So who is getting one? - LG Optimus 3D

Basically a roll call for those thinking of getting one.
I know a few other VillainROM members are very interested.
/Fysi

I would get it, provided it will work on t-mobile's network.
If not ... it will be the Galaxy S II

Will be getting one yes.
Probably with that official accessory shell with the kick stand:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985458

Was thinking of waiting for the Nvidia quad core chips coming late this year, but might have to pick this up instead.

really???mmm can you upload some pictuers?

Good luck with the phone. Don't expect LG to update your phone once it's released (from an LG GW620 openEtna user).

I'm probably getting one. Love the power and 4.3 inch screen. 3D is probably just fun. However, the tegra2 phones released so far (Motorola Atrix and LG Optimus 2X) have issues playing back mkv or H264 HD movies - no hardware acceleration which results in choppy playback. This phone would be my mediaplayer as well. Could be a deal breaker.
EDIT: is it running tegra2 or something else?
EDIT2: it's a TI OMAP4430 chipset. Might just solve the H264 issue!

tegra2 h264 issue??? link pls.

Some info here, other reviews fail to play any HD clip they try, format support is very limited:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4144/...ra-2-review-the-first-dual-core-smartphone/14
Vplayer that supports most formats does not even work on O2X.
Expected to run fast on O3D due to NEON support.

I'm totally getting one actually ordered both Optimus 2X and Optimus 3D lol gonna take one of them, leaning towards 3D after seeing a few vids that it recorded in 3D on youtube!

It would be nice if it can playback most formats. I have a sgt and it eats most video formats with no problem. And full HD isnt any problem either.

LG have promised at least one update in the LG Optimus 3D's life.
Not a lot of people know this, but the reason why they seem to getting than they used to be, is due to firing their CEO late last year.

Just when I start liking the G-Tablet, my Archos 101 is scheduled to arrive Saturday!

Well, I knew this day would come, as I originally bought the G-Tablet as a hold-me-over until Archos got themselves together on the 101. And now it's here. I'll probably keep them both until my return date comes up on the G-Tablet. But, I can't see returning the Archos device.
Decisions, Decisions!
lol.. wow. Me to, I ordered the second it was up, and did 2 day. So mine should be coming saturday also. Maybe?
did you order Yesterday on Archos.com when the 101 went up for sale? and do 2 day shipping. My tracking number I have already, but it's not in UPS system yet
Did you guys consider you might prefer the g tablet? Remember archos 101 will probably never see gingerbread, and the tegra2 will have honeycomb support. The ui is probably better with the archos...for now. Just have to weigh the pros and cons. However there are a few features the 101 has that are nice, like hdmi and the kickstand.

Please post a comparison after you have both. I'm sure many people are trying to make the same decisions as you. In particular can you post about the viewing angle and how laggy the tablet is?

Yeah! LOL! I Got it yesterday with 2-day shipping . . . So, let me rephrase: I HOPE it gets here Saturday, waiting on the UPS update too.
I'll report back after playing with both. But right now I'm on a usb keyboard/case & a bluetooth mouse and loving this thing!
Crimton, you say that cuz of Archos bad update procedure in the past right. They've mentioned they need to and will improve that. Just like the Archos 101 was released with 2.1 in UK, and getting 2.2 in the next 2 weeks. End of November. They also said they will do future updates on these newer, better tablets. but we will see. Just like Samsung, they have a terrible track record.
I'm not buying the 101 for Gingerbread. I'm buying it for a cheap, low cost tablet to enjoy for the next few months. and in Feb, or March I'll get a 2.3 or 3.0 HTC or Moto tablet that will be feature complete and more of a tablet experience. Since 2.2 really isn't fully there yet. And what do you mean the tegra will have gingerbread support. because LG, and Moto are releasing Tegra 2 phones in Q1. Yea your right. but by then i'll be getting something better I'm sure.

