I am not sure whether this has been posted in the N1 apps forum before.
I just stumbled upon this in the desire forum. Basically this is a modded GMAPS apk which has World Wide navigation enabled. This helps for people like me who stay in countries (India) where official GMAPS navigation is not enabled.
Attached is the APK file.
Also the newest version can be found at the below site.
http://translate.google.co.in/trans...t+mod&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&prmd=ivns
EDIT:
Steps to install thanks to mynameisjon
1. In Titanium Backup, select Maps and make a backup in case anything goes wrong (you might wanna nandroid instead, but I find this works fine.
2. Select Maps and wipe data, then uninstall.
3. Select Street View and wipe data, then uninstall (may be unnecessary, but I found it worked, so you can let me know if it doesn't need to be done).
4. Install this apk(it's a resigned version that's linked to the market, so you can get updates*.
5. Go to market, and reinstall street view.
*If you updated from market, Navigation will be deactivated according to Google's restrictions again, so I recommend unchecking auto-update.
EDIT: 05/12/2011
A new version is available... --> http://translate.google.co.in/trans...t+mod&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&prmd=ivns
5.2.1 is on the above link too (latest version as per the market)
direct link: http://www.mediafire.com/?b83cel02g8gr6hr
Code:
I am trying to install 5.2.1 & will report with results in a few moments
It works as stated
It says "application not installed"
Yeah. 1 thing i forgot to mention is that you would have to uninstall existing Maps application if any. Otherwise the installation would fail.
it works. thanks
I've removed the original Google Maps 5.2.1 from Google, But it still won't install!!
What happend?
This worked for me:
Uninstall original maps with titanium backup, then copy maps5.2.1-ownhere.apk to /system/app with root explorer or similar. do not install

You'll need root as the Map file is in system (no access to it without root)

Hi Guys,
I have updated my X10 Mini Pro with Google Maps 5.0, it updated fine without any errors whatsoever... but the problem is the Compass Mode button that you can tap above doesn't show. there's no bar above the map (see attachment).
I dont really care about the 3D thing, I just need the Compass Mode feature so the map would automatically rotate and follow the orientation im facing based on the built in compass.
Anyone knows the solution?
thanks!!
GMM5.0 runs in 2D/raster mode on most devices. Try this version to enable 3D/vector mode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9868137#post9868137

Wow thanks man! Ill be trying this one out later. I have a few questions:
1) I don't need my phone to be rooted, right?
2) Im thinking of uninstalling the GMM 5.0 update that I have to bring it back to the stock GMM first, before I install your version of GMM, is that good?
3) Your version is also uninstallable without taking out the stock GMM, right? (just in case it doesn't work on my X10 Mini Pro)
Thanks!
If you don't have a root and original GMM is a system app (it was installed by default), then unfortunately you won't be able to install above file, sorry.

on second thought, if i root my phone and use titanium backup to uninstall the GMM systam app, would that allow me to install your modified GMM 5.0?

Yes, if you uninstall original GMM, then you should be able to install above modded GMM. And you should not have any problem with uninstalling it later. People sometimes has problems, cause they install modded GMM as system app - they copy it to /system/app instead of installing it like any other app.

had the same issue. Tried your solution Brut.
Installed flawlessly. But compass mode still not available!! Is there anyone that got this to work successfully on x10 mini pro?
i somehow lost all my app links in the market, i have about 130 apps installed and would like to have the possibility again to update them.
is there any way to get my app links back in the market?
Titanium Backup
already tried Titanum Backup but it says that there are no recoverable links or something like that....
any other methods other than reinstalling all the apps?
Lol, if you don't want to reïnstall all the apps, how would youvlike it?
Only way is backing up your app + data to restore with links
i have them all backed up with titanium but reinstalling them with TB doesnt fix the market problem...
In titanium delete the data for the market and install one app on the market and uninstall it
well i had to reinstall all the apps for them to be visible again... i hope that doesnt happen again.
now i have an other problem, whenever i move a app to the SD card it also disappears from the market.
any way to display them if they are on the SD card?
I´m with the same problem. After installing CM7 last build I receive the new Android Market (2.2.11) and all my downloaded links gone from the market.
When I look for an already installed application its appear as not installed and then I have to download and install it again to its appear in market downloaded list.
Any way to fix that?

