Ok, so who has actually used Honeycomb? - G Tablet General

My brother just got a Xoom. I'll have it for a few days. I'm setting things up for him, as he is a BB user. Holy ****, why are people asking for this? Some of the stuff is like.. ok.. cool.. that's neat.. but overall, its a pain in the ass.. have some stupid bug in the launcher where apps downloaded do not open, claiming application not found.. or not installed. Only way to open it is thru the market..
The icons are also rediculous. Its like they're half drawn.. oh really, is that what a home icon looks like? Its definately not 'power user' friendly.. ugh. What are you people *****ing about?

to be sincere, i saw a xoom scoring 2981 in a benchmark test.
If the hardware is similar, and we get around 3000 without boot2loop that would be awesome even if icons are chopped and those stuff.

That benchmark was set with a OC'd xoom. I can get 2700+ with vegan and the disable sync tweak. 2500+ without the tweak. So I say forget honeycomb (for now), get me an overclock kernel instead.

i'm not overclocked but rooted on my xoom and i'm only pulling 2000-2200 on quadrant.
that being said, honeycomb and the xoom are much like android 2.1 and the nexus one first coming out. early adopters, such as myself understand that honeycomb is completely new and still in "beta" in terms of being a new addition to the android ecosystem.
we don't have flash capabilities yet and yes the market has its bugs. be patient and the google ota's should be pushed out in a timely manner.

The lack of xvid playback on the xoom has had me stuck with a confused look on my face for about half the day.. exactly what type of video will play smooth on the xoom? I'm going to take a guess and say mp4 h264 baseline with aac for audio.. same as a phone.. bleh.

2.1 & youtube app?

does youtube with hd work on the 2.1 builds? if so could we take the app and install it on a 1.5 rom with good results? i know youtube is broke atm until the 2.1 update that's why im asking. i just saw a complaint thread about youtube on android central.
it does work with 2.1 however my experience with all the 2.1 roms floatin around is the hd side of it only works with wifi. as far as usin it on 1.5 no go

so why wouldn't it work on 1.5? different kernel and such? i hate the fact a google app is broke you know!
can anybody upload the 2.1 youtube app and ill try it out? if it doesn't work it will be no different for me as right now it's a no go.
never mind i tried the 2.1 app and it doesn't work, i get a force close...such a shame.
it does work in 2.1.. with HD too...
sometimes (less than 10%) I cant play a vid.. but just select it again.. and it is fine...
I watched a vid in hd on 3g no problem... took a bit longer to load obviously but still worked like a charm... it's nice to have youtube back after losing it in 1.5

I sure hope so. The Hero doesn't have enough pixels to display HD. Any attempt at HD is just pure wasted bandwidth. The Hero barely has enough pixels to even display Youtube's 480p "High Quality".
FYI
The Youtube app does work great on DamageControl v1. Although by default it gets the low quality video. You have to go to the Menu and select Play High quality.
Obviosly its going to take longer to load the HQ video. And it does work over 3G.

the youtube app on 1.5 needs to be fixed...why can't a dev fix it on a custom rom? whats the issue anyways? seems stupid to have to wait until 2.1 for a fix.
@fixxer
well the devs can't really do much if they dont have the source code for the youtube app...
if memory serves me right, the youtube app isnt working because of a timeout issue, which is why it works everynow and then...you cant really change those type of settings easily without access to the source. its a problem with how the app was programmed.
also keep in mind the devs are hard @ work on more important things such as getting teh hardware to work 100%, and is something thats within relative easy grasp as opposed to modifying an application without source.
I totally agree. Youtube on 1.5 has been messed up since the November MR, which IMO is totally unacceptable. Haven said that, I hope you guys still using 1.5 don't have to wait much longer but I have to say it works great on 2.1
HQ is only available as default PRE November MR release (yea, before the MR you could set youtube to default to HQ always), and now on wifi.
You can tell a vid to go to HQ after you select the vid. Much slower, but works fine and is clear.

Quick live wallpapers+sticking?

First off am I the only one that wishes the original opengl would stick? Performance was alot better for that one (especially for the nexus wallpaper). Is getting the performance of the original live wallpaper we had and the sticking of the new patch possible? Right now that is the only problem stopping my phone from being the sex.
EDIT: Problem seems to happen when another widget is updated. Its not perfectly smooth, but not bad, but when a widget updates it really slows down the wallpaper to a noticeable halt. I doubt im the first to notice this, but for anyone else that really wants nexus wallpaper, having less widgets on your main page seems to help.
I moved the news+weather widget you see below to another page and it seems to jitter less.
I agree. Losing the performance from the new OpenGL isn't worth having LWP's. They might have a fix for this when Toast's Awesome Sauce ROM is complete.