You may be correct. But, I'm not so concerned with Gingerbread right now, just the 2.2 upgrade later this month. There's no telling when the HDMI/hybrid cable will make it stateside from China for the Viewsonic. And, if they haven't fixed all the crap we've had to wade through on this forum to get this thing remotely close to passable by Black Friday sales, Viewsonic will be toast. LOL!
Can you imagine the everyday consumer turning this thing on to see what we saw with the TNT & no Flash Returns with be en masse!!!
Yup, black friday will be a disaster with no market, or flash like the box says. but yea.. Anyways I have a few things i don't like about the G-tablet. and I'm not really banking on Viewsonic fixing software much.
There's some great dev's here though, doing some good things. I'm sure it will be smooth as butter very soon. The media aspects of Archos sold me, the HDMI out, it's coded for some serious media handling and playback. I'll be using it to my TV often also. That and the kickstand, and the entire top isn't glass so it wont break as easy if dropped. No fingerprints on the entire top like the G. and I wont accidentally hit the soft keys all day long.
Anyways. my UPS is showing up now
Anyone know how I can pull the TnT keyboard n use on the Archos 101?

What's your delivery date???
I'd also like to hear a comparison between the two, if you have the time (I had pre-ordered the 101 until the Gtab showed up in my sites). I'm hearing mixed reviews on the LCD and I'm curious if it has the same viewing angle issues.
And if you could do a dump of /system, that would be awesome. I'd love to be able to port their media player over to the GTab.
MY delivery date isn't up yet, but UPS is showing Signature Confirmation Required. I work tomorrow and monday. damnit. I better have someone around to get it.
Yes beet, i will do whatever you need.. I saw a few video's of the 101 and 70 in action, and those video's alone the viewing angles seemed better than the G. My own video shows how bad the angles can be. That is why that video made me think otherwise.. Oh and there's a very good file manager that i think the 101 and 70 has. but I'm not sure. I also read rageinthecage gives temp root on the Archos. So we can temp root, do a titanium backup or what not if needed. but thats unconfirmed.

a combination of the two would be ideal. once we get the official hdmi dock that will eliminate the need for the kickstand and the hdmi port. i just hope that viewsonic is gonna get some updates out to us quick. i know what you're saying about not being worried about gingerbread right now(however i believe i meant honeycomb, tablets will be shipping with it soon http://androidandme.com/2010/11/tab...th-tegra-2-could-arrive-as-early-as-february/) but i also do not want a device that will be outdated soon after i buy it. i would love to see a comparison of the 2 though while you have them both.

I am interested to know the plug-in comes with 101. I owned 2 of Archos 605 wifi devices. Archos charge for every plug-in. FOr example, DVD Mpeg2 play back, Web browser, Cinema plug-in. All plug-ins cost me almost same as the device. SPecially, the plug-ins are serial number specific, I can't reuse the same plug-in in the other one device I own. I am so curious to see what included in the price. As I saw the plug-in is downloadable but is option. Just my experience.

Agreed. Flash performance, game emulators and Quake already play far better on the G-Tablet.
Out of box though, the 101 is better (obviously).

Archos, ZPad(GTablet) and Toshiba are compared in this forum post. Interesting things regarding their selection of LCD screens and comparison of multitouch capabilities, viewing angles. Interesting read.

Watch the video on there. Why isn't this the one that shipped? What were they thinking? Did the stock TNT have that video playback? Even the recent Engadget article mentions the video playback. Why don't we have that on the new firmwares?

Hey Viewsonic......wtf? Thanks to the devs here my gtablet is flying....but it could have been flying out of the box and off the shelves if someone over there didn't drop the ball.
If you need a consultant you know how to find me
Yeah, it's a shame, that early model is pretty awesome.
At least the price dropped.
What the heck? Including the HDMI cable? Where?
Yeah price was like $429 when announced...i got it for 347 out the door...the only complaint i didn't have lol saved like 60 bucks

Should I return my xoom?

