reverted back to my stock 2.3.4, the problem was still there. I wasn't able to download anything from the market. So, in my frustration, I went out drinking with my buddies and ended up crashing on a couch. In the morning, I woke up, my phones battery toast so I got into my truck, plugged it in, booted up and voila, market works again.
This led me to believe it was a server side issue. So today, I reinstalled the CM7 and google apps and tried again. Same issue. Now I am wondering, do I leave CM7 on for 24 hours to see if it fixes itself again or do I try to find another copy of the google apps. The ones I have are the ones I dl'd through rom manager.
Before anyone asks, I have tried all the usual suspects:
-Cleared the market data / Cache
-Cleared the Cache in Clockwork
-Cleared the Dalvik Cache in Clockwork
-Tried reflashing the google apps
No dice.
Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas for me?

[Q] G2 - Market Suddenly Doesn't Allow Downloads

Ok so I have a HTC G2 (Desire/Vision). I decided that i finally wanted to root it and go all out. So I did the permaroot and installed the newest version of Clockworkmod no problem. I then flashed the CM 7.03 rom. Booted up, everything looked good. I then flashed the newest version of gApps. It asked me to sign in and everything was fine. The final step I took was flashing the G2-Fast kernel (1.9ghz OC). So when i boot up my phone, google attempts to back up all my apps via the market. There was around 100 apps downloading. So I left it there over night. This morning i check it, the last 10 apps or so were unsuccessful. I kept trying to reinstall apps but nothing. I also tried new or different apps but all come up as "Download Unsuccessful". Since then I've tried just about everything to fix it. clearing cache/data, reflashing, superwipe, sobe's method, signing into to GTalk, toggling 2G. I figured I try a new rom. So far I've flashed meXdroidMod and MIUI, but same result. Everything is fine but market doesn't want to work. I'm contemplating reloading my old ROM that i backed up once i get home. Anyone have any ideas? I pray to the gods of XDA.
I don't have much experience with your particular phone buy there has been a small epidemic of your issue on droid x running Gingerbread. It appears to be a disconnection of the google account with the market. It always appears to happen after a data wipe and need to reinstall apps. Sometimes you can still push apps from the Internet market to the phone, sometimes not. In a few cases it resolves by unmounting the sd card and downloading. Once download works then ok to remount. Besides those lucky few, everyone else has to wait it out. Even sbf does not fix it.
FORTUNATELY every case I know of resolved itself spontaneously in about 24hrs give or take. I found at least one case via google on a Thunderbolt so I know it can happen to other phones. Also if you have more than one android device on the same account all of them are affected. Good Luck
It has happened twice to me. Because of this I now keep copies of my most important apps on my sd card.

Contacts

Starting off, I am completely new to rooting and this forum all together so if I use a word that is just completely wrong, let me know haha. So today I rooted my phone and put the Synergy ROM on it. It worked out all fine and I got all my apps back and my contacts. Today, I was at work, not using my phone at all but when I finished work and was calling my buddy, I realized it deleted all my contacts. Not mad, I realized they were all my facebook ones so I just re-synced and they came back. Unfortunately, others were missing as well, some that were saved on my phone. Confused, I tried re-syncing with Google to retrieve them but no luck. I also tried getting them from a back up. I accept them being gone but now, my facebook does not want to sync the pictures for my contacts like previously. I am wondering what happened and how should I go about fixing this? Is it something that just happens on occasion or was mine just a freak accident?
its most likly a glitch with facebook