i could not find a other solution, in titanium backup/restore you can long hold on the apps and then go directly to the market to download them, that made it a bit less painful to install them again

Yeah I find another similar stupied solution: QuikMarketLinks, this app will list all your installed applications and link to their market page. I downloaded again 60 programs.
If you install AppBrain application you'll be able to reinstall all your applications in one shot (provided that you had already synchronized your phone with the site) as the list is saved on the site. I'm not sure it will reinstall your market links yet but this isn't a big problem as AppBrain - like the official market - shows when there are updates .
I've also noticed that the applications that I've got on my SD card are displayed as non-installed in the market whereas they are displayed as installed in AppBrain app.
The bonus of the application is that you can browse the Appbrain site on your PC, select the applications that you want to install and when you synchronize your phone it will install these applications.
Really a great app!
You might want to try this as it worked for me.
I installed several apps manually by running the apk and selecting install. These apps didnt appear in market as installed, and presumably werent being checked for updates.
I went into settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All->Market->Force Stop & Clear Data
Launched Market again and after re-accepting the terms, all the apps that I had manually installed now appear in my list of installed apps.

well i tried the market fix and it did nothing...
also as soon as i move a app 2 SD i no longer have it in the market:/

Why is this version here? I mean - navigation always worked for me from google maps - not on the map but it loaded google navigation when I clicked address on the map.
Is this here different? I mean - you navigate using GM? Is it better? Or is this a problem in your countries (I live in UK)?
Thanks for answers.
This map is for the country that cant use navigation on google map. It has been hacked and can be used by any country now.

Hi way2me25,
See you can not have both the maps (orig. and modded) installed side by side. You can try Titanium Backup (free ver.) and take a backup of your stock map app. Then installed the modded version and in future if you want to go back to stock, just restore the original from Titanium.
Hope it'll help you.
Thanks,
Thanks!

yes, you need to have root access to use Titanium backup, BTW the apk file that is attached in the post 1 does not require root, you can simply install it via any file manager e.g. ES File Explorer.

Hello alL,
I come to bring you good news. I have managed to install google play store and other Google Apps on the Chinese version of the Honor 9 (WITHOUT ROOT).
For anyone wondering, here are the steps.
1 - Download this file to your Honor 9.
2 - Decompress the zip file and install "Google Installer_2.0.apk". Don't touch the other files.
3 - Run this app (the newly installed one with the chinese name) and confirm using the Green button near the bottom.
4 - Confirm all prompts for authorisation, ensuring you select "Trust app" to give it full permissions. This will install the core "Google Play Apps Suite" as a user app, meaning that you will be able to uninstall "Play store" by simply dragging it to the top. See 1st screenshot.
5 - Check if Google Play Store has been installed and is working. If android complains about "Missing GMSs", reboot and try again. If still you have problems, try downloading "GMSInstaller apk" from an internet mirror of your choice.
See attached screenshots for proof that it works!
Great guide! Thanks for sharing. This is a safer way than rebrand, but rebrand will bring you a full Europe/US EMUI. You will not see any left-over Chinese characters.
The only downside is you'll be left with some Chinese letters here and there :/
But, it's easier than rebranding
Is there a lot of Chinese left so that it becomes difficult to use the phone? Or more like a minor nuisance? I'm currently in China and positively drooling at the local retail price but I've no access to a computer for rebranding.
Hi, I tried this procedure, I managed to install all the GApps but when I try to login or add google account the phone freezes for a moment and nothing happens. Same behavior on YT, while on Gmail and Play Store it still says "GMS Installer required". I guess that with a chinese phone you need to flash it anyway or it can't reach google servers. Am I right?

Hi,
I previously installed google services successfully using GMSinstaller when I first got my Honor 9 in August.
Now it is upgraded to B201 and because it always crashes when it comes to google play, I ran GMSinstaller again which asked me to uninstall every google related apps.
I did so but now it is impossible to install google again
GMS installer will only propose me to uninstall previously installed google apps, then reboot.
I tried several "Google Installer" including this one, none of them are working.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
It seems like this B201 update patches the GMS installer

Does anyone with B201 firmware succeed to install Google ?
Is it possible to downgrade without root/unlock ?
One thing I have not tried yet is reset to factory, If I do so I am wondering if a backup from HiSuite will restore everything...

In the end got Google back, that's the most important !!