Yeah I disagree with "there is no point in having them if it is slower".......the patch works pretty dam well with most wallpapers its just the peski nexus being alittle to slow to be usable for me. MagnusRagnarok my OP was not an attack on you at all. I am extremely thankful for what you have done, and hope you have not taken my post that way. I am just trying to see if more people feel the same way as me. For me getting the nexus one wallpaper running alittle bit better would get me closer to completing my phone.
Ill bump since I edited my first post. Hopefully someone finds it helpful.

Hey guys, I know a lot of us have been dying to get the nexus wallpaper working without having to do the opengl fix to make wallpapers stick, seeing as it made the wallpaper ran really choppy. I found a way to get it to stick, run smooth, and not have to change the opengl. I used the update zip posted by emerica6541 and it stuck right on and have ran smooth ever since. Granted he did modify the wallpaper so the lights are smaller, but I think it looks better that way on our heroes due to the smaller screen. It has survived multiple reboots, and over 30 mins of sleep time. I am running darch's legend rom though, so I'm not sure if this will work for damage's or flipz's roms, but its worth a shot.

Dungeon Defenders FIRST WAVE - Now with Cross Platform Play

So who's got it? What a great game. I've just upped to level 3 and it's addicting for sure. The only thing is the game menus are upside down lol. Frame rate wise, running very smooth on my Vibrant with Nero 3 Going by the same name in game.
runs chopy as hell on my evo but still playable...hopefully they can optimize it some more and also that gingerbread helps some...
well i'm still downloading the huge amount of files needed lol. will edit the post ;p

Yeah, technology especially in the gaming realm moves fast. We all know the only reason we upgrade our computer is to catch up with games lol.
It's running decently on my Evo...And I doubt this is a hardware thing. I think they'll push an update soon

Really? Smooth as silk? Doesn't run like that on my GT-i9000 with Darkys ROM..
Runs great on my Vibrant(Nero v3, voodoo). I downloaded a cracked copy to try it out(I know I know...but I'm not paying for a poorly made game) but like it so much I just bought it from the market and am re-downloading as we speak.
Is the sideway/upside down in-game menu on all copies, or just the cracked version? If it's going to be this way on the purchased version, I'll just get a refund and wait until it's fixed.

hmm.. you're certainly an exception then cause it should run smoothly. Our phones can do QUake 3 at 60FPS for crying out like non-oc'ed. You should be getting a buttery smooth 35-40 fps in D&D like the rest of us with sgs. Try reinstalling the rom.
Runs Pretty choppy on my phone. Turned the graphics down to get better framerate.
Don't like the fact that the menus are in portrait when the game is in landscape. But enjoying it generally.

yeah bro you got a problem then cause it shouldn't run choppy at all even with everything turned up. u sure it's the sgs? i'm starting to think the i9000 devs can't program worth crap. i'm so glad for Team Whiskey lol. If i were you, i'd just go back to stock froyo.
Seeing as we have no benchmark and lag is subjective, how about we use the starting room fully zoomed out looking at the crystal as a test.
On my sgs it has a little slowdown, I would say 20-24fps
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I really can't imagine that the ROM is the cause for the not so great performance. Besides, I have no clue how to get back to Stock Froyo even if I wanted to lol. Im with Android53 on this though that on my GT-i9000 im getting 20 FPS looking at the Crystal.. maybe slightly less.
Think I played online with you a second ago boodies. I'm jimbravo1(I think). Need to get some practice and leveling under my belt, but online looks to be great fun!
I don't know how many fps my vibrant gets full zoomed out, but it's very smooth, little to no choppiness ever.

How do you zoom in? Zoomed out fully its a bit choppy.

Speed problems with my Sensation!?!

The only real problem I have with the sensation, is it's speed. It's taking forever to get here. Sense 3.0 lagged my delivery time. Dual core my ass!
Anybody else having this problem? Figured I'd ask as all others seem to be having a problem in some way or another with the Sensation.

Mine is flying. I think you're confuse about speed and smoothness. If you think you don't, exchange.
Honestly the Sensation doesn't seem any smoother with Sense 3.0 than my G2 running Virtuous Unity 1.24 @ 1.2ghz. But I bought it for the 4.3" screen and thin form factor.

Just wondering, do you consider this guy's Sensation fast and smooth?
Ok, want some quicktips to get a sensation out of your smartphone ?
-root it
-get some good system apps
-remove all unnecessary apps/systemapps
-secure it
-optimize it
-replace sense with zeam launcher/ something else.
-Overlock it if possible
-clean the autostarts
and voila, you got your sensation.
ps: for more information check out my sig.

I got a Sidekick 4G ( Sensation ) lolol .
about to get a OC'ed Lagfix kernal hehe . w/ a nice ROM w/ TouchWiz 4.0
I have used 4 brand new Sensations with nothing loaded on them and all of them have performed differently. I'm trying to make sense (pun intended) of it. The first one I got was fast and smooth, the second one was laggy as hell, the third was a little laggy and the forth one was fast and smooth. Does anyone know why the same device would act differently when it comes to performance?
Here is a little video I made. Let me know if yours is this fast.