Updating to 7.0 Nightmare

I'm so mad that i've got flames shooting out my ears. Why? A few reasons. First, Snapchat doesn't let you log in on a rooted phone so I wanted to go back to stock for 5 minutes to log in then root again. Sounds simple, right?
I was already on 7.0, it was installed from an OTA update a couple weeks ago when I found out it was being pushed. I rolled from rooted stock MM to unrooted stock MM via ODIN. Downloaded and installed the OTA without a hitch. Forgot to log into snapchat on that day, instead I jumped straight to rooting. Tether is a necessity in my business.
Fast forward to last night. I wanted to roll from 7.0 rooted back to 7.0 stock, log into snapchat, then reroot. Couldn't find the simple tar.md5 of 7.0 that you drop into the AP slot in ODIN. I found a 7.0 that used all 4 slots in ODIN but I didn't like that it was different than what I was used to, so I tried to roll back to 6.0.1 using ODIN. It flashed fine but when it booted, the screen resolution was set to such a large dimension that the sprint splash screen, which normally only consumed the middle 1/3rd of the screen, was taking up the whole screen and bleeding off the edge. I tried a few times to get it to run but all the system apps would just repeatedly force close so that flash was a dud. Art this point i'm a but annoyed because a simple flash, boot, log in, flash, boot, done is turning into a longer process.
So, last resort (in my mind) I decided to go through with flashing that 7.0 that I'd found. I read through the thread, didn't see any current issues to stop me. I downloaded it, which took freaking forever because apparently the site hosting it throttles downloads to 12mbps. Finally got it downloaded, check md5, unzip, throw the 4 parts into the slots in ODIN, and flash. EVerything was successful.
Reboot into system, let it do its thing, log into snapchat, then throw her back into download mode and flash recovery then finish up and go to bed. Seems easy enough. Riiiight??
I unplug the phone, reboot it. Samsung splash screen appears, then an odd screen. A teal screen. With the word Erasing... at the bottom left. "Hmm, strange" I thought. I set the phone down and waited.
A few minutes later I start hearing a voice saying something. I realize its my phone. Behaving oddly. As if I just bought it and turned it on for the first time. I look at the screen in absolute horror.
The damn flash I's just performed deleted every freaking thing on my phone. all apps. all app data. all files. all contacta. all texts. everything. GONE. WTF.
Nowhere in that stupid thread did it say it wiped the phone. Nowhere, not anywhere, ever, did I see that this damn flash would've wiped my phone. Now I am livid. All this just so I can log into some stupid app, because my wife wanted me to use it with her. Everything. Gone.
I set up my account details, logged into my samsung account, did all the restore options, then went to bed because it was taking an awfully long time to restore, so I figured I had a fighting chance.
Woke up this morning to the phone still stuck trying to restore. It had made no progress since last night. So I decided to reboot it. It refused to finish the restore process, so I did a factory reset and tried again. Everything restored this time, all of my apps, contacts, texts, home screen etc. Except, none of the data that my apps had produced, restored. Game progress for a game I play: gone. 6 years of data produced by an app to log vehicle expenses: gone.
SO I tried a third time to restore everything to no avail.
It's almost time for me to leave home (I'm a truck driver, home on weekends), so I decide I will jsut re-root the phone since I am pretty sure I can try to restore the apps form my samsung account again, sometime this week. Re-rooting went fine, I made sure tether worked and then I hit the road.
Turned on my bluetooth headset so I could talk to my wife. The damn thing won't pair to my phone. No matter what I try, the headset won't pair.
I try again to hit the restore option from my samsung account. it wnts me to log in again because my session expired. I enter my password, it logs in then instantly expires my session, demanding login again. Endless cycle. I cannot log into my samsung account. I boot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik in hopes that it fixes it. Reboot, only to find the same problem exists. I do some research and find out that since I am rooted (as I've always been!) I can no longer log into my samsung account on my samsung phone that I OWN! WTF!! Since I rooted, my data is now being held hostage.
All of this crap, because everybody in the whole freaking universe is against people rooting their damn phones. This is ridiculous, pathetic, and unacceptable.
I now know that Google does not sync/backup any data, nor any app, other than its own. And I now know that Samsung backs up... god only knows what the hell they backup from your phone... then they'll hold your own data hostage form you if you choose to root your phone for whatever reason.
BIG THANKS to the person who uploaded the 4-part 7.0, called it an update, and did not disclaim that it is guaranteed to wipe everything you ever had, right off your phone.
All I wish I could recover is the 6 year old cumulative data from one app. But nope that's gone too. This has me the most distraught.
yes I know I should've made a nandroid. it wouldve avoided this whole thing. noob idiot dumbass mistake. I also know that I cnnot trust tht just because it doesn't specifically say itll wipe everything, doesnt mean it wont.
the end.
FML.
Ded. Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhaha. Noob shizz....
FYI. Clear App Data on Samsung Account using Titanium Back Up and you'll be able to sign in to your Samsung account.
Still laughing.

Your tip worked. Thanks.
I can't wrap my head around the fact that 2 backup services, Google and Samsung, BOTH did not back up app data from the one app I needed the data from, the most. Samsung actually backed up 40 some apps, Google was only 14. Backups are current, less than 5 days old. This is 2017, and services are still shoddy at best. Back when I had my Hero, I looked upon these current years as potentially amazing ones... Other than the phone manufacturer technology, I'm not too thrilled... Oh well, it's whatever I guess.
I don't mean to laugh at you too much. But that rant was epic. I'd check all the back up settings on Google and Samsung. Make sure they're set to back up everything.
If this app and it's data were that important to you, you shouldn't have left it's fate to assumption. I'd suggest looking in to a service that will regularly back it up to a cloud. There are a million or so options.
I run apps that rely on years worth of data too, and they've been backing up data to an encrypted cloud account since forever.
Anyway man, I'm sorry that you lost important stuff. But it was entertaining at the same time. Good luck man!

Oh I've been there. Learned the hard way to back the data to my computer or even dropbox if I'm not near a computer. You live and you learn my friend.