Been playing with my xoom for less than a week now and thinking about returning it.
As such, I have a HTC desire and to me the xoom is just a bigger version of my phone.
How likely will we see Kal-El tablets next month? Should I just return my xoom and wait for the next wave of tablets?
Any thoughts?
Did you root your Xoom?

I would say not very likely that you see the new tablets soon, sometime in 2012
root xoom, install themes, download docs to go for running Microsoft word, excel etc. download hacked Netflix app for movies, run custom ROM, overclock your dual core processor....remember that a tablet is not a laptop replacement.
What are you hoping for it to dothat you are doubting it??

First, a tablet is not a laptop replacement. Maybe next year.
If you really want a tablet, but the xoom disappoints, return it and buy the I pad. Most people see the TV commercials and think they want that. The I pad is a toy in a tablet form factor. A friend of mine asked for a recommendation the other day. I said:
For work get a xoom
For mindless activity, get an I pad.
They got an I pad.

I seriously considered returning it at the start too. Until I found the Netflix app on xda and dice player to play my hd video files. I still think it's bull**** Netflix and HBO Go apps aren't in the market for Xoom. But get those apps and teamviewer and I barely use my laptop except when I have to type something long. Love it now!

Which details should I know for buying this tablet?
About everything like srial number or manufacturer country or ....
Thanks for guiding me.

what do you mean? as long as you are happy with the specs and form factor, just buy it.
play with it extensively for the first week and make sure nothing fails on it.
also, dont be put off by the little lags here and there (expecially in the browser or when downloading an app) it is most likely a software issue and will be fixed fairly soon.

Hey at least we got a free TV with it (In Ontario).
Yup free tv in Alberta too... And that was a pretty sweet deal for me that since I needed both! I bought mine outright through Freedom, using it with koodo. I am pretty happy for now. Hoping that LG keeps its promise of more frequent updates and longer support since they opened a new division dedicated to that.

Yup. They've had their own "taptic engine" since V30, it's the only one on the android side that has it and it's brilliant! The vibration is such an important aspect of phones that people tend to not notice. Oneplus5/6 has the nastiest vibration that actually becomes a reason for me not to buy one.
Anyone recieve an update on the status of free tv yet?
If my math is accurate , we will be waiting until July 15th before any update. At any rate, im looking forward to a 43" UHD w hdr and google assistant!

Agreed. I have the LG G7 and the Huawei P20 pro. I was going the keep the G7 and sell the Huawei P20 pro until I accidentally threw it out of my car window...sigh. Now I have to sell my LG G7 which is by far a better phone. So far out of all the phones I've owned in 2018 the G7 comes close 2nd to the S9+ edged out by the dual speakers. This is by far the best LG G series phone. The best phone no one will buy, which is a shame.

I sent in my paper work last week, LG is very sticky on having it correct. I put my emails on the phone and delivery and contract change in the trash folder...had to scramble to get them back to submit the correct info LG wanted. They are most interested to make sure it was pre-ordered between May 18th to May 31st and a proper digital receipt of the purchase. I think I finally gave them what they wanted....But yes I feel middle of July is when they will arrive by....but who really knows.
I just contacted LG regarding the claim and when can we expect the TV. I got this in the reply back.
"Regarding the claim status, as there is a cooling off period to ensure customers are satisfied with the products.
The claims will start to process in the beginning of July.
All claims will be reviewed prior to validation, please allow 6-8 weeks processing time for your claim."
It says "my" claim at the end there but I think it can be generalized to everyone.
I received an email and a text message today about the TV. It says that they're expecting to ship the TV in 4 weeks. Hurray for the new TV in August.
They reviewed this specific TV on RTINGS. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uk6300
Don't expect to be wowed but it's not a terrible TV in anycase and a FREE one at that.
Now, waiting for a method to root this phone... *crossing fingers*