That looks just like mine. I consider it fast and smooth. But then I'm coming from a Vibrant, a picture of which is in the dictionary under "laggy".
I tried a demo unit at a TMO store and it was not as smooth. A bit jerky or stuttery when flipping between home screens. I disabled animation, but it made no diff. So, it does seem there's an odd variation between phones.

Yea, I wouldn't keep the auto install option on. For some reason I think it makes the phone slower. What is the carousel effect? I know what the carousel is but what is it doing? Engaging every time you go to scroll side to side? Both mine and my wife's Sensations are pretty damn fast. Not quite as fast as the G2X since it's running vanilla but I have no doubt in my mind that the Sensation will be just as fast once we get the bloatware and Sense off of it. I have not restarted my phone for 3 days now and have never gone that long with any other Android device. Usually when day two rolls around, my devices start to bog out but not my Sensation. Might be the added RAM or something. Once we get everything off of it though. We are going to have over 400mb of free memory sitting on the phone.

If you go into privacy settings there is a option called "Back up my Settings" and "Automatic Restore". If you enable both of them, all of your settings and apps will be backed up on Googles servers so when ever you get a new phone or reset your phone, all of your apps will be installed automatically and all of your phone settings will stay the way you had them. I have done this about 6 times with the same phones and every time I do it, the phone performs slower for some reason. I know it sounds weird but it does. Try it out though. See what happens.

I guess you were talking about how long it took to get in the Sensation forums through the XDA app. Were you being vague on purpose? You made it seem like a general statement. Next time, try to specify what exactly is lagging.
The dual core processor had nothing to do with getting here. The second core will not kick in unless it needs to and lets be honest, the XDA app doesn't need two cores to run it. There have been plenty of times I have seen the dual core CPU do its thing. I blew through, what my Nexus S and Nexus 1 would have lagged through.
Lastly, to respond with an answer for your post. Sometimes these forums get a ton if traffic in a short period ff of time which causes them to lag. There are also plenty of people working on these forums all day long to keep them running so people like me and you can agrue over dumb **** the other person probably knows both about.

Ice Cream Sandwhich Info

A friend of mine's father works for a major phone company. Legally I'm not aloud to tell you. But I have info on ICS, and if you have any hope on wanting info. You'll believe me. First of all ICS is completed. The release version is 4.0, not 2.4. It truly fuses Gingerbread, with Honeycomb. You know how the new Motoblur status bar looks? Thats kinda the whole theme to it. ICS is aimed to work on any and all devices. Tablets, and Phones. Just how a while ago somebody found out that hidden in HC is a GB UI. ICS UI will depend on the size of your screen. SO obviously tablets have Software buttons, and Phones hardware. Apparently there's an option to enable Software buttons in a menu similar to CM7's tablet tweaks. There using a new way to manage apps and the memory so that battery life is amazing! A Xoom apparently can go 75 HOURS! Yes Hours with out a single charge *Wifi Model*. ICS will be out for public development within the next two months. So expect CM8 in November :3 My source is amazing, I just can't say anything that will lead it back to me. ICS is smooth, fast, and amazing! If you guys truly want to see Pics of ICS *Yes, Pictures* I'll upload them next week. That will be the next time I can get a hold of some ICS. I'll upload the Lockscreen, Browser, and About Screen. I just need help on knowing what to blur out so my friend don't get in trouble. I was considering doing a Nandroid backup and seeing what people what do with that, but as the wife explained. I'd go to Jail Xo. So hopefully you believe me. If not wait to have your mind blown next week Thank You
I hope you'll deliver what you just promised
I truly can, it's not that hard. I had been using Honeycomb for 4 months before the Xoom was released :3
Can't wait

yes, would love some screenies!
we dont want anyone to get in any trouble here... but..
if a /system/ dump was posted to some little known file hosting/sharing from an anonymous IP address... well, you know... leaks happen, etc.

That's right, leaks do happen. Happened with Windows...happened with 2 iPhones being "lost" in a bar (happened with the 4 and the new 5 coming out). We don't live in a perfect world. "Accidents" happen
Are the home screens and app drawer designs radically different? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the motoblur theme.

More battery life is the best news ever. Even if they didn't improve much on the features but gave tons more battery life, I'd be a happy camper.

I've had a galaxy s2 since may, and just bought a xoom 3g. The galaxy battery lasts a day. The xoom has lasted 4 days so far and still going. That's with gmail and exchange set to push, and on 3g. So 75 hours as stated by the op doesn't seem that great. Unless he means 75 hours continuous video playing?
WOW! I'm so excited about ICS!

People might have missed this but there is an important question in the OPs post quoted above.
OP: My suggestion is to look at the already leaked images from the older build and see if there is anything that seems strange in those areas. I don't know how subtle Google's watermarks are.
Posting to follow this thread!
